What I found interesting in the news today:
New York Daily News' Joyce Purnick on Eliot Spitzer's fateful choice of David Paterson as his running mate: "the fierce reformer who made his reputation by going after wrongdoers on Wall Street and promised to shake up Albany, played old-fashioned politics with New York's future instead of making a choice on the merits. Everyone who knew Paterson's record knew that he was unqualified to be governor, though precious few said so when candor might have helped."
The New York Times on wacky things that happen to Scientology defectors: Requiring them to "sign false confessions about their personal lives and their work, pay the church thousands of dollars it said they owed for courses and counseling, and accept the consequences as their parents, siblings and friends who are church members cut off all communication with them."
Oscars tonight: Supposed to be a showdown between "Avatar" and "The Hurt Locker," but will "Precious" sneak through?
