  1. Wanda Sykes is very funny. I'm looking forward to her new talkshow.

I always liked George Carlin because he was different from everyone else. I put off too long going to see him.

  2. Joe Lieberman is wonderful! I wonder how much his sponsors paid him for this morning's Face the Nation appearance?

Joe, 'You Lie!' when you say no one has been talking of a government option until the last year. For almost twenty years, it's been the talk of the town; not just the in piddling ways that are being offered now, but the real government option, Single-Payer.

  6. Just finished watching Recount again. It was infuriating the first time. This time it was just heartbreaking considering what those decisions got us for eight years. There's no guarantee Al Gore would have handled 9/11 and Katrina better than Bush, but at least he would have brought more brains and empathy to the table where decisions were made.

    Jamie --
I hate to contemplate the abuse they'd have heaped on a President Gore for "causing" 9/11. Democrats got behind the Republican president in the wake of national tragedy, but the Republicans would never have done likewise, not for one second.

"...but the Republicans would never have done likewise, not for one second. "

Ivy, I like thinking ill of the Republicans, but I honestly disagree with you. Even though they would have found fault in Mr Gore's allowing the event to happen, they, like the rest of the World, would have supported our efforts to come to grips with the tragedy.

  10. they would have attempted a crucifixion of mr gore......that's what the gop would have done......in my estimation, based upon their past actions......

Posted by: sturgeone Author Profile Page | November 1, 2009 4:16 PM

  11. It would have nice if Gore did win, even if the gop would have tried to crusify him, imo there would have been a lot less soldiers dying, and we would not be in so bad shape...one President for all of the bad that has happened...not a bad trade.

Posted by: SolarCrete Author Profile Page | November 1, 2009 4:21 PM

  12. to not to have attempted with all their powers to cynically and totally turn the situation of 9/11 happening on Gore's watch to their own political advantage would have been seen by the klingonish neo-cons to be a sign of weakness......witness the advantage they took over its really happening on bush's watch.....after that dubious election and all.......

Posted by: sturgeone Author Profile Page | November 1, 2009 4:36 PM

  13. If Gore and been President, Social Security certainly would be in better financial shape. I remember when so many were laughing at the "lockbox" part of his campaign.

  15. Gore would have stopped the 9-11 hyjackers and been known for the rest of his life as having done it for political reasons.

  17. The next time you hear a politician use the
word billion' in a casual manner, think about
whether you want the politicians spending
    YOUR tax money.
A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,

    A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
    B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.
    C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were
    living in the Stone Age.
    D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.
    E.
A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes,
at the rate our government is spending it.
While this thought is still fresh in our brain...
let's take a look at New Orleans ...
It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.
    Louisiana
    is asked Congress for
    250BILLION DOLLARS
to rebuild New Orleans Interesting number...
    what does it mean
    A. Well... if you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans
    (every man, woman, and child)
    you each get$516,528.
    B. Or... if you have one of the 188,251 homes in
New Orle ans , your home gets$1,329,787.
    C. Or... if you are a family of four...
    your family gets $2,066,012.

Which reminds me on a song i think Dooty once linked:

If I die tomorrow and return to Mother Earth
I don't want no accountants arguin' over my net worth
Just dig down in your pockets and put a penny on each eye
And I'll be two cents richer than the day before I die

    Solar --
You may add "Back-Flow Enforcement" to your list.
We got a notice that the water works will cut off our water in ten days if we don't comply with this regulation which consists of paying for an inspection and filing a certificate. Of course, we have already completed it, but our certificate is probably on the desk of some laid-off gov't worker. But the guy who sends out the cut-off letters appears to still be on the job.

  31. Jack,

I have to admit that the VAT tax method would not be a bad way to go...providing that loop holes are not looped and opened....the thought of knowing how much corps are making at any given time, just the volume amount of business they do; is appealing...I haven't read enough to understand it all; but it sounds a lot better than what we have now.!!

The main reason that I posted that list...is to show how ridicules all of this tax thing is..... Irs agents get commission for taxes collected...who do they go after...not the corps...they have lawyers that will hold everything up. the little guys check (work lien) are the targets...the shits...

  32. "To pay the debts of the Revolutionary War, Congress levied excise taxes on distilled spirits, tobacco and snuff, refined sugar, carriages, property sold at auctions, and various legal documents. "

And other history that makes that list of taxes less than accurate;-)
