Wars Without End?

So far, only the Revolutionary and Vietnam wars outpace Iraq and Afghanistan. Predictions are that our current wars will eventually be our longest in history.

"In accordance with the principles of double-think it does not matter if the war is not real.  For when it is, victory is not possible. The war is not meant to be won, but it is meant to be continuous."  -- George Orwell

  2. Of course these wars are meant to be continuous.... think of all the profits to be made by the war machine corporations....

the hell with "in God we trust"...... the new motto on the dollar bill should be...
    "perpetual war for perpetual profits".....

  3. Craig,

I guess the real news in that longest wars link is that Afghanistan will pass out the Revolutionary War in five months. Other than that, it looks like their rankings haven't changed in the past two years or so.

  4. It's all double plus ungood ducktalk.

On those occassions when war is monetarily profitable, it is usually only so for a few people. The rest of us get stuck with the tab, crippled, and/or killed.

  5. A colorful hunk of spam going around accuses dumbold rumsfeld of owning Gilead Pharma, the co that owns the patent for Tamiflu, the H1N1 shot. Roche is the maker/distributor.

The spam says that rumdumb gets 10% of each sale, that the babybush Admin contracted the delivery of the shots for $2 B!LL!ON.

Is any of this true ? If so, it might explain why industry can't seem to get it's act together and deliver the goods.

  7. The Cold War with all its permutations was undoubtedly our nation's longest war. Things such as Korea, Vietnam, the Cuban Crisis, armies poised for instant combat in Central Europe, SAC on constant alert, etc., were all part of the Cold War.

Snopes on the Rumsfeld Tamiflu connections

    http://www.snopes.com/politics/medical/tamiflu.asp

Now the dangers that might be heralded are questionable. There was a bad batch of vaccine that caused problems several years ago, but that didn't involve Tamiflu.

You hit the nail on the head. The whole military corporate connection is only beneficial to a small percentage of people. Look how long it took to pay off WW II. It drains money that would be beneficial to the population as a whole and kills off a lot of cannon fodder that the powerful consider basically unnecessary.

Now you can argue over whether or not a particular war might be worth the expense and body count, but usually the answer is NO.

  17. It is just a matter of time..a little bit more time; and the country will be so used to war: the next generations will not even be fased by it...it will be the norm....we must get rid of the two party system. I don't care if Hillary runs again..she is part of this system. It is our faults in the end..we keep putting these suckers back in office.

Remember that I keep saying the Bushes or any of thier people are the ones to watch out for..look for more of the same things that XR just posted about..lot more...Why doesn't the other side-the Dems, insist on asking where Rumsfeld (the defense dept) put that 2 trillion that no one is asking about.....talk about the future generations paying for Obama's spending for the ecomony.....

    Renee,

" Who Hoo" You do get around on that broomzommm mobile; that was lightning fast HA.!

What I wouldn't give to see some presidents son/daughter on the front lines; and for all members of the Sen. and Cong, to do the same..imo, C. Rangle was right on-on this, lets have a draft again. just saying.

The last time that I went to the VA, I saw a women about 35-40 yrs old in therapy..she was screeming about the pain that she was going thru...want to see those that are so much for un-necessary wars; I want to see how they would like to have their loved ones in these conditions.

So soldiering is about the only thing available for many Americans, who were priced out of college, and locked out of entry-level business jobs.
This "War on Terror" has no planned end, and will drain us deeper and deeper towards the total collapse which is now a possibility.

  24. Cheney/Bush, pushed the war. Wolfowitz, Pearl, Powell, etl, were the salesmen....the Owners of the cable stations are friends that pushed the war...this was their advertising medium. We're the ones that shed the blood; are the suckers that fight between oursleves about the validity of the wars...STUPID....we are.

It was argued that we would rather have a stupid cowboy in office cos he meant what he said...never mind that what he said was....WAR...he was not stupid...he was the best salesmen that they could come up with...was he not the best salesmen to promote his baseball team? Ma and Pa Bush along with the Bakers, and the Cheney's talked him into selling us these wars...a President is just a puppet for them all. 9/11 was just the thing they were looking for.!!

Now did they get us into all of these wars just by themselves???? Didn't the Dems. vote for these wars...?? are they not making tons of money themselves...they also want in on the action..they also own defense corps just like the R's do....
Most times I think that this piss ass poor economy was all planned, just so the stupid wars could get their volunteers.....How much is it now to enlist.??? So yes a poor economy, means perpetual war....You can call me a Peace-nick but that's they way that I see it....wanna do something about that HA!

    Solar,

I gotta go to the VA Monday morning. It is always an interesting time. I went there Thursday to get my blood drawn for the Monday appt. It was actually pretty empty. Course this a clinic not a hospital. Every time I have been to the VA hospital in Dallas it was a zoo and very crowded.

Have been running around with clorox wipes all week, I really don't need to get it and have to stop chocolate making. The whole episode made the cover of the Cape Cod Times today- they are being very conservative with the figures too. I heard 100 kids were out of school today

If not, there has to be an 8 x 8 hole in the basement suitable for a turncoat. No chairmanships, and if they have to give him a committee how about the study of snail droppings.

Of course, looking at the House plan, it is a major giveaway to the insurance corps as it is with the potential of a 25% increase above going market rates while handing them tons of business and no relief for three years.

U.S. signs pact with Colombia for base access

By Frank Bajak - The Associated Press
    Posted : Friday Oct 30, 2009 10:53:51 EDT

BOGOTA — In a private, low-key ceremony, the U.S. ambassador and three Colombian ministers Friday signed a pact to expand Washington’s military’s presence, a deal that Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez has called a threat to the region’s security.

U.S. Ambassador William Brownfield signed along with Colombia’s foreign, justice and defense ministers at the Foreign Ministry in Bogota, U.S. Embassy spokeswoman Ana Duque said.

The Foreign Ministry said in a brief news release that the pact “respects the principles of equal sovereignty, territorial integrity and nonintervention in the internal affairs of other states.”

Chavez, who survived a 2002 coup attempt that he claims was U.S.-backed, has said Washington could use the bases agreement to destabilize the region.

However, South America’s main power broker, President Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil, dropped initial objections to the bases agreement after senior U.S. officials visited to explain it.

We are rapidly turning into the British Empire without the financial benefits of keeping the raw materials from our "colonies". Our soldiers sent world wide to pacify and civilize whether necessary or not as our treasury is drained and our infrastructure collapses. There is a big difference between us and the British Empire. We don't have anyone to hand over the Empire too...we are the ones that they handed the batten too...tag we are it.! They pulled out of the Empire business, give us some military support for it...unquestioned...and now they only put about 46 bil per year into their Military....this lets them enjoy the medical benefits that you talk about.
