Congress prevails over Capitol police in charity football game. "The Longest Yard" began in 2005 as a way to raise money for the Capitol Police Memorial Fund. In this year's game, the Mean Machine, made up of Members of Congress and former professional football players, beat the Capitol police Guards team 32-26. It was the first victory for the Members squad in the four times the game has been played. Produced by Andrew Satter, CQ-Roll Call Group.

I'll bet they could beat the Redskins, too.

The only reason to have the Rams is so the Redskins (formerly the Duluth Eskimoes) can have someone to look down on.

Shuler was the QB for the members team...the sad thing is that he looked better than Jamarcus Russell or Jason Campbell...lol

Birthers Lose One More For The Gipper
From CNN :
'In a 30-page ruling, U.S. District Judge David O. Carter of California said his court lacked the jurisdiction to rule on a case intended to unseat a sitting president.'
'Carter's ruling said the plaintiffs were trying to persuade him to "disregard the constitutional procedures in place for the removal of a sitting president." '
' "The process for removal of a sitting president - removal for any reason - is within the province of Congress, not the courts," the ruling said. '
' Carter's ruling also noted that the plaintiffs "have attacked the judiciary, including every prior court that has dismissed their claim, as unpatriotic and even treasonous for refusing to grant their requests and for adhering to the terms of the Constitution." '
' "Respecting the constitutional role and jurisdiction of this court is not unpatriotic," the ruling said. "Quite the contrary, this court considers commitment to that constitutional role to be the ultimate reflection of patriotism." '

Dancing mania
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dancing mania (or choreomania, from the Greek: χορεία (khoreia = 'dance') + μανία (mania = 'madness’) was a social phenomenon that occurred primarily in mainland Europe between the 14th and 18th centuries; it involved groups of people, sometimes thousands at a time, who danced uncontrollably and bizarrely. Men, women, and children would dance through the streets of towns or cities, sometimes foaming at the mouth until they collapsed from fatigue.
One of the first major outbreaks was in Aachen, Germany, on June 24, 1374; the populace danced wildly through the streets, screaming of visions and hallucinations, and even continued to writhe and twist after they were too exhausted to stand. The dancing mania quickly spread throughout Europe, said to be "propagated in epidemic fashion by sight" by Dr. Justus Hecker.
Having occurred to thousands of people across several centuries, dancing mania was not a local event, and was, therefore, well-documented in contemporary writings. More outbreaks were reported in the Netherlands, Cologne, Metz, and later Strasbourg (Dancing Plague of 1518), apparently following pilgrimage routes.
Paracelsus called this disease Chorea and was opposed to connect it with St. Vitus or any other relation with religion.

"What’s Wrong With This Picture?"
“… Nancy Pelosi, to her credit, has been left to round up votes for a tough public option without much help from the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue. You know, the idea that the President could have maybe come in and said, you know what, here’s ten guys that I can sway. If the President of the United States calls it’s tough to say no. We’ve kind of been left to do this on our own and you really need the full-throated support of a president at a moment like this when we’re having a big national debate. … But really, I don’t think we can close this out unless the President really helps us.” – Rep. Anthony Weiner
The above stinger of a quote came earlier this evening on Rachel Maddow’s show. It needs no analysis, because we all know this has been what’s going on or not going on as the case may be."

"Why does Joe Lieberman oppose healthcare reform? Ask his wife"
"Much the same can be said of Sen. Evan Bayh, who emerged from hiding on healthcare to announce that he too plans to filibuster against reform with the Republicans, regardless of what his constituents and Americans in general plainly want. Like Lieberman, his state is home to powerful corporations that want reform killed -- and like Lieberman, his wife has brought home very big paychecks from those same interests."

Now if they evaluated the bill like Jane Hamsher, they might actually be able to turn in their wigs and noses, but then Big Pharma might not continue to support them, and we couldn't ask that of them, now, could we? It would be too much like asking for integrity in Congress.

Tony,
When Mr Obama talked of his mother being uninsured, we thought he had a vision where every American would be insured as a matter of right.
Obviously that wasn't what he meant.
Which makes us stupid for misinterpreting. And, him, a weasel for encouraging us in believing his prevarications.,

"The Defining Moment"
"For progressives, it’s a slightly more difficult decision: They want universal care, and they want the president to succeed — but the proposed legislation falls far short of their ideal. There are still some reform advocates who won’t accept anything short of a full transition to Medicare for all as opposed to a hybrid, compromise system that relies heavily on private insurers. And even those who have reconciled themselves to the political realities are disappointed that the bill doesn’t include a “strong” public option, with payment rates linked to those set by Medicare.
But the bill does include a “medium-strength” public option, in which the public plan would negotiate payment rates — defying the predictions of pundits who have repeatedly declared any kind of public-option plan dead. It also includes more generous subsidies than expected, making it easier for lower-income families to afford coverage. And according to Congressional Budget Office estimates, almost everyone — 96 percent of legal residents too young to receive Medicare — would get health insurance."

Renee, this time it looks like politicians are caught between the voters and their corporate sponsors. And in order to try and please both, they came up with the status quo, wrapped in new verbiage. It's reprehensible.
Tony, Jane is one smart cookie. I always read her stuff at FDL & on Huffpo. I've been promised the opportunity to meet her at some point (we have a mutual friend) and I hope that actually happens one day.

"Yet Another Public Option Poll Puts A Wavering Dem On The Spot"
"Yet another public opinion poll in a state with a conservative Democratic senator shows that the public option not only is widely popular among voters, but could become a potent issue in the upcoming congressional elections.
One day after releasing a Research 2000 survey of Indiana residents -- in a study designed to get the attention of Democratic Sen. Evan Bayh -- the Progressive Change Campaign Committee and Democracy for America is going public with the results from Arkansas, home state of Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln.
The findings are equally persuasive."

Hillary is doing a great job as Secretary of State. Her words in Pakistan evidence her commitment and strength and hopefully, that of our country.
I think some Obama supporters from 2008 are disillusioned because they feel he has pulled a bait-and switch on them.
With the Congressional majorities Democrats have, most of the elements of healthcare reform such as the pre-existing condition issue should have been slam dunks.
The President and hisstaff, undermining a robust public option on a regular basis, have pulled the floor out from under the real fighters of reform like Anthony Weiner.

If a decent Bill dies because of little joe, I'd say take not only his chairmanships, but ALL of his responsibilities, and all of his perks and equipment away. I'd give him a 1 employee, 1 phone office in the basement next to the trash compacter, where blackberries, iphones, cel and sat phones won't work. I'd give him an old Osborn desktop with one of those old black screen green print monitors hooked to his single landline. I wouldn't publish his new office address to the outside world. I'd drop the sumbidge from the nomenklatura entirely.

I grew up in an airline family. It was a shock the first time I saw the Hare Krishnas panhandling in an airport. Flying had already declined from elegance to everyday ordinary nothin' special, but I saw the Krishna invasion as a harbinger of much uglier things to come. Sometimes a fella hates to see his premonitions come true. In short order, airports began to resemble bus stations, and bus stations began to resemble Dante's Inferno.
I picked up a mint copy of that book that the H. K.'s began hard-selling in airports and on street corners a few years later. It was in a thrift store for 50 cents.
It's a very nice coffee table quality book. The text leaves me cold, but it sure is a pretty book.

Tricare announces H1N1 immunization policy
FALLS CHURCH, Va. (AFRNS) – Immunizations against the H1N1 virus will soon be available, and people are eager to take precautions. Tricare Prime, Standard and Extra beneficiaries can get their shots from network and non-network providers without paying a deductible or making a co-payment.
A temporary waiver allows retired Tricare Prime enrollees to get the H1N1 immunization from non-network providers without a referral or authorization, eliminating point-of-service charges. Prime enrollees will not be charged a co-payment or cost share.
Tricare for Life beneficiaries must follow Medicare rules regarding H1N1 vaccine. Medicare will pay for administering the H1N1 vaccine, but not the H1N1 vaccine itself if it is supplied to providers free of charge. Payment will be subject to normal billing and payment rules that apply to influenza vaccine.
