  3. Sarah has a fine near future. She'll become a sort of Ann Coulter with a human face, selling millions of her memoirs (written for her by penny-a-worders) on her syndicated radio show to an ever shrinking demographic of bitter, dying, old codgers with gas, denture breath, and smelly minds.

She will elude the bullets of her almost former inlaws, and that wacked out ex-trooper, ex-bro-inlaw, and make it to the republican convention in 2012. By then, she and soon to be ex-former MN Governor Potholes Aplenty will have torn chunks out of each other, defending the Prez contenders who will have chosen them as running mates. Staid old willard will have picked Palin, and the humorous huckster will have picked prettyboy Potholes Aplenty. Potholes will be the talk of the town with his shy boyish smile and ability to make compelling and empty promises. But Palin will win because she is more butch. The republican convention will be tied through the 243d ballot.

In the general election, the willard-sarah ticket will come in 5th behind :

Obama & Clinton. Biden will take over as Czar Czar (D) 51.4%

Kinky Friedman's Unleash the Dogs Party (FUD)-37.8%, Carries TX by a landslide and NY by a split hair.

ron paul's Anarchist/Libertarian Party ("Every Man For Himself") - 8.7% Wins squeekers in AK, ID, WY, and UT

ralph nadir's Many Trials Party, as it is called on the West Coast, or Lawsuit Party, as it is called in the East (MT/SUIT) - 2.1%

and lyndon larouche's Salvation LaRouche Party (SALAROUP) - .9%

    willard & Palin republican party (R) - .89 %

  4. I must have missed this earlier this summer .
    http://www.topix.com/forum/us/republican/TDNOO65PB3VSNI9VA :

"GOP Rep. Says Uninsured Woman Should Seek Charity
At the Richmond Times-Dispatch “public square” forum yesterday, Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) took questions from his constituents on the health reform debate for the first time this summer. One such constituent, Patricia Churchill, spoke about a close family member, now unemployed and thus uninsured, who is dying of tumors. Cantor suggested that Churchill’s relative seek 'existing government programs' or find charity."

So, why aren't pong, tir, mqw, and jtrader hip to this latest republican line that Government solves problems ?

  5. Hey, Craig!

On an unrelated topic, good job on C-Span yesterday. You've probably figured it out by now, but the guy from Metarie who referred to the "Heglian Dialect," though he did get at least the spelling of the first part right if not the pronunciation, was undoubtedly talking about the Hegelian Dialectic.

He had me confused as well and I first thought he might be referring to the language from the movie, The Day the Earth Stood Still. Following that twisted logical path potentially reveals the light at the end of the tunnel for the Senate's endless "discussion" of health care:

If the alien spaceship could shut down the earth's electrical system in the interest of world peace, why wouldn't universal coverage be part of the sequel?

P.S.: I have always loved and admired Helen Thomas and just pre-ordered your new book with her on my Kindle. Good luck with it!

  7. How about lets talk about the UN.

Give Barack credit (Most likely Hillary (with Bill behind Hillary) behind the scene) if real sanctions get pushed on IRAN to stop the Nuclear push.

Now be careful Barack... Same story with Bush and IRAQ and then the spineless and do nothing but suck our dollars - corrupt UN and the sleeze that they are would not stand together when it matters.

So be careful Barack and use that skill you have to enchant those in the UN and pull a fast one for the good of all.

  8. Who is that behind those Foster Grants? Oh, her. The worst thing that could happen to her isn't being called the new Mann Coulter, it's being ignored.

Craig is correct in thinking she will string this out as long as she can, but won't run in 2012. She is all about attention, good or bad.

It's a sick psychology summed up in a quote from my new, fave show & shows how she's gotten as far as she has on so little intellectual gas:

"There's not much of a difference between a stadium full of cheering fans and an angry crowd screaming abuse at you. They're both just making a lot of noise. How you take it is up to you. Convince yourself they're cheering for you. You do that, and some day, they will."

Don't know if this news made it to the national news or not:

"Undercover agents met with Smadi at least 10 times and talked to him at least 40 times while he hatched his plot to commit jihad, or holy war, against the "Romans (Christians) and Jews," an arrest warrant affidavit says. The FBI said Smadi was in the country illegally and lived and worked in Italy, about 45 minutes south of Dallas."

Hmmmmm, he lived in Italy, Texas and had a problem with "Romans."

  11. Ping, you are quie funny. Craig, you were good before the camera as usual. Yep, you should have a show of your own, but perhaps not on MSNBC. From last night's exchange about MSNBC, these words this morning from AP:

"Dee Davis, president of the Center for Rural Strategies in nearby Whitesburg, said the federal government has done "precious little" in Clay County other than building a federal prison in Manchester in the 1990s. But he is not aware of any deep-seated hatred of the government.

"Government is not seen as the enemy, except for people who might fear getting caught for what they're doing," he said.

University of Pittsburgh sociologist Kathleen Blee, co-author of a book about Clay County, says that when she heard of Sparkman's death, she initially wondered whether he had stumbled across a marijuana plot.

Pot growers seeking to avoid federal forfeiture statutes often plant their crops on national forest land and have even been known to booby-trap plots with explosives and rattlesnakes.

"Like any poor county, people are engaged in a variety of revenue sources," she said. "Not all of them legal."

Army retiree George Robinson did door-to-door census work in Clay County in 2000. No one ever threatened him, but some people questioned why the government needed to know some of the information, especially income, requested on the census form."

Of course this goes much deep in print than Maddow did with her own cable show. In any case, have a great morning. It looks like another beauty in NYC except for that damn UN traffic.

There ARE other facilities, so I would say Debka and a few alternative news sources branded as loonie by the denialists are often correct and that Iran is likely ready for the bomb. Only a South African disclosure can now defuse the situation.

    (1) Orders nuke attack on Saudi Arabia, by mistake. (Meant to say Iran.)

    (2) Replaces White House Press Briefing room with rifle range.

    (3) Wounds Chuck Todd when he fails to hold target steady.

    (4) Sends Vice President Romney to undisclosed location, until further notice.

    (5) Creates new White House banquet menu item: "Mooseburgers."

Obama himself has repeatedly stated his motive is not to change the system but lower cost and cover the uninsured. I am not sure what mandate you're talking about. It certainly wasn't Moore's mantra that capitalism is evil and an enemey of Democracy that got Obama elected. For the record, Mossad seems to have bettered our Intel and that is more important than Palin too.

Sounds cool. I'll have to give you my website. I find my base cabinets are just a tad bigger than my undermounts so it is easy to add some framing and use the base to hold sink rather than drill holes into granite and clip against gravity.

I'm putting in some Armstrong cabinets next month. Kritt were the nicest I ever installed, but one could have bought a car with what they cost my client. I bet you do nice work Sturg. I wish I was working for a coal executive. I wouldn't have to give him my usual "I know you can't afford it" discount.

Never use formica or Corian these days. Stainless, granite, slate, marble, quartz are my likes. I would love to try the concrete epoxy counters as they seem strong, cheap and cool looking. Have you done any like that?

I suspect you would like her to run because she would lose. On the other hand, the GOP hasn't come up with anything more newsworthy yet.

Here's my prediction, and it's something Keith and Howard Fineman talked about last night: I think a public option will come out of the house, the senate will NOT pass a bill with it, but it'll re-emerge in conference. I really think the admin has a handle on this.. and everything else.

Here's what happens every day, I'll use Jimmy Carter's interview as an example. I saw Carter's interview the evening he gave it. He SAID that the extremism that was exhibited at town halls had deep seeded roots in racism. He did NOT say that all criticism was rooted in racism. He was TALKING about what we were all talking about: those idjits carrying guns, talking about death panels, screaming that they "want their country back" -- now what country exactly DO they want back? 40 years ago?? Now what are the talking heads going on about? That Jimmy Carter called everyone who disagrees with policy a racist. He DIDN'T say anything of the kind, but THAT's what they're all saying. Even when you've seen the original interview with your own eyes, they start in on revisionist history!!

  51. Agreed, if you want real health care WITH choice and lower premiums, single payer is the way to go, but that'll never get passed. Actually, our system is NOT exclusively single payer. Many employees have mutual-payer benefits (although you'll find that most of these healthcare benefits are ADDED to a bottom-line healthcare program that everyone is part of). Don't know if I've explained this well, but... everyone pays into taxes which fund a basic healthcare program..then if you work at a company that has extra healthcare (eyeglasses, dental, etc) then it is a co-pay situation.

US, UK, French heads demand Iran nuke site opened
"Armed with the disclosure of a secret Iranian nuclear facility, President Barack Obama and the leaders of France and Britain demanded Friday that Tehran fully disclose its nuclear ambitions "or be held accountable" to an impatient world community.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Iran has until December to comply or face new sanctions. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown accused Iran of "serial deception."

    Tylenol

It is actually the same here with Medicare. There are wrap around and supplemental policies for costs above co pays, dental etc.

It wouldn't put the insurance companies out of business to go single payer. In fact they would probably end up making more by having additional policy holders for the extras and add ons without having to pay out as much.

Flatus--if it is Clay Co. KY--they are--or at one time were--one of the poorest counties in the state, fallout from a feud that involved four families, had the body count of a small war and made the Hatfields and McCoys look positively prim and proper. The feud lasted from the eighteen-forties to the end of WWII, ending when most of the young people moved away to find jobs in the north; businesses for many years wouldn't locate there.

The revenuer idea is a distinct possibility too. "The people who might fear getting caught" referenced in the article Max quoted are, as here, most likely cookin' meth these days, though.

There ARE other facilities, so I would say Debka and a few alternative news sources branded as loonie by the denialists are often correct and that Iran is likely ready for the bomb. "

I don't remember anyone ever denying that there were secret nuclear facilities in Iran - except the Iranians. Several people have said that they have found no evidence, but that is not the same as denial. Anyway, who else are you talking about ?

One of the problems with debka is that they called for immediate attacks on Irans nuclear facilities 1 1/2 years ago, if not earlier. Had anyone attacked then, today we would be living in a fool's paradise, thinking that the correct plant(s) had been destroyed. One can't just willy nilly attack an enemy without having a rough estimate of their strength, order of battle, & positions.

That is only one of the problems with debka. Another is their refusal to name sources, and a third is that they have a horrible track record for publishing assertions that turn out to be exaggerated or downright false.

The report I read said that the 'secret' nuclear operation is near Qom. Do we know how close ? Is it close enough for a 2-fer ?

Accidents can happen. I mean, look a Chernobyl. It took out a city, made the richest farmland in the soviet union - the size of Iowa - unuseable, cut off electricity to millions of people, made at least a half million people homeless and unemployed, and destroyed the faith 300,000,000 slaves had in their masters.

Not surprisingly, he employs the term most often when he's frustrated that attention is being devoted to what he considers distractions to his agenda: The Henry Gates police incident, rowdy town halls, South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson's outburst -- all made-for-cable moments that Obama has come to dismiss as unworthy diversions.

Those signs have been there for 7 years now, and I really doubt that they have the capability of changing the color of the alert. I figured the babybushcheney WH would want to keep us in a state of fear just short of panic in perpetuity, which is a fairly long gig.

Of course, the big terrorism bust at the airport was Senator larry craig's toe-tapping messages, "Have gun. Will travel." And, "This is a 44 Magnum [22 short, to tell the truth] , the most powerful gun in the world. Feeling lucky ?"

Just watched one of those phony "citizens for blah blah" commercials funded by the insurance companies. If it weren't my TV I would have thrown something through the screen:

Tell the President you don't want his public option. Tell the President you don't want government control of your health. The President's Public option COULD LEAD to (list horrors here).

There really should be something illegal about corporations being considered people with free speech. Or here's a bright idea, a network with enough ethics to refuse to run this dishonest crud without full disclosure as to the source of the money.

Finally some scientific proof that the Iranian election was a fraud. The question is why this wasn't caught earlier.

I see Ahmadinjad says the West will regret Obama's accusation today. I note that there has already been identification by MEK of a warhead design facility several months ago and now two more sites cited last week involved in detonation systems. Of course, the ISraeli Press leaked some info on Iran prepping a test site. Now we see that Obama was quite restrained knowing this as I suspect from his daily briefings. If he can swing this around and take on Iran with more support than China and Russia was willing to give, Bush,,kudos.

I hope Brezinski feels like a fool. I know he was due on TV, but I think I missed it.

New York Press was rather impressed with Netanyahu. While I do not know what goes on behind back doors, I can only hope it is as smart, determined and well executed as the Cuban Missile Crisis. This is a fascinating read if you haven't the fortune to look at it yet:

    http://avalon.law.yale.edu/subject_menus/msc_cubamenu.asp

-perhaps the best stuff on the subject. I wonder if Craig can draw any similarities between the dark shuffling now compared to back in 62. There sure as hell more players now and more Press which Kennedy had some issues with.

So Ahmadinejackass says he "does not need to tell the Obama administration where every secret Iranian facility is".

He certainly isn't going to out debate Obama on that question. Try again.......

  159. Well, Warren, many here in the US said it appeared that Ahmadinejad won. No serious proof has been offered to date. If Ki-Moon can tell Honduras when a "fair" election will take place, why has the UN rubber stamped Iran's election?

I would think you would say that my claims last summer were correct and all of you trying to explain that it would take years for Iran to get a nuke and delivery system were wrong. Seems my sources were more accurate than your sources. During this time you thought there was no grave risk, sanctions were labeled more neocon crap. We did nothing. Yep, I did say the NEI report in 2007 was wrong, but there are still other secret facilites and a global network of operatives. Wishing won't make this go away.

Well anyway, I have lots of suggestions regarding Iran but the one that counts comes from Obama.

You ought to guess what the next smart move is. Netanyahu's speech lays down the reasoning for the stick as does Obama's latest order of super bunker busters. Add some international unity and perhaps we can get a blink before something harsher.

Did he answer the question Warren? He suggested the US murdered Nada as he implied the US had murdered a woman in the staging of the coup attempt on Chavez. As for WW2, let historians freely debate the issue and form a fair consensus? Fuck him. "Lot's of people died and we should have sympathy for all of them".

As far as the secret facility, why did he disclose it hours before Obama's disclosure? Why is the facility on a military base? How about the other facilities and his claim Obama does not need to know every secret facility? (three other sites I have mentioned here 1. warhead plant with North Korean compounds 2. detonator design and 3. detonator production -all disclosed by MEK) What about his spititual advisor blessing the rape of prisoners to gain confessions? Rape of men and women alike. He compared that to the protests in Pittsburg and the murder every day in our prisons. This was a reasonable man? You make him seem more sensibile than Beck or Hannity.

This was an unbalanced man forgetting he was on US TV after his first statement which he considered his most important. There is more that we and Israel have on Iran. He insulted Sarkozy, made fun of Blair and Bush and lectured Obama. He said the size of the protest seen on cell phones was because the majority was out in the street defending the regime. What idiot believes this? I posted statistical analysis that refutes the absurd answer he had on the ballots.

He could have been clever. Instead, he was poorly acting, pitted against the elderly. You should see his look when Time ambushed him in the morning. That's the smirk we so admire.

    King: Are you confident?

    Ahamadinejad: Of what?

He laughed at the mere thought of Israel attacking Iran. A great and powerful nation doesn't worry about a smaller one attacking it.

King: they could take out most of your facilities.

Ahmadinejad: They would regret that after our response.

"Thank you Mr. President, it was nice having you here"? Did Larry really say that? What a lame interview. Why not just let him have 30 minutes of airtime. That would be better. Really a bad showing. Now tell me, wouldn't it have been better with O'Reilly, Colbert or even Anderson? This was embarrassing.

About the only inspection that would work is South African style. He will NEVER do that.

And for all you not certain of the deeper game: Netanyahu had the same Intel. He let Obama release it instead of using even more evidence to refute the IAEA latest watered down report. I suspect there is an agreement not to release more Intel as those facilities are presently targets in a simulation.

One scenario is Obama to wait until those super bunker busters are available next July. He can then dump a ream of Intel including the final prep to a test site. Until then his moves will be far more measured. I sense Hillary in the background. She may lead our one and only attempt to "talk". There is unfortunately a clock ticking........

Iranians are fairly clever. Obama is doing a rather difficult dance.

I did not say Ahmadinejad had a strong case on any front. He is grasping at straws re: Nada and disclosure of the base.

But it is clear that he is just trying to deflect attention from the gaping holes in his position - which - again - is still the rational thing to do.

Now the resfusal to acknowledge the Holocaust - I suspect is some badge of honor in the Muslim world - but he was very careful not to outright deny it. A horrible thing indeed - but there is a horrible relationship between many Muslims and Jews in the Middle East.

And there is something to the point he kept coming back to. Now of course it is no direct answer to Larry's Question - but I do agree that it is more constructive to focus our attention on how to sort out the - current - Israeli-Palestinian problem rather than debate the past.

And don't take my point for more than it is. I am simply pleased that he did not come on, thumb his nose and say Iran is going to build a bomb no matter what the world says.

And my point is relative - as I am comparing him to Saddam or Kim Jon.

  202. I've got to wonder if there isn't a strong tug-of-war going on in Iran between politicians and the clergy. A lot of clergy don't want leaders involved in politics. A mix we've learned here in the US that doesn't mix well.

The clergy is clearly against nuclear weapons, the more ambitious political group would like weapons as a club.

Ahmadinejad is a true believer, but has the leverage of being a big fish in a small pond. Just a pond the US has chosen to focus on and make larger than life.

Add in an unhappy population and the threat of more sanctions making every day life more miserable and this could be an interesting struggle.

In the meantime, Olmert goes on trial again showcasing one on the most corrupt governments in the world. I still can't believe the participation of Israeli politicians in corruption and the slave trade.

I'm hoping to get back to DC soon and look into the efforts of J-Street. Maybe there is hope of a true change in the status quo. So far it's been like Turkey. Ecevet and Demeril, back and forth with no real change.

From Huffington on the Sparkman murder.

BIG CREEK, Ky. — A part-time census worker found hanging in a rural Kentucky cemetery was naked, gagged and had his hands and feet bound with duct tape, said an Ohio man who discovered the body two weeks ago.

The word "fed" was written in felt-tip pen on 51-year-old Bill Sparkman's chest, but authorities have released very few other details in the case, such as whether they think it was an accident, suicide or homicide.

"He was murdered," Weaver said. "There's no doubt."

"The only thing he had on was a pair of socks," Weaver said. "And they had duct-taped his hands, his wrists. He had duct tape over his eyes, and they gagged him with a red rag or something."

Now he is just shooting the shit with this Frank Luntz focus group and asks - how many think the US Dollar will not exist in 5 years? Now you could probably count on one hand the number of people that did not raise their hand. Even Beck was surprised. But of course he didn't say anything.

That is why you cannot argue with these people. (Or should I say you can not argue "this way.")

You are right Beck. I cannot tell you with absolute certainty that the dollar will not disappear off the face of Earth in five years. There could be a chain of worst case scenarios or an E.L.E.

But worrying about czars, indoctrination or death panels is not helping us solve any of the practical problems that surround us today.

Now if they actually spent this show talking about the dollar and fiscal responsibility at any length - that one be one thing. But instead it is filled with gasps, raised eyebrows and shouts of "give us our Country back."

It is rather funny that some question the GOP sanity in regard for their taste for creationism. Ahmadinejad's belief system strains the concept of rationality. That's a Moore mantra Warren. The concept of merit is replaced by the timecard and the Federal Book of pay grade. I rather suspect stock holder have some responsibility that their CEO sometimes make 500 times what the stock room dude makes. 262. " Rhapsody in Blue is a musical composition by George Gershwin for solo piano and jazz band written in 1924, which combines elements of classical music with jazz-influenced effects. The composition was orchestrated by Ferde Grofé three times, in 1924, in 1926, and finally in 1946. The piece received its premiere in a concert entitled An Experiment in Modern Music, which was held on 12 February 1924, in Aeolian Hall, New York, by Paul Whiteman and his band with Gershwin playing the piano. The version for piano and symphonic orchestra, orchestrated by Ferde Grofé in 1942, has become one of the most popular American concert works. "

patsi -- I was asked on twitter about CQ layoffs this week and responded. After the recent Economist/Roll Call purchase of CQ it was to be expected. Still, never easy to see friends and colleagues leaving. But there's gonna be some cool stuff ahead as CQ Politics and Roll Call's Congress.org get together for a new consumer politics site next year. TM is alive and well going forward as is -- so nobody needs to worry about that.

  267. As I explained in this post from about three years ago, I bought my first Mac because I was finally at a point in my life where I had enough money and computers were central enough to what I do, that I could afford to buy a really good personal computer. I'd been using PCs for about twenty years. But try as I might, I realized that I simply could not find a computer in the PC world that was well manufactured or worked very well. So out of pure desperation I bought a Mac to see if they were any better and I never looked back.

  268. ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - A rift widened between the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and some utilities as another major power provider quit over the business group's hard stance on pending climate regulation.

The Public Service Company of New Mexico, the state's largest utility, quit the chamber Friday just days after California's largest utility, Pacific Gas and Electric Co., said it was leaving because of the chamber's "extreme" positions.

This is a pretty good summary of what the majority of Israelis are now concluding. It speaks to the distance between rhetoric and closed door meetings. I rather doubt this looks like the record of such meetings during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

At the end of the day, if the result of US policy is a face-saving capitulation, history will not be kind, nor voters. We do want our politicians to be honest about what is fact and fiction. If we can't verifiy the veracity of rhetoric, we will hardly be able to verifiy compliance.

And it doesn't take much to make him cry. Mitch and Boehner are viewed less favorably than Dick Cheney was during the dark days of the Bush administration. Why don't we hear about that on teevee?

They all have had breast cancer, a disease that strikes fewer than 2,000 men in the United States a year, compared with about 200,000 women. Each has had part of his chest removed as part of his treatment, along with chemotherapy, radiation or both.

See my link above Joe. Of course, I understand the nature of secrecy but I can't help remembering the drubbing Obama gave Hillary over her lecture about "smart" diplomacy and being honesty to the American People. If what the Debka report says is true (they have a good track record), then this is not exactly the kind of secrecy, I think you had in mind.

Is it just irony that for more than a year Democrats have rejected sanctions and now when the topic comes forward, it is probably too late? Patd I believe posted a link some time back to FA that explained why this is being too late is so, unless sanctions are unusually harsh and more like an embargo. I repeat:

"Iran says the new facility won't be operational for 18 months so Iran has not violated any IAEA requirements.

A close aide to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, however, said said Saturday that the Qom facility will be operational soon.

"This new facility, God willing, will become operational soon and will blind the eyes of the enemies," Mohammad Mohammadi Golpayegani told the semi-official Fars news agency. It is not clear if he meant less than 18 months.

Salehi said that by reporting the existence of the site voluntarily to the IAEA, Iran "pre-empted a conspiracy" against Tehran by the U.S. and its allies who were hoping to reveal the site as evidence that Iran was developing its nuclear program in secret.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran has foiled their planned conspiracy," he said.

Salehi said construction of the Qom facility was a "precautionary measure" to protect Iran's nuclear facilities from possible attacks.

"Given the threats we face every day, we are required to take the necessary precautionary measures, spread our facilities and protect our human assets. Therefore, the facility is to guarantee the continuation of our nuclear activities under any conditions," he told the television." AP (also note Ahmadinejad's pre-condition to talks that not every secret facility must be disclosed to the Obama administration).

And then this news that is already old: (the reason Chavez closed a church near the uranium field years ago because he said it was a CIA listening post).

    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/26/world/americas/26venez.html

Ironic France now takes on Iran after giving Bush the cold shoulder. Merkel ignores terror threats. Lebanon edges towards disorder. Syria continues to fuel Iraqi insurgents, Hamas still thwarts peace on orders from Iran. Can we completely ignore the role Iran has in terror and sustaining the network? It doesn't take a genius how false flag operations and "plausible deniability" will come into play once Iran goes nuke and ups support of proxy operations, less fearful of retaliation. That seems reasonable enough an assumption based on the history. After all, The Iranian Defense Minister murdered Jews worshipping in Argentina. Iran is also also suspected of supplying chemical and even biological weapons to Hizb'Allah along with new advanced missiles.

So what does this administration really know? You can't hide all the stuff behind the cloak of diplomacy. This is what the Democrats accused Bush of doing. History is usually unkind in such matters.

Especially once all Hell breaks loose.

My experience at the US Chamber was that they really didn't care about their members other than whether or not the dues came in to pay the people in the building very, very well. Their lobbying was often at cross purposes with one group of members (usually the small ones) being shafted for another group that brought in more cash.

Other than the money, it was the power and relationships and having a great big space where the President could speak by just walking across the street.
