The Rangel Hypocrisy

| | Comments (127)

rangel4.jpgOnly blind cynical partisanship can possibly explain the Democratic Party's tolerance of Charlie Rangel. As the evidence mounts against the New York congressman, nothing happens. Indeed, the House does not even make a sincere effort to examine the evidence. If he were a Republican we would be hearing holy terror from his side of the aisle. These hypocritical double standards, depending on which party is running things, are exactly what give the public so little faith in congressional leadership.

      2. I've kept a TV on Fox and Friends for a half hour now and I have to see any mention of Kennedy's death by the anchors. Only mention on the bottom crawl. Does this mean that if we watch that network only, he will continue to live?

Personal opinion based on things such as the commentors to Palin's message, the town halls, the fact that FOX didn't mention death until Major Garrett piece about five minutes ago and then immediately went to Town Halls and bad mouthing health care. Then there is a long, long memory and what happened after the assassinations of Jack and Bobby.

It doesn't apply to all Republicans or even all conservatives, but there is a very ugly element in American politics that are racist and violent. FOX regularly eggs them on as can be seen by the Town Halls.

and the water shortage.... in 2000 Rick and I went to Arizona to celebrate our 25th anniversary. I wanted to take a hot air balloon ride over the desert... which we did in Sedona and was worth every penny.

We also went to Page and took several boat tours on Lake Powell. The most spectacular one was to go see the Rainbow Bridge Monument. It's down a very narrow canyon and we pulled right up to it in the boat. From reading about a new book written about the Glen Canyon Dam the other day, I've learnt that in order to see this spectacular sight now.... one must hike a mile from where the boat stops. The water level in the lake has dropped over 100 ft. Knowing how many people depend on that water.... that's a scary thing.

Ha! It is because i am a lawyer, thus you should feel that way. It is also because we disagree on certain issues.

      I think that a bi-partisan commission that:

      1. Collected all the information
      2. Discredited and deplored the use of torture
      3. Placed the blame right where it belongs (i.e., Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, etc.)

Would be better than piecemeal trials and a political sideshow.

And yes - I think the truth commission should have granted immunity to everyone that cooperated.

You point to Nuremburg trials - to argue that war crimes require prosecutions no matter and politics can't be involved...

Of late because PBS depends so on Corporate sponsorship there has been a tendency to pull punches on issues where they would have previously been on the forefront. It may have been a reflection of the eight years or Republican influence and potential loss of government money as well. Add in the economic downturn cutting into subscribers, and the combination has really hurt financially.

Frontline may have been a poor example but there has been a "play it safe" mentality at work.

First the closeness to the President. Second, I've watched her handle her town halls in the face of a whole lot of noise and nonsense. She has done it with grace and humor despite being opposed to everything those people are doing. Third, it's time for a lioness instead of a lion to lead the pride and she is one of the few the Senate has. Fourth, she is from the "flyover" portion of the country. We need to get away from the coast states and involve the whole of the nation in the issues.

Could go on, but those are the ones off the top of my head.

Yes I do believe that War Crimes were committed by American Soldiers, however as usual we never prosecute our own now do we?

And if we do they get slaps on the wrist and are not held up to the same standards we used on the Nazi Prosecutions.

I still remember the Nicaraguan Death Squads we trained that killed Nuns and Children. No different than Blackwater now known as Ze. And yes I'm disappointed that Obama hasn't removed them from Government Contracts or pursued them for their War Crimes.

And so we allow it to expand and grow as it destroys what our nation was built on.

And no its not because your a lawyer, so is pogo and I find him more honest and trustworthy than you.

    82. Max, your twisting is incredible.

Carter referred to the situation in Darfur as "atrocities" and a "horrible situation" that he said did not meet the legal definition of genocide, and that calling what was occurring there genocide was legally inaccurate and not helpful to a process to try and improve things there. The RW blogs and sites jumped with both feet, and like you, implied (some simply stated it) that Carter did not think the situation in Sudan was serious. RW bullshit at its finest.

      http://www.turkishweekly.net/news/49293/carter-there-is-no-genocide-in-darfur-.html

And here's what Carter said about the Iranian election, "Former President Jimmy Carter said he expects no major change in Iran's policies.
"I think this election has bought out a lot of opposition to his policies in Iran, and I'm sure he'll listen to those opinions and hopefully moderate his position," said Carter after meeting with Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad in the West Bank city of Ramallah."

And that was from RW shill site Newsmax.com.

      http://www.newsmax.com/headlines/iran_election_Ahmadinejad/2009/06/13/224802.html

    85. I already have had a cpl of phone calls from my family: The Kennedy's were giants to us; my Mom cried all day for JFK, she will cry some for Ted. Im with Flatus, with mixed emotions.

      Craig:

Thanks for this thread:( this is one we should stay on topic) It shows how even handed you are once again; and would like more threads that shows the hypocrisy of both partys'.....Charlie R. it seems is no different than any other politician, that has been in congress, or in the senate for far too long.....we keep electing them back in, time after time.

This is directly our fault in the long run. What would we have to loose by electing a new congress man, or women after they have served.....3 terms? Just their experience: The experience of knowing how to line thier own pockets, and that of their corp, friends that give them the $ to get re-elected, I don't think that a rookie would be so bad......so Charlie Rangel is the fault of the straight line party voter...time to get a third party in there........Teach, I have to disagree when you say that you don't trust R. Paul....by saying this, I think that you meant on some issue; we should not trust any of them imo............

      Max.,

You are complaining about $ spent here in the states? and want to use more for infrastructure....I agree; how about we stop giving 3 bil plus to the Neocon Israili's ? and bring all of our soldiers home for one year. leave a skeleton force where they could watch.....

      XR,

Im no military expert, far from it; very far: But a few months back, I said that if we pushed the Taliban from the western boarders of Afghanistan, into the eastern ones of Pakistan,,that it would be a very large mistake......guess what....we need to get out of there completely, and stop giving Karzi our tax $. he and his pals are getting very rich, while we stave millions of innocents; and turn them into haters of Americans.....just sayin.

Charlie Crist (R) noted that he inserted a note with the prayer during a trade mission to Israel in 2007 and that no major hurricanes had struck the state since."

The prayer, according to The Associated Press, was, "Dear God, please protect our Florida from storms and other difficulties. Charlie."

Crist said after his speech, according to the AP, that he wasn't taking credit for the lack of hurricanes. "I give that to God," he said. "But it's nice."

Terror groups are right here-here in the states.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A North Carolina man named as the ringleader of an aspiring terrorism group sold most of the weapons he purchased and wanted to make sure his children were familiar with guns, one of the sons told federal agents in a report released Tuesday.

Dylan Boyd, in explaining why his family had so many weapons, told the FBI when he was arrested last month that Muslim practice says men should be strong and able to shoot guns in case they are attacked. He estimated that the family had about 10 weapons, including two that father Daniel Patrick Boyd had agreed to sell that day.
