  1. Craig,

Your sample nanny is a little too close to my age. How about getting back over to the French Embassy and send me one of those attractive young au pairs?

  3. So I didn't see any comments on the racist Jeff Sessions who now has put a hold on the confirmation vote of Judge Sotomayor.

They just don't want to put anyone who is not pure white in any position of power, even a woman.

I'm worried about the "war against ignorance" though. Does that mean I'll be kicked out of here?

  8. "They just don't want to put anyone who is not pure white in any position of power...."
ap, the congress critters seem to like exclusions rather than inclusions. example:

"The Chinese Exclusion Act was the first significant restriction on free immigration in U.S. history.[3] The Act excluded Chinese "skilled and unskilled laborers and Chinese employed in mining" from entering the country for ten years under penalty of imprisonment and deportation.[3][4] The few Chinese non-laborers who wished to immigrate had to obtain certification from the Chinese government that they were qualified to immigrate, which tended to be difficult to prove.[4]

The Act also affected Chinese who were already in the United States. Any Chinese who left the United States had to obtain certifications for reentry, and the Act made Chinese immigrants permanent aliens by excluding them from U.S. citizenship.[3][4] After the Act's passage, Chinese men in the U.S. had little chance of ever reuniting with their wives, or of starting families in their new home.[3]"

  9. more from wiki link:

"The Chinese Exclusion Act was repealed by the 1943 Magnuson Act, which permitted Chinese nationals already residing in the country to become naturalized citizens. It also allowed a national quota of 105 Chinese immigrants per year, although large scale Chinese immigration did not occur until the passage of the Immigration Act of 1965. Despite the fact that the exclusion act was repealed in 1943 the law in California that Chinese-Americans were not able to marry whites wasn't repealed until 1948.[10]

Even today, although all its constituent sections have long been repealed, Chapter 7 of Title 8 of the United States Code is headed, "Exclusion of Chinese."[11] It is the only chapter of the 15 chapters in Title 8 (Aliens and Nationality) that is completely focused on a specific nationality or ethnic group."

    Here's the money quote:

"ON PAGE 425 OF OBAMA’S HEALTH CARE BILL, the Federal Government will require EVERYONE who is on Social Security to undergo a counseling session every 5 years with the objective being that they will explain to them just how to end their own life earlier. Yes...They are going to push SUICIDE to cut medicare spending!"

It appears that maybe Palin will run in 2012 and take all the nuts with her leaving the Republican Base with nothing.

The scary part is that some very sane citizens may end up voting for her as a third party and win the Presidency.

wondering if I can get one of those even if I don't have children....

and that magazine you're holding is excellent, IMO.... been getting a subscription to The Economist for only a few months and we enjoy it very much...and Flatus made a good point.... the Brits aren't self-obsessed like us.

Patsi.... I finally got one of those wing nut emails about healthcare last week. It was from the woman running the library. She was all concerned about the Democrats trying to get "socialized" medicine. I sent her back an email saying: "yeah, next thing you know they'll want our tax money to build buildings that will house all these books, magazines, dvds, and computers...
and they'll let anyone in the door to use them or take them out for FREE... those goddamn socialists... when will this madness stop." Hope she got the point.

  21. The health care reform dilemma that remains unanswered.

"Challenge to health bill: selling reform" NYT
    By David Leonhardt

Starts with the question that so far has not been
answered--- "What's in it for me?"

"The immediate task facing Mr. Obama--in his news conference on Wednesday night & beyond--is to
explain that the health care system doesn't really work the way it seems to.

He won't be able to put it in such blunt terms. But he will need to explain how a typical household, one that has insurance & thinks it always will, is being harmed."

"So far no one has grabbed the mantle as the defender
of the typical household--the opponent of spending that creates profits for drug companies & hospitals at no benefit to people's health & at significant cost to their finances."

    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/22/business/economy/22leonhardt.html?_r=1&hp

  22. GREAT answer, Renee! I had a conversation the other day with a guy who has had SERIOUS health issues...his care must have cost millions. He has worked for the same hotel as a bus boy for decades, and has insurance. He asked me why he, as a tax payer should subsidize someone's health care. He honest to God said: "I worked for 'mine' and don't see why I'm expected to take care of anybody else." I told him I had two thoughts:

First, we who did pay premiums for years and didn't have any major problems subsidized HIS liver transplant.

And second, since I know he is "deadly" about people tipping him, I asked hm why I should tip him at all, thereby subsidizing his low pay from a big hotel chain.

Sometimes the only way to make anyone pay attention is to bring it right to their doorsteps!

  23. Health-Care Reform is an Idea Whose time has Come...., and we must not allow Republican hacks to Obstruct and "Swift-Boat" this most needed reform, because Health care costs have spiraled out of control and are one of the basic culprits Directly related to our collapsing economic condition. We are drowning in this growing quicksand, which calls for an urgent and immediate address and attention. This is its time -- this is its moment.

GOP sponsored Media and politicians love to talk about Pres. Obama's apparent sinking poll numbers, but when one is on the Battlefield for positive change, one cannot pause to worry and fret about "allegedly" sinking poll numbers.... that is a "Trojan horse", For One cannot worry about the Separated Self, when they have the People's business to do!

It is hard to Change old habits of greed and selfish power to one of cooperation and a public good for all. Pres. Obama is going up against a Monster of Greed and Corruption that does not want to give up its power and control. This monster will Lie, Steal and Deceive. Now they are trying to say Pres. Obama is not an American citizen. We the people must not allow this Monster of Corruption to continue to have its way, which will only continue to bankrupt the United States. We must stand firm with Pres. Obama who truly represents the Change the people need and have voted for. He has the Vision and Will and sees the possibilities, while the Party of No Has no vision and only sees darkness and gloom.

GOP Media and politicians, say Pres. Obama is doing too much at one time, but if we in our own lives can do more than One thing at a time, so can Congress, and it is their duty and business to do so. If those in Congress want to continue to be a Do Nothing Congress, than we must elect leaders who can do Something for the whole of humanity and not just the separated self or special interest party.

Members of Congress have great insurance coverage, and a cushy salary. They do not live under the fear of unemployment and no insurance coverage. Congress was voted in to work on Behalf of the People, so they too, do not have to live in that fear... Yet, while in the care and leadership of the GOP, Congress has done a miserable job on taking care of the people and now the GOP want to obstruct the Democrats from putting into laws that which will benefit the people and grow the economy, not bankrupt it. But people are turning a deaf ear to the deceitful "Wizards of Oz" for they want us to continue to travel their yellow brick road of deception, while Pretending to be Helpful and Concerned! We must become immune to their lies and vigilant to their deception if we are to make progress towards prosperity and wholeness again.

I call on those of goodwill to work, speak-up and Stand firm for Change and for transformation -- towards a more just and equitable government for all.

"Waxman, Blue Dogs strike deal on costs"

"Moderate House Democrats and a key committee chairman emerged from a three-hour meeting at the White House on Tuesday with a tentative agreement to give an outside panel — rather than Congress — the power to make cuts to government-financed health care programs.

OMB Director Peter Orszag called it “probably the most important piece that can be added” to the health care bill in the House, and the deal between the Blue Dog Coalition and House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) was the first positive development Democratic Party leaders could claim since the American Medical Association endorsed their bill last week.

But the arcane-to-the-outside development is a pint-sized breakthrough in an ocean of concern. It’s also a concession to one subgroup — the Blue Dogs — that’s likely to inflame others."

  26. http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-07-21/obamas-misguided-media-blitz/?cid=hp:mainpromo2

    "Obama's Misguided Media Blitz"

"Bill Kristol says it’s time for the Republicans to “go for the kill,” so forget any significant help from that quarter. Obama must now bring congressional Democrats together on a piece of legislation that can pass both houses.

If necessary, he should insist on ramming through a bill as long as it truly accomplishes the overall goals, using the reconciliation route in the Senate. That is certainly not the most desirable approach and the fallout could be painful. But putting off a health-care overhaul until 2010, an election year, in order to “study it further” would be far worse for the president. It could, indeed, be Barack Obama’s Waterloo (who knew that Senator Jim DeMint was such a historian?).

When the president approaches the podium tonight, some pundits will ponder whether he is “overexposed” when it comes to talking about health-care reform. It’s the wrong question. In truth, he has been “underexposed” when it comes to doing something about it. He must toughen up and herd his Democratic cats behind a set of specifics which he will have to outline, and insist they get the job done now."

"Not only are Republicans honing their opposition, but some Democrats in both chambers are voicing doubts about moving such complex and costly legislation too quickly.

Obama has scheduled a prime-time news conference Wednesday, expected to focus on health care. It's turning into a major test of his leadership......"

The president also has vowed that the legislation will not swell the deficit, although a senior administration official told reporters Tuesday that the pledge does not apply to an estimated $245 billion to increase fees for doctors serving Medicare patients over the next decade.

Not to bring up a point to someone like Hatch who operates in the delusional world that thinks repugs still rune the place, but wouldn't a public option put people - like say health insurance professionals - to work running that program? There will be MORE people covered by some form of health insurance after reform, so it stands to reason that there will be a need of rmore people to administer the programs, only not all of them will be in the private sector making insurance company salaries. And I can tell you without fear of contradiction, my friends who work in theinsurance world do very well thank you vvery much. I'm sure that there are lower level insurance professionals who don't make a lot of money, but I would venture to guess that on average, they do very well.

For the birthers to be right, the President's parents, grandparents, the newspaper, and the hospital to have all entered into a conspiracy to print a phony announcement of birth in 1959 because they already had a plot in place to make him president some day.

If the GOP gets any more limited to the fringe, I can actually see the Blue Dogs becoming the new "Conservative" party in the US either taking over the Republican name or becoming a major splinter group under a new name to start (as when the Republicans originally left the Whigs)

The thing to fear is that the smaller a group gets in power and influence, the more dangerous it can get. It doesn't matter whether you are talking about the old Anarchists or the Freepers.

  46. Does anyone here actually think we can have Congressional insurance for every American regardless of what individuals pay?

You know, only in the Bible does water become wine. It is simple laws of conservation of mass and energy. To do this would indeed transform America into something starkly different than what old Ben Franklin had in mind. We can kiss defense spending good bye and foreign aid as well.

And when this all becomes a complete mess Democrats will switch seats with the Republicans.

    Not a good tactical move.

The other option is to have gone back at some point after the campaign to replace every single copy of the microfiche of that day's issue of the Honolulu newspaper witha the birth announcement inserted.

Of course then they would have to believe that a "secret original copy" still resides in the Vatican

    Max

As I understand it, Members of Congress have a "cafeteria" of plans from which they can choose that best reflects their needs.

I wonder if anyone has put those plans offered on line that we the American public now pay for even when we don't have our own.

I still like calling the Public Option the Congressional Member plan.

  50. Again, re: the birthers, the only evidence thy have ever presented that I'm aware of is that they have not seen Obama's original birth certificate and don't accept the COLB, which some of the conspiracy theorists hvae "proved" was altered before it was posted on the net, and Obama's grammaw said she was present when he was born in Kenya (and they have not done their due diligence to confirm that with her). If there's something else, I either haven't seen it or have forgotten it. Now with the birth announcement, there is a piece of evidence aside from the COLB that establishes he was born in HI. Really, drop it. I did see a few minutes of Lou Dobbs last night, and I think he had a little bit of spittle in the corners of his mouth. Reminded me of his anti-Mexican rants.

I think Members of Congress are covered by the Federal Employees Health Benefit program, and all the various programs and benefits are posted on line at

  64. Solar, isn't it clear by now? I am OPEN MINDED while absolutely rejecting abject warmongering, Social Conservatism and poorly conceived bills that pander to the Left or Right (who once were rejected by Liberals and Conservatives).

I am glad you noticed. When I sound hawkish I am only putting the stick on the table. When I take aim at Obama it is to improve Obama's reasoning and prevent the obvious political musical chairs after a Democratic failure.

Don't read so much into what I say regarding bomb, bomb, bomb. You take away the affect on our enemies.

What is the point in blasting the lowly Republicans here? Are they listening? The debate now is between Liberals and please don't take it so personally.

Again, we both see the same promised land and we are trying to argue the means. I am more a Liberal hawk and you more the antiwarist.

Now Pakistan takes your position in regard to Afghanistan, but they are in bed with militants in the end because of India. We need both barrels on Kashmir and an end to this Indian/Pakistani rivalry.

    China must be engaged.

I don't like the healthcare bill because it is not well thought out. Yes, the more LEFT single pay universal system has been rejected by Obama. We need a more thought out plan. Unfortunately without dealing with energy and immigration, the engine of growth is left out of the equation as well as Jamie's comments on worker comp. I think STATES must have a larger roll in forumlating the solution and until a smart plan emerges I am just crying foul over the cost and affect.

One can only wonder why time in light of zero GOP weapons is not applied to a national and transparent debate. I also see not taking on Medicare/Medicaid and Social Security first a big mistake. This is all linked together, yes?

You see, if you're going to be grandiose, then go all the way baby.

    Also: http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?docid=news-000003172607

This is really stupid. For a billion or so, keep the damn facilities open at least. The Raptor is not even fully complete. There is a design that would make it the most lethal bomber in getting past all the Russian air defense systems they are planning to sell. Japan and others might help us by buying some themselves. We cannot continue to improve the ari craft or sell it abroad if the plants are closed. I billion is cheap considering healthcare, yes? This is just dumb.

The F-15s, F-18s and even the F-16s have been reworked for how many decades? Despite Gates wishful thinking, they are cracking up. I am reminded that when BUsh tried to shut down our best ground support air craft the A-10 warthog (which is pretty cheap), Democrats and Republicans rebelled. The reason of course is that the Air Force does not like their pilots flying so close to ground fire. Congress saved it and has retooled a much more lethal and well protected version.

Still, the F-22 is quiet, stealthy and those F-35s you talk about haven't seen combat either. This is a fight that should have been avoided and telling those 70,000 people to work on going to Mars is rather lame. First, I'm sure their skill set is quite different, Democrats will blast going to Mars as a waste of money and Raptors are strategic assets designed to deter adversaries. Going to Mars is likely to provoke the martians and create a new arms race.

See, I can do that too.

  68. Several here were surprised when I described how low the cost and how high the service in my medical care. You should know that I'm aware of a lot of differences in this are that make this possible.

    1. I am within 20 miles of at least six major hospitals, two of which are less than 5 miles from my home and I live in an area that attracts professional people..

2 All of facilities are teaching hospitals meaning that there is a larger group of trainees to use as staff support freeing the MDs, NPs, PAs, and RNs to concentrate on patient condition.

    3. There is a large testing facility that handles all outpatient diagnostics ... busy machines mean lower costs.

    4. Most specialists are in groups that have privileges at all the hospitals. I see one every six months (well I see his NP or PA and then him for five minutes. :-)

    5. Despite going for a monthly review clinic appointment, I almost never see a doctor. They review everything done by the NPs if any red flags go up, but actual face time is minimal simply because I don't need it. They are there if I get really, really sick.

    6. The clinics service virtually all low income patients whether Medicare, Medicaid, or State welfare. Lots of money coming in, but a large enough group of patients and healthy families to offset the costs.

IOW, I get really, really good medical care because of an extremely large insured group, a non profit system, and a whole host of services easily available.

How to create something similar for everyone in the US is the big problem.

  73. Global music: Inbar Bakal
On the melding of cultures and other groovy matters.

SAN FRANCISCO — During her upbringing in Israel, Inbar Bakal learned to love traditional music from Yemen, where her mother’s family had lived for generations.

But when Bakal embarked on a professional singing career eight years ago, she never considered incorporating the tunes she learned from her childhood. Pop music was Bakal’s initial focus, but here’s what happens when an Israeli crooner moves to Los Angeles and meets an Italian-American producer who specializes in stylish beats: She reconsiders her assumptions, then makes an album — in Hebrew, Yemeni Arabic and English — that has her listeners swaying to songs about biblical texts and women from the ancient Middle East.

“I took the old,” Bakal says, “and dressed it in a new way.”

“Song of Songs” was released this month, and its circuitous backstory includes Bakal’s start in music with an Israeli choir featured on the soundtrack to the movie “Schindler’s List”; her four years in the Israeli military, two of them in an anti-aircraft unit whose schedule left Bakal no time for singing; her decision to move to L.A. “with two suitcases and a demo”; her chance meeting with producer Carmen Rizzo, who previously perfected the work of Coldplay, Alanis Morisette, and Seal; and — of course — Bakal’s familial connection to Yemen.

A very good source that reports it...does not favor anyone..just does an excellent job of reporting

The truth about Obama's birth certificate.
    Summary
In June, the Obama campaign released a digitally scanned image of his birth certificate to quell speculative charges that he might not be a natural-born citizen. But the image prompted more blog-based skepticism about the document's authenticity. And recently, author Jerome Corsi, whose book attacks Obama, said in a TV interview that the birth certificate the campaign has is "fake."

We beg to differ. FactCheck.org staffers have now seen, touched, examined and photographed the original birth certificate. We conclude that it meets all of the requirements from the State Department for proving U.S. citizenship. Claims that the document lacks a raised seal or a signature are false. We have posted high-resolution photographs of the document as "supporting documents" to this article. Our conclusion: Obama was born in the U.S.A. just as he has always said.

Update, Nov. 1: The director of Hawaii’s Department of Health confirmed Oct. 31 that Obama was born in Honolulu.

  79. Blue Dog Mike Ross Made Millions Selling Prescription Drugs, Threatening to Kill Health Care Reform

This is probably just a coincidence.

A pharmacist, Ross founded Ross Pharmacy Inc. He sold the business in 2007, but according to his 2008 financial disclosure form, he and wife Holly still "own 100% of stock" in the company, which pays dividends over $100,000 a year. Holly Ross is also listed as employed by Super D Drug Acquisition Co.

And while Ross rakes it in, nearly 1 in 5 residents of Arkansas are without health insurance.

Guess who's his biggest sugar daddy?

The health industry was the #1 sector contributing to Ross last year. OpenSecrets.org lists $261,000 in contributions from individuals and PAC's from health care businesses.

  80. Flatus, thanks for your concern. If you knew Mrs. P like I know Mrs. P, you would know that dehydration in the face of vomiting and diahrrea is a huge concern with her because she will not drink anything unless I essentially force feed her. No chills - just a low grade fever that is now gonzo. I believe it must have been something she ate.

Max, from everything I've seen the F-22 is a wonderful fighter - and it is (assuming the Russians, Chinese, etc. don't have a better one on the boards, the most advanced fighter in the world. The only other fighter in its class is the F35. I believe we can agree on that. The issue is not building the best mousetrap. We have fought with relative parity in aircraft since even before Korea - with one or the other power holding a slight edge. But our tactical and strategic needs have changed, which is why Obama and Gates have said they want to pull the plug on addiditional F22 production beuyond what we already have, a decision that I understand the SecAF has agreed with, albeit reluctantly. The issue is how many of what fighter we need, based upon the threats we are facing, in the context of the defense budget we have. In their judgment (and unlike you, I do not presume to have knowledge superior to the SecDef and POTUS about the NS threats we face) the globalwaronterra defines our strategic and tactical force needs, and the prospect of war with Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, where the F22 would arguably serve a purpose that the F35 won't (and that is arguable) does not justify building the additional fighters at this time. And it would have been much harder to employ the F35s we do not yet have in combat, while employing the 187 F22s we do have would have been possible had the need arisen. I can only guess that the F22s were not deployed in the war context because their mission capabilities were not needed. I only pointed that out to illustrate that the 22s have not been needed in the wars we are actually fighting as opposed to those that we were fighting or saw as a possibility when they were put out to competition.

She is yet another of those who makes southerners look like idiots.

For what it's worth, my take on TennCare not working was A) it was underfunded and underthought to begin with and B) it should never have been open to anyone who hadn't been a resident of the state for at least five years or for employers to use as an excuse to fail to offer coverage to their employees. I was just going to work in a retail pharmacy when it began--and we had people moving in from all over creation and getting on TennCare because they were ineligible for aid in their home states, but nope, not here. And there were employers in this area who used the dodge they paid their employees sufficiently to allow them to buy their own coverage, rather than offer group coverage--but the bulk of said employees ended up on TennCare.

if I were really diffident about being a Tennessean, Rep. Blackburn would be enough to make me ashamed to be one. However, danged if I let her.

This is what is going on in Iran. Ahmadinejad is still refusing to fire his VP in defiance of the Supreme Leader. Russia wants those Israeli drones, but the price is Russia not giving Iran their advanced missile defense.

Perhaps Ahmadinejad's surpising move is a play inspired by the Russians which fragments the present stalemate between the new generation and the old guard supported by the protesters and puts off a possible Israeli strike while all sides are forced to rethink.

    Extremely interesting.

quoting the Heritage Foundation can get you labelled as a conservative pretty quickly, as can this kind of description - "A former liberal Democrat, Bell has not been on the conservative side of the aisle for very long. He voted for Clinton/Gore in 1992. Abandoning the convictions that he had held and defended through adolescence and into adulthood was not easy. Sincere soul-searching and a commitment to distinguish fact from fiction compelled him to accept that liberal ideology was bankrupt." Correct me if I'm wrong, but that is the conservative editorial board of the Frontiers of Freedom organization painting him as a conservative. And Frontiers of Freedom is an uberconservative org.

Yesterday, maxtrue accused Democrats yet again of vilifying g. w. bush more than they vilify saddam hussein. Last night, in response, I issued a challenge.

67 M!LL!ON Dems elected President Obama. 1/1,000,000th of that number is 67. If maxtrue can correctly name 67 Dems (1 in a million) who vilify bush more than saddam hussein, then maxtrue may some a slender shred of integrity.

  121. OK, lessee, GW Bush is alive (Saddam is dead), lives here (Saddam lived in Iraq), lied to us about Saddam Hussein (Saddam jus tcalled us names and took our money and arms), screwed up OUR country (Saddam provided one means for him to do that) , then walked away leaving one hell of a mess (Saddam was left to hang on his own). Hmm, why would we vilify GWB instead of a dead dictator? I wonder. That said, I'm not sure I vilify GWB more than SH, OK, I do because he Fed up my country worse than Saddam (who was even worse in his own country than GWB was here)did. So Max gets 1 on his way to 67 -IF AND ONLY IF vilifying GWB more often than vilifying Saddam counts as vilifying him more. Now if you ask me who screwed up his country more and cared about his countrymen less - that woudl be Saddam, so if that's the measure, Max can look elsewhere for that first of 67.

part of the way that Secretary of Defense Robert Gates recently defended his decision to stop production of the F-22 Raptor, the U.S. Air Force’s giant boondoggle of a fighter jet. “Consider,” the secretary of defense said,

“that by 2020, the United States is projected to have nearly 2,500 manned combat aircraft of all kinds. Of those, nearly 1,100 will be the most advanced fifth generation F-35s and F-22s. China, by contrast, is projected to have no fifth generation aircraft by 2020. And by 2025, the gap only widens. The U.S. will have approximately 1,700 of the most advanced fifth generation fighters versus a handful of comparable aircraft for the Chinese. … Only in the parallel universe that is Washington, D.C., would that be considered ‘gutting’ defense.”

  125. NP, X should plead insanity. Despite the abundant evidence I favored removing Saddam because of the animal and threat he was to the world and his people; X would have the jury believe I have denounced "Liberals" more than I have Saddam who had been long removed before I had ever posted a comment at Trail.

Contrary to the false claim X would have reasonable people believe, it was a wing now in the Democratic Party that assailed Bush and the Republicans more than Saddam. It was the loud peanut gallery of the Democrats that cried more about US caused collateral damage in removing Saddam and the Taliban than Liberals often decried the abuse of people in Iraq under Saddam or in Iran under a illegitimate regime.

Dear jury, X would have you invert reality. While he would likely deny that some Democrats have compared Bush to Hitler and Cheney to the anti-Christ, calling General Patraeus an American who betrayed America and supporting the terror apologist antiwar creed about the NAZI Israelis and mad neocons out to steal the world’s oil, he suggests in a rather illogical and unsupported way, that I prefer (by acts of denunciation) Saddam to Liberals.

I caution the jury that this is a man who once was a Republican. I remind the jury what X's own description of the GOP is (and to be honest it is much worse than anything X has ever said about that blood sucker Saddam). How do we know X is still not suffer from the dementia that lead him originally to the ranks of those he so despises now? How do we know his conversion to Liberalism is real beyond the endless partisan denunciations he posts here on the Trail?

If the claim is shit, you must acquit.

And if you have reasonable doubts about X’s mental state, I would then ask the court for a court appointed psychiatrist to probe into the state of mind of X. Perhaps we could use the posted remarks as a guide

  134. You are great at promoting your supportive threads and ignoring the links I supply you which have many facts. A relic of the cold war? Is that why the new 5th generation Russian fighter is practically a copy of the Rator is reports can be nelieved? Is that why Russian defensive systems they sell to our adversaries are Cold War relics too? Gates floated a report from the military that has proven to be false to get his win. He hasn't even responded to claims coming from experts about 5th generations aricraft coming our way and real countermeasures for and fatigue problems with the bulk of our fighters.

Of course you pass on the logic I used which would be to keep production lines open for the reasons stated. You even reject the option for our allies to make purchases which Congress holds up. And to top off critical Democratic thinking; Murtha laments over the end to the Raptors and apologizes for continuing a more expensive outlay to keep the very helicopter Obama promised McCain he would not take, alive and well. No Raptors, yes a new Presidential helicopter.

Don't cry that this will make news. And the promise? By the way, if this is denuciation, then what is far debate? And how the hell is this anything like talking about Saddam X-man?

1.7 billion to keep Raptors going. You read the numbers on the air force and missile defense. And of course this will not go away though Democrats would like to just call everyone opposing such cuts as conservatives, or warmongers.

When it comes to doubling our deficits in short order and leading us to trillion dollar interests payment every year, Democrats often have a zillion justifications. when it comes to less than 3.8 of GDP. Hell, they go bananas.

    Prosecution's Summation

The Defendant did not offer a defence, but rather attempted to change the topic, change the record, and change the name of the accused.

    Paragraph I
sentence 1 : Prosecution objects to a. Defendant hurling personal abuse, b. the irrelevant and immaterial remark.
sentence 2 : Defendant contends he is not guilty, but concedes that the evidence is exactly as the Prosecution contends, which undermines the assertion.

    Paragraph II
sentence 1 : Prosecution objects to Defendant's claim that it was not "the Democrats" as can be clearly seen in the evidence, but a "wing now in the Democratic Party that assailed bush and republicans more than hussein". This is a clear attempt to change the record and ignore tha actual evidence before the court.

sentence 2 : Prosecution object to attempt at introducing "peanut gallery" which is not in record. The Defendant is charged with making false statements about the Democrats, not some peanut gallery.

    Paragraph III
sentence 2 : aThe Prosecution objects to the Defendant's attempt to make it seem as if he did not accuse ALL Democrats, but only "some Democrats", b. The Prosecution stipulates that a few Democrats compared bush, cheney, and Patraeus to examples from historyof murderous tyrants. c. The Prosecution objects to the Defendant's attempt to put the Prosecution on trial, by putting words in the prosecutor's mouth that the prosecutor never said. d. the sentence is irrelevant and immaterial to the charge.

    Paragraph IV
sentence 1 : Stipulated. The Prosecutor has never hidden the fact that he was once a republican.
sentence 2 : The Prosecution objects. a. Let the record show that the Prosecutor has on several occasions referred to saddam hussein as "a genocidal maniac". b. The claim is irrelevant and immaterial. The Prosecutor is not the one on trial.
sentence 3 : The Prosecution objects to the "Well Poisoning" fallacy; requests it be stricken.
sentence 4 : Irrelevant, immaterial, and frankly, daffy.

Paragraph V : The Prosecution requests His Honor to warn the Defendant about vulgar diction.

    Paragraph VI
sentence 1 : Irrelevant and immaterial to the charge. The Prosecutor's sanity is not at issue in this case, but rather the honesty of the Defendant.

Your Honor, seeing no further attempt at defense, I move for a summary judgement, and the immediate dismissal of the jury. We have all have suffered enough.

  143. OK - if the public "option" is the nightmare of inefficiency that the GOP envisions - then it will be unpopular and the private insurance industry will do just fine.

    It is an "option."

Even if people are required to get insurance - they will still have the ability to choose between public and private.

"When it comes to doubling our deficits in short order and leading us to trillion dollar interests payment every year, Democrats often have a zillion justifications. when it comes to less than 3.8 of GDP. Hell, they go bananas.'

    Hi Max
The only thing about me that's conservative is my spending my hard earned money..I think your being really tough on Democrats as far spending goes..Look what the Democrats inherited from Bush/Cheney.I hate all the spending but what would you have wanted the President to do turn his back on the people in need..I do wish more of the stimulus package was for infrastructure and proven job creating.I wish Bush had not sent me $300 instead he should have built a bridge...I'm glad the President cut the fighter plane and I wish he would cut more from the defense budget and move this country away from being the world's policeman....Polly Anna maybe....

  146. "Independents have different views on issues. No one could put together a "party platform" for a true Independent Party. We vary issue to issue."

I don't necessarily agree. First Democrats and Democrats vary issue to issue - same with the GOP.

I also think there is broad consensus on a lot of the major issues. Much more than can be seen through all of the partisan bickering...

Democrats and Republicans are more into power than they are into policy.

  148. I do realize that power is a pre-requisite to enacting policy. And even an Independant politicians would be suceptible to placing politics over principle.

  149. Posted by: maxtrue | July 22, 2009 4:55 PM : "Don't cry that this will make news. And the promise? By the way, if this is denuciation, then what is far debate? And how the hell is this anything like talking about Saddam X-man?"

    A. Wtf are you babbling about now, maxtrue ? Part of the difficulty you have with people may be your failure to write clearly, rather than their lack of comprehension.

    B. What the hell is wrong with commenting on what Mr. John Doe writes, rather than making up a bunch of bullshit, and then insuinuating that John Doe wrote it or thinks it ? You do that several times a day, and occasionally several times in a single post.

    C. And, what the hell are all the (often unreferenced) rhetorical questions about ? They squirt out of your posts three or four at a crack like verbal diarrhea. God only knows what you're getting at half the time. You spew rhetorical questions and they are almost always followed by the accusation or insinuation that someone in particular has an opinion that they in fact never expressed. This is not a matter of literary style, these are attacks on other TMers.

    D. Just give up the pretense of being anything but a neo-con, and things will go much better for you. 50% of my gripes have to do with your pose as a non-ideological moderate. You're no more moderate than Anon-Paranoid, GORDO, or me. Just get honest, for cripes sakes. There's no harm in the truth.

    E. You mentioned wine turning into water, and said it was in the Bible. Previously, you've said you're a Jew. The Jewish Bible doesn't mention water into wine. I don't think a real Jew would say a passage is in the Bible, unless it was in her/his Bible. I consulted with a pretty deevout one about this, and he said he tends to agree with me, unless the person in question claims to be a "Messianic Jew", i.e. a Christian. Then I remembered that you were posting here on Passover. So, maxtrue, to top it all off, aren't you really some sort of a Zionist Christian, just pretending to be a Jew ?

UnitedHealth Group 2Q profit more than doubles
    (AP) July 21, 2009

MINNEAPOLIS — Health insurer UnitedHealth Group Inc. said Tuesday that its second-quarter profit more than doubled as the prior-year period was weighed down by large lawsuit settlements and thinner margins in its health care services business.

The largest commercial health insurer by revenue also raised the low end of its full-year earnings forecast.

The news may bode well for the sector, as UnitedHealth Group is the first large health insurer to report quarterly earnings, and analysts see its performance as a bellwether for the industry.

UnitedHealth Group earned $859 million, or 73 cents per share, for the period ended June 30. That's up from $337 million, or 27 cents per share, a year earlier.

The year-ago period's results included settlements in two class action lawsuits related to UnitedHealth's former stock option granting practices that resulted in a pretax charge of $922 million, or 47 cents per share, for the quarter. Adjusted profit for the prior-year period was 67 cents per share.

Revenue rose 7 percent to $21.66 billion from $20.27 billion on increased premiums, which grew partly due to price increases. Services and products revenue also improved.

Israel army destroys house inside Gaza: witnesses

    (AFP) – 1 day ago

GAZA CITY — The Israeli army carried out a cross-border raid near Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip on Tuesday, demolishing a three-storey house and some farm buildings, Palestinians witnesses said.

Army forces backed up by tanks penetrated 500 metres (550 yards) inside Palestinian territory and used a bulldozer to knock down the house, the witnesses said. They made no mention of any Palestinian casualties.

An army spokeswoman said that an Israeli unit had responded to fire against Israeli civilians working on the border fence. She said the troops had themselves come under fire and had retaliated without sustaining any casualties.

Also on Tuesday, Israel returned the body of a 22 year-old Palestinian wounded on Sunday evening near the border between Israel and the Palestinian enclave and who died in an Israeli hospital, a Palestinian medic said.

A military spokesman said on Sunday that soldiers shot at the man when he ignored warning shots as he approached the Nahal Oz crossing point. He was then taken to an Israeli hospital.

  155. Hello Solarman
What's Up? I have been working today in the heat..Oh that last deck i cleaned(5 of 5 decks) was a bitch. Its right on the Intercoastal waterway and the salt is something else..It's a big 10 bedroom house complete with an outdoor kitchen and ocean and intercoastal views..My client Jeff is a great guy but his business has went away and he's selling everything..Jeff is a site developer.I listened to him and Grace(both Republicans) go on and on about the President today and how he's ruining this country..I mean they get so worked up.. The things they were saying about Obama had no basis in fact..I tried to refute statements like "Obama hates this country and is trying to destroy it" but how do you convince people there being irrational? I suppose I should consider myself lucky that there not birthers,HA i asked them and they agreed Obama's a citizen...

  156. Hey Tony,

Glad to hear from you.....don't even try to make an opposing team member to not take pot shots at Pres. Obama.......that is in the play book....and the play book of the D's are just a diff. color--blue...I would rather have any D over an R in the white house...but basically they are the same to me......we didn't get this far (in the ditch) with out them working to get us here...they just took turns doing it their way.

I still believe that a flat tax,,,and a flat sales tax will take care of several problem...all at the same time.....no IRS to begin with....that alone should give us the H. C. ( or a very good start towards it) that everone is talking about......talk.....talk....talk. Let see what comes out....when the smoke clears.

Up to 3 miles every other day..and the weight training ...so far no complaints from my back. Don't piss them off ....those flat earthers might take the work away from you??? thanks pal

    Solar,

The Israelis are working on an agreed upon border fence and the Palestinians are shooting at them from a building on the Palestinian side? Knocking down the building sounds like a pretty non violent response to a violent act.

I agree with your statement...but don't agree that-that is the truth of it...but if they did, they should have left the farm houses standing. That is what gives me doubt..just saying.

Jamie, You know we are starting to get used to the Idea of perpetual war-wars, even. I don't see an end to them..the younger generations = war, they will except it as the norm...if we don't get out of the others???

Amazing isn't it, Tony? I am now getting such BS emails that I'm going to have to block people I've known for years or my head will explode. I simply do NOT understand how people can blame current problems on Obama! This has been a long time coming. Clinton damn near turned it around...then George Bush just slammed us into the ground again.
