Solar:
"And the reality is this: Israel has been a burden. not always a benefit to the U.S. by giving them our unconditional support."
That is what family is all about. And as Obama said - "We have an unbreakable bond with Israel,"
I also do not think it is in our national security interests to show any weakness on our support for Israel's security (even though we may voice disagreements with specific policies we see as destructive).
Any daylight - or any sign of backing down - will only encourage the hard-line, nationalistic (and xenophonic and paranoid) leaders in the Middle East. It is in those leaders interests to paint Israel-US as the enemy.
Elections matter.

I'm not a fan of Palins but Letterman was way over the line and not funny. I think going after a politician's teenage or younger kids is off limits. If they are adult children, maybe.
Letterman just sounded like a dirty old man. And using the term slutty was also over the line. What a jerk!

"burden" or not, I'll stick with Israel. Arabs screwed up with they backed Hitler. They have repeatedly attacked Israel without cause and then whine when they get whipped.
When they want to join the 21st Century as Egypt has done and work to create two states existing peacefully, fine. Until then (expletive)

I think Letterman was way over the top, and Palin is momma protecting a child.
Told ya so Jamie.
Jamie, Arabs have pulled our feet out of the fire many times by keeping oil low. Saud'i Arabia alone could have ruined our economy. LIbya has some of the sweetest crude in the oil. Jordan is one of our best friends in the area. To hold a grudge because of WWII is just silly. They have also worked hard to help keep us safe from more Al Queda attacks.
Solar, Israel provides a lot of research and bleeding edge technologies. We also had to buy bullets from them when we ran out in Iraq.
Both sides have extremely corrupt governments, are world leaders in the slave trade, and end up taking a lot of money from the US.
As I've said before, at the end of the day people are people. No matter how you label them.

I'm not a Fox News Fan. Certainly Israel has injured Palestinians over the years, but to my knowledge no Israeli has ever strolled into a hotel or shopping area and sent pieces of Palestinaian all over the streets.
All they have ever asked is that the surrounding countries stay on their side of the agreed upon line and not lob rockets in. Any territory they have taken is because of attacks on them and they have given most of that back.
The nation of Israel has a right to secure borders. Besides at the current birthrates, Arabs and Palestinians will outnumber Jews in Israel in a couple of decades anyway.

No Jamie,
They've stoned Palestinians, shot Palestinian children, tried to starve them to death, refused them food and healthcare, refused to let them leave the country on scholarships, shut off power and water, bulldozed their traditional homes, separated families, stopped them from going to school, dropped white phosphorous and cluster bombs on them, bulldozed their crops, destroyed apartment buildings with missiles, but never set off a suicide bomb in their midst. Of course, they have a US paid for military, Palestinians have rocks and guns, occasionally explosives.
I have no special sympathies for the surrounding Arab countries. I do not believe the Israelis are treating the Palestinians justly, and I have a lot of company, as in past presidents.
There are indications that attitudes are changing in the area, let's hope this time Obama has the support to carry through with a plan.

Wow.
So much happening in one day.
I have noticed Letterman becoming much more open
about himelf and his life, and making light sexual banter since he got married. Maybe the dirty old man hitch in his gallop is working its way out.
He used to be rather prudish and I was glad to see that going away, but the stuff re Palin is ridiculous. I hope he gets some self-control back. Actually, that may be where the remarks came from, since he has shown that prudishness often. I suspect he is really disgusted with Palin's talk and what has happened with her family, more disgusted than most people. He is a mid-westerner.
How can you tell what is slutty these days - what a waste of time to even consider that,,, a leftover word from his teen years...how stupid. He wasn't funny at all, but I think a lot of jokes aren't funny when they're based on rumors of people.
Carol, I'm with you here cuz I don't there was any comment to make at all, but I'm not outraged. I see why you are, but it just isn't hitting me that way. I'm afraid if she goes on Lettermen, while she would look like a good sport, it would be very uncomfortable and create more talk re Bristol.. i wish the family would lie low for a while.
Actually, I HATE HATE HATE the word knocked-up! I think that upsets me more than anything else. It denigrates the female and no one else, and in fact, it's a notch in a guy's belt when it should be a notch somewhere else, and now it's becoming a household word!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don-Jamie. If we could only get some of these kind of stories to all both of the Countries. Like I said. The civilians don't want this conflict to go on. The Power hungy people on both side do.
A nice story to end for tonight.
In West Bank, Palestinians rescue Israeli occupiers
Palestinian youths help an Israeli woman and her infant out of an overturned vehicle.
Palestinian villagers have rescued an Israeli settler woman in the West Bank after she got trapped in a car along with her infant child.
The incident took place on Tuesday when a car racing at high speed lost control on a main road in the town of Tiqua, southeast of Bethlehem, and rolled over.
"The car flipped three times along the center of the road…The guys at the site immediately rushed in that direction and started rescuing the passengers," Palestinian citizen, Ahmad Allen, told Ma'an news agency.
They took out the four-month infant and his mother, who was in a shock, after breaking the window and immediately called an Israeli ambulance to transfer the wounded to the hospital.
The men said "our human feelings were much bigger at that moment than the feelings of enmity and hatred, which Israeli settlers provoke," stressing the Palestinians did not hesitate to offer help.
Israeli media covered the incident in the West Bank town of Tiqua where the Israelis have illegally annexed Palestinian land to erect Jewish settlements.
The Israeli army has started installing an iron wall along the main road in the center of the Palestinian village to secure Israeli settlers who frequently clash with the Palestinians.

I've said it before, but the subject keeps cropping up so I have to say it again to soothe my conscience. In my opinon, the entire world is riddled with anti -semitism, as today's episode show. For that reason, I'll back Israel.
It isn't a level playing field and people of all groups have killed people unfairly. Until the arab countries take some responsibility, they're on the wrong side.
They have kiiled hundreds of thousand of their own people, for cryin' out loud, just in the last three decades. They have turned their backs on millions of their own people. Until they can show they are capable of thinking in 21st century terms, or even 20th century terms, they are on the wrong side. They are thinking in 13th and 14th century terms, and they don't work.
By the same token, I heartily believe that idiot spouting sanctions against us is painfully funny. Whom does he expect to care about his sanctions? The rest of the world would take advantage of them hurting us, gaining Israel nothing, and we are basically Israel's only true friend, with England a sidekick. Once they dump us, they're bird feed. Just sayin...

If Palin would have tried to hide her pregnant unwed daughter that wouldn't have looked good either. The media would have uncovered that and had a heyday with it.
She was damned if she did and damned if she didn't. Maybe since she had this little family crisis, she should have just given up any political aspirations she had like Obama did because of some of the not so pleasant things in his family background? Frankly, I think Letterman's better days are behind him. Far more interesting was Colbert's show from Iraq. It was unique. As soldiers laughed and the Prime Minister of Iraq enaged the viewers there and here with the warmest thanks he had for our sacrifice, Colbert got straight answers to his questions and unwaivoring resolve.
The bitterness in this next link is understandable in light of Colbert's show. I suggest looking at it if only to fathom some rational reasons for partisan bitterness. Not all GOP anger is infantile. To sum it up: THE WAR IS LOST said Reid and Pelosi. Boy, that seems like decades ago.....ha FACT: Obama shared their rejection of a surge and that peace comes AFTER we leave choas, not before. Before Obama took office, he refused to accept the significance that a Democratic Iraq will create and he talked little about the potential significance of Democracy in Iraq. History will speak kindly of McCain and Patreous, depending on whether Obama blows it. How media will spin the "legacy" after the PRIME struggle had been already won for Obama to lose, creates a deep anger among many. Can abyone here understand why?
On today's central front, Obama put together a rather unique team for Afghanistan. The NYT reports on this breaking news and the plan now is rather aggressive and being handled by our best military minds. He put his military dream team on a plane and off they went to launch a full court Press on the Taliban, Poppies, Crime and of course this;
http://www.longwarjournal.org/archives/2009/06/us_strike_kills_iran.php
That was Obama's latest swipe at the Mullahs after lecturing Ahmadinejad from Buchewald.
It was a tough week for Ahmadinejad as Obama first touched down in his back court in Cairo and offered a discourse that Ahmadie is not capble of. Of course the President had read those daily briefings. Hizb'Allah had been caught with no clothes on plotting and assasinating. Quds was blown out of the Sudan desert by ISraeli drones. Hamas make complete fools out of themselves gaving failing first in war, then coups and even actually hitting the Egyptians they fired their first missile at.
And then the embarrasing Ahmadinejad/Moousavi Show on Iranian TV. Quite remarkable. No matter who wins there, the Iranian people now know from the bitter public debate between the candidates, inflation is 25%, billions are missing from the Treasury, corruption rules, the world hates Iran, that Iran sent terrorists to Saudi Arabia years ago and killed relations, thugs rule the country, the reformer was part of the murdering of thousands of dissidents and also called for Israel's destruction.
I feel for Iranians......... Ahmadie would last 2 minutes in debate with Clinton, Obama or even Colbert. In short, Obama v Mullahs might be a far more interesting fight than the Palin Letterman Show, which will inevitably end up a rating bonaza when she visits him for his apology on air.......even then, heh.......
GO NOT AHMADINEJAD!!!!!!!!!
Pothole ahead in Iraq?
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/10/world/middleeast/10iraq.html?ref=world
I think Obama might do what Bush would do here. Premature departure now would threaten the very legacy CNN and Newsweek would love to pin on Obama. Sadr is another proxy the Mullahs would love to use, but with US forces there, the militant doesn't have the stomach for another go round. AQ is also on the uptick hopeing start ethnic conflict again.

Carol, I don't think it was smart of her to bring her family into it, and doing so was what started this whole thing. If she had kept her family out of it, Bristol would had some notice, but it would have basically have been pretty quiet.
Heck, the Bush girls got noticed only when they misbehaved publically. It's become such a no-no to pick on kids, and I like that. have become so used to the media's crossing the line, and so I was truly surprised and repulsed by Palin's big and constant parade of her family. She brought everything into the open and I wondered how she could be so confident they would act as she wanted them to. Levi Johnson had a teen-aged sneer on his face when he was in the audience, and I figured he was a very weak link.
Nonetheless, the more I think re about it, I'm more and more angry at Letterman for bringing the whole subject up again. She had done nothing to cause that, and now she's a valid victim, and we are going to hear about her for another week or so. He should leave her alone. They all should.

So i am getting my nightly fill of Fox and I think it is high time the left starts hitting back on healthcare.
Thanks to the man-child Franky Boy Luntz - all i hear from the right are the catchphrases of government rationing and sowing the seeds that Obama's plan will result in less healthcare as opposed to more.
(And it is all negative and tied into the overspending meme - which is effective - and there are no legitimate alternatives being proposed that the GOP could live with.)
Now I watched both sides debate in the run up to the election. And there was consensus that we needed healthcare reform. And that came from the electorate and the politicians could not ignore it.
There was also consensus - on both sides - that we need to:
1. Bring down costs
2. Increase access
So the debate should focus on ideas to acheive these ends - not all of the reasons why nothing should be done.
Also - we shouldn't think of all our problems in isolation.
Unemployment is on the rise. So lets encourage kids to join the healthcare industry with scholarships, etc. Can't ship those jobs overseas!
We should also eliminate the stigma that guys should not be nurses.
We should also increase the numbers of RNs and Physician assistants. They play a vital role in preventative care. They can also do much of the same work that doctors can do - but at much lower hourly rates. (They also don't keep u waiting as long ; )
Anyways, peeps - we can't lose control of this debate (again).

I wrote a little thank - you note , and an accounting of just how much you folks helped me. My small experiment in small fund raising worked, and it happened because I bunch of friends I'll never see made it happen.
Pretty amazing, melts my old cynical heart.

Welding goggles........hmmm.........I will look amongst my souvenirs for such as that left over from me old pop who used to say he knew 27 kinds of welding......I'm a woodguy and don't have a clue what that means, but he liked to say it in latter days as the alzheimers took hold.............

Not from me. If I was her father. Letterman would have a busted jaw.! Just like any other goof that said that about my daughter. Patsi is going to be pissed.
All women should be. But they won't. If R. L. said some stupid junk about the Obama girls-doesn't have to be about sex. The whole world would be at a stand still. Palin is going to get some traction out of this. Night.
I still feel the same way. but I will say this. They all deserve what Letterman ( I don't like what he said) or Leno or any of the late night clowns say. I thought about it. They go on his show-thereby giving him the power to do so. Too late now.
There is one thing that I would do to get even. I would find out about their private lives. Then hire some comedian to talk about them. That is Letterman. Leno or others. Don't get mad. Get even.
Pres. Clinton is-has been the butt of J. Leno for years. Pres. Clinton just ignores him. Hillary did go on his show. At that time I said that she should not have. Too bad they all feel like they should. It is their faults!
