GOP Hypocrisy on Parade

| | Comments (302)

Ah, if hypocrisy were a killer virus, we'd all be dead. But even by Washington standards the GOP is on a roll.

Nevada Sen. John Ensign, always first in line to call for the resignation of scandalous colleagues, reveals his own sexual affair with a staffer and only relinquishes a relatively meaningless Republican Party leadership position. Presumably, he will continue to pursue his presidential ambitions.

What happened to GOP claims that voting against Iraq war funding is nothing short of unpatriotic? Only five House Republicans voted in favor of yesterday's measure to provide $106 billion in funding for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

The GOP health reform plan is out. All four pages of it. The outline claims it would put the nation on a path to universal health insurance by reforming Medicaid and the State Children's Health Insurance Program. Frankly, it makes no sense.

C'mon GOPers, even George W. Bush could do better than this.

  1. I thought hypocrisy was one of the platforms in the Republican party, no? They've used it forever and they are really good at it. Don't tell me it's not part of their overall plan.

I haven't seen the 4 page plan for health care reform but I bet it is easier to read through. And maybe making George Bush look good by comparison is also part of the plan. I'm sure he appreciates that.

And don't mess with the word "lurk". I like that word. Listening is a boring word. What sounds better, to listen at work or to lurk at work. It's got that nice ring to it. A little on the naughty side.

I was busy last night with all my chores. Summer!. It's a hard time of year. Had to snap beans, blanch beans, put up beans, vacuum pool, wash clothes, water and fertilize the plants.......it's hard to find time to go to work.

I just bet you retired people think, how in the hell did I ever do all this when I had a job? But time is relative. You seem to have just enough of it to do what needs to be done. It's a weird phenomena.

  4. I'd better be careful with putting up these vegetables because the chance of us having another hurricane seems to be directly proportional to the amount of food I've stuffed in my freezers.

I don't know what it is about food but I must have been really hungry in one of my last lives. Looking in my frig and cabinets, you'd think I had a family of ten to cook for.

And I just love grocery shopping. I am ready for any disaster at least one where you need food. But if there was no refrigeration we'd only eat good for a couple of days. Ya'll come over if something bad happens. I'll stuff you up before we beam up.

  8. some tho'ts to ponder from wiki re hypocrisy:
"...some people genuinely fail to recognize that they have character faults that they condemn in others. This is called psychological projection. This is self-deception rather than deliberate deception of other people. In other words, "psychological hypocrisy" is usually interpreted by psychological theorists to be an unconscious defense mechanism rather than a conscious act of deception, as in the more classic connotation of hypocrisy."
    and
"It is a common fallacy (see List of fallacies) to accuse someone of being a hypocrite in an attempt to invalidate their argument. This can be known as an ad hominem attack. In other words, just because someone is a hypocrite, that does not make them wrong."
    and
"....it may also corrode the well-being of those people who are continually forced to make use of it.[5] As Boris Pasternak has Yurii say in Doctor Zhivago, "Your health is bound to be affected if, day after day, you say the opposite of what you feel, if you grovel before what you dislike... Our nervous system isn't just fiction, it's part of our physical body, and it can't be forever violated with impunity."

  13. today would be a good day to thoroughly dissect "hypocrisy".

    Hypocrite

There are two Greek words used to translate the word hypocrite or a form of it in the New Testament.

hupokrisis ), an actor under an assumed character (stage-actor) or dissembler (Webster--to conceal under a false appearance; disguise; to pretend).

hupokrites , acting under a feigned part; deceit.

The following is taken from Wycliffe Bible Dictionary (Editors--Charles F. Pfeiffer, Howard Vos, John Rea), and is a contribution by J. Harold Greenlee, Th.D., Missionary, OMS International and Allan R. Killen, Th.D., Professor of Contemporary Theology, Reformed. Theological Seminary, Jackson, Miss.

HYPOCRISY, HYPOCRITE. In the context of Gr. Drama the term hypocrite was applied to an actor on the theater stage. Since an actor pretends to be someone other than himself, hypocrites was applied metaphorically to a person who acts a part in real life, pretending to be better than he actually is, one who simulates goodness. In secular Gr. Literature, therefore, hypocrites may be either neutral or undesirable. In the NT, however, it is always undesirable, signifying one who works a deception by feigned piety.

This concept of pretended goodness was foreign to OT thought. The Heb. Root h-n-p, translated hypocrisy or hypocrite in the KJV, was translated in the LXX [Septuagint--Greek translation of the Old Testament] by anomos, lawless, criminal, or godless, parallel to poneros, an evil doer (Isa 9:17); and by asebes, godless, irreverent (Isa 33:14).

In the book of Job it is clear that the hanep is one radically opposed to God, one who forgets God (Job 8:13; 15:34-35; 20:5; 27:8). The verb hanep means to pollute or corrupt (cf. Num 35:33; Ps 106:38; Isa 24:5; Jer 3:1). Theodotion's translation of Job, later incorporated into the LXX, rendered Heb. hanep as hypocrites in two verses (Job 34:30; 36:13). Thus it seems that Greek-speaking Jews were employing hypokrisis in another sense in addition to its metaphorical meaning of feigning to be what one is not.

I don't know if is properly termed 'hypocrisy,' but all those freedom loving Republicans who are calling for Obama to show strong support of the Iranian demonstrators would be exactly the same cabal who would condemn him if it led to an authoritarian crack-down in which hundreds of demonstrators were killed and injured, and about which we could do nothing.

The memory of Hungary 1956 should be a lesson. Words of encouragement during popular uprisings against authoritarian regimes must be weighed very carefully so as to not make matters worse.

I admired how you defended Obama during the primaries. But the campaign is over.... it's time for governing. Change comes from the bottom up. We the people must demand it. We must hold our elected officials responsible to do what they say they're going to do even if we think they're just BSing us.

  43. In case some of you wonder why I get so upset with the right wing activists, it is because of ssomething that just happened. I have one friend of many years who while of similar age, just isn't as sharp as she once was. Somehow, her email has gotten targeted by these types who send around the emails telling people to panic because the Democrats are about to destroy their lives. The latest one started:

    --------------
Get ready! We are doomed if this gets thru!
A must read for all. Remember you youngsters out there, this is your parents being targeted here.
    HEALTH RATIONING FOR SENIORS
    ----------------------

I've told her to ignore any email loaded with exclamation points, all caps or changing colors, but they still upset her and it is cruel. This one went on to pillory Senator Daschle because he remarked that there would need to be changes in Medicare but the email blamed it on the stimulus plan not anything to do with healthcare negotiations. It would have taken me hours to untangle all the lies, misstatements, errors and quote context.

If I ever get my hands on someone who creates this crap rather than just circulating it, I swear their fingers are going to resemble bottom of the bag potato chips.

    Patd,
I just loved the paragraphs you picked out for your post on hypocrisy. I especially like that it said psychological projection ("..people genuinely fail to recognize that they have character faults that they condemn in others) is also psychologial hypocrisy. I know I've caught myself doing though ('caught' because I was probably have a rare moment of clarity) and I often witness it in others. I'd forgotten that projection is no more than a defense mechanism. Seems more forgivable, when we think of it that way. You see it a lot in those (Politicians, for instance) that put themselves to far above others, condemning in others what they themselves do in private. I always assumed they were lying, but maybe some of it is self-deception.... hard to say (J. Edwards comes to mind).

Now this quote right here jumped out at me too: "It is a common fallacy .... to accuse someone of being a hypocrite in an attempt to invalidate their argument. This can be known as an ad hominem attack." Ad hominem is an expression I never used until Craig pointed it out to us. But, as your post pointed out, being a hypocrite does not make them wrong.

Nice post Pat. Went beautifully with Craigs' topic today.

  56. Some thoughts:

The whole thing with Sen. Ensign having let the ol' lovesnake (oops--paging Dr. Freud) escape from captivity reminds me of this song, even though A) Mrs. E is other than the conventional statement staying in the background and B) DC is not their hometown.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79WNoVyZ1fE

I think it was originally a Stanley Brothers song, and would have preferred Delia Bell's version, but one makes use of what's available.

Just rewrite the lyrics a bit and it works:

Now there are no secrets (much) in this big ol' DC town
Everyone knows everyone for miles and miles around. . .

Okay, having dug the hole, will add before pulling the dirt in over myself. . .

The GOP doesn't like this war spending bill because either A) it wasn't their idea or B) with GWB out of office it isn't THEIR war anymore.

As for the four page healthcare plan, I've written four page POEMS with more substance.

Okay, Craig, I'll be good now. Everybody have a good day!:)

A lot of people like to follow Barbaro's brothers. Lentenor is the one that looks most like him so far, but no idea if he has the phenominal talent. All the Ville Rouge/Dynaformer foals will probably do very well simply because of their breeding lines, but you don't often get a horse as spectacular as Barbaro. That is what really broke people's hearts.

The good that has come out of it in veterinary science, breeding programs, and track conditions have been wonderful, but it was such a high price to pay for the advancements.

  58. Hypocrisy on parade-

Sen J. Ensign should resigh from his Senate seat-given how strong he cmes out against others that have done the same. Specially after the way he came at Pres. Clinton.

I am more outraged at the hypocricy of the 226 Democrates that voted to fund ( 106 bill $) the Iraq-Afhanistan wars ( with Pakistan starting to be one). They gave into the Military and the free Market economics of both partys.

Only 32 Dems, voted against approving $106 bill for the bloody wars. This to me is a lot more to be concerned abut than some stupid affair.

The bill also included to give the International Monetary Fund. Billions more in U. S. tax payer funds.

This kills the Anti War movement No?. It is Obama's war for sure now!! Just want to add that---Ron Paul---has always said he was against funding any war. He voted against it. He is not a hypocrite.

The Mongol Empire stretched from Southeast Asia to Europe. The Byzantine Empire lasted over a thousand years. The Ottoman Empire stretched from the Persian Gulf in the east to Hungary in the northwest; and from Egypt in the south to the Caucasus in the north. At the height of its dominion, the British Empire included almost a quarter of the world’s population.

Nothing, however, compares to the U.S. global empire. It is an empire that would make Alexander the Great, Caesar Augustus, Genghis Khan, Suleiman the Magnificent, Emperor Justinian, and King George V proud. What makes U.S. hegemony unique is that it consists, not of control over great landmasses or population centers, but of a global presence unlike that of any other country in history.

    Interim Report to Congress

Since 2001, Congress has appropriated about $830 billion to fund U.S. operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Over that period, America’s reliance on contractors has grown to unprecedented proportions to support logistics, security, and reconstruction efforts related to those operations. More than 240,000 contractor employees—about 80 percent of them foreign nationals—now work in Iraq and Afghanistan, supporting the Department of Defense. Additional contractor employees support the Department of State and the U.S. Agency for International Development.

I think it was a good post.... but I want Tony (and others who feel those issues are important to them) to make as much noise as they can about gay rights. And I will keep posting about (and writing my representatives) of how

Ensign: Hours Spent on Tanning Bed "Fried My Judgment"
One day after admitting to an extramarital affair with an aide, Sen. John Ensign (R-NV) pleaded for understanding, arguing that hours spent on a tanning bed "fried [my] judgment."

"I ask all of those who consider my wrongdoing to lie an hour on my tanning bed," he said. "You'll see - your ability to tell right from wrong gets pretty darn baked."

The Nevada senator agreed to 200 hours of community service in which he will work as a traffic cone.

In a positive development for Sen. Ensign, he received a strong vote of confidence today from another key tanned Republican in Congress.

One thing to remember when the plans are in your head, and you re-draw them everyday. ( Our motto here. )

It's better to make something simple that works well, than something that is complex , and starts going in different directions. A design philosophy, I happen to subcribe too.

Day before yesterday, it was reported that instruments in some VA hospitals had been used for multiple procedures...on different patients...without cleaning said instruments between procedures. One example of procedures...colonoscopies. This report bothered me mightily...but I haven't heard another word about it since the initial report. My question is...WHY???

I don't consider failure to clean medical instruments between procedures a small mistake. People have been exposed to viruses such as HIV because of this. I consider it criminal, and I think someone should probably do time...but news reports are covering important events...Obama killed a fly! Ensign cheated on his wife!

We are so easily distracted from the important things....

I heard about that horrible mistake you mentioned with the colonoscopy equipment HW. Talk about dumb ass. Someone's head should be rolling. It musta been on the NBC news since that is the only news I watch out here. They already found about 6-7 people positive for HepB, C and/or HIV.

From what I understood they used the cleaning attachment instead of the examining attachment for the colonoscopies. I am not familiar with that sort of equipment so it really doesn't make sense to me. I hope they drug tested the idiot responsible because it doesn't sound like an easy mistake to make. The entire story was weird.

I really am bothered by this story. There seems to be an increasing acceptance of inefficiency and incompetence in nearly every area of our lives. When we allow it in the medical arena, we're accepting extreme danger, it seems to me. I don't know...I think we should all be terrified of needing to go anywhere near hospitals...unless we're there as visitors.

  145. It is all part of the idea of "outsourcing" except in the case of medicine it is "insourcing" by importing on H1B Visas medical personnel rather than actually paying to train people here and demand a level of care that used to be normal.

I remember back in the 70s when some of the great Nursing Schools such as Queen of Angels were shut down because getting nurses out of Junior Colleges and from overseas were considered adequate.

Well you need an ethos that is drilled into students about service and care. Now days the ones who have it, already believed it. It hasn't been drilled into them and the pay is such that lackluster performance is acceptable.

Those starched whites and school caps may have been impractical, but those ladies knew their job and did it well until they actually started expecting to get paid.

One day when I was doing clinical with a group of students I decided to try and make an impression on them re: medication errors. I picked out a random selection of charts from the rack and on everyone, I found a medication error. Not very comforting.

The reason the insurers and big pharma are fighting single payer tooth and nail is that illness is profitable. You can treat a symptom indefinitely. Actually curing something stops the flow of cash.

It is in single payer's best interest to get people off the books in order to cut costs while it is in an Insurance or pharma's best interests to keep them coming back for more while the costs and profits keep climbing.

There wouldn't be as much outsourcing if businesses weren't caving under the cost of health care. Does a global economy care? No way ... low wages and no health care is so much cheaper.

That's a third world economy the American middle class hears knocking on its door.

When I went to sell my idea of an outpatient diabetes education center to the hospital I was working for I told them it would be good PR, a way to keep a good relationship with the patients with diabetes. Hypocrisy eh? Obama and Biden were orginally opposed to missile defense. Then Gates came out with a luke warm strategy in his defense outline. I predicted Gates would change his view on missile defense. Now the O-team is beffing up defense around Hawaii. There is some hypocrisy here seeing they will continue their luke warm declarations while frantically hoping missile defense can protect against threats they did not see coming so fast.

Ahmadinejad apologizes, well kind of. He was only blasting those who threatened violence. Rumor has it that Mousavi and Ahmadinejad might walk away and let a compromise candidate assume power. Is that Democracy? Mousavi might be surprised the people don't buy it as Quds continues to position troops around protesters.

Hypocrisy? Telling Israel to keep to agreements and then avoiding a reendorsement of a Jewish State.

Solar I don't know why you think military bill is hypocrisy. Obama said he would do this during the campaign. Perhaps you didn't listen. Didn't everyone understand that Obama answered in ways that left all options open? That you might have missed this shows how good a salesman Obama is.

  172. We really do need to get profit out of the picture as the major motivation in medicine today. As long as pharmaceutical and insurance companies are driving the bus, we're screwed.

Bottom line...I believe pharmaceutical companies would like for their products to do what they're intended to do...but I don't believe they do research and development very carefully. Why should they when they've been given indemnity from product liability in many cases, and when the agencies that supposedly regulate them are run by insiders who do the bidding of the major players involved in what they're supposed to be regulating?

Insurance companies? Pfft! As long as treatment decisions are based on the bottom line rather than on the advice of a patient's physician, there will be unnecessary deaths.

And Ping...dear Ping...there would be far less obesity and other medical problems if deregulation hadn't led to the inclusion of truly evil ingredients like high fructose corn syrup, which turns off your satiety impulse and makes you crave more of the 'foods' (I use that term very loosely when speaking of the crap we're sold in today's markets) that helped create the condition. Or hormones in many foods that are wreaking havoc with our bodies. And on and on and on...but always tied to the profit motives of corporations that have discovered ways of fattening their bottom lines at the expense of the general populace.

Apparently, the law demands notification to Congress and 30 days. It seems to me that, if this is not addressed, Obama will be showing himself to be... what? confused? a criminal?
a tinpot dictator? When I say "addressed", I mean explained very clearly what happened. There might be a good explanation and a mis-understanding, but what Mr Walpin is describing sounds to be to be more like the actions of a Noriega.

I don't know all the details and think all the details haven't been revealed yet, but I'm starting to worry. I remember too well how easily Obama dismissed concerns of Hillary's in the primaries, as Oh, she doesn't mean it. It's just a political move. That disturbed me then and I hoped I was wrong.

    Hi Solarman
Thanks I'm proud! I spent so much time and effort bringing this house together.I did it basically as a diversion after everyone died..I'm a self confessed neat freak who loves to do the work..I also am a Mr.Handyman who does most all the work himself..Ha Ha, I bet Judy runs a tight ship!! Good..I think your probably pretty clean yourself having been married so long!! I also love the outdoors and I've put in all my own landscaping and plants...Its one of the reasons I decided to stay in Florida,a year round growing season...I hope your doing well ..I did my hour stepper today and Nautilus weights...What about you?

  201. Bethyboo...this was not the break in life I was looking for! I have had two casts. Now my fingers are splinted until July 1st. The first cast really hurt my wrist and thumb...bad luck this summer. Today I was stopped at the border patrol station and they demanded I leave the car while they took my purse, items for my sis, etc. out of the car and had the dog go through the vehicle than all of my items. I was instructed to take any cash out of my wallet and they put me in a room (metal) and told me to wait. I am sure the room was metal so they could hose it down when dirty...yuck. It was like sitting in a bathroom. They questioned me. The agent asked me my name and date of birth and ran a check. Took 45 minutes for this entire process and nothing! Dog was wrong, but it was a terrifying experience to be whisked away without a wallet or phone while people tear through your belongings.

    Hey Carol
Your place is lovely!! Jessie is chained to his bed because I had company this afternoon and I didn't want to shut his bedroom door.It was business and Jessie is an attention hog!! I also don't give Jessie(14yrs old) the run of the house when I'm away at work.I have his food and water in the middle of a queen sized bed and he is very comfortable(ceiling fan on high,Jessie loves a breeze)..My grandmother crate trained Jessie most of his life so he prefers to stay in his bed anyways that is until I come home then he has the full house to roam.I take him swimming most everyday but most of the time he just stays on the sofa...Glad your getting close with the pool..Nice time a year for regular swimming...

  207. ct...there is a border patrol station 22 miles north on I-25. I was headed to Cuchillo to see my sis (about 90 miles from here) I have been through this station over 100 times. Every vehicle on the interstate must go single file and stop to declare their citizenship. I thought they were kidding when they pulled me over. I was alone most of the time until what appeared to be an illegal alien joined me. He only spoke Spanish. Sure glad Bologna wasn't with me.

Yes Judy likes a clean house. I help her with it. But I have to tell you something. I can count the times that I have cut the grass to be about 15-20 times in the 27 years that we have been here.

she told me that she doesn't like the way that I do it. She did admit that she likes doing it. I do all of the hard work around the house tho. I am thinking of doing it all of the time now. I think that it is getting to be a little bit harder for her to do.

Im glad that I have been staying in shape. Although I don't have a lot of work for me and my guy's . I place-finish concrete a cpl of times a week for another G.C. that has gov. work.

There is a big difference to me-from exercising and actually doing construction work. I get home tired-but that is to be expected. I don't over work my body by doing additional exercise.

Did you see what I told Patsi about her French toast?. The way that I make it now is very healthy. Good before or after a work out. If not I will re post if U want.

  209. Jamie, thanks so much for those two reports. I hope they can come up with some truly convincing info because both of these make sense. And Walpin certainly wasn't showing any senility on Dobbs show.

Even so, I don't see why they couldn't follow the 30m day scenario. It always takes my breath away when a sweeping action is taken unilaterally.

I'd just like a little more convincing.

  212. Tony, I don't even go swimming. I haven't had a toe in that water for over a year now. It is my forced exercise, throw money away program.

Trying to push that vacuum around the pool is some good resistance training. I have gone thru two different auto vacuum devices. The last one wore out several years ago and since I have a low suction in the pool, you have to watch it carefully anyway. Big problem if the two get together.

Never had Maggie in the pool and I don't bring her to the groomer because of her neck problem. She chokes with any collar type device. I just give her a mama hair cut. Looks like she got caught in a fan but she doesn't care. We aren't the vain type.

Solar, I always thought that having women do housework was some drastic mistake that got started years ago. Its just too much physical labor. Better suited for men. I'd much rather sit on my ZTR lawnmower and cut the grass. Its good preparation for my future hoveround. Even looks like one.

    Dogs never get mad when you forget their birthday;

    Dogs don't care about other dogs you've had in your life;

    Dogs don't get mad at you for petting another dog;

I have taken up with coffee and sweets. I never used to drink coffee-or at a lot of cakes and such. Now they are my only vise. I want to learn how to bake without-or using very little sugar.

Funny about drinking and smoking. I can have a few drinks whenever I want. Maybe a ciggerett or two. Then not touch them for months. I do enjoy a near freezing bud right after some good exercise of a after a hard hot day of work.

They get it from the patient, the patient's family, from the hospital administration, from the Docs and from other nurses. It ain't easy being a nurse. They could even get this blog group together and we could probably come up with some good solutions to fix the problem with health care. We are a pretty diverse group.

If I was one of Tony's clients, he would have very little work to do. Every time he would start digging in, I'd say "Stop! I have that all organized. I'll clean there." And, that would be repeated until he packed his tools up, picked-up his check, and left.

  249. That was a short walk. A little too humid for my taste. I cann't stand it hot-or humid:

Flatus - I have two nieces that are nurses. They always complain that there aren't any Union for them. I don't usually want them involved with workers. In this case of grossly over worked. Understaffed . Underpaid. I don't know.

I feel that the Unions of the past were needed very much to even the pay of worker- get them a living wage with benefits. I do think that they ( Management ) have abused the workers.

So Im of a mixed mind on this one. I do see your point and agree tho. There would have to be some sort of uniform of standards and all for them. It could not work if all Hospitals-facilities were all run differently one from the other no?

  253. Solar, the military has had nurses running hospitals and has had nurses serving as general officers making policy for running medical establishments.

When I was in Florida, the local hospital, run by Tenet, had a nurse as the operations chief.

There are MBA programs developed specifically for medical professionals. They're intended to give the professionals the business tools they need to be successful in running medical establishments. Both nurses and docs participate in these programs.

  262. Are ya'll having a drought Ivy. We haven't had rain in close to a month or maybe more. I really can't remember when and there is no rain in the forecast until maybe the middle or end of next week. Then it is only 20% chance.

I have a big problem at my house in that I have this, I'm afraid to throw anything away phobia. I think that is one reason I moved to the camp. I slobbed myself out of my house. I would love to hire someone to help me but I think, if I don't know what to do with it how is someone else going to know?

It is mostly a problem with papers. There are stacks everywhere. Even though it is chaos, I usually know where to find things and if I can't, I pray to St Anthony. That usually works.

No drought this year...we've had gallons of rain this season. Slight dry spell for a few days with this excessive heat, but our rain barrels are full to the brim.

Two summers ago, now THAT was a drought!

  269. Solar, I was almost about to close out for the night and caught up on the last posts, so I came back just for you!

The only thing I have to add to all the yakking I've already done today is to point out two things which have hurt teaching, and they have also been touched on today as to other subjects.

I think when you make it necessary for professionals to carry on their own fight for decent pay, you harm the profession itself. This happened in teaching - there are plent of people teaching today who are better
unionizers and fighters for equality. No insult at any of the jobs, but real union managers are not public school teachers. I would have been useless at handling discussions re salary. Teachers attentions have been distracted by the fight.

We have nurses unions out here, and I won't criticize them, but if they have to worry about defending temselves, they can't do their heart's work.

The other sore point with me is the so-called experts of a profession. Ann Landers went to Drs of Education in universities when she wasa asked re schools and teeaching. Believe me, those people are NOT working in el-hi schools, public or private. What they know is theory they have developed from experiments run by their grad students, analyzed by their grad students, and put into report form by their grad students. Someone who wants to teach in order to spread and share knowledge has to, absolutely HAS to, be in a classrom.

    Thaat's why I post long posts - I can't stop it.

Tony - your house is breath-taking!

  270. Tony --

If you're still here, the other "freaky thing" about my cleaning is the need to clean before I go away on vacation. Which I'm going next week, so that's probably why I'm fired up to get to every room before I leave. Hubs thinks it's absurd since no one will be here (except petsitter) so who cares? My point is not to come home from a nice vacation and be confronted with a mess.

I'm also obsessive about garbage, as in not leaving any. That's a fact of bug-control life in the humid south.

  278. a blurb from Glenn Thrush of POLITICO: (this is what the repuggs are made of: HYPOCRISY !!!)

    the blurb:

A somber Kerry was in no mood Wednesday to pronounce himself vindicated by the vote — but he told POLITICO that it should stop Republicans from using the support-our-troops line of attack against the Democrats anytime soon.

“They have to figure out whether they live up to their own standards or their own rhetoric — the rhetoric of supporting the troops,” the Massachusetts Democrat said. “Maybe they’ll end that kind of game forever now.”

Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) was less circumspect.

“This is part of their demagoguery,” said Frank, an anti-war Democrat who voted against the bill before he voted for it in order to support President Barack Obama’s IMF request. “In 1999 — when the Republicans had control [of the House] — they put [IMF funding] in the appropriations bill. It’s just hypocrisy. It makes nonsense of them ever accusing the Democrats of not supporting the troops.”

  299. Did you know that the KKK was once the wing of the Democrat Party? They not only hung blacks, because all blacks were members of the Republican Party at one point, but they hung white Republicans as well! About 1,400 as a matter of fact. George Wallace, who ran for Govenor of Alabama, lost his first primary election, because he turned down an endorsement from the KKK. The second time he ran for Govenor, he accepted their endorsement, and won. The Republicans voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964, not the Democrats. Ask Robert Byrd how he voted, being a former Klansman. It is the Republicans, who support the Voucher School program, to help inner city children to have a better education, and a safe environment as they learn and thrive! There are some young black children, who were attending Voucher (Charter) Schools in Washington D.C., where they doing very well on their test scores, etc. Once President Obama became President, that program ended, or is decidedly ending for those kids when the programs expire in 2010. Education for inner city children, is a civil rights issue, and even Barack Obama, The Education President, won't fight to keep the programs offered to those kids, because of the powerful, NEA (National Education Association), who paid a huge sum to his campaign. They will pay to fight any type of education reform! Shame on Barack Obama for that! Let's talk about hipocracy, yes! Let's do that! I think the Republicans will have some bad apples, but to throw the baby out with the bathwater for a few, is stupid! What do you say about the Democrat Party, who uses minorities, and lets them down over and over. Look at all of the entitlement programs they throw to people, yet, the inner cities never get better. It is always, "we need more money"! Then we have Jesse Jackson, and others like him, who have made a career of race baiting, yet, they really don't serve the cause of those they say they are trying to help. How rich is Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton? They can point out the wrongs of whites, and say the Republicans are racists, yet, their own party, does its own under the radar type of racism. I think there is enough hipocracy to go around. But, I would rather be a Republican, who has always believed that blacks deserve better education, to help them get out of the inner cities, or to change them from the inside out! Obama had a wonderful education, you would think he would want that for those who voted for him. So sad.
