  2. Now here is another Republican who called for the murder of Federal Judges in Chicago arrested by the FBI.

"Hal Turner, an occasional talk show host on internet radio and blogger, was arrested today by the FBI in his New Jersey home on charges he threatened to murder three federal appeals court judges in Chicago following their recent ruling upholding handgun bans.

According to the U.S. attorney's office, postings on Turner's web site included photos of the judges and addresses for them, with statements such as: "Let me be the first to say this plainly; These judges deserve to be killed.""

  6. Interesting point from the previous thread Jack. How many great adventure stories start with the sudden appearance of a single uncle or aunt that whisks the young person away on a great adventure?

We're the risk takers, explorers, and adventurers and we bring a little of that into the lives of our nephews and nieces.

We're also the ones that can sit as an elder and take an objective view of family squabbles.

Excuse me, another adventure is calling. I hear there be pirates down in Florida Tony.

I just saw the date. 42 years ago today, Dorthia Barrett. had decorated her house for Christmas.
Lanny Field and I sat down and listened to " Are You Experienced " on her giant stereo .

Years later , my manger on the west coast took me to the Gene Autry Museum of the West. When they found out I knew Lanny Field, the doors opened for me.
Lanny Field went on to gather every scrap of Texas music he could find.
That's why the Gene Autry Museum of the West welcomed me with open arms. I listened to Jimi Hedrix once with Lanny Field.

  12. Crooks and Liars on the fear mongering spouted by Glen Beck and Fema Concentration Camps.

" Beck: We don't even understand freedom anymore. We are a country that is headed toward socialism, totalitarianism, beyond your wildest imagination.

I have to tell you, I am doing a story tonight, that I wanted to debunk these FEMA camps. I'm tired of hearing about them -- you know about them? I'm tired of hearing about them. I wanted to debunk them.

We'll we've now for several days been doing research on them -- I can't debunk them! And we're going to carry the story tonight.

...It is our government -- if you trust our government, it's fine. If you have any kind of fear that we might be headed toward a totalitarian state, there is something going on in our country that it's -- it ain't good. "

    http://crooksandliars.com/david-neiwert/glenn-beck-who-me-spread-baseless-fe

Of course he did debunk it weeks later with a short line comment I believe, however he made sure that before he did that his viewers had already believed that by his saying he could not disprove it that it must be true.

Typical Reichwing Faux News put out to all those who are prone to doing violence against those who do not follow their view of America.

  13. I reckon tobacco is still the topic, so I will share that two months ago I passed a milestone, 10,000 days without a cigarette.
Soon that will turn into a quarter million hours cig-free.
Of course , my 4 and a half years of enjoying the occasional cigar and pipe make this information sort of worthless, but what the hail!

While I guess it was will-power that got me off tobacco for good, will-power is worthless in trying to get off alcohol.
That took total submission to the ruler of my little universe, His Royal Highness John Barleycorn.
I cried "UNCLE!", staggered up off the barroom stool and into the sunlight of the day, and never looked back..

yesterday's suggestion about only eating your own needs some expansion in order for you to see how quality tends to limit quantity. secret is is to use only the finest ingredients: organic whipping cream, half-n-half, whole milk, sugar and the best most expensive vanilla you can find. if you throw in handcranking, it's even better. no way are you going to go thru all that trouble and expense and not self-regulate the intake.
bad side effect tho' is that one tends to become an icecream hoarder, not sharing with loved ones, a solitary imbiber lying about where you've stashed the goodies. another lost weekend scenerio.

  53. BayRocks Healthcare venture last night
Sorry We do Not need to Overhaul the entire system - We need to keep pushing innovation and Personal accountablility

can we get to some Real Science and facts! The attack on Global warming which is based on disputed elements is driving many directions and very costly choices for our Country. The Healthcare costs are documented with much more direct facts - just a few of the elements that are costing us the Billions - Trillions over 10 years - and in fact one area he walks away and that is to protect his fellow lawyers - the likes of John Edwards.

So why not attack the out of control legal aspects which drive doctors to protect themselves by extra testing - Some estimates in high lawyer active areas is 1 out of 3 extra tests !!

So why not point the finger directly at Obesity and the fact that a FAT America is one of the top cost drivers - Not the "System" ! If I have a bad driving record I pay more for Car Insurance

Sorry Craig - But Smoking - Glad you are working on it...

And if we can get CHF under control (Congestive Heart Failure) this alone could save 500 Billion a year !!! And in many areas local Healthcare is establishing CHF clinics to save huge dollars and improve the quality of life. Right Pati

  56. My feelings re: Sanford. When you listen to his press conference, this is not a man that is contrite. He planned what he was going to say. Probably did it while in Argentina. He sounded as if he were actually bragging. Maybe even rubbing it into his wife's face.

I just bet that wifey was planning on booting him out of the house before he left and he knew this would all come out. He wanted to go down with a bonfire. He had to have known that his disappearance would not go unnoticed.

I listen to Reich Wing radio on the way home and often the talk and topics are how the new President is destroying America and the people who call in agree and often suggest they need to take America back to the values we had before he became President.

You know what values their talking about. Them good values like holding people indefinitely without the right to a lawyer or court hearing, torturing those in our custody and the other many values that they believe in.

They denigrate, demean and demonize Liberals, Democrats, President Obama and anyone who don't follow their Reich Wing Values, you know, like Joseph Goebbels did in Nazi Germany about Gays, Blacks, Gypsies and of course lets not forget those of Jewish Heritage.

And least we also forget here at home right now, pro choice people, Hispanics and drum roll please, Muslims.

These are the values that the Republican Party follows now and they are getting more violent as each day passes.

I really don't care what you think of me, that is how I see it. You can see it anyway that you want, that is your right.

You had to go and remind me of my uncle's Fresh Peach ice cream. Real vanilla pods for the custard. Eggs from his free range chickens, Milk and Cream straight from the cow, peaches picked perfectly ripe off the trees .... Hand cranked and served under the trees at the peak of a Fresno summer .... Nothing has ever tasted that good since.

  76. mornin'

Ping, Sanford is not a lawyer. He was an Eagle Scout and an MBA from UVA - and was Chairman of the Republican Governors' Association (that's some sort of leadership position isn't it? but I digress) And if he doesn't eat grits he's no southern boy. So a new Republican party is emerging - led by Vitter, Craig, Sanford and Ensign. My, my, but the conventions should be much more fun than they used to be.

When it came to home made ice cream, I loved all the flavored ones, but in the end, it was always the vanilla that was the best. I can remember taking turns with my dad and sister (sis was useless) hand cranking the ice cream churn. God almighty was that stuff delicious.

  81. We had a benefit cookout last night for a guy at work. I don't know the guy, because he works on 2nd shift on the other side of the building. Anyway, this guy at work was recently in a serious motorcycle accident, his wife was riding with him on his motorcycle at the time. This guy and his wife were seriously injured in the accident. Luckily, a nurse and a spinal injury specialist happened to be at the scene of the accident. The nurse saved this guy from bleeding to death and the spinal injury specialist saved his wife from being paralyzed. So, they were both lucky for that. However, the guy had to have his left leg amputated below the knee. So, we had a benefit cookout to raise money for them. There is also a discussion at work to forego our summer picnic and give the money that was budgeted for the picnic to families in need.

  85. Patsi,

For me the debacle of the impeachment of Bill Clinton
will linger on and the fact that the very same republicans that created it---still just do not
seem to get it---they piously preach "family values"
to everyone else---then when they are exposed for
the frauds they are---they act like just saying "sorry"
    is acceptable.

But the bright side of their failure to learn is that it may
keep them out of power for a long, long time.

    Chloe,

As far as I am concerned---having more women
take control would be a big plus---since having
entered a predominantly male profession more than
25 years ago---when in CT there were not many women attorneys & very few women judges (the majority of them being placed in the juvenile court
system) but that is a topic that is best left for another
day---each time I see a woman advance through the
minefield that has faced them over the years---I am
    proud of their acheivements.

My take of Sanford is that he is a genuine maverick, doing what he believes rather than what might be politically expedient. The stimulus thing is a case in point.

One thing about him has especially impressed me; it's his afternoons where any state resident can come to the State House and talk with him about any type of concern that they feel the governor can make better.

I chauffeured a vet with Alzheimer's and his wife to meet with him about trouble getting disability and VA benefits. It was after 5-pm when they talked. No matter, the governor got on the phone to his director of veterans' affairs, had him come in to the State House, where he was told to personally shepherd the fellow's case. Which he did.

Does that make him an effective governor? Does it make up for his philandering? No, in both cases.

But, in my eyes, it makes him a caring person who just happens to be in over his head.

Pogo, I have to say that it depends on what you eat. That meat was contaminated with E-coli, but it was also recalled. Meat is always a risk, whether we buy it that way, store improperly, or if we aren't careful when we cook it. But, being careful, I haven't had food poisoning in many a year. I actually don't think our country does all that badly in monitoring the food and water.

  91. This is one of the funniest quotes I've seen yet associated with the Sanford kerfuffle.

“Personal circumstances over the course of the last week have managed to shrink the front line of the 2012 possible contender list by 30 percent,” said Phil Musser, a former executive director of the Republican Governors Association."

    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/25/us/25sanford.html?hp

I particularly kied this little tidbit from the article.

"Mr. Sanford and his wife had joined an intensive Bible study group for couples in the last few months, according to William H. Jones, president of Columbia International University, a conservative evangelical college. Dr. Jones said the governor and his wife had been encouraged to join the Bible study by a longtime friend, Cubby Culbertson, a businessman in Columbia who teaches the Bible and who was thanked by the governor in his news conference."

I guess that little Bible study group wasn't as effective as it might have been.

And now "crying" is apparently the new Repug euphemism for what the coarser of us might call fucking.

“And so oddly enough, I spent the last five days of my life crying in Argentina.”

Is that a suicide anouncement? Hmmm.

I say sauce for the goose, you live by your own words, .... and on and on. Fact is, if he stays in office, he should be subject to the same BS impeachment process that he supported against Clinton when he was in Congress. It ain't gonna happen - Repugs control both houses of SC government, and I don't know, he may be a pretty good governor - but I'm just sayin' that you have to be willing to live by the rules you impose on others.

  103. chloe, I'm sure that food producers have that threat in mind, but take a look at this article from 2007.

    http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2007/02/26/national/w135627S63.DTL&type=politics

This was the standard back then: "Firms that produce high-risk foods more susceptible to contamination, such as fresh fruit and vegetables, are supposed to be inspected every year, unless they have a good safety record. Then inspections are done every two or three years, Herndon said."

    But here's the rub:

"A recent Government Accountability Office report noted that most of the $1.7 billion the federal government allocates to food safety goes to the Agriculture Department, which is responsible for regulating about 20 percent of the food supply. The FDA, responsible for most of the other 80 percent, gets about 24 percent of the total."

Think about that - in a federal budget that appraoches a trillion dollars, only one point seven billion are allocated to food safety. States also have health departments that inspect food producers I expect, but I'd be willing to bet that they concentrate on restaurants and other such places where fines are more likely than in food production facilities.

  104. As far as Sanford---here is a sampling of the right's
sympathy for the "man, his family, etc"---but did these very same republicans express even the slightest bit of
concern for any of the democrats---don't think so!

That is why Gail Collins comments posted above that "sexual stone-throwing is a dangerous sport" is so spot on.

    From National Review-Jim Geraghty:

"But underneath the wreckage of the most spectacular implosion of a gubernatorial rising star since — well, Eliot Spitzer — is a man, and a family, and a group of staffers and former staffers shocked and a little wounded by the crash’s metaphorical shrapnel. Inside South Carolina and out, the press conference thoroughly stunned those who once thought Mark Sanford was a great governor, a great boss, and in fact, a great husband and father too"

I suspect he is much chastened and would not now be using the same words that he did against Mr Clinton, unless he was using them against himself.

I saw and booked that U-tube about the solar oven. I have a cpl more ideas for U.

First - If it is possible to tilt the over forward ( accidents do happen ).
On the front of the oven- one at each corner-there could be a sliding leg. These come down to act as a break for the oven.

Sorta like a scaffold's wheel has with the break for it. Second - Don't give up on the idea about an ice cooler for the meat-and the pop (biggest profit) On the rear of the bike-behind the seat-there could be a rack made to support it.

Or on the frame of the bike between the rider-and the oven. Ok now you can tell me to mind my own biz. These things could be added on the the basic model.

  132. Jax, impeachment is a charge, not a finding of guilt. He agreed to disbarment as a penalty for being held in contempt of court. Facts matter jax. You paint with too broad a brush, but apparently you condemn Sanford for his offense - you should. See, I don' t think he should have to quit OR be impeached, except by application of his own words to himself. I don't think sexual purity is a requirement for high office. It's the Repugs who raised that bar, and now they need to take the same medicine they have forced on others, not because it's a correct bar to raise, but because they have chosen it. I think the fact that that f*cking hypocrite Gingrich is again becoming powerful in Repug circles is the height of irony.

  144. Pogo,
In macro-economic terms, that's not all bad news. With all the government stimulus spending we will undoubtedly be seeing a surge in inflation eventually. A slow recovery in employment will at least postpone, and perhaps ease wage pressure. This, in turn, will give the Fed some reason to keep interest rates low, supporting recovery. If employment were to come roaring back, the Fed would be forced to raise rates.

All this, of course, is theory. What will happen in the real world is anyone's guess.

Sanford's real problems will come calling if the audits show any fraudulent travel and other expenses for personal reason by using tax payer money. in order to lower physician overhead costs dramatically and as an enticement to join public plan, congress prohibits malpractice suits with limited exceptions for egregious cases. this assumes that congress also sets up better professional oversight and enforcement to weed out bad healthcare providers, not allowing participation in the new system.

  162. patd:

I don't think we should limit malpractice suits to "egregious" cases. That is too high a standard since I think people would still want to be able to bring suit where you have suffered a serious injury due to bad or negligent care.

What I would propose is something similar to the framework the established for securities fraud lawsuits:

-limit discovery (which is very costly) - until a lawsuit has survived a motion to dismiss (which is filed at the start of the litigation and is designed to weed out frivolous lawsuits).

-set limits on the amount of recovery

-make clear that running a bunch of unnecessary tests will not be a valid defense if a doctor screws up.

-perhaps set up some specialized courts with judges that have expertise - who can weed out the frivolous lawsuits from the legitimate ones.

(You could create a higher pleading standard - but you need to be careful. Because this could really hurt poor people's ability to bring suit. Maybe you could counteract that by making sure there are legal aid attorneys willing to take on legitimate cases of people who can't afford a lawyer.)

Posted by: warren Author Profile Page | June 25, 2009 12:08 PM

  163. I always have sympathy for people that suffer from frivolous lawsuits.

They are a huge waste of time and money - even if they are dismissed early.

But on the other hand, most of the doctors I have heard complaining about huge medical malpractice insurance are usually pretty well-off and seem to still be making good money.

So while I am all in favor of tort reform - we shouldn't swing too far in the opposite direction.

That seems to be a huge problem in our politics - we just keep swinging too far in either direction - and continuously fail to strike the right balance somewhere in the middle...

Posted by: warren Author Profile Page | June 25, 2009 12:13 PM

  164. warren, thanks for responding. the proposed limitation of suits plus stricter professional regulation would be agreed to by both user and provider in the public single payer system. nothing would change for the private system. and you're right that there has to be a legal aid type set up for the poor for either system. as for a specialized court, i think some states have or are moving in this direction.

That was my bitch with Sarah Palin. Despite my defending her to the death against sexist attacks, I hate how she reacted to potential power. 172. I'm personally waiting for Governor Sanford to explain why it took him five days to break up with his girlfriend (LoL), but in the meantime, I am not among those who believe he necessarily ought to resign. If our standard is that all politicians who philander should resign, then you might be very surprised by who would have to resign, on both sides of the aisle. I personally know of one that would probably surprise the socks off most people on this blog. (By the way, I'm a liberal, and so is he.) This is largely a political question. If Sanford did anything that violated the law or his oath of office, then the South Carolina legislature can take care of that, if they so choose. If he did anything that the majority of voters can't abide, they can take care of that. That's why they have rules and ballot boxes. If the people of South Carolina don't care about what Sanford does or did, then that's their choice. Virtue is its own reward, and you get what you pay for.

On a related, but slightly oblique, topic, can anyone answer the question of how the press got hold of Sanford's private e-mails? I know of at least one federal law and a myriad of state laws that prohibits people from accessing the personal e-mail accounts of others without permission. Where did those e-mails come from?

Regarding Sanford: The governor needs to resign or be removed from office not because of any moral hypocrisy or marital infidelity, but because he abandoned his constituents and left the country for 7 days without providing any contingencies in the event of anything which would require his official approval or input. He shirked his professional responsibility. It disappoints me personally, because he seemed to have integrity concerning fiscal and economic matters, and as he leans Libertarian, I like to see as much Libertarian representation in government at this time. Sorry Mr. Sanford; I like you, but you gotta go.

Regarding Apple Inc. products: They are good consumer products, but are essentially disposable Chinese plastic junk, destined to clog landfills for eternity. Everything you do with them you will have to pay for. For any given task you would like to achieve, with a PC, there is probably a legally free program available. With Macs, you have to pay for everything. Macs do crash, lag, and get viruses, just very rarely compared to PCs, and they are not easily upgradable by novice users, as PCs are. I've had my PC for 10 years, and it is easily upgraded or repaired when necessary. Yes, I have to recover it often, but it's like getting a new computer after I do; backing-up is important. Vista is awful; just install XP.

  210. Jamie,

I've been using Windows since it was available on low-density 5-1/4" disks. That was a _long_ time ago.

The machine I'm using right now is running XP-Pro. It's solid and does fine, but with no bells and whistles.

I have the 64-bit version of Vista Ultimate on two computers--one a desktop and the other a laptop. The first has 4-gig of ram and the other 3-gig. It rocks on both and is rock solid. I keep current with all the available patches. The 64-bit version is far superior to the 32-bit based on my own experiences.

I have Win7 on my netbook with 3-gig. It's the 32-bit version. Its a superb operating system. Even with the low-powered Atom processor, it is truly speedy. And, I'm not talking about the dumbed-down version of Win7 that they plan for netbooks, I'm talking about the Ultimate with all the bells and whistles and overhead.

I also run Windows Home Server on another machine. It is a superb server. I leave it online, without rebooting, for weeks at a time. It handles shared files and does runs centralized backups for all the other computers.

I know that you're have real problems with your installation of Vista. Based on my experience, I think your jinxed, or at least your computer is :)

The Vista Home Pro version is sluggish, overloaded with unnecessary crap that you can't detach without messing up everything else. Does quirky things with files that you never told it to do ... I know a whole raft of family pictures are in there somewhere, but damned if I can find them.

This latest crash and burn was while running a recommended Chkdsk that locked up in stage 5 of 5.

Vista would be bearable if you could get help, but either you are among thousands in the forums begging for some sort of assistance, or it costs you a by the hour fortune for some tech to deign to notice your existence.

MS has the typical monopoly's attitude towards customers: Be glad we sold it to you in the first place.

  224. My Brain Fart of the Day

Jamie, normally I would think that funny ...about Clinton, that is. I don't care much of what a politician does to get their rocks off unless it is illegal or pathetically unfaithful. Bill knew the Republicans were breathing down his back. As a result of his stupidity, it cost his administration, the country and 2000.

It is the consequence of idiocy that isn't funny. Spitzer case in point. I can be an idiot because it harms only me. Spitzer had thousands of fanatical fans and political associates he made promises to. He went to a fine high school. Months into office as Governor there circulated the rumor that the first Jewish President was on its way. Where, to a hotel on the taxpayer's account?

    Gary Hart had a shot.

    Edwards?

Despite the indiscretions of youth (and don't most have them?), a hard-nosed, determined and principled politician doesn't let their lust or failed relationship derail the trust and respect they pretend to represent to both their supporters AND THE CAUSE of the day. Would it be nice if political couples really loved each other, or get single?

    From the Liberal Side:

“The SoCons are the threat and as long as they represent the face of the GOP, Democrats can blast their added hypocrisy in sexual matters because the GOP is the Party of God and Virtue. If you assail their hypocrisy you defeat the values they represent.”

Well, Republicans sin because all sin or none sins at all. Republicans are not immune to sin because they promote SoCon views. Conservatives would argue that it is not about the principles (conservative doesn’t necessarily mean social conservatism), just that Sanford proves Republicans are human and not always in keeping with their professed opinions about morality. Political couples are an odd lot if you ask me. And I don't buy the idea that we should put people in charge of our laws and enforcements who can't manage their own personal life. Can't be a great candidate if you're a prime candidate for blackmail.

If it is to kill the SoCons as a political force and thereby destroy all SoCon principles this failed strategy doesn't work. The Men’s room fiasco bring them down? The idea that you damage the core principles by connecting Sanford to the ideals he represents when Democrats have warts gets little traction. In fact going after Sanford seems to reflect a lack of better argument. Insincere, probably. Irreligious, perhaps.

When Liberals go after rather absolutist socio-religious moral beliefs which many Agnostic, Atheists and moderate religious folk are positively informed by (see below) in connecting Sanford's behavior with believing in said beliefs, they needlessly annoy a large group. This is not a winning strategy. It ultimately pisses off a lot of people and it also reveals a deeper truth the media would love to forget: that certain quasi-absolutist beliefs are inherent in most rationalistic schools of thought and qualify them as a "religion". What differs is the definition of "God". Liberals are no less absolutist and moralistic in their advocacy. In fact they are even louder because the claim life, the environment, the planet

I'm not sure Socialism or Christianity are invalidated because a group of people utilizing their absolutist creeds for political power crap all over their self-righteousness. Messengers are rarely the message.

I find it amusing that in the case of the miscreant Ahmadinejad, his principles are rarely attacked. Somehow Liberals spin him and the clerics as some kind of unique perversion of personality, but in the case of Sanford, his behavior is a reflection of the failed ideals Republicans promote. Now as Ron Paul, he isn’t so honesty about his anti-Semitism and his expectations of a Paul Doctrine as foreign policy are hilariously irrational. I’m not sure I would feel comfortable with such a person in charge of things. I have a higher bar for the rationality of POTUS.

In Paul and Znet we find the "loud" extremes almost touching over our heads in the curvature of political space. You can see how absolutists mingles at the edges of extremism. Islam merging with Nazis in Berlin. Survivalist merging with Islamofascists and 9/11 ers. But be careful (depending on where you stand) at looking up.

Once in a very large space I pictured the ground right under my feet as the Center with the rising mirrored walls in the distance around me becoming less Moderate as they climbed to hold the Principled Ceiling. Hundreds of feet above my head it sloped gently even higher and in the highest crack where the sloping sides of the Principled Ceiling met, a small brown spot appeared which I could barely see. It eventually got larger and darker until it began dripping and a drop fell all the way down through the hazy air. It splattered off the top of my head with a loud "plop". The further I walked away, the less I could smell the odor.

With Edwards to your back, Hypocrats last as fast as news cycles spin.

    Posted by: jamie44.myopenid.com Author Profile Page | June 25, 2009 4:32 PM

  226. Renee,

The laptop I installed Vista on is a new HP. It came in loaded with HP crapware, much of it in hidden files, that I had to purge before doing anything else. I had to go to HPs site to find 64-bit drivers for their machine and then create my own install DVD with them on it. In other words, they did everything possible to make a straight-forward install difficult. For a person without expert knowledge, it would be an impossible install.

And, if HP is having problems with any of their production software on any Windows platform, it's because they're gaming the system. In other words, they're using their intimate knowledge of Windows to access undocumented features. Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn't support undocumented features so people trying to take advantage of them often find themselves SOL.

I was careful in not being critical of Jamie. I accept the descriptions of her problems as being factual and madding. I presented my experiences using a different version of the software as a counterbalance.

If I was running a large business I think using Vista would be insanity as it is a high risk platform for many users and because it offers virtually no advantages for business users.

I also have the 64-bit version of XP Pro. It is a screamer, but is not well supported.

That's about it. The sluggish response despite regularly clearing temporary files was the real bear on a minute by minute aggravation, The other things such as seemingly losing files was the wanting to throw the box at the wall along with not handling doc files and screwing with all my old materials.

I had XP before and loved it. Vista should never have been released. It simply proved that MS didn't really care about customers only dollars.

It was by a Crow woman who had an uncle there. It tells the story of how when Edward Curtis came to the Agency, he learned the Crow version of the battle. ( It was nothing like the Budweiser Saloon Poster ). From some of the eye witnesses .

Anyway , he was appalled by the distance the myth had strayed from the story of the battle. He was good friends with Teddy Roosevelt, and urged the president to set the record straight.
Roosevelt told him to forget about it, he wasn't going to wade into that

No problems with my vista on the Vaio either. My hubby has an older HP that he changed over from Vista to XP, and it works fine now, plus he had all the HP software removed too. He had a friend that had a business copy of xp and did it for him for free though.

  256. FAR WEST ~ 1876

    Built: 1870, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.
    Type: Sternwheel wooden hull packet.
    Size: 190' x 33' x 6' . Could carry 200 tons and 30 cabin passengers, drawing only 20 inches, un-ladened. Powered by three boilers, 15's - 5'.

Operating on the Missouri, Yellowstone and Osage Rivers, the Far West earned a place in history in 1876, under the able command of Captain Grant Marsh. He had taken General Alfred H. Terry and Custer's columns to the Little Big Horn and while waiting with supplies, the Far West crew received the news that Custer and his command had been wiped out two days before.

Later, on June 30, the wounded of Major Reno's 7th Cavalry detachment were loaded onto the Far West, and Marsh traveled all day and night carrying the wounded to the hospital at Fort Lincoln, making the run from Fort Pease, Montana, to Fort Abraham Lincoln, Dakota Territory, 710 miles in 54 hours ~ the fastest trip ever made by a steamboat on the Missouri, despite the ever-shifting sandbars and the numerous snags that made navigation on the Missouri River extremely hazardous.

On July 5, the Far West reached Bismarck, and four days later, Captain Marsh headed the Far West back up the Missouri to the Little Big Horn with supplies and horses for the soldiers left there.
In this scene, the Far West is pictured in the early morning at the mouth of the Rosebud, as George Armstrong Custer's 7th Cavalry breaks camp before the campaign.

The Far West was snagged and lost on the Missouri River at Mullanthy Bend, seven miles below St. Charles, on October 30, 1883.

Governor Mark SanfordWe've been on the hunt in Buenos Aires, Argentina and found the bar where Governor Mark Sanford brought his mistress -- so how do you say PDA in Spanish?

Carlos Soto, the owner of Guido's Bar, says he's seen Sanford and Maria Belen Chapur there several times over the last few months -- most recently last week.

Soto says they were "all over each other" last week in his bar, "kissing, holding hands and drinking wine."

Soto was impressed with Maria, saying she has "un cuerpazo'" -- translation: a banging body.

Soto also said Maria has green eyes and dirty blonde hair.

Actually I was thinking it is a good time to be a woman and then immediately thought, No, that's not right. So I tried to think of the exact words I wanted to use.

The closest I can come up with were what I said. Women are looking good right now with so many men screwing up and, all too often, killing people esp women. Maybe that's why men are killing women in Iran and Illinois and other places - I DON'T know, but
Scott Peterson and Drew Peterson and the guy from Joyce Meyers church group added to the old men who run Iran and have kept the young Neda's body (apparently).......well, women seem to be on the forefront of sanity and responsibility right now. I'm proud of how many of my fellas are acting. ( I know I'm gonna get a list of bad women, from that line, but the list ain't anywhere near what we've got on the guys. Besides, read on.)

I'm not insinuating superiority, esp with Kate Gosselin and a few of the moms screwing up. It just looks as if women are out in front now.

But I would like to see more of them in power.

About mal-practice suits - some docs are named in lawsuits who had nothing to do with a case, on the theory of deep pockets. If someone signs that they understand risks, they have no right to sue, in my opinion.

    Oh, yeah, welcome, AnnaMolly.

As I understood from several Tech sites I use at work Win7 was available for evaluation and testing by computer geeks who had to sign up for it.

It was still being offered up until last week I believe and the version that Microsoft was allowing to be downloaded was a BETA version.

So my question is where did you get a full blown working version of Win7 or is yours the BETA version that Microsoft had out for evaluation for free?
