From what I gather, this will be no Bork-like fight...I saw Orrin Hatch say "I know he's not going to appoint a conservative anyway..." giving substance to Craig's remark that since this will not change the Court's makeup anyway, may as well save the bullets for when a Conservative retires.
I like Craig's idea of a young firebrand appointee...someone to shout down Roberts and Alito (who I particularly can't stand)

Very nice video - one of Craig's best assets is his enjoyment of the games all those people play. He aactually smiles and laughs. I think that was what first made me remember him, as he stood out from the crowd.

God, I hope that the rest of SCOTUS republicans resign tomorrow. Dexter can't stand alito. I can't stand that bigmouth liar, toni the phonie.
The Original Intent of the Founding Fathers was that there is no time to count the votes, therefore all state elections should be decided in favor of the rebushlican by Justice toni the phonie. Take the cases of FL Presidential Electors or the Latent MN Senator norman b coleman JUNIOR, for instance.
there is any is any modern equivalent of anti-Black roger b taney, proto-nazi mcreynolds, and anti-Latino, anti-Indian Chief Injustice william renchler, it has to be this noisome, shallow, hypocritical, loud fart in robes, toni the phonie. Together these intellectually corrupt crooks make up the Four Horseturds of the Apocalypse.
Sorry Dexter, alito is too mediocre, too banal, too insufficient to even rate a footnote. If there is anyone on the court who rivals silent clare for the title of class dunce, it is little alito, the legal mosquito.

Sorry, bethyboo, I may actually have meant 'Injustice for rent'. The lying SOB scalia spent 20 years yakking strenuously about the need to follow "Original Intent", but when it came to the single most important example of what he'd been jabbering about, he tossed away his 'core beliefs' and stood up for the texas oilmen's candidate, theft of ballot boxes, voter intimidation, and SCOTUS interference in state matters. If there ever were an example of a intellectual and moral corruption on the SCOTUS, toni the phonie is it.

Carol, the Advil seems to do a really good job at controlling the fever. It was 96.8 when I took my bedtime meds and hit the sack. Of course, this morning, it was back up to 101.6.
As soon as I got out of bed I took another Advil and Stinky has me sitting here with my feet propped-up and an ice pack planted firmly on my cranium.
I don't become acutely ill often. But when I do, she panics because I had promised her that she could 'leave' first.

Carol,
My former next door neighbors at Ft Leavenworth were an Army Sergeant Major and his wife, also of the Korean persuasion. He died earlier this year.
In any case they moved to Huntsville, Texas in the middle '80s. He was fortunate enough to get on the management track at the prison. Fourth of July night, about 8:00 our time, we received a frantic call from his wife saying he had had open heart surgery earlier in the day but that the surgeon had left to watch fireworks with his family without giving her any sort of report.
I called the sheriff's office in Huntsville, introducing my self as Chief Ohlfahrt calling from my home in Florida. I explained the situation, gave them the doc's name, and asked him if they would do me the professional courtesy of rounding him up and taking him to the hospital to talk with our friend.
Within an hour I got a call from the wife saying that an _extremely_ apologetic cardiac surgeon, accompanied by two deputies had arrived to give her a progress report.

Flatus, the reaction you are having seems to be fairly common with the drug. Drug info says it can last up to 3 days or even up to 7-14 days. They recommend using acetomenophen instead of NSAIDS:
"Caution is indicated when Reclast is used with other potentially nephrotoxic drugs such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs."

The help line terminated in India. Yes, I'm off steroids (but I did have to take a course of them early this year). And they had put me on something called fludrocortisone in an effort to keep my blood pressure up. Despite it being an extremely small dosage, it started doing some of the typical things like retaining water and coating my vocal chords. I stopped that on my own last month.

Yes, Carol. Ibuprofen is also one of the things they suggest taking. The acetaminophen is a component of the Darvocet, but that particular component has never, when taken alone, had a dramatic affect on me.
It's been about an hour and a half since the Ibuprofen. I'm down to 99.8 now.

Flatus the drug info. does caution using NSAIDS, in which Ibuprofen is one. The above is a quote from their literature.
This reaction is pretty common according to the drug literature so you can't blame them. The medical practitioners should be cautious electing to give the treatment when there is a big flu scare going. We have to consider many things like this when making decisions.

I was recently the victim of my Docs(three of them) not giving me enough info when getting my radioactive iodine treatment. I didn't want to read too much so I wouldn't be too afraid. I am very suggestive. That was a mistake.
They had me off my anti-thyroid meds for a month before and didn't mention getting back on after. I almost died from thyroid storm. Fortunately I did the reading when I started having the symptoms and ran to my meds and restarted just in the nic of time.

Carol,
Back in from the grass. Didn't do any of the edging, etc.
NSAIDs. Pain management has been a major issue for me because of both osteo and rheumatoid arthritis along with a couple HNPs and Crohn's. Basically it comes down to doing what works while carefully watching out for GI effects. As an example, the doc offered to give me doxy yesterday. I declined because I don't want to do any antibiotic without doing some major probiotic stuff along with it. And, I simply didn't see how an antibiotic would have helped my situation.
I know there are some NSAIDs that I simply can't do, like Feldene or ASA. Others I will try gingerly.
And, I agree totally that they shouldn't have started the procedure right now. And they absolutely must develop a practical way of differentiating their side effects from influenza. And give guidance as when to get back to one's doc.
So, now I'm off to the shower! I figure I have about 45-minutes before the fever kicks back in.

Just now on the Derby scratch story ... "That's good news that it's not serious (go to sad voice), it's so awful when they have to put down a horse."
It almost makes you wonder if they aren't picked for having excitable personalities or it could be a modern trend.

Friesen Fire, Dunkirk, and Pioneer of the Nile are now the heavily betted horses, but it will be a muddy track (not sloppy - just wet). That throws a whole other monkey wrench into matters. It's all the imponderables that make it so much fun.
Rachel Alexander was incredible yesterday. She is a magnificent horse and I like the fact that her owners kept her out of the Derby even though the Oaks is a smaller prize. They are thinking about her long term welfare.

I love the gray horses and the large field plus the sluggish track can make a lot of difference in a race like this. Any of the horses can surprise you like Giacamo did several years ago.
Of all the thousands of colts born three years ago, these 19 horses have made it to the big time. There isn't a bad one in the bunch nor even among all the others who have been sidelined in the past three months of Derby Trials just trying to get here.

It is a little digital camera. I am trying to get some interesting pics for C-Bob's blog. I am looking for that big swamp foot creature but so far he has evaded me. It was still a nice ride. With that boat working again and someone to play with I am in heaven.
My drunk friend, who I can never get out of her house came over yesterday evening. We rode in the boat and one of my river rat friends took us on his pontoon boat for a swamp tour. Eibar Coa is a wonderful jockey and has ridden in the Derby several times before so he knows the track well. He is one of the few jockeys to ever win 300 races in one year.
It's always dicey when the horse and jockey haven't raced together before, but sometimes you get unexpected magic.

I've got a Constitutional question for one of our legal beagles. Pat Buchanan in talking about "same sex marriage" and the possible Supreme Court nominee was suggesting a possible question as "Do you see a right for marriage for same sex couples in the Constitution?"
Does the Constitution anywhere mention rights of marriage at all? I know there have been court decisions in favor of mixed race marriages, but what Constitutional clause and/or amendment was cited?
I know DOMA limits recognition by the Federal Government and upholds states rights, but does the Constitution itself directly mention marriage. Could the court declare all "marriages" as purely social and declare every pair a civil relationship for governmental purposes such as joint tax returns.

Ivy,
If possible smash it in some form of cloth bag (canvas preferre but pillow case works). You want the smashed ice to be as dry as possible when added to the cup.

Jamie,
It's clear from the Federalist Papers that neither the Constitution itself, nor the Bill of Rights set out to delineate the rights of the people. It is now established law that there is a right of privacy, although not mentioned specifically in the Constitution. The logical extension of this right of privacy is the right to live one's life as one chooses, baring violation of others' rights.
Buchanan's question is specious.

Thanks for the ice pointers Jamie. I can manage that.
I think our bottle of Johnnie Walker red has been sitting opened in the cabinet too long. I don't think it "goes bad," does it? -- I'm sending hubs out to get something up to date anyway. A bunch of other old bottles are now going to the bin too - good day for some spring cleaning.

I think Miss California is using Palin as a role model. We haven't seen the last of her.
Not all states allowed marriage between races at the same time, so it seems this will follow the same path...as ridiculous and meandering as it seems.

If you get ESPN, they are carrying all the under card races at Churchill until the coverage switches to NBC for the contractual coverage of the Derby. The under card is fun, but fair warning, you could get hooked.

Ivy, I've never thrown away booze--it's simply not 'fragile' as is wine or beer. I've had things such as Drambuie and B&B in decanters for years without a problem. And, now I have a bottle of brandy that I know that I opened more than 10-years ago. I expect it to be as good now as it was then.
If you have a lot of odd bottles of whisky of the same type, like bourbon or something similar, consider consolidating the stuff in one bottle and using it for mixing something like whisky sours rather than throwing it away.

Flatus --
Well, it's comforting to know nothing I sampled will poison me. The Johnnie Walker Red is still here, and hubs rescued two bottles of his tawny port from my clutches. The Harveys Bristol cream bottle is an exquisite cobalt blue, so I'm keeping the empty for my blue bottle collection. The rest of it was too suspect for my comfort level or taste, so it is outta here. If something has a "film" on top of it, or or chunky floaters at the bottom, it's a goner for me.

Julien Leparoux is an excellent and consistent rider particularly on wet tracks, he just brought in Accredit for me in the sixth race.
As someone said, they are playing Musical saddles today. With the favorite out, the his jock Garret Gomez changed and then several riders cascaded to different mounts. Poor low man on the totem poll, the wonderful Joe Talamo (19 year old wunderkind) is now out of what would have been his first Derby and his big move from west coast major star to national status.

I went to 'Art in the Park" today. Lots of people there selling their arts and crafts. I was especially impressed by this painter who was there. He was painting beautiful landscape paintings, mostly water scenes. I ended up buying one his paintings. I took a picture of it and I posted it on my blog.

I've had a hard time understanding what Miss California (not a bright bulb, to be sure) initially said that even Obama hasn't said. That she's against same sex marriage. True, she is a moron, but how is what was originally said so drastically different from Obama's position?
(Not taking into account the idiocy that followed ie: her parading onto television shows, and also Perez-Puke calling her a bitch and saying he should have used the "c-word.")
