Dropping mothballs down the hole might help evict it, although one reader reported that the armadillo just threw the mothballs back out. If that doesn’t work, you could always try a rag soaked in vinegar or ammonia (anything with a mild form of ammonia, like Windex, should be enough to do the trick — if it smells bad to you, it ought to smell absolutely awful to an armadillo).
" The Florida armadillo population, for example, was the result of a few animals released from a small zoo in 1924, combined with several more that escaped from a traveling circus in 1936. "

Thanks for posting the link of Hillary on CSPAN the other day.I have watched a good deal of it and Hillary just shines BRILLIANTLY!! This youtube video is something Warren was discussing the other day...
here is a song about a lonely Armadillo named Arnold. As sung by the Texas Trailhands. I don't know the author of this particular song.
Arnold was an armadillo, in oh so in need of romance
That is chanced one Saturday evening Arnold went out to a dance.
The moment he walked in the room, he saw her as if he had known
She'd be there by the side of the stage, all he wanted, all in black, all alone.
She was there she was his dress to kill-o
If only his glasses where cleaner.
He was an armadillo she was a concertina.
He struggled to make conversation, he leap frogged from topic to topic
If only she'd say something back, if only he wasn't myopic
Bright silver buttons in rows, from head down to toes in black leather
Could this beauty love him here goes, poor Arnold thought its now or never.
He could picture her head on his pillow
He loved her the moment he'd seen her
He was an armadillo she was a concertina.
You can't help but feel for the lad-o, how happy poor Arnold would be
If he could make love in the shadows and no one but no one could see.
Alas what he thought might have been-o, a sweet secret was soured completely
Sex with a concertina is rarely accomplished discreetly.
The dancer stopped stripping the willow
Oh what a loud misdemeanor
He was an armadillo she was a concertina.
Picture love as a kind of concerto, poor Arnold his first was unfinished.
What let everyone who was there know, was a very loud C sharp diminished
Somebody said "Hey look its Arnold", and he ran from there scorn and their laughter
Into the darkness outside and never returned ever after.
Tales of lost love and dreams unfulfill-o
Cruel cupid you've never been meaner.
He was an armadillo she was a concertina.
He was an armadillo she was a concertina.
Craig,
Thank you! Those ducks just made my day. How many babies are there. (looks like 10?) Is that a pool they're in. (if so, I'm assuming the chlorine doesn't bother them?)
Carol,
I'm sorry to hear about your corn plants. I have many of the same problems here. This (link below) is what I ordered so I at least have a chance to get the seeds growing (I hope it works). It just arrived today. The one I got was the 6 foot Buffet Buster. I figure I'll use it over and over, if I'm successful, I'll grow other things too. Carol, I'll send you half my seeds, if you decide to try again. Let me know if you want them chloe at doubt.com http://www.goestores.com/catalog.aspx?storename=premierstarcompany&DeptID=219701&ItemID=9546193&detail=1
Oh and Solar, My not planting today should be good news for you. You have an extra day of growth. We built a small boxed area right next to the house (full sun) to keep a heavy rain from washing it all away (should we have one). Now I just have to figure out how to put together this net (then hope the birds, dogs or anyone or anything else doesn't tear it apart). http://www.goestores.com/catalog.aspx?storename=premierstarcompany&DeptID=219701&ItemID=9546193&detail=1
Jamie- Wow, that would really be something if Craig were to do that. II don't understand the ins and outs of twitter. I see on your blog Clair McCaskill as well John McCain's daughter. Did Claire twitter that or did you twitter to Claire?
I tweeted both Claire and Meaghan. Whether or not they will notice in the mountain of tweets they both receive is always open to conjecture, but I'll check my direct tweets later to see if either responded.
Don't know if anyone saw this already, but there is a waterboard sean hannity for charity website.
Below is link to a post about the Hannity waterboarding offer he made and following that is a link to the website where you can email if your interested in seeing Sean waterboarded.
Justme - I also welcome you. After you post a few times, it will become all too easy. You'll probably have trouble shutting up just as I do.
Ct - you are really cracking me up these days!
I haven't planted my corn yet, since I'm still pondering where to plant them. I think I'll put them in a little bit of land in our parking area that's reserved for gardening.
Here the weather is conducive to healthy plant life till Thanksgiving sometimes so I have now worries about that. I just want to do it right.
In order to drink some champagne, we had a birthday party last night. It was quite nice and I heard at least one really good dirty joke, too. We laughed a lot - it's good for you.
My sister, her daughter and son-in-law and his mother have atrip to Baja planned in a few weeks - Gene's mom went to England several years ago with us, and she is screamingly delightful. this should be a great trip for them, but I'm worried Ginny might be put off by the flu problem.
As the news folk go all "Danger Bill Robinson" about the flu, maybe someone should remind them of the Hong Kong flu which resulted in 750,000 deaths worldwide (34,000 people in the United States) during the two years (1968-1969) that it was active.
Even with that many deaths, It was still the least lethal pandemic in the 20th century.
Since it was the last time I had the flu in my life, I do remember it rather vividly.
Call me a wet blanket, but as much as I love ducks and ducklings, I can't help thinking about the disease aspect of all that. It seems to me that that water can't be fit for swimming in.
Also, if any ducks have the least bit of contact with hunters shotguns, can't they have lead pellets on them which could fall in the water? Or have the lead pellets been totally outlawed?
That was great to see hrc make pence look like a clown, but she could have gone one further and reminded him that the smiling politicians are trying to keep those boots on the ground safer by stopping fighting. If those pols do nothing but sneer at each other, it doesn't look good for the folk in the line of fire on the round.
This seemed more like a performance review than a hearing.
Justme,
I missed your comment in the early morn until Bethy just mentioned it. That variation on Bethy's recipe sounds very good.
Jamie, That's a long time to go without getting the flu. I assume you get flu shots every year? I've been getting them for the last seven or eight years, usually in October. Texas is a bad flu state, and the last time I got it (the year before I started getting the shots), it was truly miserable and very hard to recuperate. I'll never miss that flu shot in the future, because of that memory.
"Tests confirmed that eight New York City schoolchildren had a type A influenza virus that was likely to be the swine flu, the city's health commissioner said. Kansas state health officials confirmed two cases of swine flu, CNN reported, adding to the original eight cases in the United States." http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSTRE53N22820090425
I didn't have another flu shot until three years ago. My doctor got really demanding so I had one to shut him up. It took a massive pandemic and two children under the age of five in the house being deseased to give me the darn thing. Germs and viruses experience abject terror and run screaming away from my immune system. :-)

What a hoot, It's right there with Jack posting pictures of his mail box ...... empty and waiting. Mail is still a lot of fun ........ if fun things come in it.
I guess the Hopi's knew what they were doing. They were teaching me a lesson. I watched my stepfather put all his money and months of long hours into his farming and then watch it destroyed with some horrible weather condition.
The Hopi's wanted me to have that experience. I put a good half a day, and sacrificed most of my muscles getting the little roto tiller working again after two years of total neglect. Then I put a good hour in finding my dry erase board at Wally World to make my sign.
I spent another good three hours digging and preparing the garden from raw grass land. Anyone without hyperthyroidism would have needed at least a week to do that.
Then there was the watering and red peppering and worrying. After all that.....poof it was all gone in a couple of chomps, 14 to be exact, from some unidentified critter. Fame and fortune down the drain. I will just have to find another way to make a living. Oh I already do. I just have 4 days off. I still have a job. Whew.
and Stuge, if you write the music I think we can make a good Country and Western song out of that story. Patsi can probably find someone who will sing it for us.

Some how I missed what happen , but I still have seeds ... and there's still weeks let to plant.
In fact , I sent you & EVERYBODY ..... an invite to post on the site, Log in, and post the story there. Tell us what happened, it's a result from the "Experiment" , but post it over there for the record. Other there it's a "Result" here it's just chatter.
Hello there, Bob. As you no doubt suspect, I am John . I hide out from this weird world in a cottage in NW Georgia on the eastern brow of Lookout Mountain.
Accidentally ran across your titillating offer, to wit: Send me your address, and I'll mail you 15 seeds Of Hopi Blue Dent hard corn.
Wonderful! I'd be most honored to be included in your Blue Corn Experiment. As a matter of fact I was offered an area in a neighbors .7 ac garden spot but declined since I had nothing I was interested in planting/tending. Strange how quickly things change.
Thank you for your thoughtfulness, Bob. I'll give you a full report with jpg's when the time comes.
John
PS - Just talked to my neighbor, Dan , and he too would like to join the experiment. He accepted four long rows from our mutual farmer friend up the road, and they are about finished planting. If you have 15 more seeds, send them to me to save postage, and Dan and I will plant together. If not, I'll share mine with them.
CT -
Corp failure comes in the fall, until then everything is possible. I got more seeds, and there's lots of time left for you . Those Yankee Farmers , now their window is pretty small. I want to see them guarding these seeds with shot guns and hammers.
I did that article awhile back and still have the picture up on the side bar linked to your site. He could be anyone who happened to pass by and wondered if there were any seeds left. He sounds like a neat person though.
How nice of Helen to send greetings. Do you have a publication date and any stops on a book tour set as yet. Need to gather trailmixers when you finally hit the trail.
Jamie- My mother (who was just the other day on an anti twitter rant) and my father are having lots of fun with updates on your twitter activitie. You've done the impossible and made her a fan.
Let me pile on with something more than a 7 word post . Old Sea was right , you are a force of nature, or bandwidth at the very least. In fact that's better , plenty of forces of nature.
I think I remember a flu in 57'-58' that I had. Otherwise I'm not sure I ever had flu. What I always go was sinus infections since I smoked and drank. I now get the shots,
I have to say tho that, from the descriptions people give me of flu, those are the kinds of things I'm not always aware of - think I just feel crummy. If I don't have a fever, I don't tend to realize I'm sick. that's kinda sick, huh?

I love your ducks! Reminded me of traffic screeching to a halt on all ten lanes of the Gandy Blvd to allow momma duck and her brood to cross.

Cute ducks Craig. And speaking of birds I have noticed some reports over the last two years that migratory disruptions related to drifting magnetic poles have been observed, particularly in South America.
So I thought some might find this interesting.
http://blog.wired.com/wiredscience/2009/04/2012storms.html
I have brought up the issue of magnetic dangers for more than two decades in conversations with friends and bloggers (last five years). I tried to bring this up on Earth Day, but I guess because mitigation here is hard to imagine, it is not a very interesting topic. Still, as we learn more, these serious events will be related to climate change.
I remember asking my science teacher in college if the large numbers of chromosomes in plants could be related to radiation selection pressure over time. He said that was an interesting idea, but presently there was little data.
I suspect that the human gene pool also harbors individuals that are more radiation resistant. I sure hope disaster won't be when we find this out.

here is a song about a lonely Armadillo named Arnold.

Carol,
I'm sorry to hear about your corn plants. Let me know if you want them chloe at doubt.com

Posted by: bethyboo
| April 25, 2009 9:28 PM

I didn't have another flu shot until three years ago. My doctor got really demanding so I had one to shut him up. It took a massive pandemic and two children under the age of five in the house being deseased to give me the darn thing. Germs and viruses experience abject terror and run screaming away from my immune system. :-)

Whew.

Here's an email I got tonight :
