I guess the Eastern Time Zoners have packed it in. It's almost getting there for us Centrals. We'll have to turn it over to those Mountain folks and the Pacifics, such as Bethy. Your clock is still running, right Bethy?

He is talking with that brain trust Michael Steele. Who is critiquing Obama's foreign policy. Aside from the fact that Mike is out of his depth, he say that Obama should not be overseas saying America is arrogant - and then in the next breath he comments on the "arrogance" of the Administration.

These two get in a rapid partisan rant, jumping all over each other to take another dig at - "the other side". Idiots.

  39. One of the most intriguing things about the memos is what is missing from them.

If you look at the tops of them you'll see a 'stickied-out' area adjacent to the 'Top Secret'. That's where the 'code name' for the compartmented program was. In other words, a word or short phrase assigning the area above Top Secret that these particular memos would belong to.

No one would be able to see these documents unless they were formally read into that particular compartment. The fact that a specific code name exists for a specific compartment is in itself classified. That's why, once you go behind the green door, it's impolite asking, 'hey, watcha reading?'.

The list of those individuals is what I would like to see.

Although it's probably more information than the average commenter might want to see, there is a book by William Arkin that goes into fascinating detail on code names and related areas. Here it is:
    http://www.amazon.com/Code-Names-Deciphering-Military-Operations/dp/1586420836

Read the customer reviews--they'll give you a flavor for the book and the emotional reactions it caused.

  49. Will Americans Turn Inward? (Study The 1970s)
"If you think the national mood is low now, go back to 1973-76. Gas prices doubled in 1973. Stocks fell 48% between January 1973 and December 1974. The American vice president, Spiro Agnew, resigned in disgrace in November 1973. President Richard Nixon followed in August 1974. Saigon collapsed in April 1975 after U.S. armed forces withdrew from a war they were not permitted to win.

There are some notable differences, of course: House speculation, poorly understood credit derivatives, crazy leverage, bad accounting rules and lax SEC enforcement created today's woes. In the 1970s, it was oil shocks, inflation, tax bracket creep and a growing welfare state. Those differences aside, we seem to have wound up in the same place."

Chloe, I love the rain as well and I'm a Pisces, but I want to get my corn in the ground and it is still frozen in my back yard. The chances of getting the son and grandson out there to try to turn over the ground are located in the ever guilty intersection of slim and none.

I may have to start the seeds in Jan's greenhouse. She wanted some seeds anyway, so we can share.

  53. Jamie, I've wanted a green house for a long time. That's what I'd do, if I had one.

I'm having problems planting here too, for different reasons. We've built a box for planting, but the cats think it's their own person play area and are digging. So now I need a higher fence, and keeping cats out is next to impossible (not to mention deer, snakes, gophers, etc). But we have a long growing season here, so I still have time to get them going, and I will.

  56. Chloe...my hubby is recovering quickly from the surgery...a few rough days, but we will know in about eight months if the surgery was a success (when he gets a follow-up CT scan). The insurance company is predictably sending several patient responsibility claims on precedures for so called pre-existing conditions. The bills are just piling-up. You got to really love insurance companies and the hospitals. However, bottom line, is the cancer gone? We sure think so.

  57. Chloe,

We keep our main garden netted. The critters don't intrude; they go on to easier pickings in our flower beds and the neighbors' yards.

Have you considered making a 'sacrificial' garden of things the critters love? Perhaps that would give 'your' real garden some relief.

And then, there're always shotguns. :)

I love your other ideas though! What would be good to grow in a sacrificial garden. Cat nip?

I really hate that horse nettle we have out here. It grows faster than I could possibly control too. Is that the kind you're talking about?

Posted by: chloe Author Profile Page | April 18, 2009 10:05 AM

  60. "..bottom line, is the cancer gone? We sure think so."

    That's all that matters Blonde.

Keep resubmitting those bills to the insurance companies. Two or three times, if necessary. And you have to keep calling them and making demands. From what I've seen, they have a system of denial, but if you bug them enough, eventually they'll just pay most of them. It's worth it, even for the ones that are a small amount.

Posted by: chloe Author Profile Page | April 18, 2009 10:10 AM

  61. "Cat nip?"

Chloe, that crossed my mind. I suppose I would try that along with whatever seems to be especially attractive to them. You might even try putting in some herbs for your own consumption like thyme, oregano, sage and basil, etc..

You'll probably go broke unless you plant it from seed.

Posted by: Flatus Author Profile Page | April 18, 2009 10:12 AM

  62. Flatus, I'll do it!

And I will use seed. Anything grows here, and without much fuss (or so it seems). The mix of good soil, lots of humidity and sunshine, plenty of rain, and heaven knows what else, must work. The only thing I wish didn't grow so fast, are the insects. But you learn to live with it.

    Thanks for the ideas!

There was an AM radio station with that call sign also. The radio station is still on the air as a talk radio blow torch. Still has the WBAP call letters.

  75. Max

Here are the reasons that I don't think that Iran is such a clear and present danger,,to either Israel or the U.S.,,and we don't need to make the same mistake we did in Iraq,,,,,not the right kind of intelligence,,,and not understanding that part of the world.

Tony Blair and Bush perverted intelligence,,information that was available to support unsubstantiated claims,,,,,So does Iran provide a genuine threat or is it still more of a danger to itself,,,they now know how to weaponize Uranium,,,that's a fact now,,,Iran now has about 50,000 plus,,fast spinning centrifuges and the improved IR-2.. This in theory is sufficient for a Nuclear weapons program, but this in itself does not mean that it can produce a workable weapon to reach the level that they need,, problems remain immense. So they probably would need the help from their Allies,,Pakistan, N. K. Russia etc.,,,that, as we all know is building a nuclear plant for Iran and is near completion.

Also what I found out is that an effective trigger to fire the weapon (detonate) must still be manufactured and tested no?? How can they do that,,,test it without us knowing about it ,,,we knew about N. K.,,,and it would need to be a small type,,in order to create a weapon capable of being deployed in the war head . The ones that they have for the long range missiles,,, are now available , or carried under the wings of the old jet aircraft they they have.
Even then, further and lengthy testing would certainly be required to ensure that any WMD that might be fired at Israel or any of Iran's Arab neighbors such as Saudi Arabia, would indeed explode or that the missiles used were accurate enough to actually hit their target areas. The consequences of using nuclear weapons ,an attack on Israel, They would get back a radioactive fallout (back to them) by the winds,,,would carry it back across the Palestinian controlled West Bank Jordan, Syira,Iraq, Kuwait..The oil field of Saudi Arabia, and much of the oil fields of Iran itself. But the biggest consequence IMO would be Israel's immediate nuclear response, a total destruction of Irans Military Bases???

Tehrans military, economic , and civilian infrastructure would be devastated,50% of it's entire population would be dead,,and that's not even taking into account what we would do,,our response to those who attacked our allies, that country would not exist anymore???we would blow it up!!,,,and the immense fall out from out nuclear retaliation would also effect, much of Pakistan, India, and Iraq, it would be catastrophic,,,for the innocents,,of those countries, how many,, hundreds of millions would die??,,,,,,So nuclear weapons in my opinion is a false hope for the Iranian people,,having a nuclear weapon ,will not give I ran a greater Military power,,like the leadership thinks it would,,,they couldn't use it anyway (this point should be pushed by us and all concerned no/) That country would be an uninhabitable wasteland HA!,,,so having that type of weapon actually works against Iran's own interest!!! Same goes for N. K. ,,,they may be nuts,,but they are not crazy,,,so unless they (Iran) all want to commit suicide,,they won't be using a nuclear weapon.

What we all should worry about it that Iran should sell the nuclear knowledge ,,the technology, and weapons grade materials,,to places like Syria,Hezbullah, and worst of all Alqueda,,but with modern forensic techniques,,they would have (Iran) the same problem,,we could trace it back to them,,,and the same outcome for Iran=destruction. Iran is also aware that we know where their factories of wmd's are,,,spread out all over the place,,,Israel,,bombed Iraq in 81,,and Syria in 07,,,so once again,,,,since they are so spread out the civilians would be the ones dying,,,,but they better get it straight,,,,Israel and the U. S. won't go past 2010 at the latest,,,,,whatever we ,,,or Israel decide to do in the long run,,having nuclear weapons won't be a benefit to the Mullahs,,in using them would just bring the total destruction of Iran!!

    Colorado Bob,

Rance puked on me this AM. I was laying in bed and all of a sudden he let loose. Kinda disturbing. He looks fine now and is outside laying in his chair.

Here in the MetroMess we got rain but not nearly what you guys did. There was some hail, maybe dime sized, lots of lightening and thunder. For that yesterday, I had a Blue Heeler strapped to my hip.

    Dooty,

I assume Rance is your dog.

Anytime one of my dogs pukes, they just need a dewormer. Usually Pyrantel Pamaote works. It takes effect almost immediately, but must be done again in three weeks.

  84. C-bob, My corn at the house is up, 2- 3 inches high. I caught a rain last weekend, almost immediately after I planted it and I planted it 3" deep to keep it from washing away. It wasn't up yesterday and after the 3" rain we had last night, it is up. I got a pic I will send you later.

We have a lot more rain heading our way now and hope it doesn't contain any haa ill. Still hoping the creek don't rise too high or I will have to evacuate the fish bowl tree house for higher ground. Camp is high but road is not.

  86. Chloe,
Yes, ma'am, Rance is my dog and chief of security here at Casa Horsedooty. He is a Blue Heeler/Australian Shepard.
They call them Texas Heelers. Here is a link to see what these dogs look like. Rance looks a lot like Sugar on page 2 (you have to scroll down to see Sugar). He has much more Blue Meryl in his coloring. click here

Rance's puke this am was very watery. No color at all, very clear. Was like he just had a drink of water and then spit it on me. He is pretty playful but I don't think that is in his book of tricks yet.

  87. Blonde,

I wouldn't dispute the instruction you received to be persistent with the insurance company, but if they're denying a claim because of pre-existing conditions the first question should be whether your husband was covered by another insurance carrier prior to the company that's denying your claim.

Insurance regulations vary from state to state, but federal HIPAA laws could help your husband if he hasn't had a "significant" break in coverage (more than 62 days) in the past two years or so. The previous carrier must provide you with a certificate of prior coverage, which would list the effective dates of coverage and who was covered. There may also be other defenses, but if this fits your situation, it's your best one.

I always take puking seriously, in dogs and cats, although it is easily taken care of. Sometimes they just puke water, but in my experience with several dogs over quite a few years, it's 'always' been worms. I actually like to worm them once a month, but if not, just when they show symptoms. You can watch to see if it happens again, but if it were me, I'd just pick up a wormer. That Pyrantel is a very safe one, and has been very effective. So safe, I use it on cats too, just a smaller amount. You need to know their approximate weight.

    Senor Dooty,

It looked odd to see a western station with "W" call letters instead of K so naturally I had to find out why.

It was decided that east of the Mississippi would get W and west of the Mississippi would get K, but in in 1914 this was amended so that the Pacific coast would get W for ships and K for land stations, the Atlantic and gulf coasts would get K for ships and W for land stations, and the Great Lakes would get W for everything.

Also, quite naturally, this was the work of bureaucrats.

    Jamie,

It is an oddity to have a W west of the Mississippi. The radio started its first broadcast in 1922 and then in about '48 or so the TV station came into existence. This was the first Texas TV station.

There is a radio station in Dallas that has the call letters of WFAA. They are approx the same age. Also in San Antonio there is a radio station WAOI.

here is the Wiki page for WBAP link

Carol, no worry about calling me Hoot. I have been called much worse.

  120. patd,

was just trying to set the record straight. I am a little touchy today what with Gov Good Hair Perry threatening to take Texas out of the Union and all. Everyone in the area is wondering if the Fort Worth Star Telegram will survive this transition. The paper is a profitable one but it is owned by the McClatchy newspaper giant and they are under some duress due to a huge amount of debt. They are really robbing the resources of the Star Telegram. They have cut the papers physical size down to save some money spent on paper and then they have cut down on the content . Then after laying off a ton of people they raised the purchase price out of the machines to a dollar. I won't pay a dollar for that anymore. The Dallas paper is having trouble also. They have started to share reports from each other to save having to cover every event in the area. Sports is the place they have started this.

sorry did not mean to run off on a tangent like that.

  129. Solar-keeping it brief:

Iranian military industrial complex goes to great pains wiping the fingerprints off their hardware. They seek to even assemble and manufacture viariants in various places. Care to tell me where and how they obtained carbon based centrifuges that now accerate their enrichment? Since we don't know all the enrichment facilities in North Korea, Iran and Syria, most experts rather doubt we will trace the next attack back to sender. Hugo is planning use for his uranium fields. North Korea is restarting their programs and who knows if their other ones ever stopped.

Drones are everywhere, the signature of Iranian and North Korean enriched uranium is unknown. There are likely neutron warheads in Pakistan we don't have the signature of either. We don't know what pathogens or nerve agents Iran is creating. There is very little international justice able to stand up to pirates of drug lords. Iran/North Korea know they must plan a rapid breakout when the time comes. Obama will have to explain at a later date how his first 100 days anticipated the next 100 days.

    As for Saberi http://www.rr.com/home/home/article/9000/7486897/US_deeply_disappointed_as_Iran_convicts_reporter

I was rather saddened by the fondness Obama showed towards Hugo. It came weeks after outrage over the uncalled for bow to Saudi King. What next? Roses for Ahmadinejad? More and more observers see adversaries on the fast track of filling our withdrawal. Lebanon, Egypt, Yemen, Jordan and even Turkey are extremist targets. False Flag operations will try an pull India into conflict with Pakistan operations targeting Western China and Russian interests.

    http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/story.aspx?id=NEWEN20090091132

Now even if this is posturing we have Gates and Israel on a collision course. It may be said that signs point towards the shift in US policy is making matters worse.

No doubt Iran is increasing operations hoping to exploit the corner the administration has backed into. There only threat left is the IDF and our counting on Obama, who they hailed as the American Gorby, to stop them. Show Israel one plausible solution that doesn't put them in even greater danger bound by a credible system of verification. North Korea should have taught Obama the pathetic limitations of present international justice enforcement. How can he tell Israel to do nothing to obstruct efforts to incinerate or gas them into oblivion? Would Iran ever launch such horrors at Israel? Having them makes retaliation harder and having them leads to difficult if not impossible to trace weapons for an extended proxy base.

I loved that song. I left a link to Wild Thing for you, but I should have linked one that was just music and less of the movie.

  142. Sr Fish,

Bill Mack was a longtime DJ at WBAP . He is probably the show you heard. He had the "US1 Trucking Show" on after midnight. Interestingly, Bill Mack is the songwriter that wrote the song "Blue" that LeAnn Rimes had her biggest hit on. He currently has a show on XM 171 satellite radio.

  143. Solar, don't need a swimming pool, have one 1/ 1/2 miles down the road at the house. I can't even keep up with that one. I want to bury it. I just needed to be around water and now I have it. at the camp. Scorpios need water.

  144. The song Wild Thing that was made most famous by the Troggs was written by Chip Taylor. Now for the weird part:

From the Wiki page: "Chip Taylor (born January 1, 1940 in New York City) is the stage name of American songwriter James Wesley Voight noted for writing the song, "Wild Thing". Taylor's brothers are actor Jon Voight and geologist Barry Voight. He is the uncle of actors Angelina Jolie and James Haven.

  149. Solar I get enough exercise just keeping the pool clean and it really hasn't seen totally clean in a while. It is a chore when you have the trees that I have at my house and I am a tree hugger so no taking them down.

I have a 200 year old live oak with some of it's branches about 10 feet away and a yard full of 5-6 story pine trees. All the leaves that fall off those trees are programmed to dive right into the pool and I can't afford one of those fancy enclosures Tony has.

  153. Solar, Yes, Moonstruck. First time I ever recall seeing Nicolas Cage. I liked it a lot to. And Overboard was a good one too. I think that was the one where Kurt Russell and Goldy Hawn first got together (and the rest is history). Also, Helen Hunt and Jack Nicholson in 'As Good As it Gets'. The best of them all, imo.

    Carol --

One of my dogs is 'fraid of thunder and the new puppy is picking it up. I had a professional dog trainer here this week who gave me a do-this-but-don't-do-that tip for thunder boomers. Do give them treats during the storm, but don't cuddle or pick them up. Cuddling tells them to keep acting afraid. Giving treats is the old Pavlov's dog method. It won't be long before they look forward to storms. Thunder-Yes-Treat, Thunder-Yes-Treat. I'll be giving it a try during our next storm.

    Craig,

Intensedebate offers threaded comments which are a nice feature. Since you can reply directly to a comment and have it "thread" underneath, then you don't have to copy the shortcut to the original.

  187. I was really troubled when I heard that news re: Israel-Iran - especially since Fox broke it like the strike was in the air... It is no news that Israel is ready to strike. They have been ready since they took out Iran's operation the last time.

But I agree Solar - I don't see much good that comes from war. I think we should spend more time seeking to resolve these age-old - yet immature conflicts we have all over the world - as opposed to wondering about Obama's most recent salutation. (Or repeating the incessant talking point - that he is "over there apologizing")

Obama is a natural on the world stage. That was one of his strengths as a candidate. (And don't think for a second he isn't using his political capital to advance our interests in ways that don't always make the news. He is patient and persistent - we saw that on the campaign trial.)

We have elected a statesman when the world needs a leader to bring nations together to solve the major issues of the day.

  188. The earliest known example of a deliberate ceremonial burial was conducted by Neanderthals: one hundred thousand years ago a young man was buried in central Asia. Russian archaeologists discovered his remains surrounded by pairs of goat horns. Another Neanderthal skeleton was excavated at Le Moustier in France, a site dated to some seventy-five thousand years ago. This burial had also been subject to funeral ritual. The dead man was covered with red ochre , his head lay on a mound of flints, and the burned bones of cattle were scattered around him. Later burials dating approximately sixty thousand years ago were found in a large cave in Shanidar in Iraq. One individual was laid down upon a layer of flowers, all with medicinal possibilities. Some thirty-six other ceremonial burials have been found in Europe and Asia over the succeeding millennia. We can be reasonably confident that the Far World has been of concern for tens of thousands of years---at the very least.

Habitat is building 7or8 blocks over.
They have vastly improved their houses in the last few years.
They used to be 3 small bedrooms on a slab, no garage. Now the have a basement and a garage.

When they were discussing coming into the neighborhood 7 or 8 years ago we were very sceptical. After all if you can't sell your house then you are not really a home owner. A lot of the houses they were building at the time the only way to get out from under them was to just walk away.

I know what you mean, my grandmother used to say nothing in the ground in Michigan till the 30th of May.I would try sneaking in my Impatience and Tomatoes but the ground was usually so cold that they really didn't grow.I think I just was always longing for summer and I was just trying to hurry it along...I miss Michigan sometimes though especially my "Better Made"barbecue potato chips,Detroit's finest...Oh Carol now those are some good chips!! Lime chips..oh no... :+)

I am thrilled to hear of your success with Maggie. We haven't had any storms since my trainer was here, but I can't wait to try it...see, now I too am saying Thunder-Yes-Treat-Thunder-Yes-Treat...bring it on!

  209. Yes Tony! Susan Boyle is amazing! What a beautiful voice.
I'm keeping Emma tonight, and she is doing great.
I've seen those sectionals with the built in lounge and they look so comfortable. Ha Tony, you even sound too busy on your 'easy' days.

Tony, That view I was talking about is heavenly to me, because I love trees and nature, and it's so green. It's the second story, so I get a view of the tree tops as far as I can see (and I mean a 'lot' of trees). I can spot some of my pets and many birds from there too. It's my favorite place to be when I'm on the computer.

Ivy, I remember when the story originally hit the newspapers, and then the documentary was incredible with the real women. I never saw the musical but those actresses walked off with Tonys. Lange and Barrymore truly captured the Edies and to do it over the whole span of years was a marvel. Diva was watching as well ... same impression.

The costumes and the period detail were so accurate. The makeup and the acting were amazing. The only thing I think they slightly missed was failing to completely capture the grandeur of the Bouvier lifestyle which serves to make their descent into chaos all the more tragic. The imagery with the "wedding jewels" at the beginning and the end was meant to frame that, but it slightly missed the mark.

In fact, the branch of the Bouviers that bore the family name had already started living beyond its actual means with Jackie Kennedy's grandfather. The really rich ones were the Drexel cousins in Philadelphia.

  215. Hi, all.

Nice to see you here, dooty. Thanks for the great link to those darlin' doggies.

Ct. - when it's midnight on the east coast, it's 9 pm here. My last post here last night was @ 11:42 edt, and that's 8:42 here. I turned my computer offat about 11:30 here because there was nothing else to respond to. That was after 2am edt.

I think it has something to do with some clocks' settings somewhere.

Carol - you have become downright zany and it's great! I'm very jealous of all the rain you guys are getting because I love storms. I love living vicariously in your camp - it would have to be vicarious, tho, because I'd probably be miserable. I may have told you all that since I retired my mantra is comfort and I;m stickin' to it. The bugs and having to climb around etc - I'm too un-used to it!

St Louis has K and W radio and tv signs as well - why not? It's on the borderline?

It's been a lot of fun listening to you guys tonight. Tony, you haven't been speaking up often, it seems.

I loved the movie though it made me sad. There is a haunting scene in the decrepit garden -- Tripplehorn-as-Jackie is confronted by Barrymore-as-Edie with rage and jealousy that she (Edie) should have been First Lady. In dull pain, Jackie replies, "I wish it had been you, Edie, I really do."

In this installment, we meet Orion Clemens, Samuel's brother, on September 8, 1861, on a cross-country wagon trip...
"Thursday, Aug. 1. . . . About midnight, at a station we stopped at to change horses, a dispute arose between our conductor and four drivers who were at the Station. The conductor came to me for a pistol, but before I could hand it to him, one of the men came up and commenced cursing him. Another then came up and knocked the conductor down, cutting a bad gash in his upper lip, and telling him he would have killed him then if he had had his boots on, and would have killed him then if he reported him. I had not heard the fuss before the pistol was called for, and supposed it was for the Indians, who, it was said, would be dangerous along this part of the road. The four drivers were drunk."

I had a young black man in my office charged with having sex with a student. He was doing some substitute teaching. He told me his story and yes, they are all innocent, but my internal lie detector told me he was telling the truth.

He said a student who he wouldn't do something she requested charged him with having sex with her. He did get a no true bill but that came with high lawyer expenses and ruin to his reputation for good.

If I worked with young people these days there would always be a reliable witness present, no matter the sex of the student. That is sad.

  290. I must apologize.

I don't read my magazines sometimes for months after they arrive. Belatedly, I just came across this fascinating read from the April 13th issue of the New Yorker:
    http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2009/04/13/090413fa_fact_lepore

It's all about Americans going bust. About debtors prisons. About non-existing bankruptcy laws. About rich people decorating 'their' quarters in the gaols. About society's waxing and waning largess in the treatment of debtors depending on economic cycles.

    It is really most interesting.

So, I apologize if folks have difficulty in reading the whole piece online.

  294. There's also the issue of hacking. One time during the Elian Gonzales mess, I had posted on a message board that I thought he should go with his father...within a few days of that argument getting started, several of us who took that position were invaded by hackers or someone sending viruses that put porn on our desktops. I had to take my computer in and get it "purged."

I asked my son, the tech person in the family, if it would be possible for someone to implant images that we'd never know about unless investigated. He said of course it could be done.

  296. a comment on a website:

True story: I remembered seeing a HB rum batter recipe in "The Kenneth Roberts Reader" when I was a kid. Years later, though I used the Trader Vic's batter like everyone else, I scorned it as bogus, and kept trying to find a copy of that book, figuring that Roberts's recipe was the genuine Old New England article. Then, hooray! I found the book! Opened it up, found the recipe, and read approximately this: "There are many recipes for hot buttered rum batter; this one was given to me by my old friend Victor 'Trader Vic' Bergeron..."

  297. ct,

I'm over-simplifying this because it's all I know, but the "chanter" is the thing the piper plays. They can play a chanter without blowing up the bags, and as I understand it, successful pipers learn to play the chanter before ever going near actual bagpips.

A guy at work is an accomplished piper, and the chanter I saw that he was taking to a practice session reminded me of the recorders my kids used in 5th or 6th grade.

The fellow at work would probably use three or four pages to give you a real answer to your question, but he does that with the answer to every question. This guy knows everything about everything, but wouldn't know Babe Ruth from Kobe Bryant.

  298. Sturg, the comments to the chowhound recipe were interesting, too. I seem to remember one recipe that had the preparer plunging a red hot fireplace poker into the mix to heat it.

But, like an increasing number of things, that may simply be a figment of my imagination. If that's the case, then the concoction should be known as 'figmented hot buttered rum'.

I should think so if they have a competent computer forensics person.

Really, everyone should take the basic precaution of using two programs.

The first is Spyware Blaster. It passively blocks all kinds of nefarious sites that are harmful or sick.

The second is Spybot Search & Destroy. It goes through all the files in your computer looking for stuff that rotten apples may have concealed in files that a person thought were harmless. It gives the individual the opportunity to purge them and to keep them from returning. It requires a little more moxie from the user than the first program, but is worth the trouble.

In any case, folks should take the time to read the narratives that come with the types of programs I recommend.

Here are a couple of links to them:
    http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/

Both are absolutely free for home use.

Solar, I like both James and Mary, even though I agree more often with him than her. I think they are both very intelligent, basically decent people trying to stay afloat in a very tough business. She seems to be fighting too hard against aging, but that may be the price women in media pay to get "face time"

    Patsi,

That is an outrageous story. Unfortunately, it demonstrates the root cause of anything you have too much of has little to no value. All of those children are throwaways. They simply have no economic value if they aren't working and even then only if what they bring in is more than they cost.

In a sparse, rural economy every child in the family, the more the better, from virtually toddler on up has a value towards survival of the family.

In an overcrowded, urban economy, children contribute little to nothing to the family other than the money they can raise, and if they are bought, sold, abused or killed barely stirs the sociological condition.

Females always have less value in overcrowded conditions because who needs another baby maker.
