100 Days By The Numbers

| | Comments (168)

Public confidence in Barack Obama as a person mark tomorrow's 100th day of his presidency. While the headline numbers show clear majorities approving his job performance, what is most likely to sustain Obama is how many citizens personally like him -- even Republicans who might not agree with the Democratic president.

Fully 73% of Americans -- including a surprising 46% of Republicans -- hold a favorable view of Obama as a person, according to Pew Research Center pollsters. Significantly fewer held favorable impressions of George W. Bush (61%) and Bill Clinton (60%) early in their first years.

Despite so many problems and lots of hard choices to make that polarize the country, there appears to be something assuring about Obama's measured, unflappable and thoughtful approach that is so far giving Americans nearly unprecedented confidence in the stewardship of a new president.

    3. I like President Obama. In this first 100 days, I am most impressed by Rahm Emanuel's standing up to Benyamin Netanyahu...who would have ever thought that would happen?
I don't know much of a shove Obama gave to Rahm to stand up to Netanyahu, but it must have been accompanied by a kick in the rear.
Thumbs up for a job well done these first 100 days.

Here's some background about Jamie, we both learned this stuff in parallel, two orchards that Mr. Crawford planted several seasons ago.
I made the "Windy Cow" on her site get "Windyer" .
I love that cow. If my guess is right, she's still pulling the bandwidth off my site to run it.

Anyway, the nuts and bolts were a big thing with me. Jamie , she was just interested in telling her tales well. And showing them well. Jamie learns , she learns from everyone.

    12. I encourage all to view the Craig's "Lazy Man's Guide" to Barbecuing Chicken.

While I grill chicken breasts for my wife, I grill chicken thighs for myself...always have been dark meat lover...raised , I was, knawing on chicken drumsticks cooked by my mom and grandmothers.
I like the small red "new potatoes" , too...boiled just right...can't be beat.
Once a friend and i went half & half on a butchered lamb .
I took some of my lamb shanks and some other cuts and attempted to grill them. The fat just cascaded out of that meat so fast it nearly put out the charcoal fire, and made way too much smoke... grilling fatty cuts of lamb makes one hell of a clean-up mess, too....

I was out of washer fluid, and I could not see out the windshield. My rear view mirrors looked like they were growing hair from all the fly bodies stuck on them.

( South of where the 84 cuts in. ) it's on the west side of the road. It's maybe 10 feet across . You stand on a brass disk , and out from your feet are brass lines pointing to every volcano from Mount Shasta to Mount St Helens. Almost 180 degrees of from left to right. Just south & west of where you're standing are the 3 Sisters , or just the Sisters.

Carol - I LOVED that pix of your camp! How absolutely amazing. It is so much more than I was picturing it, and to think it is on a river.

Carol - also I don't long for the old white clothes days at all. I'd just like to know who the nurses are since absolutely everyone wears a stethoscope. If nothing else those starched white things must have impeded movement.

Was with the boys today as they played with their doctor kit. Liam, 2 yo. went to his big brother Alex, 5 yo, and cut his baby out of his belly. Alex thought it was hysterically funny and made sure Liam knew where to cut with his blunt blue plastic scissors. The Liam cut my baby out of me.

Not really what I ever expected, but they were having a ball, since all three of those boys came out that way.

    73. ct, glad the nurse is on duty. was wondering now that tick season is upon us, will health care folks be able to distinguish the early stage lyme victims from the swine and nonswine flu folks? and would they normally think to look for lyme as a cause when someone presents the standard headache, fever symptoms?
could be bad situation if misdiagnosed and mistreated couldn't it since lyme is treated with highdose antibiotics and flu by anti-virals.

    77. You know I was thinking about that flu business yesterday and in the last month at work I had two young dudes in their 20s, never sick before, who had pneumonia. Pretty sick. Very weird I thought. Seems like there were a lot more colds, aches and pains also for this time of year.

Pat most of my guys and girls don't get out much to run into ticks. They do come in everyday with "spider" bites though. They are actually MRSA, very common in a prison. I tell them I live with a lot more spiders than I ever see in jail and I don't have any of those boils.

Seroiusly, some good ideas there.

The column about Prez Obama looking weak was just ridiculous GOP spin. It's wonderful to have someone in office who doesn't go shootin' his mouth off & picking the wrong fights to fight.

Having said that, he did give the orders to shoot the pirates, and that sent the message that he is willing to use more than words to deal with sitiuations.

    90. wikipedia:

he term "Fifth Estate" has no fixed meaning, but is used to describe any class or group in society other than the clergy (First Estate), the nobility (Second Estate), the commoners (Third Estate), and the press (Fourth Estate).[1] It has been used to describe trade unions, the poor, and organized crime. It can also be used to describe media outlets that see themselves in opposition to mainstream ("Fourth Estate") media. The term is entirely different in origin and meaning from "Fifth Column", which is used to describe subversive or insurgent elements in a society.

Nimmo and Combs assert that political pundits constitute a Fifth Estate. Media researcher Stephen D. Cooper argues that bloggers are the Fifth Estate. The American periodical Broadcasting once proudly proclaimed itself to be "The Fifth Estate" on its cover.

"The brown recluse spider is native to the United States from the southern Midwest south to the Gulf of Mexico; it has not been recorded from Canada. The native range lies roughly south of a line from southeastern Nebraska through southern Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana to southwestern Ohio. In the southern states, it is native from central Texas to western Georgia. They are generally not found west of the Rocky Mountains."

    158. Yes we have the brown recluse down here. Usually you have to be working in a dark, long undisturbed place to run into them. Wood pile. They can lead to death. The bite looks different. There is a wide necrotic area around the bite, it rots out leaving a large hole that usually doesn't heal without plastic surgery.

What many people think is a "spider" or brown recluse bite is usually just a nasty boil, usually MRSA. They can get huge overnight. It can leave a pretty big crater but will heal, even though it may take time without plastic surgery.

Working in a jail or prison makes you a MRSA/boil expert pretty fast.

Posted by: ct Author Profile Page | April 28, 2009 1:36 PM

    159. My former son in law was probably killed by one. They had taken possession of an old couch in a place they rented. Daughter and grandaughter had bite, went to doctor and were very sore. Son in law hated doctors, immune system completely collapsed and a recluse bite was the main suspect. It wasn't a great time 20 years ago.

      Posted by: jamie44.myopenid.com Author Profile Page | April 28, 2009 1:53 PM

    160. Realize that a boil can kill you also, especially if you are immune deficient. The boil turns into a cellulitis then sepsis, then if not treated, dead. These things, usually limited to jails/prisons/war places are now found in school gyms and workout gyms and anywhere.

Posted by: ct Author Profile Page | April 28, 2009 2:03 PM

    161. Consumer beware that I have seen many medical practitioners who don't know how to properly treat these boils, the MRSA ones. They use the wrong antibiotics.
