Eye on Newt

|

newt_gingrich_cpac.jpgThere was a time when conservatives turned against Newt Gingrich. Hard core right wingers in the House rallied against him in 1998, helping end his career as Speaker of the House.

No more.

Desperate for a way out of the wilderness, the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington gave Gingrich a triumphant welcome on Friday as he entered the hall to the song "Eye of The Tiger," shaking hands along the aisle en route to the podium where he made his speech. (For more, see Rachel Kapochunas, CQ Politics.)

"Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg, and howlet's wing,--
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble."
-- Witch, Macbeth (IV, i, 14-15)
