Craig's Miss America Valentine

| | Comments (64)

Craig_Miss_America_2009.jpgShe's the daughter of an Indiana dairy farmer and the first Miss America from her state ever. Katie Stam was our guest at CQ's Coconut Grove party following the recent Washington Press Club Foundation dinner. I was born in Owensboro, Kentucky, just across the river from Indiana, so we had a little something in common. Oh, and her platform is anti-smoking -- I can use the help. Her suggestion: an in-the-ear magnet, a form of acupuncture which is supposed to eradicate the desire to smoke. Sounds good to me. Happy Valentine's Day!

Speaking of moving animal populations :

" "Adapted to cold alpine conditions, pikas are intolerant of high temperatures and can die from overheating when exposed to temperatures as low as 78 degrees Fahrenheit for just a few hours," the center said in a statement.

It added that pika populations have been moving uphill as temperatures warm.

"As temperatures rise, pika populations at lower elevations are being driven to extinction, pushing pikas further upslope until they have nowhere left to go," said Shaye Wolf, a biologist with the center.

More than a third of pika populations in Nevada and Oregon's Great Basin mountains have gone extinct in the past century, the center added, and the rest there are found an average of 900 feet farther upslope. "

I visited Zerosmoke's webpage, and it was riddled with pop-ups and cookies; I had to restart my browser, and that happens very rarely with Firefox. A pox upon your house, Miss America!

Craig, To maintain my reputation for knowing totally useless trivia, there are two major differences between a tiara and a crown. :-)

    1. A tiara is only worn by women while a crown may be worn by either gender

    2. A crown is a full circle and is decorated all the way around while a tiara may be a partial or whole circle but is only decorated in the front.

We have been playing songs for each other around here for years. Did you just notice that they usually aren't labeled and that the song can be a commentary so labeling it up front could spoil the remark?

You're not "spoiling" anything by labeling your links, you're saving bandwidth. The so-called "commentary" is lost to anyone who doesn't click on the link. Poor form.
