    2. Fascinating video. How many other previously solid Republican Congressional seats are likely to fall simply because they had become too entrenched and now there is an opportunity for things to change?

    3. With all the talk of education or lack of it, common man vs. snob, and those the various campaigns are attracting, I posted this link to an old blog article on the back channel

      http://jdurward.blogspot.com/2006/08/whale-sang-opera.html

It seems as if the US is getting very lazy and that education and achievement are not getting the respect they should particularly in an era of global economy. How long has it been since you needed to look up the definition of a word used on TV or in the movies?

    4. As Staten Island goes, so goes the nation! The thing I like best about the vid is it does show just how much of another world SI is. I used to date someone who lived in SI, he was a cop, it always felt so strange going out to his place, such a different world from what I knew here in Manhattan.

    5. Jamie I agree with you about your remark about education, but we shouldn't be surprised, we've lived for over 20 years with that attitude that govt. is bad, and anything govt. is involved in should be shunned on some level, education is just another example of how the country has suffered in the era of Reagan. It's also another example of the cost we've payed for demonizing taxes. How often have we read about ballot initiatives for increased school funding being defeated?

If I was related to Hitler(which I don't think I am, but who really knows), it would not be my choice, but what could I do about it? A good conspiracy theory has threads of connection that goes beyond the cosmic prankster.

      "Bad Press

I agree with Glenn that the New York Times story about the McCains really is pretty bad. There are two ways to think about something like this, whether it fits in with the press's usual standards for these things and what those standards should be. As Glenn says, given the treatment of the Clintons by the NYT it apparently does fit within the standards they've set for themselves, but those standards have gotten pretty low.

One thing will be probably be different for this story probably Unlike such stories about the Clintons, this one won't drive cable news coverage for a week. More than that it'll probably be largely condemned and used to accuse the NYT of that evil librul bias."

    40. THE ANSWER -

I am not a demographic that Barack needs to pander to and would be difficult to change.

So they did the research - found some values and numbers that made sense and could be political marketing material...

Then Barack and co went on a simple message that is not consistant and helps him hide his liberal self.

But if he really keeps the CHANGE going and you think you can trust his words - afterall he as to stop his change some time,,, then vote for him

Any of your charitable contributions to your community are tax deductible. Obama wasn't going to take that away from you. You certainly won't be penalized for donating your time. Barack and big Government? Oh my no way...

Hope that either Barack really does change - or that the American People figure out the FUNDAMENTALS of Capitalism / Free Enterprise - when not disrupted by Government policy as in the Housing crap - are the answer - Not an Obama of Big Government

On the other hand, SurveyUSA has yet to show Obama with a lead in Florida all year, so this may not be as newsworthy as it seems at first glance.

    74. Oh please pong, spare me lines like "when you allow social policy to overrule sound fiscal policy?" It's your party that has engaged in unsound fiscal policy for the last 50 years. Every major recession except for one since the second world war has happened with your party was in charge, not mine. It's your party that runs up deficits not mine, and it's your party not mine that has almost bankrupted the country. Considering what you people have to done to the country's balance sheet over the last 8 year you have a lot of nerve lecturing anyone on fiscal policy. And it's your party that redistributes wealth, you steal from the poor to give to the rich.

McCain = Policy that creates incentives, that does not see corp America as Evil, That still protects the 40 some percent that pay nothing,,, That is more honest about his position

And yes it is bad policy - and the pretend republicans that did run up the bills along with the Dems. Bush traded out for something - and now look back and all he did was complacent and allow this social policy to overule sound fiscal policy - which is by fact what Barack is selling

This doesn't necessarily mean we fit the caricature of the "undecided voter" often derided as either lazy or unthinking. It means instead that we find the entire campaign--the debates, the commercials, the press coverage--counterproductive to making a decision.

.........So who will I and the other Americans like me vote for? I'm not sure: I can only say that the choice will likely have little to do with specific tax proposals or subsidy programs, and much more to do with the ways in which we see ourselves as citizens and voters."

24 hours ago, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann announced that all those who disagree with her are "Anti-American." Since then, the outpouring of support for my campaign has been extraordinary. Since Congresswoman Bachmann's outrageous remarks, my campaign has raised $438,346.57, and we're working to reach $500,000 by 5 p.m. today. Congresswoman Bachmann's extreme ideology divides people, but her comments on MSNBC's Hardball have united all of those who believe that I will jump start the ecomomy on Main Street by creating jobs and rebuilding our infrastructure. DCCC Poll Shows Bachmann Kissed up to Bush Too Many Times

Tinklenberg Holds Bachmann to 4 point lead; Her Approval Ratings Plummet

Last Friday, Minnesota Public Radio reported that the National Republican Congressional Committee planned to pull its television ads in Minnesota's third congressional district to defend Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann in Minnesota's sixth congressional district. They did so with good reason if their polling at all matches a poll the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee released today showing Bachmann with only 42 percent of the vote to Elwyn Tinklenberg's 38 percent, and 15 percent are undecided. Elwyn Tinklenberg has won the endorsements of both the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party and the powerful Independence Party of Minnesota. The poll was conducted by Grove Insight, from October 10 thru 12, of 400 people with 4.9 margin of error.

The four point spread in the race comes after the Alliance for a Better Minnesota television began running a television ad highlighting Michele Bachmann's close ties to President Bush including her infamous kiss at last year's State of the Union address. According to the DCCC's poll, President Bush's approval rating in the district is at an abysmal 18 percent and Bachmann herself isn't fairing much better with only 34 percent. Additionally, 82 percent of respondents said that the country is "off on the wrong track."

Status quo for now. I live in a suburb of Montreal and by unanimous decision, we all decided NO lawn signs, years ago. No big rallies, no campaign buttons, we just go out and vote (although, this was a verrrry boring election and our turnout was lowest in history: 59.1%)

But I am only 40 miles from DC and most of my neighbors commute to and from DC or NoVa everyday -- however -- they are mostly former military, FBI, DEA, Secret Service. You would think that most of these people vote GOP. Hmmm... today I dropped off the last of 15 Obama lawns signs that I picked up on Wednesday. Where did the signs go? On the front lawns of law enforcement people, retired military people, Homeland Security people, an IRS executive, a plumber (real one) and building contractor, a child care provider, a school social worker, a small business owner (automotive mechanic), a senior citizen retiree, a stay at home mom married to active duty deployed Marine (both planning to vote for Obama.)

There is a flaw in the system -- NO check of a person's credentials to determine if the Constitutional requirements are met. I know that is hard to believe, but it is fact. Never been a situation like this. SoetorObama (what is his legal name?) has a very complex past -- multiple citizenships at the same time, etc. He is withholding documents for a reason.

      1) The documents contain very damaging info. They could reveal new info or contradict previously released info (like that on the COLBs that have been posted on three web sites).

      2) The documents don't exist. Such as:

A certified copy of Obama’s Certification of Citizenship.

A certified copy of Obama’s Oath of Allegiance taken upon age of majority.

Certified copies of any Court Orders or legal documents changing Obama’s name from Barry Soetoro to Barack Hussein Obama.

    150. AnonP - I just now caught your response to me. I understand your point there, but this guy who shot up the church is crazy. I can't really consider him as a conservative even tho he obviously spouted the party dogma. I don't see conservatives as naturally crazy, tho some might be, as some liberals might be crazy.

Conservatives believe in property, such as buildings, cars, bank accounts, airplanes - anything solid and real to them. I'm not criticizing them because I also own property (altho not much) and don't want to see it destroyed - most of us here do.

It's just that slavish love of property causes an im-balance in decison-making, and that's why I say conservatives won't start a revolution for political reasons. Religious reasons might be different, but I doubt it here in this country.

The more balance we have in this country, the more stable we will be, and that's why I'm a liberal - I hate the lack of balance of opportunities that the have/have not situation creates.

Everyone should have a chance to own property and the ones who don't live an imbalanced life, and it's not fair. I want that balanced, and that includes conservatives having a share inrunning the country.
      That's all. they won't start a revolution.

I wonder if anybody here read The Name of the Rose - I truly enjoyed that book. It furnished me with much food for thought.

    151. Then why aren't the Rep. using that info? I all sounds good, but GORDO, you have to remember that ANYONE can write ANYTHING. That dosen't nessisarly make it true. It's okay to not like Obama for whatever reason, but as McCain himself said, you don't need to be afraid of him. Like I said earlier, you want to be careful about who you are REALLY working for. Do you think you are changing minds with your rather ah...extreme views, or just making sure nobody will listen to you when you might have a really relevent piece of information?

    153. Gordo,

It doesn't matter where he went or what he was called after he was born. You cannot renounce another person's citizenship for them no matter what the adults around a minor do. Another country may have considered him a citizen. That does not deprive him of his rights as a US Citizen. He is the one and only person who can do that. Born in Hawaii. Over the age of 35. He is legal to be President and nothing you and the conspiracy cuckoos can change that.
