    2. Fascinating video. How many other previously solid Republican Congressional seats are likely to fall simply because they had become too entrenched and now there is an opportunity for things to change?

    3. With all the talk of education or lack of it, common man vs. snob, and those the various campaigns are attracting, I posted this link to an old blog article on the back channel

      http://jdurward.blogspot.com/2006/08/whale-sang-opera.html

It seems as if the US is getting very lazy and that education and achievement are not getting the respect they should particularly in an era of global economy. How long has it been since you needed to look up the definition of a word used on TV or in the movies?

    9. Honestly, Gordo, I love a good conspiracy theory as much as anyone, but some of this is grasping at straws. If I was related to Hitler(which I don't think I am, but who really knows), it would not be my choice, but what could I do about it? A good conspiracy theory has threads of connection that goes beyond the cosmic prankster.

      "Bad Press

I agree with Glenn that the New York Times story about the McCains really is pretty bad. There are two ways to think about something like this, whether it fits in with the press's usual standards for these things and what those standards should be. As Glenn says, given the treatment of the Clintons by the NYT it apparently does fit within the standards they've set for themselves, but those standards have gotten pretty low.

One thing will be probably be different for this story probably Unlike such stories about the Clintons, this one won't drive cable news coverage for a week. More than that it'll probably be largely condemned and used to accuse the NYT of that evil librul bias."

    30. THE ANSWER -

I am not a demographic that Barack needs to pander to and would be difficult to change.

So they did the research - found some values and numbers that made sense and could be political marketing material...

Then Barack and co went on a simple message that is not consistant and helps him hide his liberal self.

But if he really keeps the CHANGE going and you think you can trust his words - afterall he as to stop his change some time,,, then vote for him

Any of your charitable contributions to your community are tax deductible. Obama wasn't going to take that away from you. You certainly won't be penalized for donating your time. Were you planning to hire and pay for the people who do not have the time or money to do the same so that taxes didn't have to cover their services for when you can't be around?

Barack and big Government? Oh my no way...

    33. At the state level, we have some interesting numbers on both sides. SurveyUSA is the first pollster in a couple weeks to give McCain in Florida; they have him ahead there 49-47. On the other hand, SurveyUSA has yet to show Obama with a lead in Florida all year, so this may not be as newsworthy as it seems at first glance.

    71. Torn Between Obama and McCain

"I suspect that there are many voters like me, in this city and around the country, wavering in their choice for president. This doesn't necessarily mean we fit the caricature of the "undecided voter" often derided as either lazy or unthinking. It means instead that we find the entire campaign--the debates, the commercials, the press coverage--counterproductive to making a decision.

.........So who will I and the other Americans like me vote for? I'm not sure: I can only say that the choice will likely have little to do with specific tax proposals or subsidy programs, and much more to do with the ways in which we see ourselves as citizens and voters."

    77. UPDATE with fundraising numbers:

24 hours ago, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann announced that all those who disagree with her are "Anti-American." Since then, the outpouring of support for my campaign has been extraordinary. Since Congresswoman Bachmann's outrageous remarks, my campaign has raised $438,346.57, and we're working to reach $500,000 by 5 p.m. today. Congresswoman Bachmann's extreme ideology divides people, but her comments on MSNBC's Hardball have united all of those who believe that I will jump start the ecomomy on Main Street by creating jobs and rebuilding our infrastructure. As a Minister and Mayor, I brought people together. I believe that we build by addition, not division. I want to thank you all. It is now clear that we have the momentum to win and I ask for your financial support. I will keep everyone posted.

DCCC Poll Shows Bachmann Kissed up to Bush Too Many Times

Tinklenberg Holds Bachmann to 4 point lead; Her Approval Ratings Plummet

Last Friday, Minnesota Public Radio reported that the National Republican Congressional Committee planned to pull its television ads in Minnesota's third congressional district to defend Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann in Minnesota's sixth congressional district. They did so with good reason if their polling at all matches a poll the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee released today showing Bachmann with only 42 percent of the vote to Elwyn Tinklenberg's 38 percent, and 15 percent are undecided. Elwyn Tinklenberg has won the endorsements of both the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party and the powerful Independence Party of Minnesota. The poll was conducted by Grove Insight, from October 10 thru 12, of 400 people with 4.9 margin of error.

The four point spread in the race comes after the Alliance for a Better Minnesota television began running a television ad highlighting Michele Bachmann's close ties to President Bush including her infamous kiss at last year's State of the Union address. According to the DCCC's poll, President Bush's approval rating in the district is at an abysmal 18 percent and Bachmann herself isn't fairing much better with only 34 percent. Additionally, 82 percent of respondents said that the country is "off on the wrong track."

We did have an election on Tuesday, perhaps people were too slow to get those signs off their lawns? Anyway, Conservatives won another minority government, we're no farther ahead or behind. Status quo for now. I live in a suburb of Montreal and by unanimous decision, we all decided NO lawn signs, years ago. No big rallies, no campaign buttons, we just go out and vote (although, this was a verrrry boring election and our turnout was lowest in history: 59.1%)

If SoetorObama doesn't have anything to hide -- why is he hiding documents that prove he meets the Constitutional requirements for POTUS? You know why. Most likely, his legal name has been Barry Soretoro for the past 40+ years. When he returned to Hawaii from Indonesia (where he almost certainly had citizenship), unless the proper procedures were followed -- he doesn't even have "naturalized" status. In that case, he is an "illegal" alien.

Hey Rez -- I think I still live in the "real Virginia." I am so close to Quantico I can hear the 50 calibers from my front yard. But I am only 40 miles from DC and most of my neighbors commute to and from DC or NoVa everyday -- however -- they are mostly former military, FBI, DEA, Secret Service. You would think that most of these people vote GOP. Hmmm... today I dropped off the last of 15 Obama lawns signs that I picked up on Wednesday. Where did the signs go? On the front lawns of law enforcement people, retired military people, Homeland Security people, an IRS executive, a plumber (real one) and building contractor, a child care provider, a school social worker, a small business owner (automotive mechanic), a senior citizen retiree, a stay at home mom married to active duty deployed Marine (both planning to vote for Obama.)

There is a flaw in the system -- NO check of a person's credentials to determine if the Constitutional requirements are met. I know that is hard to believe, but it is fact. Never been a situation like this. SoetorObama (what is his legal name?) has a very complex past -- multiple citizenships at the same time, etc. He is withholding documents for a reason.

      1) The documents contain very damaging info. They could reveal new info or contradict previously released info (like that on the COLBs that have been posted on three web sites).

      2) The documents don't exist. Such as:

A certified copy of Obama’s Certification of Citizenship.

A certified copy of Obama’s Oath of Allegiance taken upon age of majority.

Certified copies of any Court Orders or legal documents changing Obama’s name from Barry Soetoro to Barack Hussein Obama.

    113. AnonP - I just now caught your response to me. I understand your point there, but this guy who shot up the church is crazy. I can't really consider him as a conservative even tho he obviously spouted the party dogma. I don't see conservatives as naturally crazy, tho some might be, as some liberals might be crazy.

Conservatives believe in property, such as buildings, cars, bank accounts, airplanes - anything solid and real to them. I'm not criticizing them because I also own property (altho not much) and don't want to see it destroyed - most of us here do.

It's just that slavish love of property causes an im-balance in decison-making, and that's why I say conservatives won't start a revolution for political reasons. Religious reasons might be different, but I doubt it here in this country.

The more balance we have in this country, the more stable we will be, and that's why I'm a liberal - I hate the lack of balance of opportunities that the have/have not situation creates.

Everyone should have a chance to own property and the ones who don't live an imbalanced life, and it's not fair. I want that balanced, and that includes conservatives having a share inrunning the country.
      That's all. they won't start a revolution.

I wonder if anybody here read The Name of the Rose - I truly enjoyed that book. It furnished me with much food for thought.

    114. Then why aren't the Rep. using that info? I all sounds good, but GORDO, you have to remember that ANYONE can write ANYTHING. That dosen't nessisarly make it true. It's okay to not like Obama for whatever reason, but as McCain himself said, you don't need to be afraid of him. Like I said earlier, you want to be careful about who you are REALLY working for. Do you think you are changing minds with your rather ah...extreme views, or just making sure nobody will listen to you when you might have a really relevent piece of information?

Posted by: rosiethecat Author Profile Page | October 18, 2008 8:51 PM

    115. Gordo,

It doesn't matter where he went or what he was called after he was born. You cannot renounce another person's citizenship for them no matter what the adults around a minor do. Another country may have considered him a citizen. That does not deprive him of his rights as a US Citizen. He is the one and only person who can do that. Born in Hawaii. Over the age of 35. He is legal to be President and nothing you and the conspiracy cuckoos can change that.

They are the Republican Base that McCain\Palin campaign and the RNC are inciting to violence against a sitting Senator and Presidential Candidate.

These are also the same people that Ping is proud in following the support of McCain\Palin.

Watch the video at the link below and hear what the Republican Base says.

      http://www.boomantribune.com/story/2008/10/18/104048/48

If anything happens to Senator Obama rest assured that America will become the next Iraq. Why do I think that will happen.

When the people take to the street Ping's dictator will declare Martial Law and put troops on the streets. When that happens War will break out.

Kent State will be the result and Blood will be spilled once again on American soil making the Civil War look like a board game.

I bet that there will be no place on Earth, Heaven or Hell that Republicans will be able to hide if that happens.

The McCain\Palin campaign and those who have been pushing the Hate and Fear Mongering for the RNC and the Fascist Takeover of Our Country will be consumed in the Fire Storm that they started.

Along with the rest of Our Country.

    154. Okay, here is a story from work. About 5-6 years ago I worked with a black woman named Venice. Venice was from Chicago. A nice, married woman. I got along with her pretty well. She and I were working next to each other one night at work. We had just got back from break and she was eating some crackers. She saw me looking at her as she was eating her crackers. She turned to me and asked, "Would you like a cracker?" I asked her, "What did you call me?!" Her reaction was priceless! She said, "Oh no, no! It ain't nothin' like that! I asked you if you WANTED a cracker!" The other people we worked with showed up and wondered why we were laughing so hard. I told them what happened and they all started laughing with us. We must have laughed for about 10 minutes over that.

    155. One possibility is "gimcrack corn," cheap corn whiskey; another related theory is that it refers to "cracking" open a jug of corn whisky; another is that "crack-corn" is related to the (still-current) slang "cracker" for a rural Southern white.[9] Another interpretation is that "crack corn" came from the old English term "crack," meaning gossip, and that "cracking corn" was a traditional Shenandoah expression for "sitting around chitchatting."[10] Yet another, and possibly the most popular, is that the chorus refers to an overseer who, without the master, has only his bullwhip to keep the slaves in line. Most etymologists support the first interpretation, as the term "cracker" appears to predate "corncracking", and "whipcracker" has no historical backing.[11] This suggests that the chorus means the slaves are making whiskey and celebrating.

I just found this interesting explanation. It would tie it to cracking, as in telling a joke or telling a wordplay joke on some one. As in cracking on someone or cracking a joke.

      http://www.word-detective.com/100699.html

"There are theories tracing "cracker" to the crack of a slavemaster's whip, or to "corncracker" (slang for country folk, who presumably ate a lot of corn). But the actual source is almost certainly the much older slang sense of "to crack" meaning "to boast or brag," first seen around 1460, and its derivative "cracker," meaning "braggart," which appeared around 1509. The earliest use of "cracker" used in the "poor white" sense discovered so far bears out the connection. In a letter written to the Earl of Dartmouth in 1766, an observer named Gavin Cochrane, referring to bands of outlaws operating at that time in the Southern U.S., noted: "I should explain to your Lordship what is meant by crackers; a name they have got from being great boasters; they are a lawless set of rascalls on the frontiers of Virginia, Maryland, the Carolinas and Georgia, who often change their places of abode." "

    171. Here are two links about Bush threatening Martial Law if the congress would not pass his Socialist bailout of his Corporate pals.

      From the first link:
According to numerous Congressional testimonies, the stark panic atmosphere which has gripped both Congress and the US media was intentionally created in order to 'fast-track' a financial bailout bill. Several members of Congress were told before Monday's vote that martial law might be instigated in America if the legislation failed.

During his speaking time on Thurs, Congressman Sherman stated explicitly, "Many of us were told in private conversations, that if we didn't pass this bill on Monday, the sky would fall, the market would drop two or three thousand points, another couple thousand the second day, and a few members were even told that there would be Martial Law in America if we voted no(to the bail out bill)."

Earlier this week, Congressman Michael C. Burgess from the 26th District of Texas, went public on Monday stating live on Infowars nationwide radio broadcast, that House speaker Nancy Pelosi had declared House Rule 136A, effectively putting the House under "Martial Law" rules, a dictatorial measure only activated during times of national emergency.

      http://www.opednews.com/articles/Representatives-Were-Threa-by-Patrick-Henningsen-081004-301.html

      From the second link:
Background: the First Brigade of the Third Infantry Division, three to four thousand soldiers, has been deployed in the United States as of October 1. Their stated mission is the form of crowd control they practiced in Iraq, subduing "unruly individuals," and the management of a national emergency. I am in Seattle and heard from the brother of one of the soldiers that they are engaged in exercises now. Amy Goodman reported that an Army spokesperson confirmed that they will have access to lethal and non lethal crowd control technologies and tanks.

George Bush struck down Posse Comitatus, thus making it legal for military to patrol the U.S. He has also legally established that in the "War on Terror," the U.S. is at war around the globe and thus the whole world is a battlefield. Thus the U.S. is also a battlefield.

      http://www.alternet.org/rights/101958/thousands_of_troops_are_deployed_on_u.s._streets_ready_to_carry_out_%22crowd_control%22/

Also do not forget that under the MCA of 2006 he has the power to label anyone, yes anyone including American Citizens as Enemy Combatants, arrest, detain forever and confiscate all there belongings and property as well under another power given him by the RFN's and some Democrats.

Now why would the Republicans and Bush want to give a Democrat the power to hold them all accountable for their Crimes Against Humanity, War Crimes and Treason for outing a NOC and endangering Our National Security?

America will be the next Kent State if the American People don't wake up and smell the coffee.

    178. Things are going good, The home owner is happy with the progress and I'm still on schedule. We did expand it a little the first day. It was easier to strip off the old plaster and sheet rock then it was to repair the plaster. I told the owner up front that there was a good chance of that. It does make it easier to rewire it and modernize the electrical circuits.

The fun part is the unlevel floors. At some time the house had a back porch, the kitchen was expanded into the porch. the old kitchen floor is as level as can be expected in a 100 yr old house. The porch floor is a different story It is about an inch and half out of level in 6 ft. I've got a major hump in the middle of my sink base. So I went over today and played with them while nobody was around to bother me. Shim 3/4 here 1/2 there and I think I have them looking great even if they aren't. The base trim will cover everything.

While you and I can spot the flaws all the home owner will be looking is the shiney new tile countertop and fancy backsplash.

A theoretically mammoth wave of racism, incessantly anticipated by the press, could materialize in voting booths on Nov. 4. Or newly registered young and black voters could fail to show up. 198. Powell should have resigned when Bush started passing the Iraq Kool Aid.

    199. Powell said it was the negative tone of the campaign that pushed him to Obama and he still thinks going to Iraq was the right thing to do...AND it would have been better if the surge were earlier. Sounds like he still supports the Shrubian/McCain Eyerack policy

you over simplfy and need to connect the economic dots.
Ummm I wonder who pays the majority of the tax already?
Ummm How can Barack give 90 something percent a tax decrease when almost 50% already pay nothing?

Sadly extreme elements of the right have not asked the correct questions and allowing these spin and half truth statements of Barack to carry the day....

and sadly Blone - you feel for his failed math.

      But still time -

Ping...typical republican chant, I believe I have a better understanding of the difference between arithmetic, math, financial theory and bullshit than our current regime. Your numbers are incorrect and I correctly stated that the current financial crisis is more physical than political. Too many rich people at the top...

As I stated the repugs are getting hysterical about wealth redistribution. What is wrong with putting the money back in America? What about the cost of the Iraq war? It has enriched Blackwater and Haliburton. How much do they pay in taxes?

Once you release yourself from the republican talking points, Ping, it will set your free.

    202. "towhead" - a person with light blond hair. This is based on the hair's resemblance to "tow" which is coarse or broken flax prepared for spinning (Wiki, et al).
