Make Bush McCain's October Surprise

| | Comments (276)

Watching Will Ferrell as George W. Bush on "Saturday Night Live" made me yearn for the real president on the road. His absence from the partisan political scene has left Ferrell's mocking sketch as the freshest impression we have of Bush in campaign mode.

Putting Bush on the campaign trail could be John McCain's final Hail Mary pass. The Republican nominee has done so little to distance himself from his party's president that he is stuck with him anyway. He's damned either way in the polls, with or without Bush speaking up for him, so McCain might as well gamble on Bush's campaigning skills among the Republican base.

At approval rates as low as any Gallup survey since Harry Truman left office at 22 percent, Bush is obviously not wanted by Republicans on the campaign trail. GOP running mate Sarah Palin complained in an NBC interview that "we're up against an unpopular president."

But he is an effective campaigner, could still draw friendly crowds -- if carefully selected -- and his knack for glib words on the stump might just do himself and his party a little good in the final days.

Muzzling Bush made it easer for Democrats to demonize him. Leaving their charges unanswered only made it worse for McCain without a strong and consistent effort on his part to stiff arm the president.

Put Bush on the road to fight back, blast the Democrats on taxes and rally the 30-percent niche of voters who still like him. Sure, it might also rally anti-Bush voters, but Republicans are in desperate times requiring desperate measures.

Even if Bush just barely mentions McCain, he might pull some of those wobbly red states back into the GOP column and help get McCain off defense.

Well Bush would not pull the Red in and certainly can not push the Obama already's away - so in this case no harm no foul.

What would his impact be on those that could swing the vote - the undecided.

    Interesting question that drives discussion....

  5. As almost everyone expected, the Berg lawsuit against SoetorObama/DNC was dismissed on grounds that the Philadelphia attorney and former Deputy Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania lacked standing.

SoetorObama is using the legal system to keep his "hidden" past a secret. He refuses to release a certified copy of his birth certificate and other documents to the public. Those documents (or lack of) would prove that he is Constitutionally ineligible for the office of POTUS.

Actually, I see very few political signs or stickers here anyway. I guess since Obama decided TN was a wash, and neither he nor McCain paid much attention, Tennesseans didn't get too excited.

As Yard Sales Boom, Sentiment First Thing to Go

    By PATRICIA LEIGH BROWN
    Published: October 24, 2008

MANTECA, Calif. — As the classified ads put it, everything must go. Socks. Christmas ornaments. Microwave ovens. Three-year-old Marita Duarte’s tricycle was sold by her mother, Beatriz, to a stranger for $3 even as her daughter was riding it.

On Mission Ridge Drive and other avenues, lanes and ways in this formerly booming community, even birthday celebrations must go. “It was no money, no birthday,” said Ms. Duarte, who lost her job as a floral designer two months ago. The family commemorated Marita’s third birthday without presents last week, the occasion marked by a small cake with Cinderella on the vanilla frosting. They will move into a rental apartment next month.

My colleague Nick Kristof weighs in on Scott McClellan’s book, and says:

I think we in the press were indeed too docile in the aftermath of 9/11, although I think that is partly explained by the lack of Democratic Party opposition to White House policies at the time. We in the press tend to cover disputes, and so if Democratic senators had stood up to criticize these policies, we would have done our job better. But when the opposition party has rolled over and there’s no dispute to cover, then the news media’s role becomes more complicated.

My first reaction is, whaddya mean “we”?

By the way, Obama has yet to identify which of the 5 lines he'll use. This is just more class warfare garbage created by the Liberal Left. She replied, 'I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people.' 'Wow - what a worthy goal.' I told her, 'You don't have to wait until you're President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow, pull weeds, and sweep my sidewalks and driveway, and I'll pay you $50. Then I'll take you over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use toward food or a new house.' She thought that over for a few seconds 'cause she's only 6. And while her Mom glared at me, the little girl looked me straight in the eye and asked, "Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50?"

And I said, "Welcome to the Republican Party, sweetheart."

In your dribble about war, you somehow forgot about Afghanistan, and the fact that your boy Obama is going to send our brave military men and women into that hell hole. You supply just more of the same LLIL answers and solutions that are the caused of most of this country's problems. You and the likes of the Barny Franks of the world all come out of the same pea pod. Your answers to problems are always the same, lets throw more money at it, and when that doesn't work let raise taxes so we can throw even more money at the same problem. Lets not fix the root cause of the problem, let make excuses so we can throw tax payer money at the problem, so we can show everyone just how much we care. Symbolism, excuses and fluff over substance, such is the way of LLIL's.

"Obama has his birth certificate on the Obama site since this fake conspiracy came out."

That is NOT a Birth Certificate (BC), what is posted is an altered Certification of Live Birth (COLB). COLBs show only a minimum amount of info. They are issued by Hawaii to people when they need to prove date and place of birth. A BC shows detailed info, such as the birth hospital, etc. (Where are the hospital records? Which hospital - two have been named - which one is it?) What you are seeing on his site and others is a FAKE COLB. A real COLB would have the name Barry Soetoro.

    ======================

Because of Indonesian law, Lolo Soetoro needed to adopt Barry/Barack (what was the name on the original BC?). Indonesia was very strict about that sort of thing. It's almost 100% certain that he was legally adopted.

When he was adopted in Hawaii, his original BC was sealed and a new BC was prepared with the name Barry Soetoro. Did he ever legally change his name to BHO? That's why Berg requested:

Certified copies of any Court Orders or legal documents changing Obama’s name from Barry Soetoro to Barack Hussein Obama.

    ======================

There is no mechanism for checking credentials. Hard to believe, but it's a fact. SoetorObama is using the legal system to hide the TRUTH of his "hidden" past from the American people. If he does not have anything to hide -- let everyone see the BCs and other documents. He doesn't because the documents (or lack of) would PROVE that he does not have the Constitutional requirements for POTUS.

I haven't forgotten about Afghanistan. Bush treated it as an after thought and as a result the place where we should have concentrated our efforts initially has gone south and like Iraq is worse off that when this all started.

After seven years of misapplied force and dismal diplomacy, Osama is the least of our problems. If we woke up tomorrow to learn that he was proven dead, it would make little or no difference to the problems Bush has created in the Middle East.

How dare she say that fruit fly is not worthy to spend money on research. She is a disgrace. She has no idea how the world works. She is not qualify to be vp. Mccain as POTUS only to put US at risk. As you can see how much stress is put on president. From Bill Clinton to GWB, they aged more than 10years after their president. You have that much of faith that mccain will be able to serve 4 years? I can't not even fathom what happen if mccain is not capable to serve as president and leting palin in the driver seat. Voting for mccain is irresponsible and reckless. "It needs to be understood that the crux of the court’s decision was procedural. The judge dismissed Berg’s case due to lack of standing.

The judge could have dismissed this case based on lack of standing weeks ago. By delaying his decision, he has effectively assisted Obama in running out the clock.

    Welcome to justice, American style."

Your problem as I clearly illustrated yesterday, you are part of the LLIL crowd. The, I care more than you crowd. 'I care because I am going to make the so-called rich pay for where you ended up. It is their fault no yours. You after all are the victim."

But taxing the so-called rich is entirely different than taxing the rich and very rich. The rich and very rich don't mind paying taxes, because at the end of the day they'll still be rich. The only person the LLIL hurt are the ones nearing being titled,"so-call rich". LLIL's have to be careful who we allow to accumulate wealth.

According to you, anyone who raises the issues of how the Obama coalition will work together is a Republican. Not much of a welcome for legitimate questions or differences of opinion. The Republicans who have hopped on the Obama bandwagon are there to preserve Republican principles. Which Republcan principles do you agree with? For example, Powell still thinks going to Iraq was correct. Do you?

  81. Anslem- You might want to be a bit more knowledgeable before accusing the Kennedys of being NIMBYS. Nantucket Sound is one of the most beautiful bodies of water on the east coast and the residents of the Cape & Islands have been opposed as it threatens the ecology, fishing , tourism, recreationand public safety. Not to mention - we don't want to look at it. It is a developer-driven wind farm and they have spent a fortune trying to force this upon us. For what? To make money. We already have some of the highest electrical costs in the country- this will increase our costs. A Dutch Corp. recently presented a plan for a deep water farm off the back side of the Vineyard, on barges. No one is opposed to that. It is simply the wrong site and wrong technology. Just because someone is opposed does not mean they are being nimby. By the way, the population here is very integrated and we are the poorest county in the Commonwealth. How you bring race into something like this is beyond comprehension.

  88. Ping,

Although wind power could work to satisfy a significant amount of PR's domestic usage, backup power equaling the amount of wind generated power would be required for those periods the Islands are stuck in the doldrums.

One advantage of being on the mainland is the availability of grid power to handle needs when wind is insufficient.

Perhaps using wind to lift water to high elevation reservoirs for subsequent use in hydroelectric power plants might be a plausible backup source.

    Saturday, October 25, 2008

  106. From TD Blog
    ------------------
Press Release: Berg is Appealing to U.S. Supreme Court

"... Senator Obama’s lack of “qualifications” to serve as President of the United States ...

This is a question of who has standing to uphold our Constitution. If I don’t have standing, if you don’t have standing, if your neighbor doesn’t have standing to question the eligibility of an individual to be President of the United States - the Commander-in-Chief, the most powerful person in the world - then who does?

So, anyone can just claim to be eligible for congress or the presidency without having their legal status, age or citizenship questioned.

According to Judge Surrick, we the people have no right to police the eligibility requirements under the U.S. Constitution."

Thank the gods for the social programs of the 1940s which helped us regain our footing after WW II and the Great Depression. Sorry Ashelm, you are full of it. Funny, Huckabee and Palin are much the same, yet Schuster gets rabid about Palin. Fundie Huck was running for the top of the ticket. His kid wasn't pregnant, but did, in fact, hang a dog and slit its throat. And Huck's wife is a big time hunter. Hmm. Things change...

Governments should have no inter-action with churches, and vice-versa. It's not good for the governments and REALLY not good for the churches.
That's why the puritans came here in the first place - to keep James I out of their church. Just because they were so strict and fundamentalist is no reason to ignore their plight with the church/ government complex at the time.

Am I the only one who remembers the scotus ruling that a church/religion which practices animal sacrifice was considered okay?

Also, how many people are aware of the fact that both W and his father inter-mixed financial aid to third-world countries with a demand that abortions and birth-control aids not be tolerated? I don't remember details but I do know that this particular religious stand has
played a major role in our foreign aid programs.

Sorry, Ping - if your church needs a child care program, it seems to me it should be part of your church's work - get the parishioners more involved - volunteering.
Religion is a private thing, not a public concern. If churches did more of this kind of thing, rather than try to wipe out homsexuality, I'd have more respect for churches. They seem to be doing a better job of fighting poverty, and good for them. The next frontier is taking care of their parishioners themselves and practicing their religion without help from me.

That is in great part why I see much of what was thrown at Palin as gender-based. She's a typical right wing Republican. Huckabee appears to be more socially moderate, but some of his governing actions have been much like Palin's.

As governor, Huckabee shut down the investigation about his son's dog killing -- not much different than troopergate. He had absolutely no experience that would have made him a POTUS, so the experience thing doesn't wash, either. Yet he, as a presidential candidate, was slapped on the back and good-old-boy'd by the media.

I'll give Huck this: he could phony up a good game.

And I don't even want to get into Brownback....why didn't any of the press talk about the push-polling he did in Kansas, the ones about his opponent Jill Docking being a "gasp!" Jew!

All it cost in MO is 25 dollars I've helped form a couple of them. It is easy. What you can't do and shouldn't do, imo, is have money go directly to the church and into church funds.
Whats the big deal about forming a separate entity. If I can do it anyone can. The IRS 501 C3 application is a little bit more difficult but in a church big enough to have a daycare there should be someone that can find their way around in tax jargon.

is the main reason I was against Obama from almost the beginning. I hate the crowd-whipping-up etc very very very much.

However, your second point makes no sense to me. Obama is much more than his "messianic" speeches, and while I'm not sure what that "more" is, I'll take a chance on him before I even think Of McCain and especially Palin.

I didn't finish reading your link because it was saying nothing new. The writer is obviously conservative and overlooks some simple points, i.e. that for every criticism and doubt one can bring up about Obama, one can bring up at least one criticism for McCain and Palin each.

They both have their drawbacks, and McCain has years in which to pile up his stash. To me their drawbacks are deal-breakers, especially Palin's religious convictions. No way - absolutely no way - for me.

Granted, we don't know so many years worth of Obama's drawbacks, but this much I know = with McCain as president, we will have an extreme right wing supreme court, and in my opinion the country will become a plutocracy then. It might even affect Canadians.

The main reason a lot of these programs have to be a government project rather than private organizations is very simple.

We are a nation of 3,537,441 square miles, 50 state entities, and more than 300 million people. Within that context there are amazingly wealthy areas and places so poor as to be unimaginable unless you happen to live there. The only organizations with the capacity to take in and distribute assistance are the feds or the states.

Local groups and charities and some national organizations such as Red Cross can act as stop gaps for short term aid or efficient servicers of needs particular to their specific area, but they can't do the whole job or operate day in day out with any real degree of equity.

Does that leave a lot of room for fraud and abuse? Of course it does. Is there a lot of duplication among various programs? Yes there is. This is where economic conservatives come in. It is their role to observe programs and recommend alterations or combinations to make them more effective and productive, but to think that the "thousand points of light" can take over for the federal government is pie in the sky dreaming.

Approximately 75% Of McInsane voters are for a ban; and about 75% of Obama voters are against the proposition which creates a state constitutional amendment against Gay marriages.

    Solar,
This link has a condensed version of what you're talking about, I think. Although I'm sure it's just the tip of the iceberg.:)

"Every individual is an expression of the whole realm of nature, a unique action of the total universe. This fact is rarely, if ever, experienced by most individuals. Even those who know it to be true in theory do not sense or feel it, but continue to be aware of themselves as isolated "egos" inside bags of skin.

.......The first is not realizing that so-called opposites, such as light and darkness, sound and silence, solid and space, on and off, inside and outside, appearing and disappearing, cause and effect, are poles or aspects of the same thing...."

Palin's 'going rogue,' McCain aide says

"She is a diva. She takes no advice from anyone," said this McCain adviser. "She does not have any relationships of trust with any of us, her family or anyone else.

"Also, she is playing for her own future and sees herself as the next leader of the party. Remember: Divas trust only unto themselves, as they see themselves as the beginning and end of all wisdom."

A Palin associate defended her, saying that she is "not good at process questions" and that her comments on Michigan and the robocalls were answers to process questions.

Posted by: Rezdog Author Profile Page | October 25, 2008 11:18 PM

  263. Patsi,
As with Palin It's always been about the need for the Media to develope the horse race. Obama cashed in on it. Axelrod's not dumb. It's still that way and even more so with 10 days left. Palin tried to cash her chips, she just doesn't/didn't have the personal moxie and team behind her with the sophistication to pull it off. Plus, as someone has pointed out, her tent is too small. My comments about her aren't derogatory on her gender.
imo she's really not in the league with Huckabee and Romney. Only the ditto and slant heads like her

As you said , we'll see.

Posted by: Rezdog Author Profile Page | October 25, 2008 11:41 PM

  264. Rez, she is in the exact same boat as Huck...except her child only got pregnant -- didn't slit a dog's throat. I don't think you mean to see it in gender based terms. I just think you follow the meme.

Posted by: Patsi Author Profile Page | October 25, 2008 11:46 PM

  265. Probably not too different from what you're saying. About the only thing I see in common with those two is, imo, the reality that both can't really go home any more. Huck starts a new career on tv (it will fail). I'm not sure what she'll do. The press says that don't know her in AK anymore, so it's up in the air.
