Bad news for John McCain is not difficult to come by these days, but perhaps the worst news is that Charlie Crist is shying away. Florida's Republican governor delivered his state for McCain in the primaries, but now looks for ways to avoid his party's presidential nominee.
Last week, after traveling with GOP running mate Sarah Palin around the state, Crist skipped a McCain football rally and instead went to Disney World. Crist hardly sounded enthusiastic when asked about his plans for helping McCain. "When I have time to help, I'll try to do that."
While keeping his options open regarding Palin's future role in Republican politics, Crist appears ready to abandon McCain.
Crist is known in Florida for his spot-on instincts. In the final days of his 2006 winning campaign for governor, at the last minute Crist chose to skip President George W. Bush's trip to Florida even though his expected appearance was on the official White House schedule handed out to the traveling press.
Scaring Crist away could be McCain's worst mistake of all.

I think McCain knows it's over and that's why he's toning down the rhetoric. He has to go back to the Senate and work with these people. How many years does he have left in his senate term?

I am so impressed with this Newsweek piece. It's always nice to read an optomistic take on things. Here's one way to look at it.
There Is a Silver Lining
"Amid all the difficulties and hardship that we are about to undergo, I see one silver lining. This crisis has—dramatically, vengefully—forced the United States to confront the bad habits it has developed over the past few decades. If we can kick those habits, today's pain will translate into gains in the long run."
'In the medium and long term, we have to get back to basics. Households, for instance, should save more. Governments should put incentives in place that make such savings more likely. The U.S. government offers enormous incentives to consume (the deduction of mortgage interest being the best example), and it works. We have the biggest houses in the world, the thinnest flat-screen TVs and the most cars. If we were to tax consumption and encourage savings, that would also work. Regulations on credit-card debt should be revised to ensure that people understand the risks and costs of these instruments. Moving in this direction would be good for families and for the government as well."

It's more than a month away though, so there's no need for smug grins or tears of defeat on either side just yet. Gov. Charlie Crist, for one, is confident there's enough time to turn things around (which is probably just his way of saying "Johnny, dump Caribou Barbie like everyone says, and pick me!").

Something to consider. Although the terrorist bombings of innocent civilians are at a 4 year low in Iraq, and that is with the current US military presence and a strengthening of the Maliki government, what will be the likely result if the US leaves Iraq prematurely? Will we, the US, be forced to go back in at a later date only to face a much stronger enemy? Let terror reign and watch the slaughter on TV? Hope the UN will step in and take control? Now try to be objective, and not be so self serving and say well we should have gone there in the first place. We did, and we are. The only candidate who is talking about this scenario is John McCain.

Typical Liberal poppy-cock.. If one questions Obama's association either personal or business, they are tagged a "RACIST". If they point out that Barney Frank's had a live-in relationship with Fannie Mae executive Herb Moses while Frank was on the House Banking Committee, that is gay bashing.
As a gay, I do not see this as "gay bashing" or anything close to it. I find it particularly interesting to see Liberals so squeamish when they have to address gay relationships from their side of the aisle. It is not the gay relationship that is being brought into the conversation, but the appearance of conflict of interest. Liberals have always clung to the argument, "but it is the appearance".

ET not to step on your good mood, but I don't think we should expect too much more of a climb in the polls for Obama at this point. I think the pool of undecided voters is probably drying up. So I'm expecting the polls will start leveling off. The only thing that will cause Obama's numbers to increased markedly at this point if people start deserting McCain, hey it could happen but I'm not counting on it. But hey any win over 5% is a landslide in American politics.

Anselm,
While Franks was involved with Moses, the majority was with Republicans who held all the chairmenships. Franks did not have the power to make policy and many things proposed in the committee died in the full house or in the Senate that wanted nothing to do with regulations.
Once control passed to Republicans, some regulation was able to get through but vetoed by President who wants nothing to do with Regulation.

Now you want to be serious, uh Patsi, about as serious as you were Friday nite to suggest that I would agree with her BIL doing so and condoning slapping his wfe around. sorry not buying today.
Originally we we were commenting about and mocking you about your suggesting it's okay to act vigilantly style; especially being a Governor.
Keep yukking it up Rez, Brian -- at least we know who thinks it's a hoot to taser young boys and slap women around.

I've taken to watching Stephanopoulos on Sunday mornings--haven't even bothered looking at MTP the last couple of weeks. It was a really good program today on the economy.
I also watched Face the Nation. One of the guests was former Gov Wilder. He said John Lewis' accusation that Sen McCain and Gov Palin were just like George Wallace was completely offset by that pathetic woman who tried to tell McCain that Mr Obama was an Arab.
Rep Lewis is simply struggling. Gov Wilder is just another race baiting fool. And, a smug one at that.

Flatus
But it is the "hanging out with terrorists" garbage that Palin has been slinging out that has acted as red meat to attract the racist fools.
McCain had the decency to take the mike away from her, but he didn't gag or fire his VP nominee as she deserved, and his commercials are still black and white sinister warnings of impending doom.

Flatus: "Rep Lewis is simply struggling."
Seems Obama disagrees with that comparison.
Portions of Obama's campaign statement.:
"Senator Obama does not believe that John McCain or his policy criticism is in any way comparable to George Wallace or his segregationist policies."
"But John Lewis was right to condemn some of the hateful rhetoric that John McCain himself personally rebuked just last night, . . "

I get a regular newsletter from a coalition of small business owners in Scotland. Thistle & Broom
http://www.thistleandbroom.com/
This paragraph on their economy is interesting:
After 307 years The Bank of Scotland closed its storied doors during the last fortnight. Weathering every conceivable storm and chapter in Scottish history since its founding on the heels of the failed Darien Scheme and the Company of Scotland efforts and the subsequent Treaty of Union, it makes me at once angry and sad. (Thankfully our accounts are with Royal Bank of Scotland.) The US Congress bailout hasn't settled nerves in the global financial markets, in fact, it only seems to have created a ripple effect of panic. I know you are seriously tightening your own purse strings as a result of this too - believe me we are already seeing this in sales falling off. Within the THISTLE & BROOM family the haemorrhaging is deeply personal - and has the potential to impact the cultural identity and heritage of Scotland in unimagined ways. Gifted and talented people, thoroughly responsible small businesspeople for 30 years or more are now getting calls regularly from their panicked bankers. Some are completely without Christmas orders (so far) so not only is their business in danger, in some cases their home used as collateral for the business is too.

Tonyb39- obviously you don't remember or know what a lecture is, that aside, I see no harm in asking people to take a look at the post about the 10th anniversary of a Matthew Shepard being brutally murder for the no other reason then being gay.
The supporting site talks about trying to eliminate hatred , and encouraging tolerance, and it shows ways to do it on a daily basis.
My post was sincere, sorry you don't agree. Same goes for you Tacky Taco.

After running away from wearing the kilt for decades, more and more men in Scotland are taking it up again if only for formal ocassions, though some are even wearing the business suit version regularly.
It is so comfortable that the guys are glad to get out of their straight jackets and in to something free and easy, with or without trews.

The McCain campaign invited me to visit Frederick and the Gainesville operation on Saturday morning, to get a first-hand glimpse of its ground game in Prince William County, Virginia, a fast-growing area about 30 miles from Washington, D.C.
With so much at stake, and time running short, Frederick did not feel he had the luxury of subtlety. He climbed atop a folding chair to give 30 campaign volunteers who were about to go canvassing door to door their talking points — for instance, the connection between Barack Obama and Osama bin Laden: "Both have friends that bombed the Pentagon," he said. "That is scary." It is also not exactly true — though that distorted reference to Obama's controversial association with William Ayers, a former 60s radical, was enough to get the volunteers stoked. "And he won't salute the flag," one woman added, repeating another myth about Obama. She was quickly topped by a man who called out, "We don't even know where Senator Obama was really born." Actually, we do; it's Hawaii.

Before McCain’s arrival, a minister delivering an invocation said, “There are plenty of people around the world who are praying to their god, be they Hindu, Buddah, or Allah, that (McCain’s) opponent wins. I pray that you step forward and honor your own name.”

Florida Republicans cast blame as McCain trails in polls
John McCain's plunging poll numbers in Florida have top Republicans second-guessing and starting to distance themselves from the campaign
"No Republican has won the White House in modern times without carrying Florida. The last to lose the state was McCain's former colleague, Sen. Bob Dole, in 1996. Some Republicans say the state party hasn't done enough, while others blame McCain's national campaign."

corey :
Mock
1: to treat with contempt or ridicule : deride
2: to disappoint the hopes of
3: defy , challenge
4 a: to imitate (as a mannerism) closely : mimic b: to mimic in sport or derision
However you want to parse the word, it is an unkind action, and it is not done to any of the other blogs on the blogroll....I was just using that action on trailmix as an example , of unkindness. Seriously, you can't say one thing on this blog, ever, without the "nasties" coming out in full force.
Miss the entire point.....just to be "clever"-"snide" or whatever else floats their boat.....it's really sad. Whoever Blistersyeahbutchannel is, he or she misses the point.....entirely.
