  10. I agree Patsi,
The problem is, that this is exactly what (in my humble opinion) we DON´T need. Too much power for the dems... And after that we will be disillusioned and after four yeras turn to another republican...

But anyway, it is what it is... Everyone has a free will, and if a landslide is what we want, it will probably happen.
With the Pelosi´s, Dean´s and kennedy´s to have as our captains... God help us........

  11. I'm all for a landslide, Jason. With an overwhelmingly Democratic congress and a Democratic president, we may finally see something get done in Washington DC. Gridlock has not worked for us. We need a new approach.

Great news, Jason! I keep thinking about your having finished up the PhD....I know there were times my son felt like he was going to be in school forever! Then, a day before he received his doctorate, he shut a window in the living room too quickly and the glass exploded on his arm. He spent hours at the emergency ward, and graduated with his arm in a sling. Then went into surgery the next day.

  17. Reid will also need to deal with Connecticut’s other senator, Democrat-turned-independent-turned-McCain-supporter Joseph I. Lieberman.

Reid has so far resisted calls to punish Lieberman by taking away his chairmanship of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. But if the Democrats’ Senate majority grows large enough that Lieberman’s vote isn’t needed, his colleagues are unlikely to welcome him back into the Democratic Caucus after the election.

Reid and his advisers — still hoping to avoid a confrontation with the Democrats’ 2000 vice presidential nominee — prefer that Lieberman “do the right thing and take care of this on his own” by voluntarily leaving the Democratic Caucus, a source close to Reid said.

Lieberman has not made any public comment on what he will do in the next Congress.

There's no Senate ethics rule that precludes a convicted felon from serving as a senator? I said convicted.

See, I think that unlike the dems in Congress for the first 6 years of Bushco, repugs will not be sheeple and give a rubber stamp to whatever Obama (isn't there some old saying about counting chickens?) proposes, so I think a supermajority in the the senate is just what the doctor ordered if you want to see anything that could be considered Democratic reform to reverse much of the Bushco damage done to the country. And I do.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/28/washington/28stevens.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin

Oh, and in that article, the answer to my question.

"If Mr. Stevens wins and insists on keeping his seat, his fate will be in the hands of his Senate colleagues. A senator can be expelled only by a two-thirds vote of the entire Senate, so a conviction does not automatically cost a lawmaker his seat. Since 1789, only 15 senators have been expelled, most for supporting the Confederacy during the Civil War, the Senate Web site states."

After spending several minutes trying to spit out an actual question, she said "Sometimes I have trouble talking." And they did cut her off.

Yes -- Renee -- looked a little iffy for awhile. But they rallied.

  65. In Greek mythology, the Titans were a race of powerful deities that ruled during the legendary Golden Age. Their role as Elder Gods being overthrown by a present race of younger gods, the Olympians, effected a mythological paradigm shift that the Greeks borrowed from the Ancient Near East.

There are twelve Titans from their first literary appearance, in Hesiod, Theogony; Pseudo-Apollodorus, in Bibliotheke, adds a thirteenth Titan Dione, a double of Theia. The six male Titans are known as the Titanes, and the females as the Titanides. The Titans were associated with various primal concepts, some of which are simply extrapolated from their names: ocean and fruitful earth, sun and moon, memory and natural law. The twelve first-generation Titans were ruled by the youngest, Kronos, who overthrew their father, Oranos ('Sky'), at the urgings of their mother, Gaia ('Earth').

The Titans later gave birth to other Titans, notably the children of Hyperion (Helios, Eos, and Selene), the daughters of Coeus (Leto and Asteria), and the sons of Iapetus — Prometheus, Epimetheus, Atlas, and Menoetius; all of these descendants in the second generation are also known as "Titans".

The Titans preceded the Twelve Olympians, who, led by Zeus, eventually overthrew them in the Titanomachy ('War of the Titans'). The Titans were then imprisoned in Tartarus, the deepest part of the underworld, with the few exceptions being those who didn't fight with Kronos.

  83. Jack,
I grew up in the 70's in North Florida. We didn't even have a county republican party. My high school years were 1976-1980. I remember what happened to the blue dogs then. They were run out of town. That was back when blue dogs were more conservative than than every republican today.

I would love to see them come to power but most of them are from states that support Mccain and I think that for those states payback will be a bitch.

  86. Ohio's Early Voters Give Obama A Running Head Start in Buckeye State: John McCain and Barack Obama are tied at 47% each in Ohio, among voters who have not yet cast a ballot, but who tell SurveyUSA they are certain to do so on or before election day. But, among those in Ohio who tell SurveyUSA they have already voted, Barack Obama leads by 13 points. When the two populations are combined, the data is as here reported: Obama 49%, McCain 45%. Research sponsored by WCMH-TV Columbus, WKYC-TV Cleveland and WHIO-TV Dayton. Compared to an identical SurveyUSA poll released two weeks ago, Obama is down 1 point; McCain is flat.

He was pro-gun, pro drilling, against the bailout. Don't know what more you can ask for. True case of guilt by association It's a shame because he probably could have gotten more done than the new repub one will.

Last week, AFT-COPE announced the launch of battleground ads, including in WV, but I had not heard one on my local radio until this morning. I like it -- listen and see what you think.

Obama seems to be having a last-minute surge in the Mountain State. At least if my most recent conversations with undecided or "formerly leaning McCain but not any longer" folks are an indication.

But will Obama close the gap?

Every American, you are an American aren't you, should condemn th Ayres', and question Mr. Obama's judgment for associating with known domestic terrorists. How could such an intelligent, community active, event generated person like Mr. Obama, who lived through the 60's and 70's, went to school and lived in NY be so ignorant of who Bill Ayres, and his lovely wife Bernardine Dohrn were? Their FBI wanted pictures were in every Post Office of this country for years.

  91. Jack -- I do think my congressman, Jim Cooper, will be a help to Obama. He's very conservative on fiscal issues. Was an Obama backer from the start -- mainly because he hates Hillary. (He'd tried to influence her on her health care plan years back and was rebuffed.)

At any rate, he's quietly influential. And from an old TN political family, the son of a former governor.

I do worry that he'll balk on any real health care reform. But hopefully he's so deep in the tank he'll do as told.

    pogo,
When you posted that link to ct's post, I went back to read it again. I agree with you, it's a good post. I don't know which particular idea in it you were talking about, but this paragraph stood out to me as particulary meaningfu:

"Many liberals have come to sound too much like the left's version of the radical right. I guess they decided that If you can't fight them with decent speech just join them with nastiness. This election season lasted way too long and I hope the next one doesn't start the day after Obama is elected."

It amazes me how some talk about kindness and giving, as a political philosophy, but aren't able to do just that on an individual, daily basis. It seems contradictory if not hypocritical.

The good news is that after next week I will be freed form this CIRCUS!
Since this election I have become very skeptical of the whole election process in the US. I watched, analyzed and seen that we (americans) all lose in the end....
This year, I am more convinced then ever that if we want to make a turn and want to be considered the greatest country on earth (if there is one) we will need to stop being a divisive country and ungreatful people.
We will need to start respecting eachother (more, even this blog is a resemblance of that) and lose the hypocrisy... My God, this is amazing to see....

    The Endorsement From Hell

    By NICHOLAS D. KRISTOF
    Published: October 25, 2008

John McCain isn’t boasting about a new endorsement, one of the very, very few he has received from overseas. It came a few days ago:

“Al Qaeda will have to support McCain in the coming election,” read a commentary on a password-protected Islamist Web site that is closely linked to Al Qaeda and often disseminates the group’s propaganda.....

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/26/opinion/26kristof.html?em

I have always felt that the Al Qaeda relied on the Bush interventions in the Middle East to keep their militancy growing. Now I read a conservative columnist admits to the same. Kristof's column is worth the read.

  125. Gordo, I don't have time to play tug-o-war with you today. I'll just say that the American people have not demanded to see Obama's birth certificate. A few nutcases have demanded it, but while loud, I'd wager they are a very small minority. I'd say that the 52% who appear to be in Obama's camp right now aren't questioning his constitutional qualifications, and I can't say how many of the 44% who are currently in McCain's camp or those who are are undecided (and I'm skeptical about that) care. Your speculation that any BC he presented to get a passport was altered or a forgery is ridiculous, and like most of the stuff you post here, without any foundation in facts.

What I will also say is that none of the real lawyers in the Repug universe - and there are legions of them - have tried to challenge Obama's qualifications, even after Berg's efforts have become public. That speaks volumes to me.

Posted by: pogo Author Profile Page | October 28, 2008 11:04 AM

  126. Jason, question. What do you think this point in the election would look like if Hillary had won the nomination in regard to the right wing's attacks and so forth. Do you think she would be stronger right now than Obama, or equal or in a more precarious position? I think most of us can agree that Palin was chosen because Obama never seriously considered Hillary as his VP running mate. It was, in a strange way, a outreach to Hillary supporters. Why I say "in a strange way" is that McCain chose someone with so opposite ideology than Hillary to try and attract us angry Hillary supporters to his candidacy.

    Thoughts?

Anselm, if the USA was consistent with taking a stand against "systematic murders, rapes, dismemberment, tortures committed under the [fill in the blank] regime" I would agree you have a point. But if the systemic torture, murders, rapes are done by countries that do the bidding of the USA, they are ok in our foreign policy outlook. Have you considered how many people in Central America were tortured and murdered by right-wing death squads? Chile, the CIA overthrew Salvador Allende.... thousands of political activists murdered. Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua and IRAQ! We didn't care what Saddam was doing to his own people when he was an "ally" of the USA, did we? Look at the infamous video of Donald Rumsfeld toasting him in Bagdad. you think the USA didn't KNOW about his extremism? baaaahhh! I know that our "intelligence" agencies haven't always gotten the information right, but the fact remains, if they are our friends or serve as our satellite servants, our government has no problem with what goes on.

Jim VandeHei, John F. Harris – 24 mins ago

AFP – Republican presidential candidate John McCain speaks at a campaign rally at Trent Arena in Dayton, Ohio. …

Politico political editor Charles Mahtesian was e-mailing the other day with a Republican lobbyist who signed off with a plea that sounded more like a taunt: “Keep it balanced.”

A reader e-mailed us with the same sentiment in different language. “Are you f***ing joking! Your bias has stooped to an all-time low. Wait, it will probably get worse as election day nears.” Those asterisks, by the way, are hers, not ours.

And get a load of this one, from someone in Rochester, N.Y., who did not like our analysis of the final presidential debate. “You guys are awfully tough on McCain. There may be some legitimacy to the claim of press bias. Mom.” (Harris' mother).

  146. 'his right wing, conservative bias certainly doesn't make him the best spokesperson for what constitutes "slanted election coverage".

Thanks Jason. But I didn't need an article to know what I already think anyway.

Going to an early movie. Have a great day.

  148. Zeppelin makes a comeback.....

That was the view on Monday from Moffett Field, where a new company called Airship Ventures cranked up its marketing machine to introduce zeppelin rides in the United States after a 71-year hiatus brought on by the Hindenburg disaster in 1937, the onset of World War II and the eclipse of ocean liner-in-the-sky airships by airplane

  149. Tom -- I think if Hillary had been the candidate, we'd have seen even worse being thrown from the right. They have walked a thin line with Obama, terrified of racism charges. The racism is there, but not as overt as would be the sexism in Hillary's case. I also believe that the media would have been split. Her potential win was never seen as "historic" by the MSM.

For every GORDO with birth certificate rumors, there would have been ten more frothing while they looked into Bill Clinton's sex life.

I still think she'd have won. Especially given the economic turndown. But it would have been an ugly campaign. Just think what Olberman, Matthews, Dowd and company would have done. They'd be slobbering over John McCain.

  150. pogo ---------------

"If he has a passport, he produced a birth certificate and didn't produce it on a website."

"... I don't have time to play tug-o-war with you today. I'll just say that the American people have not demanded to see Obama's birth certificate.

Your speculation that any BC he presented to get a passport was altered or a forgery is ridiculous ..."
    ________________

Run out of excuses for SoetorObama?

Can't defend his determination to hide his REAL BC from the American people?

Not many people know about this issue. How can they demand if they don't know?

Are you saying that BCs are never altered or forged? Do you really believe that? Amazing ! You trust everyone. So, all BCs must be authentic? There are no criminals!!!

  152. "The silence of the females who make-up the Democratic Party over the mistreatment of Hillary is nothing less than deafening."

Chloe is right, Anselm. Women were not silent. But in the end, they were shouted down or threatened. Just look at the threats against black women like Maxine Waters, Sheila Jackson Lee and Stephanie Tubbs Jones. All were threatened with their house seats. I believe it hastened Stephanie Tubbs Jones's death.
