McCain Drives the News

| | Comments (115)

Say what you want about John McCain's pre-debate theatrics, the Republican presidential nominee is in the driver's seat. He might be going off a cliff, but he is in charge.

Or as they say at the raceway, we can't tell if he's headed for the checkered flag or the wall.

Even when under a hailstorm of criticism, sometimes the campaign that everybody is talking about is the one setting the agenda.

Democrat Barack Obama's job in tonight's debate will be to avoid spending most of his time reacting to McCain -- and get on offense.

  2. I'm really looking forward to the debate. For me McCain keeps coming off as rather out of it and completely disconnected from reality. Yet his supporters and much of the coverage is positive. The intensity and length of the debate should clarify the image he projects.

  4. News is announcing that Obama is prepared with zingers to go after McCain. I guess he wants to make it more of a blood bath than a debate like American Gladiator. It will probably thrill his young base. Dems turning mean. That is what has turned me off the most about Obama

I saw Ann Coulter last night on Fox and she even seems mild up agains't the Obama supporters.

  6. mqw,

It is not a "god-like" knowledge.

It comes from spending a lot of time on treatment floors in hospitals with a great variety of patients.

I particularly work with children and teenagers as a volunteer.

One of the things about being a patient with an incurable cancer is that you have to live both with faith (though not in any particular outcome) and a certain grounded quality of hope... really on a daily basis and about a few good things.

You also have to have something of an understanding of what is occuring within your body... also your soul.

Serious illness is a mess and a few daily acts of grace.

A person has to be aware of the limitations on them and proceed without being thwarted by those.

Yes, my hematologist knows a few good things about me aside from my many reports. (My files are the size of two big city phone books.)

She also is most interested in what I am doing with kefir and kombucha.

But she also makes me aware of many limitations... including that I am no longer responsive to the chemos which have worked best for me; in fact, they have turned by leukemia into a number of other serious auto-immune conditions.

Do I have a day and a date for when I shall die?

    No.

I do know what I can do. I know what my illness has done and is doing and most likely will do.

I do my best, mqw. I have taken care of me and taken care of my daughter when she was so seriously ill she had to withdraw from classes and be homeschooled by me for several years.

One thing I do not suffer from is fatuousity.

Unlike melanoma, the only possible cure for that is within someone's character.

I can tell you with some hope that it's never to late for a person to slip away from theirs.

But for some it is harder than others.

    Best of luck to you.

Maybe you have a "godgiven" gift for that.

news corp (fox/murdoch) is the biggest distributor or XXXporn on the planet. republican abc is the #2 porn distributor. bob ryan tried to prostitute his wife in Chicago bars. Add larry craig; mark foley; jimmy bakker, jimmy swaggert, dick morris, tony alamo, and that Congressman who strangled his wife. Add Palin pregnant before marriage, and her daughter, too. Add bush's drunken daughters using forged documents to get booze - and then getting off "for national security reasons". Add abramov, ralph reed, randy cunningham, ted stevens, don young, and ten veco convictions -all republicans. Add Enron, WorldCom, Tyco, and the republican Wall Street scandals. Add neil bush and charles keating embezzlements and frauds, and the republican S & L crisis that cost us $4 TR!LL!ON. Does any of this speak of values ?

You talk pro-life but do nothing. You rant against gay marriage, but do nothing.

the republicans faked a casus bellum & unanimously pushed the Iraq war, which you promptly lost. Along the way, you invented horrid, bigotted, racist accusations against Muslims.

Many of your candidate's religious buddy's call the Pope, 'the anti-Christ.' Your partisans, pat buchanan, ann coulter, and john mclaughlin rave about Jews.

You have screwed things up in Afghanistan so badly, that your former Senate Majority leader has talked about putting the taliban back into the government. You caved in to north Korea and Sudan. You haven't won a war since 1898 - 110 year of humiliation.

You deregulated and nearly destroyed our banking system. You've set records in the number of people losing their homes. The country faces the worst financial crisis since 1893.

You spy on Americans through the banks, mail, phones, and internet. You set up a secret Gulag, kidnapped people off the streets, held them without legal defense, tortured and murdered them after they surrendered. Yet, the Secret Service prevented County Deputies from giving cheney a breathalyzer after he shot a man. You destroyed the utility of America's most vital spy, and probably got a dozen people she's talked to at conferences killed - all for a cheap personal vendetta. And then you pardoned the criminal who outed her!

And, you want to wreck more ! Yes, of course I believe you guys hate America. It is the only resonable explanation for the damage republicans did to this great country.

Yes, I feel Obama is introvert which is not at all to be taken as "shy" or reticent. McCain is harder to figure, but appears more extraverted. Hillary is extraverted. The measurement is on a continuum from extremely extraverted to extremely introverted. None of them are at the extremes in my observation. But I am not a professional. Someone else may know more. I think it would beneficial to the public if all the candidates took the "Myers Briggs" test.

  86. Obama tell us that we will get a share of Iraq oil, or stop funding Iraq const. and save $$$$$ that will be used to help with the fiscal mess that Bush ,McCain got us into. If I hear something like this I will be happy for the night.

CNN has the audience reaction by party and Obama is doing much better than McCain. You can always count on McCain to smirk.

You do know that voting on any web site, left right or center means absolutely nothing.

It's fun but it's totally worthless.

Posted by: chloe Author Profile Page | September 26, 2008 10:33 PM

  105. Yup. A draw. Where's Ron Paul when you need him? Oh, that's right, the "Commission on Presidential Debates" won't let him in.

  108. "The Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) was established in 1987 by the Democratic and Republican parties to establish the way that debates between candidates for President of the United States are run. The Commission is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) entity as defined by Federal US tax laws, whose debates are sponsored by private contributions from foundations and corporations."
