    Posted by: wahwah | September 4, 2008 10:14 PM

  8. Jack,

We are talking manufacturing jobs, not marketing jobs, not engineer jobs. BHO specifically said, manufacturing jobs. So since he is so specific on bringing back manufacturing jobs, all I was asking which manufacturing jobs. It won't be steel, it won't be cars, it won't textile, it won't be anything that can be purchased from foreign that is of equal quality and can be purchased at a lower price. Not to long ago one of the last great American names in home products could no longer hold out, Hoover Vacuum Cleaners of N. Canton, OH, sent their manufacturing end to Mexico. They didn't want to, but Dirt Devil was kicking their butts selling a similar product for $150 cheaper. Hoover will not be returning to N. Canton. At some point a company has to ask themselves how many times can we withstand for our ledgers to end up in the red. Look at a non-manufacturing job, airlines. They have reduced the number of employees, they have cut back or eliminated benefits, they have reduced their retirements, they have started charging passengers for everything over and above their basic seat. Some have even gone as far as not taking off with a full tank of fuel to try and save overhead. Yet they are still losing $$$$ hand over fist.

This country runs on fossil fuels and to think you can just stop using them and still stay the worlds only true power is just plain foolishness. As TBoone Pickens said, while building and new sources of energy, wind, solar, thermal, nuclear, cng, etc, we still need to drill, drill, drill.

  148. Obama Lawsuit -- "Hidden Past"
    =======================
Berg v. Obama Update -- Wednesday, September 3

Summons Reissued, Obama to be Served by Tomorrow

While the original summons was accepted ten days ago by the U.S. Attorney's office on behalf of the Federal Election Commission, also a named defendant in Berg's suit, proper service never reached the Democratic National Committee or Barack Obama's agent for service. Today's procedure will ensure that proper service is made, but the reasons behind the procedural hiccup remain a mystery to everyone involved.

This time, rather than relying solely upon the court to mail the summonses following the filing of the complaint, the papers were faxed to a court service company in Washington, D.C."

  158. If McCain plans to actually reform his party the people chanting USA at every hint of weaknesses in the economy are in for a very rude awakening. With a Democratic congress there will have to be a lot of compromise. Change will come if either man wins and the floor of the RNC will never look as hateful as it does today. These people are for killing wolves and polar bears for no other reason than that Dems hope to preserve them. Drill, drill, drill because the weak-kneed Dems are concerned about environmental damage.
“I hate war” got applause but no chants. “partisan rancor” got a timid response. He made the case for change but most of the RNC did not see it in front of them. Mr. McCain is hoping for Democratic crossovers but the honor and the service and the love of country and the flag and what it stands for have been grossly dragged through the mud of a spite-filled and pitiful RNC

  180. No, Alicia. It's a little hard to explain but.. i'll give it a shot..

Canada is a constitutional monarchy.. we hold elections and territories are divided up into ridings (kind of like your counties). They add up the votes and the leader fo the party that gets the most votes then becomes Prime Minister. Parliament consists of two houses: House of Commons, Senate. House of commons seats those who are elected, with largest party winners on one side, and opposition winners on the other. The Senate is an appointed house. It is considered a house of "wise and sober thought" (although, I've known some senators who were far from sober). A law is passed by the House of Commons, it then goes to the Senate for "up" or "down". If it passes the Senate it is then law.

The Prime Minister can call an election at any time, but must call one within 5 years of his/her victory.

Sen. John McCain promises that "change is coming" to Washington as he accepts the nomination for president at the Republican National Convention.

(09-04) 20:05 PDT ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) --

John McCain, a POW turned political rebel, vowed Thursday night to vanquish the "constant partisan rancor" that grips Washington as he launched his fall campaign for the White House. "Change is coming," he promised the roaring Republican National Convention and a prime-time television audience.

Posted by: Shannona Author Profile Page | September 4, 2008 11:33 PM

  186. Oh Jamie.. lol.. I forgot about votes of non-confidence.

In a situation like we have now, sometimes an election result is a minority government - that is, that no party wins a clear majority. The one with the slim margin forms a government, and in some cases does manage to do quite a bit of work because in order to get anything done, they have to work with those in other parties.

But sometimes, those in minority get a little too big for their britches and the leaders of the other parties bring in a vote of non-confidence. -- forcing the minority goverment to go to the polls again.

They all use the term “safely nominated” when referring to Obama. That is weird.

This morning I was listening to a Dallas radio show...I believe the 3 people are a gay man, a black guy who only dates white women and a white single mom. They were talking about how they have seen this election really cause some strains in relationships etc...

They offered a thought about why Obama would lose...

"McCain has already reneged on his plan to run a clean campaign without the negative stuff. He is proving that his will to win is more important than keeping his word"

"Obama's problem will be does he keep his word and stay clean, or does he say screw it and starts to beat up the old man. They fear that if Obama defends himself, he'll be bludgeoned by the Republicans as a hypocrite for breaking his word. If he keeps his word and maintains his honor, they will pain him as a wuss..."
