    Sturge,
I liked your Jerry Seinfeld quote.
In reality though, I think birds fly into mirrors for the same reason they fly into windows. They don't realize anything's there (it looks like empty space). I think they're like cats, they don't see reflections, even their own.

Not that any of that matters. But....(You weren't using that as some kind of metaphor, were you?)

Posted by: chloe Author Profile Page | September 9, 2008 6:22 PM

  2. no metaphor, just a funnyism

but then, faulkner used to claim there was no symbolism in his work..........

  3. Then I'll have to keep wondering Sturge.

  4. Hey, Sturge. You think you know something no one else does. I even have a T-Shirt that says "I'm not a bitch; I am THE Bitch".

Go volunteer to do something for someone. I do. At least I put my money and efforts where I truly care..that's about helping people in need (and Obama)...something you'll never see from McCain/Palin or IMO any Republican. Oh, you're in need but I'm not trained in that area. You must get a reference for that affliction.

  6. Does this count as a comment?

    Tonight's undercard
"All the national attention is on the Pennsylvania presidential primary tonight, but the big congressional battleground will be Mississippi, where Democrats are hoping that they can come one step closer to winning a seat in the heart of the heavily Republican Deep South."

"In the special election in Mississippi’s 1st District, Prentiss County Chancery Clerk Travis Childers (D) will be facing Southaven Mayor Greg Davis (R). The winner will be succeeding Republican Roger Wicker, who was appointed to fill Trent Lott’s Senate seat in January."

Making things more interesting is the fact that they are running on a nonpartisan ballot."

"Fire MSNBC. They’re killing your campaign."

"I still don’t believe that true Hillary Clinton supporters will back the McCain/Palin ticket. Liberal feminists aren’t going to turn into home-school hockey moms because there’s a girl on the GOP team. But something is up."

  14. The point isn't that liberal Hillary supporters will support Palin.

Hillary had a broader appeal to moderate voters who may disagree with her on some social issues, but are attracted to her strength and the successof the Clinton years. Most pundits apparently don't understand that these are the Hillary supporters who are vulnerable to supporting McCain.

Now for all you BHO goobers don't forget to watch Bill O'Riley tonight for his 3rd interview with BHO. Tonight's discussion BHO's association with the Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, Rashid and Mona Khalidi, Nadhmi Auchi, Tony Rezko, New Black Panther Party, Louis Farrakhan, and other notables.

As I said earlier today, although O'Riley has not given Team BHO the questions, the mere fact that he has been asking these questions during his show for the past several months, and saying these are the questions he'll be asking, is pretty much the same as giving him the questions ahead of time. So his answers will be quick and to the point, without all the 'ah's, and "uhs" we usually get from BHO when the questions are spontaneous.

All the difference in the world. Schaffly might appeal to our mothers wants and desires. Palin appeals to my sisters world view. Where women work, raise the children and worry about the world there children are in. In that world questioning a librarian about what books the librarian is letting their children read is not a negative.

"questioning a librarian about what books the librarian is letting their children read is not a negative."

That is why libraries have children's sections and limited cards that can't check out "adult" or controversial books. You don't base public reading material on the sensibilities of a ten year old.

That is called parental guidance. Others should not be expected to conform to your standards. What they choose to read is their business.

Around our home anytime we hear of someone trying to ban a book (other than the absolutely pornographic), it means go and buy it to read unless it had been read before. My son only objected to "Little Red Riding Hood" that somebody wanted disposed of because that version had wine in her basket.

I have no problem with "age appropriate" designations so that parents and guardians can regulate a child's access, but will fight tooth and nail against anyone trying to make their values and prejudices the rule for everyone.

  54. In the cases of more than 2,500 people who receive rape kits each year, hospitals bill the patients' health insurer. Insurance companies, in turn, require emergency room co-payments and deductible costs.

For those without insurance, hospitals send the bills to the N.C. Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, which has a modest fund to help. Reimbursements are capped at $1,000; the average cost of the rape kit exam is $1,600.http://209.85.141.104/search?q=cache:F5SfF4vM2eAJ:www.newsobserver.com/news/story/941202.html+practice+of+charging+victims+for+rape+kits+-Palin+-Wasilla&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=3&gl=us

This smacks of frustration or desperation or both, either will surely back-fire.

He did this honesty/truthfulness thing in the primaries against Hillary without getting called on it just as He got away with playing the Race Card and then branding a successful 2-term Democratic President as a Racist. The McCain camp already busted him on the latter, but they will eviscerate him on the former. What must He be thinking?

  86. For the women attending a campaign event in Lancaster County, Pa., Sarah Palin might as well be at the top of the Republican ticket.

"I like the way she's going to bring Washington down to earth," said Erin Gilsbach, 30, who drove from Allentown with her sister, husband and two daughters to hear the Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential nominee speak here Tuesday. "Everyone talks about it, but I get the feeling she's going to do it."

That's exactly what worries Democrats, who see women in Pennsylvania and other states who might have voted for New York Sen. Hillary Clinton turning to Palin - No. 2 on the Republican ticket led by Arizona Sen. John McCain.

"We haven't closed the deal in America, and we certainly haven't closed the deal in Pennsylvania," said Gov. Ed Rendell, a Democrat who stopped into Lancaster to campaign for Sen. Barack Obama Monday. "We have a lot of work to do."

For most women attending the event - many waited two hours in line to get into a field house at Franklin & Marshall College - Palin was a bigger draw than McCain. An estimated 10,000 people found parking wherever they could near the school, hoofing it with umbrellas in muggy weather to the rally.

I am voting between McCain and Obama and their parties platforms, Palin is an unknown......we only know what we have been able to scrap up through newspapers, and documents. I guess that's a risk you take when you bring someone into the global spotlight, that no one knows, for the second most important position in the free world.

    Posted by: unlikely_burrito Author Profile Page | September 9, 2008 9:11 PM

  89. Medical personnel do the collection because they are the ones who know how. The kit is given into evidence. In a state in the top five of per capita rapes and incest it probably is a good size expense, but billing the victim is probably not the best way to encourage cooperation with the investigations.

Of course Palin believes that if the woman gets pregnant from rape or incest she has to have the child so why bother convicting the perpetrator at all?

"Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men."

But it continually encounters similar efforts on the part of other bodies and ends by coming to an arrangement ("union") with those of them that are sufficiently related to it: thus they then conspire together for power. And the process goes on--

from The Will to Power, s.636, Walter Kaufmann transl.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Anything which] is a living and not a dying body... will have to be an incarnate will to power, it will strive to grow, spread, seize, become predominant - not from any morality or immorality but because it is living and because life simply is will to power... 'Exploitation'... belongs to the essence of what lives, as a basic organic function; it is a consequence of the will to power, which is after all the will to life.

  164. From the man who is unable to defend honor...

McCain is outraged that Obama said his policies is putting lipstick on a pig, yet McCain runs an ad saying that a father of 2 young girls wants to teach sex ed to 4 year olds...

  165. Further proof that McCain is a crass and boorish man who lacks honor and decency...

  166. I am crass and lack decency...so I can't complain too much.

But these sideshows are beside the point. Bill Clinton wasn't big in the "honor" or "decency" departments - but he was a damn good President.

I am looking for someone who is smart and is proposing good policies.

  168. Bill Burton, Obama's press secretary, responded in a statement: “It is shameful and downright perverse for the McCain campaign to use a bill that was written to protect young children from sexual predators as a recycled and discredited political attack against a father of two young girls – a position that his friend Mitt Romney also holds. Last week, John McCain told Time magazine he couldn't define what honor was. Now we know why."

That statement was good up until that last sentence. Doesn't someone proof these things. There was no need for that last cheap shot. What does it get you except buzz that the campaign went over the line.

Fighting fire with fire often gets you burned.

Obama better get back to the high road.

  170. Jack:

Who cares. Before Palin - it was quite clear that McCain would appoint judges that would tip the delicate balance in terms of the Roe v. Wade decision.

McCain caved to the Right with his VP pick - you don't think he would do the same with judges...

  171. Warren,

They were pointing out that when asked to define honor, McCain, a graduate of Annapolis who's academic career was governed by an Honor Code, could not or would not say what honor was.

In the context of saying that your opponent wanted to give sex education to kindergartners, I would say that proves he doesn't know the meaning of honor.

It's ironic that when McCain takes the high road, people complain he's a pussy. When they fight with some vigor, it's taking the low road.

I've always believed that if you're damned if you do and damned if you don't...you may as well do.

  175. "Listening to Barack Obama,it can seem like the Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin is the main person standing between him and the White House instead of John McCain"
Where's Joe Biden on Sarah Palin? Why is the Dem. Pres.nominee taking on the Rep.VP nominee?Doesn't this make everyone compare the experience of Obama top of the ticket vs Palin 2nd spot on the ticket?
