Obama's VP Short List Down to Biden

| | Comments (20)

ABC's Jake Tapper reports Secret Service dispatched to Joe Biden's side. Other signs: Biden staff are still up at this hour taking press calls. And they've been asked by Barack Obama's staff to provide lists of biographical contacts to provide to the media for stories about Biden. Also at this hour, Biden aides are compiling lists of traveling staff for Secret Service vetting.

  6. Quit being so picky KGC! Me too.

    "told you so"

    KGC,

You asked me once, months ago, who would be a good choice as his VP and I said Biden. While you agreed with me as to a good choice, you suggested that he wouldn't accept because he would feel he could do more as a senior Senator.

    We still don't know though!

  9. Glad to hear that its looking like Biden. He was my first choice for President - though he never had a chance at that, since Obama and Clinton got all the publicity. It would have been nice if he had been the "white guy" alternative of choice instead of Edwards.

If this was a normal year I would say this ticket wouldn't have a chance. A northern big city liberal and a Northeastern Democrat from one of those states so small that they put their name out in the middle of the ocean.
The basic dynamic of the Northern midwest is between the Urban interest (democrat)and the Rural interests Republican, so that the states seesaw back and forth. I don't see the Democrats breaking this dynamic and the Republicans doing their best to exploit it.
The only thing that will make a change is that Bush has so screwed up everything that the Republican brand is toxic.

  19. It must be Hillary. The NYTimes, AP and CNN are all now reporting that Biden is the pick. The stories only quote Democratic officials and not the Obama campaign.

I can't imagine that the Obama campaign would build things up this long just to have multiple leaks from multiple "Democratic officials" to the newsmedia hours before the much hyped text-message to supporters. If that is what happened, all of this rollout hype has been a collasal waist of time.

Hillary Clinton is the only vp selection that could justify, all of the hype at this point.

  20. Remember CNN made the really unfortunate error of reporting Congresswomen Tubbs Jones death prematurely on the word of a "Democratic official."

I really think this has all been an elaborate ruse. The Obama campaign has proved to be very good at deceiving the press (remember the press being trapped in an airplane while Obama and Hillary met in private.)

If the vp choice is Hillary, the ability of the Obama campaign and the Clintons to keep this selection under wraps with no leaks, bodes very well for their ability to trust each other and work together.
