In some ways, this is opening night for Michelle Obama.
Politics seldom offers second chances, but thanks to a strategy that has kept the aspiring first lady somewhat in the background this summer, tonight's headliner speech will be her introduction to millions of voters who were not tuned in during the overheated Democratic primary season.
Mrs. Obama's relatively quiet summer appears headed for a change tonight. Her starring role on the convention's first night is nothing short of a product rollout for whatever she plans to be in the coming general election campaign. And it likely will be someone who will not "fuel the fire," as she pointedly observed about Laura Bush's tranquil style. (Read Full Story on CQ Politics)

House-Gate: Open mouth, insert foot
"... during the latest installment of “This Week,” the presumptive Republican presidential nominee’s real estate holdings were discussed with every guest ...
What Stephanopoulos may not have expected was Time’s Mark Halperin claiming that “this is going to end up being one of the worst moments in the entire campaign for one of the candidates, but it’s Barack Obama.”
Adding delicious insult to injury, much to Democrat strategist Donna Brazile’s dismay, Halperin saw the Obama campaign’s attack on McCain not knowing how many houses he owns as opening the door for the Arizona senator to bring up the Illinois senator’s connections to Tony Rezko, Reverend Wright, and William Ayers."

I just hope to hell they let Michelle be Michelle.
Illinois would be well served if she was Senator Obama. I like her she is one tough woman. My fear is the campaign will try to silence her or make her into somthing she is not. Notice I said try, they would not be successful but they could ruin her image.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
"And Hillary could have tried to be warm to contrast with Obama’s cool. But when the Hillary campaign tried to
make her a little warmer, she either balked or the result was a disaster.
In September 2007, some top Clinton staffers arranged for her to appear on the season opener of NBC’s
“Saturday Night Live.” One said: “We told her doing ‘SNL’ would be a way of showing she was being a good sport
and letting her hair down. I pushed her, and Howard [Wolfson] pushed her. But she didn’t want to do that shit.”
Not until her campaign was in trouble, anyway. Obama appeared on “Saturday Night Live” in November 2007, but
Hillary didn’t do the show until March 2008, after losing several key races. "

Linda Douglass, who used to work at ABC and NBC, and left the news business and went to the Obama campaign. Linda Douglass said of Joe Biden, he's not a Washington insider. "Joe Biden goes home every night to his family in Delaware, takes a train home. He's not of Washington."
Ed Rendell at a forum yesterday afternoon pointed out that MSNBC is in the tank for Obama and it's embarrassing.
Lou Dobbs on CNN said, "My colleagues are in the tank for Obama."

Biden in June of 2006 on Meet the Press talking about the Haditha massacre.
Russert: "Let me ask you a question on Iraq about Haditha, some of the other alleged atrocities. The fact is, our government knew about that for some time. How high up the chain, based on your information, do you think this goes?
Biden: "Secretary of Defense."
Russert: "What should be done about Rumsfeld?"
Biden: "He should be gone. He shouldn't be in his office tomorrow morning, but I'm so tired of saying this on your show. I've been saying this for two years." "Well, the president knew about Haditha in March." "Well, we can't get rid of the president. He's there for two and a half more years. There's a system of accountability. The system of accountability is it used to be a gentlemanly thing, as they say, when you make serious mistakes, you step forward, you acknowledge them, and you walk away. Presidents can't and shouldn't do that. Secretaries of Defense can and should."
Eight of the Marines charged for that so-called massacre and the cover-up have already been exonerated. One case is still pending. Using Bidens own synopsis, Biden then should step down as he has made mistakes, he was wrong on the surge, he was wrong on Haditha.

Washington Post editorial board. October 25th, 2007.
Question: "Can I ask you something on that point? If you were to look at the educational results of schools in Iowa, you would find that they're some of the best in the country. Washington, DC, pays teachers substantially more, so clearly there's more to it than just we're not spending enough money."
BIDEN: You have to start off with what they start off with. There's less than 1% of the population of Iowa that is African-American. There is probably less than four or five percent that are minorities. What is it in Washington?
REPORTER: I think it's the vast majority.
BIDEN: Yeah. So, look, it goes back to what you start off with, what you're dealing with. When you have children coming from dysfunctional homes, when you have children coming from homes where there's no books, where the mother from the time they're born doesn't talk to them, as opposed to the mother in Iowa who is sitting out there and talks to them, the kid starts off with a 300 word larger vocabulary at age three. Half this education gap exists before a kid puts a foot in the first classroom.

This is getting to be a bit much
We understand the media's Clinton convention tension story that's been rolled out this week was a pre-scheduled event, and that Obama and Clinton could have exchange bouquets in public today and the press was going to run with this story because they've been looking forward to it for weeks, if not months.
It's just that the press really does to seem to be grasping at straws in order to keep this narrative afloat. Check out washingtonpost.com's The Trail and its breathless item, "Clinton Advisers Skipping Obama Speech," in which we learn the breaking news that out of the tens of thousands of people coming and going from Denver this week for the convention, Terry McAuliffe, Steve Rattner and Maureen White won't be in town come Thursday night.
Folks, that's Very Important News. Just trust the Post.

In 2005, Cari admitted to taking part in an $850,000 kickback scheme that prosecutors say was part of a larger political fund-raising operation for Gov. Blagojevich overseen by Rezko, who was convicted in June of wide-ranging corruption involving state deals."

Ted is popular with a minority faction of the Democratic party. When it comes to winning nation wide elections a losing wing of the party. It was fine for the party to honor Kennedy but the film should have been about Teddy, his battles and all the good he has done. For them to show picture after picture of Obama with Kennedy shows they don't understand middle America.

Thanks Jack- Reading your post earlier got me thinking about it and realized that I really don't know much about the hearts and minds of the heartland and west, anyways thought it was an insightful comment.
Ditto for the box.

Well they keep telling us that Biden is one of the few Senators who isn't a millionaire.
And another commercial about how Matthews and Hardball will bash Hillary again tomorrow. "Will HIllary Go All Out For Obama?"
Somebody needs to knock some heads together. All this wa wa wa is starting to make their hero look like a wimp. I mean really, is the little 5'4" blond going to stomp on his instep with her high heel? Somebody defend the poor dear.
Enough Already!
Maybe we really should give the job to Michelle.

At least they can't blame Hillary for any plots to kill Obama., Now it's on Biden's doorstep. Only he would profit. Oops....you women haters should have been pulling for HRC to get the VP hat tip. You missed an opportunity.

The 527’s Reply to Obama’s Efforts to Quash Ayers Ad
"Bud White’s excellent piece on the Republican 527 ad now hitting the airwaves showing only part of Barack Obama’s relationship with unrepentant American terrorist, Bill Ayers, has the Obama campaign worried. First, here is the ad:"

I am at the camp and I have only two channels on my TV with rabbit ears and that is PBS and NBC. Damn, I can still get the Democratic convention. It is on PBS. I was hoping I would miss it.
So far I am not impressed. Why did Caroline Kennedy get to pick the VP? What are her credentials for doing that?
I am pretty sure I am changing to Independent. No longer like the Democratic party. It has been taken over by has beens and those that haven't had time to be anything yet. That includes the "one" running for president.
With all this country has to offer, we have to select from these two turkeys???
Carol

Sea -- I've been watching The Closer -- might switch over to the convention. But from what I saw from the "experts" earlier, it was just a Clinton bashing ball.

West Coast time. I don't get the new episodes of Closer and Grace for another hour and a half.
I'm sure C-SPAN will have her speech available tomorrow if you miss it.

My sentiments exactly, Carol.

Her credentials seem to be that she is a blast from the past, living legacy of Camelot and JFK, to which Obama and his crowd likes to compare him.
Have been thinking about the odd Jackie/ Michelle comparison and I just don't see it. In fact Cindy seems to have more in common with Jackie than Michelle.

Also, I am glad the Obamas are now using more appropriate music, during their appearances 8~)...(maybe it's just 'cause their children are there tonight).

Just got an email from a old friend, David Gipp.. Interesting.
"I will be giving a (3 minute) speech at the Democratic National Convention, main podium, on August 26 (Tuesday), somewhere between 3:00 - 3:30 p.m. (Mountain Daylight Time), Denver, CO. It appears I am one of one or one of very few to speak at the convention. I was recommended by Sen. Barrack Obama. So, am busy submitting the statement ahead of time and trying to cover the waterfront on education, treaties, sovereignty, econ. development, etc. & assure it makes some kind of sense." --D Gipp

"I thought is was odd that Kennedy didn't mention Biden at all."
In retrospect it was odd, he seemed winded a few times, perhaps he started to conserve his words.

who is David Gipp, Barack's yard man? Seems like everyone who knows him will be speaking.

Come to think about it the last one was just as bad.
Did get one good story out of it.
I was sitting in bed and my parrot was sitting on my stomach demanding I groom him, when Reverend Al started his speech. The bird turned his attention to Al Sharpton listen a bit then went to be bottom of the bed. While stareing at Reverend Al, he did a little mateing strut in front of the TV.
That bird does love Reverend Al

The Dems should have hired the Chinese director of the opening/closing of the olympics. At least hired him for a few hours as a consultant on how to put on an entertaining show that can convey a message.

No - the repugs drill their message home from day one. It's a bunch of lies and/or fear-mongering. But they never give up. They beleive that if you say something often enough, it makes it true. And it has worked.

I used to watch both of them.
For all the boring speeches, the convention will usually lay out the campaign's message going into the fall campaign.

Carol; 10:31 pm ......."these 2 turkeys" Carol. you read my mind, I totally agree, you'd think they could do better for almost a billion bucks...........................
Sturgeone; 11:19 pm....."you've seen one, you've seen them all," and now another one, bummer..........
The "show" tonight was, as I suspected an indoctrination - All about Us (the obama's ego) and nothing about you - as in energy policy, mortgage crisis, the wars. This is supposed to be a political convention, yes??
Jack;.......... I really wish big Dawg would just walk and leave the mutt hanging.............................
