Because of the irrational exuberance -- a re-post.
==============================
"I asked a friend who knows someone who has seen the video to Michelle Obama making disparaging remarks about “white” folks. You know, those angry God hugging, gun toting mouth breathers. He wrote me the following:
But there is a very strange air about Republican operatives. In the last three weeks, I’ve talked to real insiders in VA, GA, AL and here. They all remind me of a unit waiting to cross the line of departure on an attack. Quiet, determined, last cigarette, last “can of peaches out of the ration,” radio checks, confident. They all use the term “safely nominated” when referring to Obama. That is weird.
They can’t wait to start taking Barack apart on the issues the media chose to ignore up to this point. And when the attacks intensify Joe Biden’s foreign policy expertise won’t matter one whit."

Obama's wife should also be thanking her lucky stars that Senator Clinton is a woman with a lot of class.

Nope...
Chapter 5 is the easiest, because it is the recommendations, which can easliy be derived form the two prceeding chapters
Chapter 3 is the hardest, because that is where my risk anlysis is. Chapter 4 is the What if chapter (Motsly speculation, build on the theory in chapter 2)
If ya have those three chapters done, chapter five can be written in a week....
But I have put it off for two weeks cause I need to go to a conference on derivatives tonight.....
I do not smoke, I do not drink, so I do not have to use the coffee shops. Ya dont get rid of me that easy Sir. :-)

Explaining What Being A Democrat Means
By Big Tent Democrat, Section Elections 2008
Posted on Wed Aug 27, 2008 at 09:44:50 AM EST
It is most revealing that the pundits who, apparently looking for things to criticize about Hillary Clinton, complain that Hillary's speech was not about Obama the person, it was about why Democrats should support the Democratic nominee. This is classic personality driven punditry. They do not believe the issues matter. To them it is not about the American People and their lives and issues, it is about their silly Freak Show. Anglachel captures why Hillary Clinton's speech was so powerful and why it was the best possible endorsement that could be delivered for Barack Obama:

A bit of Reagan style with a Demcratic sound
From the HRC speech last night
"We are Americans. We're not big on quitting. But remember, before we can keep going, we have to get going by electing Barack Obama president. We don't have a moment to lose or a vote to spare. Nothing less than the fate of our nation and the future of our children hang in the balance."

I loved this sentence from the link you posted.
"Hillary took the party by the scruff of its dithering neck and made it look at the reason we are a party in the first place."
A big Amen to that one. That was the most striking part of the speech for me. It reminded me why I'm a Democrat.

Yesterday Warren posed a question that made me take stock on issues that matter to me and how they relate to McCain and Obama.
Environment: I believe both would be good stewards.
Supreme Court: Unknowable, but advantage BO.
Healthcare; Unknowable, but advantage BO. I am certain that little will be done by either because of the weak economy, and will be kicked down the road.
Economy: Unknowable, but slight advantage McC. I have much more confidence in divided gov. on this issue..
Character: McC clearly
Religion: Obama wears it on his sleeve but I like it deep in the pocket. McC is uncomfortable talking about faith and thinks it is a private matter. I agree with McC.
Foreign Policy: McC clearly. I have every doubt about BO's capacity on this issue which is the most important reason I support McC. On this issue Hillary above all others secured my confidence.
Experience: As my girl Hillary and Biden believed McC clearly.
Michelle Obama: "I Would Have To Think About Supporting Clinton If She Is The Nominee," well in fairness I have been thoughtful.

sorry, Jamie.... I thought it was too important a post to simply link to....
here's Alicia's post at the end of the last thread in full.....
"Jamie and Prof Marcia -- Exactly - Hillary cannot convince her supporters to suddenly switch to Obama -- because it doesn't matter as much what *she* says to them -- it matters far more what *he* says to them. There is a whole that he needs to say that he just hasn't said yet.
So what kinds of things does BO need to say to Clintonites?
1. I know I wasn't your first pick, maybe not even your second pick -- but I would ask humbly that you give me a chance. Please let me try to convince you that I am worthy of your support -- and your vote.
2. I know a lot of terrible things were said about my opponent , Hillary Clinton. I am ashamed of the sexist behavior and statements of some of the people who said they were my supporters. I want to assure you that those people did not represent how I feel or believe -- and I completely reject that type of bad behavior. I regret that I was not more forceful in rejecting that behavior earlier on, and I apologize for not standing up for civility.
3. I know that your trust must be earned and I pledge to work tirelessly on your behalf for the issues and concerns that we both care about.
4. I will always respect you, and your contributions to our Democratic party and to our country, that has all too often gone unacknowledged by our leaders. The time has come for that to change, starting with me, right here, right now.
5. I can't win this without you. I need you. Please work with me and help me win this election so that we can start making real change to improve the lives of our families. Please walk with me -- beside me, not behind me. Let's begin anew on the work to take our country forward in a new direction -- when justice is finally achieved for all.
ETC........"

Ayers Was NOT “Just a Neighbor”
"The American Issues Project, a 501(c)4 organization, prepared and released on August 21st a very damning video of Obama and his association with terrorist friend and colleague William Ayers. The increasingly shrill hysteria by Obama and his supporters over this video is very telling.
Obama even put out a response ad that, as MarketWatch notes, “fails to dispute a single fact about [his] relationship with domestic terrorist, William Ayers.” That is,
Obama worked for and with Ayers
Ayers helped start Obama’s career
Ayers hosted political fundraisers with and for Obama"

Another, favorite quote from the speech last night
"[W]e don't need four more years, of the last eight years. More economic stagnation, and less affordable health care. More high gas prices, and less alternative energy.... John McCain says the economy is fundamentally sound. John McCain doesn't think that 47 million people without health insurance is a crisis. John McCain wants to privatize Social Security. And in 2008, he still thinks it's okay when women don't earn equal pay for equal work. With an agenda like that, it makes sense that George Bush and John McCain will be together next week in the Twin Cities. Because these days they're awfully hard to tell apart."

This is very interesting:
Xbox 360 users can now register to vote using their consoles, through a new partnership between Microsoft and activist organization Rock the Vote aimed at engaging young audiences to an interest in politics.
The new services, launching on Xbox Live August 25th, will also let users participate in polls, download Rock the Vote public service announcements, and voice their opinions to the presidential candidates through a special forum.
Xbox will promote the partnership at both the Democratic and Republican convention, where Microsoft will also aim to educate delegates about the parental controls on the console and its Live component.
Rock the Vote notes that if Xbox Live's 12 million userbase were a state, it would rank as the nation's seventh-largest, with approximately 20 electoral votes.

just my take on Marcia's question.
Did Hillary's speech convince most of the women not currently
planning on voting for Obama to vote for him? I wonder.
Posted by: prof marcia | August 27, 2008 10:19 AM
I certainly hope so !!! She definitely made the case as clearly as possible and the contrast between Obama and McInsane.
Some quotes I liked:
"I want you to ask yourselves: Were you in this campaign just for me? Or were you in it for that young Marine and others like him? Were you in it for that mom struggling with cancer while raising her kids? Were you in it for that boy and his mom surviving on the minimum wage? Were you in it for all the people in this country who feel invisible?" ...
"we don't need four more years ... of the last eight years."
"John McCain says the economy is fundamentally sound. John McCain doesn't think that 47 million people without health insurance is a crisis. John McCain wants to privatize Social Security. And in 2008, he still thinks it's OK when women don't earn equal pay for equal work.
With an agenda like that, it makes sense that George Bush and John McCain will be together next week in the Twin Cities. Because these days they're awfully hard to tell apart."
"We've got to ensure that the choice we make in this election honors the sacrifices of all who came before us, and will fill the lives of our children with possibility and hope.
That is our duty, to build that bright future, and to teach our children that in America there is no chasm too deep, no barrier too great — and no ceiling too high — for all who work hard, never back down, always keep going, have faith in God, in our country, and in each other."
If this speech doesn't convince them, nothing will, and sorry, then I would have to answer Hillary's question by saying "those who Hillary supporters who still steadfastly refuse to vote for Barack Obama, really were in the campaign only for her".
Addendum: And if that is the case, that is ok too, but for me the issues are to important to for all our welfare and thus I can't conceive of another choice. As for the VP decision, yeah I'm a bit pissed still, but it's past news and at some point we GOT to move on, or at least try to,,,

Summary: Norah O'Donnell asked Mike Barnicle, regarding the Democratic National Convention, "[W]hy not position a senator, like Claire McCaskill, up there for five minutes and let her throw some red meat out to the crowd?" In fact, McCaskill did speak on the first night of the convention and did repeatedly criticize Sen. John McCain and President Bush, but MSNBC didn't air her speech during its live coverage.

More on boys being boys.
When Stinky and I moved here from Florida, one of the things that made us choose our neighborhood was a school bus returning kids from school--probably kindergarteners and first graders.
A little black boy and a little white boy got off the bus and bounced up the street together. It was absolutely obvious to both of us that they were best friends.
That's why we moved to this neighborhood.
And, when I relate that story to other people, of varying races, they understand exactly what I mean. If I had one or the other child being a man, they would have asked how long it took for the police to arrive.
Let's all let kids be kids.

Mr. D.
I'm sure you'll be pleased, because there are two things in that Simon article you posted that really annoy me (and I've come to believe, you truly love annoying people).
The first was this: "“To my supporters, my champions — my sisterhood of the traveling pantsuits — from the bottom of my heart: Thank you,” she said. “You never gave in. You never gave up. And together we made history.”
It was history. Of a sort. She showed that a woman could win the nomination. But she did not win the nomination..."
She had to thank her supporters. And to make that sound like some kind of self promotion is crazy. She acknowledged those that Obama has yet to acknowldedge. So good for her.
The other thing was this: "If Barack Obama loses this fall, the Democrats will be devastated, and if Hillary Clinton is viewed has having contributed to that loss by encouraging and maintaining a rift within the party, she will be severely damaged."
I am so tired of hearing that. It's time for Barack to get to work and fight for his own votes. Instead of having the same people who nursed him through the primary still protecting him by saying: Don't worry Barack. If you lose we'll blame it all on the Clintons.
It's time for Obama and his supporters to start taking a little responsibility.

Chloe,
Obama folks will stop blaming Clintons when the Clintons stop acting like petulant children who got their ice cream taken away from them. He won, she lost. Now, if we can deal with that reality, the Obama can go out and earn the votes and Clintonites can stop demanding that he genuflect upon hearing her name (and paying her debt). Call it even.
I think Chuck Todd put it best. The Clinton pooh bahs in her entourage were so used to being the first in line, that they're resentful of not having power anymore.

Chicago Annenberg Challenge Shutdown?
"The problem of Barack Obama’s relationship with Bill Ayers will not go away. Ayers and his wife, Bernardine Dohrn were terrorists for the notorious Weather Underground during the turbulent 1960s, turning fugitive when a bomb — designed to kill army officers in New Jersey — accidentally exploded in a New York townhouse. Prior to that, Ayers and his cohorts succeeded in bombing the Pentagon. Ayers and Dohrn remain unrepentant for their terrorist past. ... Although Obama actually launched his political career at an event at Ayers’s and Dohrn’s home, Obama has dismissed Ayers as just “a guy who lives in my neighborhood,” and “not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis.”

BB, at some point, do you Obama worshippers plan to stop talking about Clinton and concentrate on trying to beat McCain? I fully expect Biden to do that tonight and the BigO to do that tomorrow night, and I fully expect you and the rest of the congregation to ignore them and continue to obsess on the Clintons. Clinton urged her supporters to support Obama and some of will. Unless you change your focus, we will be wastingour votes.
btw, Biden could not have been more complimentary of Hillary's speech than he was. But don't listen to him - after all, she didn't fellate the BigO on MSNBC, so it must not have been enough to satisfy you and the rest of your brethren.

Otherwise, shut the hell up."

Try to concentrate while reading this -- there was NEVER any claim that the "Whitey" video(s) would come out until AFTER an SoetorObama nomination and close to election day. You and others seem to have difficulty understanding the meaning of the word "after".

What is it about McCain's character that is clearly and advantage...
The man has publicly called his wife, the one responsible for his financial riches, a cun$, in front of reporters.
The man was swept up in the Keating 5...though he was cleared of criminal charges, his actions were shady to say the least.
He has changed his stand on every major position he holds except taxes in order to become more electable.
He was complicit in the bold face lies that the Bush administration put out in order to get us to war in Iraq. I am referring to his October 2001 appearance on Letterman when he said that the Anthrax sent to 2 Democratic Senators and 2 perceived liberal journalists might have come from Iraq.
Why am I the only person who has asked why Saddam Hussein would waste any Anthrax on Democrats or Liberal press? If he did, wouldn't that make Saddam a Republican?
McCain is everything he has accused Obama of being...an ambitious celebrity, who likes to portray juvenile drug humor, who will say anything and do anything in order to win the White House. What's worse is that he's willing to do it because he feels he is owed the office and not because he wants to better the country for all of us...he is so much like Bush and only wants to help his friends grow richer.

Re: Hell Freezing Over
You may have missed it, but Hell has been frozen since October 27, 2004. I'm sure Renee and Bear remember the day well.
Theologians have postulated that Hell may thaw out if the Cubs ever again win a World Series, but that's pure conjecture for two reasons. 1. It will probably never happen.
2. It's unlikely there are any Cub fans there, so why thaw it out. Why would a Loving God ever condemn any Cubs fans to hell after they've already suffered so much on Earth?

Pogo,
That's an interesting question. I have had the pleasure of sharing a lemonade with a couple of men who were decorated veterans of WWII. All have Purple Hearts and enough stars on their chests to be Generals of the Army. Their attitude is that they are tired of hearing about how he spent 5 years as a POW.
I have posted before about how the infantrymen aren't fans of the glory hounding flyboys but their opinion is that McCain not only made his bed but he chose to lie in it. Soldiers who want to live do what they are supposed to do. If it was really extraordinary, someone gives you a medal for it.
These are men who were shot, shrapneled, one was even bayoneted and they are Republicans who are tired of hearing it.

Now here's a new and different idea:
Obama Should Just Be Himself
"...... I am convinced that Mr. Obama does not need to fundamentally change his message or strategy to win over the undecideds (though a few of the refinements being suggested would be helpful). He mostly just needs to be himself -- or to be more precise, to be more of himself. No reinvention, no repositioning -- just recount the tough stands and political risks he has already taken, relentlessly reinforce those points for the next three months, and ideally look for a few opportunities to walk the change-making walk as we near November.
The unions' chokehold on the party (and by extension the futures of millions of black and Hispanic children) is starting to loosen..."

Since I stopped watching MSGOP months ago (well I watch if I know CC is going to be on) I had no idea about "brawling anchors."
" Scarborough declined to talk to Page Six, but sources say he and NBC anchor Tom Brokaw disagree with MSNBC's decision to position itself as the channel for George W. Bush-haters.
At a forum on Sunday, when Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell called MSNBC "the official network of the Obama campaign," Brokaw said, "I think Keith has gone too far. I think Chris has gone too far."

You are wrong again. There was never a prediction that the MO video(s) would be released before the Repubs were ready. It was my hope that they would come out. I thought It was possible that Larry Johnson's report about the anti-McCain billionaire Repub offering $1 million for the video(s) was a cover for Team Hillary to get the video(s) out before the convention. Why would Repubs want it out before his nomination? Think! If the Repubs have devastating "dirt" on MO, they would guard it until AFTER he was nominated.
Bob Beckel (D) predicted the release (next day) on the morning of the last Primary. You'll have to ask him why -- I can guess.

Bear-
Your old soldiers may have spent too long listening to their own war stories. Most soldiers don't disparage the service of others; they simply recognize that all wore the uniform and did what was asked of them.
More specifically, people in the Army Air Forces during WWII suffered horrendous casualties. Perhaps the most horrifying statistic is that of all the casualties in that branch (more than 85,000) better than 80-percent were fatalities.
Although they seldom were bayoneted, becoming a crispy critter was the form of death most experienced.
I've never heard a POW brag about being a prisoner. The ones I've know from Vietnam talked about the brutality of their captivity. But, most of all, they talked about their love of country and the personal bonds that helped one another survive.
Here are Sen McCain's decorations:

If there are more souls entering hell, as republicans and the foreign dictators they love die off, and if the boundaries of hell are fixed and immovable, then the place must be heating up. If the souls enter from the larger and expanding universe into a confined space, Boyle's Law should apply.
However, if the container which is hell is not fixed, but rather expanding as the rest of the Universe expands, cooling and entropy might overbalance the entry of souls.
Does anyone have an equation for this?

Flatus,
I know his decorations and he is fortunate that his are not disparaged in the same way John Kerry's or even Bob Kerrey's have been.
These guys didn't disparage or diminish McCain's history. They just say they are sick of hearing it. They had friends who were POW's who endured concentration camp living. They had friends who endured the living hell that was the Korean War. They told me that you would never hear someone who fought in one of those wars using the fact that they served as the entire basis for their campaign.
In what was always a telling comment about the rift between Vietnam vets and WWII or Korea vets is that the Nam boys had it easy. They never had to fight in the cold and they didn't have to get shot up in order to get home before the war was done.
