It is one of the most spectacular upsets in American political history. An unknown takes down a political dynasty. I first thought Barack Obama might be on to something when more than a year ago his supporters widely circulated this web video, a "mashup" of a 1984 Apple computer ad. The final scene shows a hip young woman wielding a long-handled sledge hammer and wearing a shirt emblazoned with the Obama logo. She tosses the hammer at a video screen depicting Hillary Rodham Clinton, and the screen explodes. This video can be remembered as a touchstone for how a supposedly invincible frontrunner tonight became just another runner-up.

He can scratch with his middle finger all he wants and John McCain will put him in his place.

It has been reported that HRC said she would be open to being on the ticket if it would help the Dems reclaim the White House. I think this is reasonably clever:
-Obama has to take her or be very delicate in risking further alienating her supporters
- she remains in good standing with the DNC (although I don't think she needs them to remain in the Senate for a long time).
- She is in the scene should a nasty Obama scandal break,

I saw the second plane crash into the tower and made my way downtown to help.
I worked there helping for weeks as did a thousand other people.
An usually high level of people who were on that site developed NHL or similar leukemias: hematologists in the city consider it to have been a mini-epidemic among those who were downtown. And the level of illness remains higher in Manhattan and Brooklyn than it had prior to the attack.

You were there and you use THAT name to attack people in!?!!? SERIOUSLY!?!??! Was I in NYC? No, I was up crying every night, sick to my stomach and praying for people that I knew would never be found, but my heart wouldn't let go. I'd NEVER dishonor those people by using that name for something like this. I didn't sleep well for weeks, remembering the people who threw themselves from the building to avoid the fire.
'Cocktails' and 'Hep C' taunts are fitting tributes, to you?

Obama rejected ANY play regarding racial division (even if you take the most cynical view that he did it because it would backlash on him and cause voters to divde on race) THAT makes more sense than claiming that he would run off white voters in a 'race war'. African Americans are less than 15 percent of the population. Obama didn't talk about racial discrimination (even when his offices were vandalized and spray painted with racist graffitti).

But because she made the deeply foolish mistake of not endorsing him or acknowledging him as the victor, she will get the position. Or, if you believe Howard Fineman, the whole VP story on the part of the Clintonites is pure theatre.

Hello Hillary folks,
If you have a moment, go to HillaryClinton.com and write a note to her to let her know you still support her.
Hillary has power behind her--over 18 million voters who didn't
support Obama. This year, the people didn't choose the Democratic
nominee, the neuvo-liberals and the disfunctional, Howard Dean DNC did.
Isn't it interesting that Obama began his Campaign for Change railing

That's right. It's inspiring that the very seat of government, the White House, where Obama will soon sit was built on the backs of dehumanizing slave labor.
In terms of how the history of this country has been shaped, I think it's fairly easy to see that Obama's historic candidacy trumps that of a privileged white women. This is not to deny the deep-rooted legacy of sexism and misogyny in this country, but it's abhorrent that so many HRC supporters refuse to even *acknowledge* what a happy day this is for black folks all across this country.
I'm beginning to think that the recent SNL skit was dead one: my supporters are racist; I have no ethical standard; and I am a sore loser

She missed a real opportunity tonight, and I hope Obama doesn't forget it, no matter how strong the pressure becomes to include her on the ticket.
Instead of looking to the future of the country, she chose to use tonight as a bargaining chip for a game she will likely lose.

I love this whole four delegates BS. You know, this country, from the very beginning made its mark by stealing everything you could possibly define as humanity from black folks. * Despite raising a record amount of money in the primaries, Obama has also spent the most of any candidate to get to this point. Together with the DNC he will begin the next phase of the campaign with less cash on hand than Senator McCain’s campaign and the RNC.
* The DNC itself faces nearly a 9:1 cash-on-hand disadvantage versus the RNC.
Turned off half the Democratic Party and no money
Good Job. You may have won the primary but in November you will be the losers
Posted by: Not Bush | June 4, 2008 1:00 AM
* A recent poll by Pew in May shows that fewer than half (46%) of Clinton supporters expect the Democrat party to “unite solidly behind” Obama – down from 58% in March.
* Obama’s primary election coalition of urban voters, young voters, ideologically liberal voters, and elites is far too narrow to sustain him amid a center-right general election electorate. His coalition more resembles the losing coalitions of John Kerry, Michael Dukakis, and George McGovern than it does a supposedly new type of candidate with broad appeal.
* Many key constituencies that are necessary for a winning coalition in November have voted overwhelmingly against Obama in the Democrat primaries. Obama has time and time again failed to connect with rural voters, union voters, Catholic voters, senior voters, Hispanic voters, and women.

I love how Clintonites say that Barack should have waited. LOL What the hell does that say about your candidate? She was qualified and lost to an underdog? Perhaps that says experience (even as dodgy as her "35 years of experience" was) isn't as important as ideas?
Going to bed. See y'all later
Barack Obama: Democratic Presidential Candidate
Posted by: Mr. Democrat | June 4, 2008 1:01 AM
* Obama will not be able in the general election to count on many of the states that fueled his primary campaign. Recent public polling shows Obama losing to John McCain in at least half of the states that he won in the Democrat primaries.
* Obama faces difficulties defending key states that were won by John Kerry and Al Gore in the last two Presidential elections. Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania are each polling competitively or in favor of McCain, as is New Hampshire, which voted in favor of John Kerry in 2004.
* McCain is attracting large numbers of Democrat voters, which significantly undermines Obama’s base. The most recent Newsweek poll (5/23) shows 19% of Democrats favoring McCain over Obama, and 7% undecided. By contrast, Obama only attracts 7% of GOP voters, with only 4% undecided.
* According to May data from Rasmussen Reports, one quarter of Democrats trust McCain more than Obama on the issues of the Economy (25%) and National Security (28%) – as compared to only 13% and 7% of Republicans (respectively) who trust Obama more. Similarly, less than two thirds of Democrats trust Obama more on the issues of the war in Iraq (66%) and Taxes (64%).

Well it is past my bedtime. I have to work tomorrow. I think I will check out Coast to Coast.

Oh, come now, everybody.
I can't speak for all of the Obama supports, nor would I. But tonight's a good night for us, and we are by for the minority on this message board. We all came here because, to some degree or another, we enjoyed and respected Craig's trenchant analysis of the political scene. Give us this night - because we know we won't get it tomorrow - to have a bit of fun and engage in some merriment and comedy.
All's fair in love and politics.
This is a good community, and if I've been abrasive tonight, it's only out of the spirit of fun.

"I'm ashamed of you this evening. At a time when you could have rose to the occasion to acknowledge the first black nominee candidate of the Democratic Party you chose to grand stand your own self interest. This is why you lost Hillary. Good-bye. And you call yourself a person of civil rights. What a joke! Ruth,
I know it seems hard to imagine, given the amount of HRC supports on this board, but even tonight there's evidence that many of her people are moving to Obama.
Divided government? Sure. You don't care about the supreme court, education, or the NLRB.
Protest vote? Ok.
In the end, your kind will dwindle.
I will give you the respect to mourn your loss tonight. But in the coming future, you're either with the left or with the right. You're either for a progressive vision of America or you're for a conservative, pro-business, war-mongering, anti-civil liberties world where all of suffer.
The choice is up to you.
You may dislike me. You may dislike many Obama supporters in general. But you guys will come around. And if you don't - you have only yourselves to blame.

Politics of U,
You are so wrong about Clinton supporters being only 5% of the
Dem electorate.
Obama has been picking up a steady stream of insulted women over the last couple of months--many crossover voters--
not to mention the growing numbers of Hispanics and working class
white voters who have recently decided they'll never vote for Obama.
But, dream on.

If Obama is anything like his supporters on this blog ,i don't think i will be coming around
And as far as me saying my husband is a racist,It was a comment that I know he does not accept black equality as I understand by comments he has made. But it is not something he focuses on or is part of our daily life.My children have not been exposed to this feeling as it is not something he expresses to anyone other than me.I was only using it as an example because he is going to vote for Obama in spite of it.And I am not a racist, even tho I have been accused of being so,and I will not vote for Obama.
And if I mention race in any of my posts it is because Obama supporters are the ones bringing it up and accusing me of racism. And I just defend myself.
And if this offends you, then it's too damn bad

I mean, jesus, how often do we read these HRC supporters who write that she still has a shot, that the delegates haven't all decided, that her campaign will press forward, etc. Man, and to think that for a while I actually thought you were a political foe!
I'm glad we're friends.

At the most 60% of the registered voters turnout
In SC the turnout in the primaries was less than 40%.
Comparing total registration is stupid, of course consider the source.

Obama is Not the Official Nominee
"Votes are cast at the convention in August. Superdelegates can change their mind any time before then. If this went to an open convention, even pledged delegates would be released from their pledge after the first vote.
This does not mean it's going to the convention. It means that until one candidate drops out, there can be no winner because the number of delegates that candidate has can change any time until the convention.
Until and unless Hillary Clinton publicly suspends or ends her campaign and concedes that Obama is the nominee, there is no nominee. There is only a statement that if current delegate positions at this moment were frozen in time until August he would be the nominee."

Ok, folks. It's been a fun night. What a historical moment for the democrats! We all wrestled around this eve, but remember: no hard feelings.
I'm glad you indulged us minority Obama supporters tonight. No doubt, we'll be put back in our marginalized positions tomorrow. But tonight you were gracious: you gave this dog his day.
I now secede the message board back to the majority faction. Hopefully in time we'll convince you guys to come on over to the Obama camp. It's nice. It's hopeful.
Though I by no means think of myself as an eloquent, competent, gracious, witty, charming, or polite ambassador for the Obama camp, I do, in all seriousness, hope some of you HRC fans take a deep breath and, without any ideological prejudices in mind, take a look at what Obama has to offer.
Best!

Most telling about Clinton's character:
There are 2 reasons Clinton offered NO DECISION tonight:
1. to Preserve the tantalizing (but absurd) possibility that she will take the fight to the convention so that donors will cough up more cash in the mistaken belief they are funding and earnest campaign while all they are really doing is paying off her debt (which goes directly to her friends like Mark Penn anyway)
2. to avoid alienating the rest of the Democratic power-brokers she needs to have any sort of career in Washington after this election who would blame her for dividing the party by taking the fight to the convention.
She knows where her bread is buttered. An 3rd party run is ridiculous. All her donors are tapped out.
All this is just evidence of how selfish HRC really is. Vote for whoever you want. I don't care if you vote for Obama. I never tried to convert anyone here. I might even vote for Ron Paul in the GE. I am just galled at the audacity and shamelessness of the whole Clinton Crew who would pilfer those who have worked so hard for them. No joke.
I called the donors here 'suckers' just out of the hope that it would jostle you into realize you're being scammed. I realize that's a bitter pill to swallow. Save your money. You'll need it for gas this summer.

Folks,
The good thing is that this campign has shown us who true people are.
A mask is something that sticks to someone for a certain time, and falls off when the time is there.
How long can you hold on to a mask?
Do you sleep with it, Do you take it off before you go to bed?
Do you instill it in the morning..
Masks give a peak, but fail to show the full side
Masks continue to send waves from something that is actually not there.
But somewhere.....along the way....masks crack!
The crack becones visible and the immaculateness will be gone......
On the other hand,
A big shout out to my girl HRC for going all the way!
Thanks for showing that " a quitter never wins, and a winner never quits".
You showed me HRC that no matter what the odds are...you keep on going.
That no matter how difficult the road is, you keep on striving!
Hail Madame. You convinced me once again, that my road is also not paved (LOL), but I will make it.
Now, one final note form my dad. When I was about 7 years old, I was practicing the karate sport. Every quarter we had a competetion. I was up against this small guy from Fort Lauderdale, I thought..this was going to be an easy one for me. Well...he beat me to the curb, I was nowehere...I lost fare and square.
That night my dad told me: Sometimes, the winner has to lose, in order to regroup. To get the feeling what it is to lose, in order to truly appraiate the win next time!
My advise to HRC: Suspend the campign for now! Everyone knows, you are actually the winner.
This black man stands behind you madame!
A salute from a US citizen in Amsterdam.
And a big, hearthy thank you to Craig, for giving us a forum to talk and trying to be as objective as posible...Lord knows we needed it!
Now.
Time to sit out this election cycle as promised. Congrads to the BO squad, unfortunately I will not vote for him come November.

Obama tried to get his white grandmother out from under the bus in his speech.
This is good:

Craig, an interesting analogy with between the runner-up Hillary and the runner-up Apple for which that ad was made. Kind of ironic and a good choice.
OKayeee then, I'm ready to start supporting the Dem candidate which turned out to be Obama. He's GOT to beat McCain. That's all there is to it.
The rest is behind us now. I voted, in Texas, twice for Hillary. But if it's Obama, then it's Obama. Pull yourselves together, people, and make some united sense now.

Last night must have been a relief to our friend Senor Horsedooty, the Yellow Dog, as he has been steadfast in his support for whoever the Democrats put forth.
As you know, I was bitter at how Mike Gravel and especially my fellow Ohioan Dennis Kucinich were treated and eliminated in the debates, because they proposed ideas I believe in.
Now all have been purged and Barack Obama emerges as the one.
I think McCain is senile or just stupid, as he keeps getting Sunni and Shiia all mixed up, and his supporters say he is a "maverick", but we know he is just a Bush-clone, a supporter from the start of the Iraq disaster, committed to keeping US troops there forever...literally forever.
To those here who have professed profound disgust for Hillary Clinton...how will you react if it ends up being Obama/Clinton on the ticket? If Obama picks Hillary, surely you will turn away from Obama for picking such a vile person, right?
I respect Hillary Clinton this morning as I always have, and I hope she is the VP candidate on the ticket.
It will be difficult, I bet, for you Clinton haters to vote for an Obama/Clinton team.
It shouldn't have had to be like that. The hatred and attacks on this blog the past few months certainly went way beyond polite or even heated discussion that the former Crawfordslist was a proponent of.
So now Hillary is vanquished and Obama is anointed.
Long Live The King.
Any more attacks on Hillary will be kicking a dead horse, so stop it right now.
For chrissakes, didn't you hear what Obama said about Hillary last night?
