I think Pawlenty would be good because he is not bad on the eyes and he's not likely going to be divisive. is Minnesota a good place geographically for a Vice-Presidential candidate in this election cycle where the nominee is from Arizona? I know it helped when Carter ran because he was from the South and Mondale expanded the terrain as it were.

Just responding to Warren, I think that an objective read of the Republicans understands they think Obama is the weaker opponent. Not all but the majority, McCain, Rove and others seem to agree. Yes, many Republicans who think Hillary cannot win the nomination because of Democratic blindness support Hillary to drag out the fight. I do not think it is over and the coming results will show why Hillary should win the nomination.
Same reason that despite Israel Valequez being down on points, won his rematch trilogy. He would have beaten his opponent if the fight had gone on another twenty seconds. He was crushing him. Despite that, his opponent claims the unfair low blow call blew it for him. To make the anaology fitting, there were several low blows not counted....

Dear Flatus,
I have officially moved to NBC after a year and productive stint with FOX News. Starting today, you will begin receiving notices about my appearances on NBC and MSNBC news and political shows. With election and economic news increasing, the appearances will be frequent.
This evening starting at 6:00 pm EST, 5:00 pm CST I will join the MSNBC news "Decision 08" team to provide analysis of the election results from Indiana and North Carolina. The coverage will last through the evening.

Gidg, no, Lieberman doesn't win - in fact, since he still claims to caucus with the Dems, I doubt that notwithstanding his McCain butt grabbing of late he would be able to convince the Rep powers that be that he could help the ticket (he would energize dems who otherwise wouldn't vote to get off their tookuses and vote against him).

The RNC sent out a census early this year to various members. In the cover letter, the Clintons were mentioned no less than 6 times. Three of the questions were about Senator Hillary Clinton herself. The gist of the entire thing was, you must send us money so we can keep the Clintons out of the White House. I think they hate the Clintons so much because they have never figured out how to defeat them. Maybe all the pretense of supporting Hillary is simply to turn her own party against her. And it's working pretty well, in certain circles.

Gidg - not a boycott as such, just turned my attention to other things. I catch a little in the morning (< 30 min., and that's before the first guest comes on at 6:30), and seldom see anything in the evening now that the weather is clement, soccer season is in full swing and KO has turned his ire from Shrub to Hillary. If Craig mentions that he'll be on, I try to catch that, but that hasn't been frequent recently, and I have not seen Harold on MSNBC for a while. If either one of them starts showing up on Abrams, I'll start watching again.

Hello Lee Atwater and Karl Rove. The Republicans don't hate the Clintons because of the "take no prisoners " style. Republicans hate the Clintons because they are Democrats who didn't fold under Republican bullsh-t.

A little side line to the subject of Morning Joe.
A few months back, Joe and Mika agreed to take one side or the other to keep the conversation going. Appearently Joe has Hillary's side when he is not interjecting republican talking points and Mika has Obama when she is not regerjetating Democratic talking points.
This is how they keep and audience and good healthy discourse. This is how a truly good show acts.

warren, I don't need to tell myself anything - and I'm not the one whining about the mean Clintons.
sturg, interesting derivation - from Wiki:
In 1820, a U.S. Congressman, whose district included Buncombe County, unintentionally contributed a word to the English language. In the Sixteenth Congress, after lengthy debate on the Missouri Compromise, members of the House called for an immediate vote on that important question. Instead, Felix Walker rose to address his colleagues, insisting that his constituents expected him to make a speech "for Buncombe." It was later remarked that Walker's untimely and irrelevant oration was not just for Buncombe--it "was Buncombe." Thus, buncombe, afterwards spelled bunkum and then shortened to bunk, became a term for empty, nonsensical talk.
See, I was misspeling it all along.

You gotta love the newly all important Obama surrogate Joe Andrew. Sunday, just 2 days ago, he was giving a Joe Namath guarantee that Barack Obama would win Indiana. Now I am watching him on MSNBC (the Obama News Network, as Chris "Tweety" Matthews admitted) claiming it would be a miracle like parting the Red Sea if Obama comes close in Indiana.
Andrew, the DC lawyer/lobbyist, is a hoot.

As I post, John Gibson is discussing Obama's new "Pastor Problem" on his radio show - Rev Otis Moss III. I noticed that Moss hit Right Wing radio last week. Obama has called Rev Moss a "wonderful young pastor," and an acceptable choice to replace retiring pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright. If this goes mainstream TV, Obama will be running away from him.

"But, after a few seconds, she affected a funny voice. 'I want to rip his eyes out!' she said, clawing at the air with her fingernails. One of her advisers gave her a nervous look. 'Kidding!' Obama said. 'See, this is what gets me into trouble."

The figures on closer in NC are based on a large turnout being helpful to Clinton. Obama was 16% a head based on early voting demographics but election day voters split with a slight trend for Clinton.

MSNBC...as it tries to swim its way out of it's own tsunami of Obama drool, misses the main headline based on its very own MSNBC exit polls:
"Obama rides swell of uneducated blacks to victory in North Carolina"
Honestly, if you watched Norah in all her mini-skirted glory...that was the only news...but it was the only thing she DIDN'T talk about. Hillary bascially won all the other demo groups in N.C., not to mention Indiana.
Wow. Based on that, I'm so excited about the Democratic prospects in November. All I can think of is the fact that the highest error rates on ballots in Florida in 2000 were in low-income, black precincts. Diebold will be eating Obama's "base" for breakfast.
See you in 2012, gang. Maybe by then McCain will have screwed up the world even more and the Dems will have ANOTHER mortal lock on the presidential election (not!).

Mr. Crawford
I called into CSPAN tonight and spoke to you. Indeed the sleeper issue of this election: DEATH. If people vote for McCain they vote to continue a REPUBLIKLAN Party FDA that killed thousands of vioxx users, a REPUBLIKLAN NASA that killed 14 astronauts, a REPUBLIKLAN Defense department that killed 1 million innocent Iraqis, a REPUBLIKLAN Mine Safety and Health administration that killed several coal miners and a REPUBLIKLAN FEMA that let thousands die in New Orleans.
I'm proud of America but Ashamed of the REPUBLIKLAN Party. The Republiklan party kills people plain and simple and that gives independent voters several reasons not to vote for McLame.
Go to this website and take back America. http:////democratz.org
Call Republican contributor Rite Aid Pharmacies at 800 325 3737 and tell the person that you want the Rite Aid CEO to get the congress and the President to enact HR 676 single payer universal health care and repeal Medicare Part D and place the drug benefit in Medicare Part B covering 80% of the cost of drugs with no extra premiums, no extra deductibles, no means tests, no coverage gaps, and remove the means test for Medicare Part B and until that happens, you won't buy ANYTHING from Rite Aid.
Call Republican contributor Wendy's restaurants at 614 764 3553 and tell the person in that you want their CEO to get the congress and the President to enact a $10/HR MIN. WAGE into law and until this happens you will not go to a Wendy's Restaurant.
Call your local Exxon/Mobil gas station and tell the manager that you will not get your car repaired there, nor will you buy gasoline there until their parent company sets their price so that they can sell you gasoline for $1.75 a gallon. Then only do business with other gas stations. We will no longer stand for $3 a gallon gasoline.
Call GOP contributor and war contractor General Electric Corporation at 800 386 1215 and tell the person, that you want the GE CEO to get Bush to end the war in Iraq and then Bush resign with Cheney and until that happens you will not buy any GE products and that you will tell your friends. Then call a local appliance store that sells GE products and tell the person you will not buy any GE products from their store until they can convince the GE CEO to convince George W Bush to end the war.

Obama was first supposd to win Indi, yes? He will lose that State. Obama was expected to win NC and has done that with 90% voting by AAs. The dynamic hasn't changed and the margin of the NC vote will come down. Still Obama calls NC a big state and a swing state that needs him to be won in the GE.
Nothing new for me tonight. And the comments by Obama supporters are class. Clinton should stick a fork in Obama's balloon and see how far it spurts.
It's all okay. I congratulate Obama for at least winning NC with the campaigning that Jason was so kind to share with us. I don't doubt Obama will have his surrogates call McCain supporters racists. He has practically has that already the day McCain was visiting poor Blcak towns in the South. What a complete mess. Should Flordia be seated after Hillary is forced out, I can predict the results as surely as I knew them tonight. Craig knew them too. And which talking head (a Black woman) said on CNN the Democrats don't need the blue collar white vote? What genius, what aplomb. Bravo. This all makes it so much easier for this racist to decide.........

So we win another big state and you win Indiana and both campaigns win big one more time. But sooner of later we have to come back together.

Obama's natural base numbers would give him around a 10pt lead in NC, If he doesn't do 10% he is falling behind. He isn't even keeping the base together.
As is seems like almost every election, He gets blacks , college kids and latte liberals. She gets women and the working vote. Same story different day.

I guess it was alright for Israel to drop cluster bombs, which is banned for use in populated areas, that killed Lebanese Christians in Lebanon when they drop all those bombs recently.
And since you believe that its alright to Torture those in our custody makes you no better than the War Criminals currently running it.
And no I am not anti semantic, I find it very troubling for those of Jewish Heritage to side with those who use the same tactics as many other Dictators around the world both past and present use.
With Hitler it was Gypsies, Blacks and Jew's. With many Americans today it is Blacks, Hispanic's and Muslims.
I remember Tancredo once saying we shouldn't elect any Muslim to hold public office before a Muslim won a seat in Congress. He's a true Whites Only American and a bigot and racist.
You sound just like him in your anti Muslim comments you post all the time. I wouldn't be surprised if you were a member of the KKK or the American Nazi Party. So screw you and what you think of me because I don't give a flying **ck.

Excuse me? There are SDs who have actually said out loud that it's okay if Obama loses? And their view of the Democratic Party of the future is based on a losing presidential election! I am dumbfounded, perhaps he misspoke, but I'm having such a hard time imagining it to be true.

I still think the democratic party has given Hillary a raw deal.If Obama gets the nomination he will lose general,so our only chance is for Hillary to run as a third party candidate.I think she can win it if everyone gets a chance to vote including Fla.and Mi. and all those voters who were disenfranchised with the caucuses. Then we will finally have three viable parties and may the best candidate win.The way the party has treated the Clinton's,she owes them no loyalty.

HEAD-TO-HEAD WITH MCCAIN: In a hypothetical general election match-up with McCain, Clinton wins handily (50-41) while Obama is virtually tied with McCain (46-44), according to the AP-Ipsos poll released Monday. A new poll from CBS/NYT show Clinton beating McCain by five points (48-43), while Obama ties McCain (45-45). The new Fox poll has Clinton beating McCain by one point (45-44), while Obama trails McCain by three points (43-46). And in Gallup's daily tracking poll, Clinton leads McCain by one point (46-45) while Obama trails McCain by two points (44-46).
"SWING STATES: New Quinnipiac polls out today show Clinton dramatically outperforms Obama in the critical swing states of Ohio in Florida. In Ohio, Clinton beats McCain by ten points (48-38), while Obama loses to him by one point (43-44). In Florida, Clinton beats McCain by 8 (49-41), while Obama loses to him by one point (42-43). Hillary also tops McCain by 14 points in Pennsylvania (51-37), while Obama's lead over McCain is in single digits.

Nobody told Ronald Reagan to take the high road
and get out.
And the fact is, the media's get-out-now push is unparalleled. Strong second-place candidates such as Ronald Reagan (1976), Ted Kennedy, Gary Hart, Jesse Jackson, and Jerry Brown, all of whom campaigned through the entire primary season, and most of whom took their fights all the way to their party's nominating conventions, were never tagged by the press and told to go home.
"Clinton is being held to a different standard than virtually any other candidate in history," wrote Steven Stark in the Boston Phoenix. "When Clinton is simply doing what everyone else has always done, she's constantly attacked as an obsessed and crazed egomaniac, bent on self-aggrandizement at the expense of her party."

What the Clinton campaign did not get (and in particular Chief Pollster - Mark Penn) - just because they base their decisions on "polls" - does not mean that everyone else should base their decisions on "polls".
To quote Dick Cheney: "So?"
Polls are NOT facts.

So,
Obama maniacs
How does your man get out of the box he has put himself in.
He can only win in urban areas and college towns.
He has little support out side of those areas. Most especially the important swing votes in the suburbs and exurbs.
His 2 cochairs of his campaign have behaved in a shameful manner toward women. They and other supporters have insulted women from coast to coast with impunity never once even chastised by Obama himself. His scorched earth style of campaigning has isolated himself from half the democratic party and this half of the party is the one that finds it easy to walk away.
So he has 1/2 of 35% of the voters supporting him. He has pissed off as many as he has attracted
Never mind that says it all
lol.
This party is so fing screwed.

I haven't seen Craig on C-Span and am sorry to hear that he is not happy with us bloggers, but I'm not surprised. The comedian Ron White says his sister is a doctor and his brother is a lawyer and he hates Thanksgiving. I agree with his sentiment, even if the sister is the lawyer and brother the doctor, and hope the kidding is really just kidding now.
harborwoman and Jason, did you see my comments to you on the last day?
Jeffrey Toobin just made some really good comments on the lateness of the reporting fromLake County. He said it's disgraceful (my word) and reeks of the old days of Chicago politics, counting votes only till they had the number they need.
I was in college in Illinois when JFK and RMN slugged it out. The whole thing c came down to Chicago and Cook county. All the kids from C hicago got a good laugh out of it - they knew what Cook Co would do. I was surprised at what Toobin said - it was a really strong criticism and came close to questioning the count.

Donna Brazile and many Obama supporters (see Chris Bowers for instance) think Democrats can win in November without white working class voters. I believe they are wrong.
Barack Obama's "big night" was not fueled by solving this electability problem. He lost whites in North Carolina by 61-37. He lost whites in Indiana by 60-40. He won African Americans 91-7 in North Carolina. He won African Americans in Indiana by 92-8.
Obama won North Carolina because African Americans were 33% of the vote. Obama kept it close in Indiana because African Americans were 15% of the vote. In terms of the electability problems Obama is facing, nothing changed tonight. And West Virginia next week will confirm that. More . . .

Axelrod has given up and gone home and issued this statement
Graceless loser?
Via Fox: David Axlerod attributes Hillary's better numbers in Indiana to Rush Limbaugh.
It was an open primary. 11% of voters in the Democratic primary said they were Republicans -- half of those said they voted for Hillary. There's no support for the theory that this 5.5% listened to Rush. It's just as likely they are sick of Bush and don't like McCain and prefer Hillary to Obama. 5.5% voted for Obama. Maybe they listened to Rush but decided Obama is the more unelectable against McCain and wanted him to be the nominee to help McCain win in November. Six of one, half dozen of the other.
Obama urged Republicans and Independents to register as Dems and vote for him in earlier primary caucuses and primaries. I guess what's good for the goose isn't good for the gander in Obama's world.
Posted by: Axelrod says it's over | May 6, 2008 11:46 PM
Gary, IN -- Is that were the footage of the Obama campaign working to persuade voters inside the 40 foot line -- actually inside the polling place? I sent that to a friend on the BOE here in VA and she was appalled that was going on in IN, saying that heads would roll if something like that happened here. .

It is 6 am here and I got to get to work. My reaction is that this race, if not over, is certainly close. I know Hillary does not want to quit, and maybe I am wrong, but I think it's not feasible to go on. I am disappointed and surprised at the NC margin and worried about what will happen when Gary Indiana manipulates its vote count. It is clear to me that the DNC has no intention of "seating" the Florida or Michigan delegations in any way that could alter Barack Obama's delegate strength.

We don't really need to hear what you believe the Fascist Republicans will do in November. We all know what the bigoted racists will do as we've seen it over and over again.
You are trying to brainwash the Obama supporters as well as the Clinton supporters about who's electable and who's not.
The Republicans would like nothing better than to have Hillary the nominee since that would unite their base like it hasn't been in a long time.
But go ahead and keep it up, its nice seeing the Republicans like you sweating about the election come November. That is if we have elections.

Rez -- I've been an election observer in states where voter suppression is a problem, namely NC and VA. In VA we are not allowed to have any signage from the campaign -- which is what was on the sign inside that polling place. I've seen voting "assistance" in Charlotte NC where we were able to run off the white GOP goon squads threatening the older black people, challenging their right to vote, only to find out much later on election day that the GOP had voter assistants inside the polling places asking certain people - mostly black, mostly elderly, some disabled -- if they would like some help with voting. Then they would go inside the voting booth with the voter and "help" them vote! In that large-percentage black district, the DEM congressional candidate lost by a hair, and went overwhelmingly for Jessie Helms.
Election officials are far from perfect. I've had to set many of them straight on Voting Rights and election laws. If there was a GOP voter assistant "helping" in some of the precincts around here -- I know that some of the EOs would not run them off -- unless I called them on it and even then not until I threatened to call the BOE and our party lawyers.

S Alicia, if I get what you said;
this may or may not have been proper (legal) depending on State law. And if it not legal then the EO may have just turned the other way because they supported Obama.
All of which is speculative on our part. But the implication is that this was a concerted widespread strategy of the Obama campaign. I sure don't know that. If so it was improper and I'm sure someone will be held to account.
The reason i was thinking aid for voter suppression is because of the voter ID law in IN which lends itself to problems.
Ultimately, do you honestly think a table set-up like i saw in the video would result in changing the outcome.
