Once again, thanks to the way Democrats assign convention delegates (no "winner take all"), Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama are destined to register a near-even split of Tuesdays take and remain short of the numbers needed to clinch the nomination.
CQ Politics examined the delegate hunt for Tuesday’s primaries in Indiana and North Carolina . . .
INDIANA: “This analysis gives Clinton a 24 to 23 edge over Obama in the race for the 47 district-level delegates — with the disclaimer that this is a projection and not a hard-and-fast prediction, because of the convoluted way in which the delegates will be distributed.” (Greg Giroux, CQ Politics)
NORTH CAROLINA: “Obama is likely to receive just a slight majority of the state’s 77 district-level delegates because of how the delegates are distributed. CQ Politics projects that Obama is likely to receive 40 of the district-level delegates to Clinton’s 37.” (Marie Horrigan, CQ Politics)

And, so what's wrong with the nuclear option?? And, what's wrong with a Democratic Republican Party composed primarily of moderate to left leaning Republicans, and moderate to right leaning Democrats?
Seems to me, that takes in the vast majority of voters.
A pox on the Republican extreme right and the Democratic extreme left. Those two wings make truly representative government virtually impossible to achieve.

Good evening all;
Did anyone else notice how the Obama camp manages to make a race claim on the cusp of the primaries? For instance, it was the cusp (eve and morning) of the Mississippi primary when Susan Rice appeared on most major news channels to make claims against Geraldine Ferraro. Again, on the cusp of the Pennsylvania primary, Ms Rice made direct racial claims toward Bill Clinton. Today it was the good Doctor Dean who appeared and made the 'race baiting' charge against the GOP. Certainly the Obama camp put pressure on the DNC chairman this time. Is there a viable pattern dating to the first primaries? It certainly must stir the targeted voters. Anyone else notice?

Hey all
Jamie, your polls seem to show what I saw yesterday with the Obama crowd. They were sounding desperate. Mrs. Obama sounded really bad last night,. I think a compassionate husband would say "Honny , take a break you need a couple of days rest. There is always tomorrow." She looked like my wife after putting together one of her 100 million dollar bid proposals.
LOL
As a wise husband I just let her rant and make sure she gets rest and good food. She usually puts in 3 weeks of 14- 20 hr days at the end.

WJack: Cinco de Mayo is the classic example of winning a battle and losing the war. The French went on to install Maximillian as Emperor of Mexico. By the way, Cinco de Mayo is hardly celebrated in Mexico. It's acknowledged all right but Cinco de Mayo became an American celebration when Corona cerveza made it popular 20 or 25 years ago. Most Americans, unfortunately, equate Cinco de Mayo with the Mexican revolutions of either the 1810 from Spain or the 1910 revolution. Not true: Independence days are September 15 and 16 in celebration of separating from Spain in 1810 and not solidified until 1821.

One of the best days/nights of my life was spent in the company of Robert Coogan (Jackie's baby brother). At the time I met him, he had retired from movies and was living on a yacht in Ensenada harbor as an expatriate and supporting his incidentals by writing articles on how to be a gourmet cook in a galley for marine magazines.
A group of friends would gather to eat, swim and over indulge on weekends. One weekend I had to return to LA early and he offered to drive since my car was staying behind and he had business back in the states.
When a gourmet takes you on a ride, just be thankful you get home in one piece. With the stops in Ensenada, Rosarita, San Diego, and all great Mexican restaurants north complete with more music and food than any human being was meant to consume in a multi hour period, all conversed and presented in fluent Spanish accompanied by eager mariachis all of who know your host - heaven help you if you didn't at least taste or drink.
Once everything wore off, I managed to remember about half of it.

Some days you take them when get them.
Yes, I know when to celebrate Mexican Independence day. I live in one of those neighborhoods.
I celebrate it every September with my amigos at Colima Park
One of my success stories from when I was community organizing was a group of Mexicanos most of them from Colima. Together we cleaned out an overgrown trash strewn vacant lot and turned it into a pocket park. If you ever run across a community organizing expert who tells you Mexicans are culturally not able to understand community action(and you will, as I have) tell them they are full of shit for me.

I don't know that I've ever come across a community organizer making those kinds of statements inasmuch as I live in Arizona and the community organizers are, for the most part, Mexican Americans. The AZ Republic reported this morning that AZ is now 30 percent Hispanic, the overwhelming majority of whom are Mexicanos and/or their decendents, including my own family's history.

Ah, WJack, you've just struck the strings of my heart. Lola Beltran's Cucurrucucu Paloma is the very best ever sung by any singer. Mexicanos really miss this first lady of Mariachi. How can this be causing damage to the party. Look at the turnouts at these rallies. Tomorrow they will get the most voters they ever had. The interest level is so high. If it was causing damage then no one would be interested. The networks are crazy. Why do they want to say this. They are hurting themselves. Why would they want their ratings to go down the tubes and people turnout for a few months until after the conventions. This is great for their ratings. I don't understand their loigic.

Most producers are brain dead. They really want only ONE STORY to tell. When there are multiple stories with shades of meaning and emphasis, the poor dears get really confused, unhappy, and twitchy.

Jamie: Keep your chin up. If it makes some Obama supporters feel better to assume we are all racists for not jumping on the Hope Float, so be it. I know my heart and I am comfortable with my choice. You should be too. I choose my choice! I choose my choice! I choose my choice! (That is from Sex and the City BTW.)

Jamie, Jack,
I'd like to point something out and then I will fall back into the shadows.
You just defended Patsi against Doots. Completely allowing what was said today, then you want to "Do as I say And Not As I DO" action with Brian.
I'd say its calling the kettle black. Like I said, see you in better happier times.
next time you all, and I mean ALL spend the better part of a day Obamaslamming and Brian gets your goat, just remember me and othes who thought had earned friendship over politics and found out the hard way that this is not so.

Jamie,
I know it hurts to be called racist but consider the source. He isn't worth your time and do not let him drive you off this blog like he has others. He is mearly a small child who can only get people to acknowledge his presence if he is snotty and throws tantrums. The people who make excuses for him are only enablers but apparently even they can't give him the attention he craves so he has to come here. Otherwise they would all stay on their private little email chats and leave the rest of us alone. Sheila is trying to lure you away...don't pay any attention to her. If she wants to go off and read her newspapers, etc. that is great but we need you here.

Sheila, Jamie is too invested in being a victim, don't waste your key strokes, spewing hatred and painting herself the victim is what her life is about. The media is out to destroy Clinton,, the Obama supporters have the nerve to organize and win caucuses, the party elders have a lot of nerve thinking that the rules matter, the coffee colored undocumented, the black man who has the nerve to run when everyone knows it's Hillary's "turn", blah blah blah. This is what happens when people look to outside events to some how justify what has happened in their own lives.

Well that rich Jamie,
Seeing as how I was defending Doots in the first place and we were talking about Patsi's remarks and your Acquiescence......but if you can't admit what is going on here, then so be it.
Brian can always and will always be able to defend himself. He's done a great job of deflecting so far.
Go ahead and demonize the rest of us and just because we support the other Democratic candidate.
Posted by: Chef Sheila Hussein The Nun
| May 5, 2008 11:03 PM
First off, each one of us here believes in our heart that our candidate provides the best chance for the future of this country.
We are ALL aware of the critical challenges this Country faces and understand how much THIS election matters.
I certainly admit that I have let my heart and my passion for the candidate I support cloud my judgment and cause me to say stupid things about the other great Americans running for president - who, along with supporters all over - are working their asses for for what they believe is in the best intersts of this country.
I support Barack Obama for President because I think he is the best President for these times.
Obama has handled himself with grace and determination, has shown his flaws, and has won support all over the country and is building a whole new generatation of Democrats.
The Democratic base is already energized. I discount the notion that the fights between Clinton and Obama supporters will cause people to stay home. Those supporters are just becoming more and more invested in this process and they will unite to stand against the GOP. Clinton's ardent supporters will not simply walk away - they will bring the fight to the Republicans.
A few other points:
-Obama will attract anti-war Independents and Republicans, whose numbers are significant.
-Obama will be able to draw a sharp contrast with John McCain so that the Republican attack machine cannot blur the lines.
-Obama is the strongest to debate McCain on Iraq. Most observers agree that this has been Obama's greatest strength in the debates with Clinton.
Clinton supporters: Do you really want to go over to the other side and start paroting back the conventional wisdom that the youth vote can't make a difference? The youth does not make a difference when it is disaffected - it needs to be INSPIRED. And from what I've seen . . . it is not only young Americans that Obama is inspiring.
Obama IS calling a whole NEW generation to arms. This will not only impact this election - it will CHANGE the future. Both in terms of votes and public service. I believe that the energy shown by the Clinton and Obama supporters alike (as well as those for all the candidates) - can be parlayed effectively after the general election. Not everyone of course - but even a percentage of that energy could do the world a lot of good.
How can Obama make a REAL CHANGE to the way politics is conducted in Washington - you ask?
Because the new American Majority that votes for him in this election - including Democrats, Independents and Republicans, along with the growing cadre of new-age leaders on both sides of the aisle that support him - will all make sure that politicians who get in the way of OUR mandate will be cast aside - no matter who they are.
And that mandate is quite simple:
-END the Bush Doctrine and EVOLVE American Foreign Policy
-Make HEALTHCARE more AFFORDABLE and ACCESSIBLE - IMMEDIATELY - and get us on the road towards UNIVERSAL healthcare
-Stop the trickle down ECONMICS and open the
floodgates through TAXES and EDUCATION
-Pass a comprehensive IMMIGRATION bill and ensure that our boarders are SAFE
-LEAD the world on fighting terrorism, speading human rights and protecting our environment
Vote Obama and the join the New American majority. And don't worry, the Clintons will join us and BOTH will play key roles in guiding this country's FUTURE.

Sheila
read the discussion first before you jump in with both feet. Then you won't look so foolish
This whole thing started with Eurotom tweaking Nash's nose for not including his usual "Hillary is a racist "comment as he has done for the last whenever.
Dooty decided to be all offended for Nash, why? maybe because he started partying too early.
Patsi, rightly said this.
"Bullshit, Doots. Nash calls Hillary supporters racists every time he jumps off the short bus. And this man is actually in charge of some of this nation's "education."'
Then Doots started to become all offended. If he is that tender then he should stay off the frickin' internet.
Then Brian stoned and drunk weighs in making the usual fool of himself.
In the middle of this some where Jamie critisies Patsi and others for being too rough on Dooty.
The Brian does his stupid attack on Jamie calling her a racist and all of the sudden you jump in and defend Brian.
Now your claiming to be offended and You are whinning about how mean the HRC people are.
Please!!!! Give Me A frickin break!!!!
Go read the whole thing. Dooty, Brian and Nash are all grown up people. They don't need you jumpinjg in when you don't even know what is going on.
It is getting tiresome

Now, you guys want to see what you want to see. You all tend to love to engage any Obama supporter. That is all there is too it and Doots made a good point at the rudeness here.
I am backing him up. I like free speech and if you don't like my standing here and making my peace, well then ignore me. Simple as that.
YOu read 6 months back. I was whining then. This is not whining. its defending my friend Horsedooty.
I'd say, why don't you look with the colored lens off and see what we see.
And I am not going away and I'm going to make my presence known. I am not going to run and hide. i'm going to keep excersizing my freedom of expression.

This whole gas tax holiday is funny. . give everyone a few bucks before elections. This is an old ploy in Indian Country.
Don't know if many here know but with the recent growth in gaming, most tribes put out a "per cap" (per capita payment ) several times a year. Even prior to gaming, revenues from leasing , minerals ,etc., just like gaming revenues, would be shared the same way. Now they're larger and more frequent.
Point is, just like clockwork, right before any election, the incumbent tribal council members running for re-election will "share the wealth' with a per cap one week before elections to help their efforts. It's funny seeing this happen with the everyone else so blatantly with our most important election.

President Clinton has been the "small town ambassador"...he was at two small towns very near me Saturday for one-hour rallies. ( I live on the OH-IN state line)
Monday he hit about seven NC towns for rallies...I just hope he doesn't collpase from fatigue.
It was four years ago when he had his bypass surgery with post-op complications...they must have done a perfect job on his heart.
A crisis isn't when a millionaire's portfolio diminishes a few points, it's when workers have to quit jobs because they cannot afford gas to get to work.
Hillary says the oil companies should pay the 18 cents rollback and pundits and economists say the 18 cent rollback comes from the fix-the-infrastructure funds.
It's easy to preach about parking the car and riding a bicycle , and that works in places like where I lived for a year, Vietnam, but of course in this diverse nation it's ridiculous to tell a Texan to park the pickup truck and ride a subway cuz there hain't no subway.
What's really sad is that there is no solution for NOW. Tom Friedman's rants don't help a single mom who has an old car that gets 16 mpg and has to drive 15 miles to get to work...we have a problem with no solutions, only pie-in-the-sky writings about expensive super-diesels small car engines and hydrogen cars and battery powered cars that run off a clean grid...all pipe dreams now.
All we can do is STRUGGLE and watch the US government give more aid to Saudi Arabia, as if they need it.

There are a couple of you who like to rag on each other and it seems you can do it safely at times - is it really just drugs booze and hyper-sensitivity???. I am acquainted with all those factors and know that they shouldn't destroy what should be an enjoyable discussion of the current political climate and activities. It's not as if any of us is super conservative or a Bushy. If anyone is looking for a fight or a target, there are SO many blogs out there for you. Hold your fire for McCain - you'll be happy you did.
Joe Scarborough is really a Hillary fan and I wouldn't be surprised if he voted for her, given a chance. Pat
Buchanan also has respect for her, but he's too good an old-world Catholic to vote for her. I really enjoy all the insight these real veterans of electoral wars have to donate.
I don't need to hear Hillary praised, but I do need not to hear her be the villain while every mistake of Obama's is greeted with sympathy and understanding. Just be even and not judgemental - that's all we should need.
