For Hillary to take the #2 spot would be a serious insult. She should stay in the Senate. If Obama pulls off a miracle and wins the general, the Senate won't even know he's gone.

Mike Barnicle -- Where are the Super Delegates? Don't see the legions jumping to Obama as his campaign said they would.

Craig,
I think the "dream ticket" would help unite the party, but I don't think it will happen. Also, I'm not convinced it would be a winner. Both still have high negatives, as we've seen here at C-list.
I hope Hillary comes back to my state and continues to work as an over-achieving senator. Meanwhile, Senators Obama and Clinton shared the debate stage with several qualified candidates only a few months ago. I hope he'll look among that group for his running mate.
Posted by: EdVB
| May 9, 2008 6:43 AM
Patsi -- I don't want to inflame anyone here, but I couldn't help thinking that there are interns on the Hill who have more Congressional experience than Obama has.

If Obama doesn't take Hillary as his running mate -- then he needs to look outside the circle of other DEM candidates. They were all Senators. He needs a Governor. The executive experience would balance his own inexperience. A plus if the governor is from a swing state that will bring voters to the DEM ticket.

It's past the time when a dream ticket would work. She can go back to the Senate and do a wonderful job and he can go find someone else with the experience to help him do his.

Aside from Bo's obvious contempt when it comes to Clinton, why would she take the position even if offered? It would be signing up for the second coming of McGovern. Bo's going to be torn apart in the GE, you can almost hear them laughing on conservative talk radio now - he may not lose 49 states......but it's gonna be close. Dean, Brazille & Company are going to be riding the short bus after this.

Sorry! Need to revise my last comment -- I forgot about Richardson. He is a Governor -- but is we're gong on the "urn the page" and "Change, change change" then that would leave Bill R. out -- he's very much a DC insider. Maybe some personal issues that could come out in the GE.

Good Morning Alicia,
I still think both of them on the ticket, in theory, would force the best of the best to work together. They and all of their workers are aware of what is at stake and its the whole country. We are in huge trouble here and abroad.
But that said, if Senator Obama didn't get the Nom, I bet he's take VP. I'm not sure about Senator Clinton, but I wish she would.
If she didn't. The old classic say, if choose a govenor might be out. Considering that the Both senators would need an infusion of Military somewhere in the cabinet to help translate the war, The VEEP position might be the place.
Hagel isn't returning to the Senate. He could really unsettle the Republicans and do a heck of a lot of good on the ticket for both candidates.
Dem/Rep ticket, I always thought would be a great way to unify the country and smooth the way for real progress.
Just a theory.

Its interesting how Cable News has laid bare of the traiditions of the Race, that are not normally visible to the public eye,
Like this "Dance" between campaigns to get the rest of the campaign completed. Both campaigns are dealing over the lose ends and we are watching it in real time....
Interesting and yet, maybe not so good for the public's nerves.

Good morning...
Sheila, my choice would be Lincoln Chafee as VP. He was the only Republican who voted against the MCA if 2006. I believe he was also against IIRC parts of Patriot Act and other bills that stripped away many of our Constitutional Rights.
I was truly sorry to see him lose since he is a moderate who worked across the aisle for the good of the country.
On the ticket he would bring many more Republicans to Obama that are dissatisfied with their party and deny McInsane a good many votes.
God Bless.

Good morning Sheila -- The war is not the most important issue anymore. A good DOD Sec would take care of translating the war. The economy is the biggest issue and will be for some time. A business person/governor is needed. I vote for Mark Warner -- I know he's running for Senate, but he's barely gotten that started . As veep his family can still live in Alexandria, which was the issue when he dropped out of the Presidential race. He's got the DLC in the palm of his hand, and many other chits out after giving lots of money to other candidates. Warner also has very good favorability with the NASCAR demographic -- having won SW VA handily as Governor -- he is beloved in that part of the state -- even used blue grass music in his ads. Mudcat taught him well. Mark also plays basketball very well so he and Barry could play together. I might actually campaign for an Obama/Warner ticket.

For the weak minded that will not look for consistency I am sure the BHO can pull in voters (beyond the natural flock)
At some point BHO must be held accountable for positions, platforms with details and facts, and relate them to who the heck he really is and what impacts he might have. But to ask the MSM to be true journalist. Never happen as journalism is a lost profession.

The comments that are posted to the article are calling out Obama for his changing now only for his personal gain. That this CHANGE to support Florida is only because it will not hurt him.
That this again reveals more about the true Obama then the poetic flow of false words that flow from his mouth.
That the Rev Wright was right, which upset Obama, when he correctly called him a politiician.
Obama does not truly care for Florida, if he did he would have taken a stronger stance sooner
I will go add this to the comments

Sheila: That time I was NOT stating my opinion -- just stating the polling on the most important issue. The WAR is important to me, with a beloved nephew who came back from the war a changed person and committed suicide, living in high military area where so many of my friends and neighbors are going through multiple deployments, with sons aged 18 and 14 who I am doing my best to keep away from recruiters.
However, to most people, the economy is the most important. Since you want links for proof:

I think you need coffee too. I re-read the article. Its points were about seating the delgates for FLorida. Obama said, "By All Means Seat Florida". It talked about Obama speaking to Florida SD's and his campaign spokes person talking about how important and pivital Florida is.
I enjoyed it very much. There was no opinion injected in there and frankly, it was refreshing. Kudos to Orlando Sentinal. ;0)

Obama thinks a pandering offer of vp will make up for all the lies and insults?
The tone of the Obama campaign to Clinton (and Edwards when he was still in the race) will prevent any Democratic Party unity.
The general election is not a caucus.

Alicia,
There are a whole slew of BOBW as well. They may vote for Obama in November, but they aren't happy with the way they have been treated by the men and kids either after a few centuries of trying to hold families together.
I would love to see some polling on those statistics. Unfortunately poll takers rarely break racial clusters into smaller groups.

It would have to be one hell of a deal if Clinton was to join Obama--a deal I don't think Obama would be willing to make. I just don't see him ceding policy making power, of any magnitude, to Mrs Clinton.
And I don't see Mrs Clinton wanting to join a failing administration and being put in a position of being a nay-sayer rather than a supportive, collaborative participant in good governance.

Thanks, Sheila. It was a very tough time for us. He joined the Army in 1999, did year-long tours in Bosnia in 2000 and Iraq in 2003-2004. When he came back from Iraq he was different, more withdrawn, we knew something was going on with him but he would not talk about it -- always insisting he was fine. In his last letters to us, we learned that he watched with a sense of despair as his friends and siblings were going to college moving on with their lives, and felt like an underachiever. He was about to be deployed again and didn't want to go which he thought was shameful. Plus he was having money problems - just minor ones really, but huge to a 27 year old who's depressed, and overwhelmed with constant "honor at all cost" messages, he made a decision that has changed us all forever.

Clinton as veep? No way. As much as I want her to be the nominee, I admit I am feeling very discouraged today. I also just found out that my "day job" is cutting my workload so that I'll be bringing home about $40 less each week. It doesn't sound like much, but when you're a freelance writer and a single mom with a kid about to start college, every dime matters.
I will have to start putting more emphasis on earning with my blog. I don't want to seem tacky and put the link here, but anybody inclined to read it can find a link by clicking on my username here. What jamie, patsi and ed said. ( I've only read the first few posts, so if anyone else said Hillary should stay in the senate, I agree with you, too. I'm thinking Richarrdson - it may be the only way Obama, should he win in '08, may be able to ensure that Richardson won't back his opponent in '12, although I do agree with Alicia that Warner would be a good choice - BO had not been able to attract Joe Sixpack, and Warner might help some there. And please don't forget us BOWM. (Just love these abbreviations).

More tirades from Obama supporters against Mrs. Clinton are not the answer — they will only further alienate her grass-roots supporters, many of whom feel that she received a raw deal.
Nor is it helpful to insult the groups that supported Mrs. Clinton, either by suggesting that racism was their only motivation or by minimizing their importance.
After the Pennsylvania primary, David Axelrod, Mr. Obama’s campaign manager, airily dismissed concerns about working-class whites, saying that they have “gone to the Republican nominee for many elections.” On Tuesday night, Donna Brazile, the Democratic strategist, declared that “we don’t have to just rely on white blue-collar voters and Hispanics.” That sort of thing has to stop.

Speaking of a feeding frenzy, Sheila, could there be anything more annoying than watching Mika and Peggy Noonan mugging for the cameras? Yuck.
As to Sen Clinton. As hard-working and earnest as she is, wonder how she'll enjoy the future as a perpetual junior Senator, with little chance even to become a committee chair. She has done diligent work on Armed Services, but military expertise is not the reason she went into public service.
As for Obama's VP pick, he might help himself a great deal by selecting Evan Bayh. He has tons of executive experience (Secy of State and Governor before he became Senator) is a centrist, a Hillary supporter, and his father is a long-time friend of the Kennedy family.
If you care about the future of the Democratic Party you don't want Hillary to be VP because, supposing BO should be in office for 8 years, she will be far too old to run.
The reason that both candidates are so tenacious is that each of them realizes that -- given the nature of the Democratic Party--and, in Hillary's case, her age...this is both the first shot and their best shot. Neither of them will get a second chance.

There are a lot of high up democrats that have pushed Obama through, and don't think Hillary was part of the plan. She needs to try to get this, and if it's not in the cards, do her own thing.

From the previous thread:
Democratic Elitists And Their Role In Hijacking The Democratic Party!
"...You create your own candidate from a blank slate...
Howard Dean and his far-left, wealthy, and elitist backers, expected the Clinton Campaign to fold after Super Tuesday. Supported by elitist endorsements, media friendly coverage of Obama, and the disenfranchisement of millions of Democratic voters nationwide, the elitist far-left has clearly shown that this election is not about working class America but rather about power."

I AM however always fascinated by Peggy Noonan's interviews. She has proven a good eye for what is in the minds of the republicans. About 99% of the time, whatever comes out of Noonan's mouth, so goes the Republican Parrty.

Not interested: When the subject of Rev Wright first came up, I did a lot of research about him, TUCC, Black Liberation Theology, etc. Among the statements attributed to Rev Wright, I particularly remember one where he claimed "We groomed him for years for this" (I have no idea who the we is) and that "We [meaning Wright and Obama] have discussed that at some time he would have to publicly distance himself from me.
I fear that the whole thing with the recent performance was Wright egging his student on to make the break he knew he would have to make.
And BTW, for anyone who is interested as an historical fact, African-American men always "had the vote" in most of the country...even during slavery 10% of the AA population were free, and men of property could vote. Not saying it was made easy for them, but technically all free men (of whatever color) of property could vote in the US long before any woman ever cast a vote.

While I do not intend to leave the Democratic Party, I have no qualms about voting for Sen McCain, given that the Congress will be overwhelmingly Democratic. I think McCain can and will work with them and, in cases where he won't, they can over-ride him. Divided government is not always a bad thing. I am more of a centrist than a lot of the Congressional Dems. I think HRC would have checked them, but I don't think Obama will...

Pogo, sounds like you're getting a great instrument. The first review, where the fellow let a pro play it, reminded me of a friend back in Las Vegas back in '70.
He and I were really into building flying model airplanes--the desert is a really good place to fly them.
He spent a couple of hundred hours building a magnificent radio controlled model. Of course, he had no experience flying such things so he looked at the group of folks who were flying RCs and picked-out who he thought was the most competent.
When Hugh asked him if he would try his model for him, the guy happily obliged.
He did a fine take-off, gained altitude, then nose-dived into the ground. The airplane was a total loss.
Hugh was philosophical about the episode. He tore what was left apart and removed the electronic and mechanical parts that he thought he might be able to salvage and then set a match to the rest.

Unfortunately, The Republicans have been hijacked by their far rights and the Democrats have been hijacked by their far left. Those of us of more moderate inclinations no longer really have a party. The difference is that his time, the Democrats had two candidates: One that represented the middle and one that represented the left.
The media did everything but grovel and slobber over Sen. Obama and only started to even out the coverage when the writer's strike ended and the comedians started holding the obvious hero worship up to ridicule. It still hasn't been really balanced.
The real problem is where does the middle go ... has everyone learned how to count chads just in case and do you really trust Diebold?

Maybe he does need Hillary on the ticket. Since the media loves to bash her they can continue to do this and he can continue to have the free ride. Also when they do start on him she can jump in and reflect it to her by getting all the attention. I am not sure if he can handle all the trash that is going to come his way. He had trouble with the Wright issue, Ayers has not picked up steam yet but it's right around the corner. I don't think that most of Clinton's supporters were racists at the beginning of her campaign, but those who still stand with her today? Yes. They are racists.

But now I see my Party just running away from me. I don't blame Florida for Al Gore's loss...I blame the left wing of the Democratic Party, that 5% who voted for Nader and who now blog in the Huffington Post. I still have my Kerry bumpersticker on my car, although I think he was a piss-poor candidate. When I listen to some of the House Dems talking, I wonder what happened to my party. I AM Fighting for our Nation. As drivelly as that sounds, I am.
Whoever is the Democratic Candidate will get my heartfelt support and my phyiscal presence in the campaign.
And just to put this into perspective, If the DEMS were the boogey men, I'd have voted republican. But for all you McCain people, I can't in all conscience vote for a party that allowed such evil to be created for nothing more than greed.

Apparently white people hold a grudge for a long time: ever since Democrats pushed for African-American voting rights and integration, most whites haven't voted for a Democratic presidential candidate for over 40 years, even as the racial animus got translated into a cleaned-up anti-govenment, anti-crime, anti-tax message.

Nash , you use the same argument all the time. It gets less effective each time.
Posted by: Corey
| May 9, 2008 9:53 AM
What I find funny is that if you speak about race in this campaign you are labeled a racist. I'm talking race in terms of winning or losing. 25% of the democratic base is African American. They have always been loyal to the democratic party. They are the reason for Obama's big wins in North Carolina and most of the Southern States where they account for more than 30% of the democratic votes. We know he will pick them up in the fall. He also does better with young people, but we also know those are the most unreliable of voters. Hillary on the other hand attracts older voters, the most reliable, Women, the largest block of voters, and Reagan Democrats, the truly swing voters. So now it looks like it will be Obama against McCain. McCain is popular with white working class voters, he can draw independents, and he'll draw all the republicans who realize that Obama has been named the most liberal senator in Washington. Latinos also like McCain because he has a compassionate view on immigration. Obama will probably pick Richardson to be his VP and that will further alienate Clinton voters to either not vote or switch over to McCain. So balance it out, if Obama is the nominee the democrats are gonna lose again. So because of the media's witch hunt, we democrats are going to lose an election that should be a sure thing. They went after Hillary from the very beginning. The attacks were mostly personal and relentless, but they kept it up and didn't touch Obama until Rev. Wright. Even then, they played him as the poor fellow who was betrayed by his pastor. While Hillary was being called a pimp, he was being called a prophet. Chris Matthews, Jack Cafferty, Tucker Carlson, Eugene Robinson, Keith Olberman, Mika Brzezinski to name just a few have ridiculed her and called it journalism. Now we unrealistically believe that because we want to win, we will win. We tell the candidate with the best chance of winning to sit back and watch us lose. Tsk, tsk, democrats, we're shooting ourselves in the foot again.

Senate Democrats: Close oil speculation loophole
Thursday May 8, 11:42 am ET
By David Goldman, CNNMoney.com staff writer
Democratic Senators are working to combat rising oil and fuel prices by attacking what many Americans see as the heart of the problem: speculative trading.
Many politicians and energy industry analysts blame oil speculators for cashing in on the fuel cost crisis and, in the process, boosting the price of oil. Hedge funds, trusts, and independent investors have also poured funds into crude oil as a hedge against the weakened dollar

During the '96 election , I was basically told by people close to me "How could you even consider voting for Bill Clinton again?" Then in 2004 someone at work said to us , "When you vote tomorrow , make sure you do the right thing." I took that as "Make sure you vote for President Bush." I believe a person should vote for whoever they want to vote for and not feel pressured to vote for a candidate just because people tell them this is who they should vote for. I guess there was always a reason for my Dad keeping who he voted for to himself.

Also if I lived in WVA or KY and I was a BHO supporter I would be upset that he already gave up on winning the state. I just can't beleive Hillary would just throw her money away if she does not have a chance at this. Going to three states yesterday, why bother killing yourself over nothing. FryDaddy, reg. I wouldn't loose any sleep if she was elected POTUS. Most of the Super delegates decide together how and when they are going to vote. They report on TV how the vote will go BEFORE it's even taken. They agreed to the outcome of this primary already. This ihas been much more planned and slanted all along than we can imagine.

Richardson talks a good game, but we're supposed to be electing a team that can govern this country. If Obama truly wants to mend fences with the Clinton supporters he will pick someone such as Bayh, or Mike Easley, or even Ed Rendell.

Howard Dean said a while back that this must "appear" to be fair to both candidates. (He actually said appear, not just be fair to both). They're afraid if they rush things, Hillary's supporters will think she was treated unfairly and desert the Party. Regardless of what others think, they need everyone to win this General Election. So they're making it appear that it's fair, when in reality the outcome has already been planned.

Sky is simply a Clinton hater. No real Democrat would try to destroy a Democratic administration's record.
Nash is a racist because he believes blacks are so inferior that a white woman must not run a serious campaign against one, and that talking about voting patterns is racist IF you speak of white voting patterns. I've heard dozens of O-people talk about how he's got the AA vote in a lock. But if anyone reverses that -- other than the media -- and speculates about why the white working class isn't voting for him, they are racist.
Nash is one of those people who really believe that affirmative action is necessary because blacks can't really compete intellectually, not because they've been given a raw deal all these years. That's the bottom line on Nash's thinking.

nogrudge: Remember how many times Obama has said that he could win Hillary's supporters but she couldn't win his? That always irritated me. And the way Michelle has never been able to say that she would support Hillary if it came to that. Despite what everyone has accused her of, Hillary has always said that she would work her heart out for the nominee and the party would come together. That USA Today interview was the first time she ever even hinted that her base might not support Sen Obama and even then she was quoting an AP story...and you could tell she didn't feel comfortable about it once she started speaking.
In any case, I don't like being taken for granted. I will not live long enough to see another viable woman candidate for President. Mostly I resent Sen Obama because he could have waited, particularly given his age and inexperience.

On Mojo this AM they were talking about Ted Kennedy and Jimmy Carter in 1980 and how Kennedy would not drop out and took the fight to the convention. The Dems lost in 1980.
Klinton is going to do the same thing. If she can't get the nomination (and she won't) then she'll take the party down with her. If that's OK with you, then it's OK with me.

anon: As I posted a while ago, I have met McCain and know one or two old "flyboys" who are friends of his. That does make a difference. There is no other Republican for whom I would vote.
McCain is quite cynically doing what he has to do to get votes from the Republican base. It ain't pretty, but it's politics. I pretty much think that Obama's attitude to his church is about the same...it's a place he went in order to make himself part of the community.
But, the thing is that almost every political choice we make is a compromise. Pres Clinton was not my candidate originally but I think he worked out pretty well. If I had my druthers, the first viable woman candidate would not have been someone who rode her husband's coat-tails for so long, but, hey -- we take what we can get.
I just think that candidates who proclaim they are going to change the system or either hopelessly naive, or lying...maybe even to themselves.

The parents of the Blackwater founder Erik Prince originally owned the place I work for , BW. His Father died before I started working there. His mother sold the company in 1996. He used his inheritance from his Father's death to start Blackwater. His parents were hugely respected here in Holland. They did a lot for this city when they lived here. And, y'know what, I'm really angry at the Obama supporters for their reaction to Pres Clinton's remarks about Jesse winning SC ... as if they all thought Rev Jackson was nothing. If not for him, Sen Obama would not have the proportional delegate advantage that helped him so much.

Jim Webb would bring a LOT to the ticket and has done very well with SW Virginia voters, who face a lot of economic turmoil and less opportunities than those in Northern VA and other areas with more vigorous economies.
Hillary is a superb senator, would make a great president or Chief Executive of the Ford Foundation or Gates Foundation or whatever she chooses, and would be a good Supreme Court justice (although maybe for a second opening, depending on Senate composition post-election; why put her up as opportunity for GOP to rally their base and hand a new Dem president a first Supreme Court defeat?)

Let's see who he picks for VP. Let's see if he allows MI and FL delegations to be seated as is (won't cost him the nomination). Let's see if he asks Hillary to campaign for him or speak at the convention. HRC was taking on Blackwater in her speech of March 17th, when cable networks cut off the feed of her speech. On our border, the Mexican Army is now stationed in Juarez and Palomas. Drug crime has so escalated in the past couple of months. The US, of course, has had the national guard assisting the Border Patrol for some time. Interesting troop build-up on both sides. And perhaps, Blackwater senses the change in Iraq and needs a new venue for its army. Under GWB, we have funded this parallel army and I guess they feel we should continue to support them. Perhaps the next war will be with Mexico? Maybe that is "why" Richardson grew his beard? Makes him look like a freedom fighter!

She's used her position in the Senate to really help people on a very real level - even O'Reilly admitted she's done a good job for New York - others have talked about getting individual help from her with health care issues etc. I think she's more beneficial in the Senate - she can take another shot at it in 2012.

And if he takes us into another War the whole middle east will go up in flames and than we will see Nuclear Bombs used.
At that time Russia and China will step in and support Iran so Martial Law will have to be enacted to prevent another Revolutionary War here at home.

The Dems are always looking for the next new thing to make everything better. It's a funny thing -- the GOP doesn't like government and the Dems don't like politicians.
I think that the reason she is fighting so hard is that she knows this is her only chance. If Obama wins, she can't run against him. If McCain wins, at age 65 she will hardly be the fresh new face the Dems will want. That's what's really so sad....Obama had time enough and to spare. I know it's unkind but I have always felt that the "fierce urgency of now" might have had more to do with him getting bored than anything else.

Maggi at 11:03: good and thoughtful post
A few comments: I think Obama will do most of the things you are waiting to see: he will make a very good VP selection, as his shot at the White House depends on it (as most presidential nominees find). Am sure he will welcome Hillary and Bill and any of their surrogates and supporters in the general election campaign.
I don't personally think Hillary would be the best VP choice; do think she will make an incredible contribution no matter what she chooses to do in future -- remain in Senate or take on a new challenge.
Florida and Michigan delegations will be seated -- in some fashion (no crystal ball there!); I shall put up the lead NYTimes editorial addressing that issue next.
If you have not heard a kind word to the millions of Hillary supporters, listen in. He's been building bridges to Hillary supporters for a long time now.
Last, Hillary's candidacy was not a good test of breaking the glass ceiling because she is too closely affiliated with the preceeding administration (which I admired and still do) at a time Americans are seeking change and are concerned about dynastical politics (I hear this a LOT).
I think you are going to see another viable woman presidential candidate -- hopefully a Democrat -- sooner than you think.

Back in the 1970s, the (hard working white) Irish of South Boston violently opposed "busing" to achieve racial integration of the Boston Public Schools. During one day of demonstrations, a couple of punks sucker-punched a (hard working white) Boston Police officer, then ran into a bar, a notorious hangout for local thugs. The cops sent in their (equally notorious) "Tactical Patrol Force" with their helmets, shields, and 3-foot billy clubs, and "cleaned the place out."

It's always been about achieving his own political ambition. I'd love for anyone to step forward and talking about how Obama has really helped them in any real substantive way. Well I take that back - the poor folks in his district living w/o heat will remind us all that he helped Tony Rezko in a real substantive way by getting him a lot of dough to fix up their slums...which he never did. Lead editorial in NY Times today:
Sen. Clinton and the Campaign
There is a lot of talk that Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is now fated to lose the Democratic nomination and should pull out of the race. We believe it is her right to stay in the fight and challenge Senator Barack Obama as long as she has the desire and the means to do so. That is the essence of the democratic process.
But we believe just as strongly that Mrs. Clinton will be making a terrible mistake — for herself, her party and for the nation — if she continues to press her candidacy through negative campaigning with disturbing racial undertones. We believe it would also be a terrible mistake if she launches a fight over the disqualified delegations from Florida and Michigan.
The United States needs a clean break from eight catastrophic years of George W. Bush. And so far, Senator John McCain is shaping up as Bush the Sequel ...
In addition to abandoning the attack ads, Mrs. Clinton must drop her plans to fight to seat the delegations from Florida and Michigan, which defied the Democratic Party and moved up the dates of their primaries. A lot of people voted in Florida anyway, but Mrs. Clinton should not pursue this nuclear option. It would make the Democrats look unable to control their own, just when they want to make a case that they can lead the entire nation.
Both candidates have been vowing in the last two days to unite the party, and Mr. Obama could do more to rein in his anonymous campaign aides and other supporters who spend their days trashing Mrs. Clinton.
The undeclared superdelegates should stop their coy posing. With few exceptions, there is no reason left (other than the hope of making back-room deals) for those whose states have voted to keep their positions private. The rest should state their allegiance as soon as their primaries are held in the next few weeks.
....

PS: Please note: the NYTimes endorsed Sen. Clinton.

dog: TY for your post. I agree with much of what you say. Unfortunately for me, should another viable female candidate turn up it will not be in my lifetime. I think often of Shirley Chism who said that in her life she had found sexism a far greater barrier to her than skin color.
This is all just too bad and so sad. None of this had / has to do with skin color for me. My opposition to Obama is / was initially just my support for Hillary. But ... and this is big one for me, I would have been far more comfortable with someone with a less exotic background. The very background that so many of his supporters find appealing I find troubling ... I want a candidate who gets that Wm Ayers is not just a college professor. (And I know about the commutations / pardons...those were people who had served their time and expressed repentance. And gets it that the President of the US should not sit down with Ahmadinijad on an equal footing.
If Barack Obama were Harold Ford Jr I'd like him a whole lot better.

Party nominees are not chosen by electoral vote. I do not know why anyone would even think that.
When you have as many candidates running at the start of a campaign the electoral vote ends up misleading by the end because of those who drop out and do not reflect the true numbers if there were only two candidates in each party running for the nomination.

Perhaps the Clinton campaign should create the most hard-hitting (vicious) anti-Obama ads they can think of and show them to the SDs. They would be an example of what Repub 527s would do to Obama. Of course, this would leak out and that's OK. The people behind Obama need to be stopped. If that requires "exploding" the Dem Party, I'm for it 100%.

If you are comfortable with a candidate who uses race to win an election, then that makes you a racist, too.

Let me say something NICE about Hillary:
I understand what happened to her. She really DID have the inside track on the nomination, but her campaign made several strategic errors. (I'll leave it to the pundits to analyze what they were.) Now the nomination slipping away from her, forever. She'll never get another shot. She's not getting enough sleep. She's making bad judgments. It happens to all of us.
She's not a bad person. It's just a bad situation.

This may come as a surprise to some people, but there will be an election in November. To read some blogs, you would think that Barack Obama's almost certain victory over Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination means Obama advances straight to the White House. In case they did not know, it does not work that way.
One blogger says that it is silly to discuss Obama's failure to connect with white working class voters because:
Demographic and socio-economic differences between the two states,* plus the effects of Clinton’s ugly “kitchen sink” campaign, are not considered. [*For example, 31.7 percent of Virginians have college degrees, while 23.4 percent of North Carolinians have college degrees. Obama tends to do better among college-educated voters.]
I am curious if the blogger expects those voters without college degrees to suddenly get them by November and thus solve Obama's problem here. But I especially wonder if the blogger expects that Republicans will not campaign against Barack Obama. Or if they do, whether their campaign will be so much nicer than the Clinton campaign.
The reality based community? Not so much. Not anymore.

From HuffPo: Clinton's #1 strategic mistake...
As aides looked over the campaign calendar, chief strategist Mark Penn confidently predicted that an early win in California would put her over the top because she would pick up all the state's 370 delegates. It sounded smart, but as every high school civics student now knows, Penn was wrong: Democrats, unlike the Republicans, apportion their delegates according to vote totals, rather than allowing any state to award them winner-take-all. And yet the strategy remained the same, with the campaign making its bet on big-state victories.

I agree with the comments made earlier that Obama is mistaken if he thinks "we" will come back in the general election. I am astounded that the DNC and some superdelegates have virtually ignored the red flags being thrown up since the Oh, PA, TX, and IN primaries. He is losing the white vote by substantial margins and this % is actually growing. Do they even suspect how poorly their pejorative remarks are resonating. I guess not.. So this long time Democrat will gladly write-in Hillary Clinton in Nov. because I believe she is the best candidate to be elected President.

Darn it, I shouldn't let myself get behind in my reading. This was in yesterday's Journal:
"My analysis of individual state polls shows that today Mr. McCain would win 241 Electoral College votes to Mr. Obama's 217, with 80 votes in toss-up states where neither candidate has more than a 3% lead. Ironically, Mrs. Clinton now leads Mr. McCain with 251 electoral votes to his 203 with 84 in toss-up states. This is the first time she's led Mr. McCain since I began tracking state-by-state results in early March."

Huffington was nn Colbert last night and made a complete idiot out of herself. And I do mean complete from first sentence to the last. Even the Liberal Colbert could not keep from making fun of her. She does respresent a large number of nutrooters that support Obama. The absurdity of what she was spewing is exactly the reason why Obama will hit a wall come November. Huffington asked "What is wrong with Wright?" before Colbert cut her off. What is wrong with Wright? And her book is called "What is wrong with the Right". What a complete ass. The Left is already swift-boating McCain with stories he was never tortured and actually supported the Viet Cong. I guess we know who fired the first shots in the coming ugly war.
For whatever HRC flaws were, the disingenuous and NeoLiberal crap flying forth from the Obama Side will inevitably force many Moderate Liberals to the McCain camp. The idea that Hillary is now making racist claims after what Jason told us of Obama pressure in NC, is BS. Obama has been playing race for months.
Huffington said McCain is too old. She said that Bush's brain has been transplanted into McCain's head. Were it not that she represents many who support Obama, I would laugh at her comments. Already, Hizb'Allah, Putin, Belarus and others anticipate a continuing pull back by the US and a Democratic/Obama win. Burma, Sudan, Somalia and other places will continue to deteriorate.
Fry does add some realism here and by November, we will understand the stark differences between the Right and Left. Does Obama want to include all the illegals in universal healthcare? How much is he planning to cut defense? What will he do as the Gucci Government in Pakistan does nothing to thwart militants? What will he do as Hizb'Allah threatens to topple the government of Lebanon and launch a conflict towards Israel? What will he do as Iran speeds up enrichment? What will he do as Ouds continues to supply weapons and networks to Hizb"Allah, Iraqi militias, Sudan and Hugo?
What will he do in the face of Chinese obstruction in Tibet, Burma, and the Sudan?
If his history, record, mentors, friends and supporters are a fair indication, the Democrats will show us how they can out-do Bush in the battle of incompetency. With Carter, Fonda, Zbig, Teddy, Meeks, Moss, and others cheering for Obama, how could anyone's New Democratic conscience not be profoundly bothered?
If I were HRC, I would not be VP. I would move to center and consider a role in the next Republican administration or await her next turn after the Obama administration is booted out of office after a four year term that makes Carter seem like Reagan.

I'm reading "Team of Rivals" in small doses (book actually requires not only thinking, but engenders desire to research side lines).
If you think it is bad now, think about when there were Democrats, Whigs (both conscience and regular), Free Soil, Republicans, and the liberty party. Top it all off that their was no direct public voting for President. Add in issues such as slavery, expansion of slavery, complete abolition, and all the hard feelings coming out of the Spanish American war and what to do about all those new territories.
We are all so well behaved, no one has stalked, found, and shot anyone despite numerous temptations.

Flatus, everything that Obama has done or not done will "come back to roost". He is not the Carter-like NeoLiberal Viet Nam Syndrome we need at this moment in time. I want to thank the NeolIberals for breaking my lifelong streak. If anyone thinks that all former Democratic Presidents except Carter would be happy with Obama, they are not the prefessed "smarties" they claim to be.

Nogrudge, I hear ya. Vote McCain and Democrat for the rest. Perhaps divided government is far better than Obama/Pelosi. Can you believe that CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, The NYT, WAPO, now make FOX look fair and balanced? And even FOX is being pressured to shut up about Wright...LOL
The Tribune in Illiinois prints false statements concerning AYERS and refuses to correct them, saying they are studying the matter. The Weathermen, never hurt or killed anyone? This is the same media group that wants the House version of the new Freedom of the Press protections we all should enjoy as Americans. Craig, you still haven't said which version you favor, the Senate version or the House? How long will it take to decide?
We have witnessed what has happened to media in this country. As the media has moved to the Left, FOX has moved towards center. I still find much there that bothers me like Morris and company, but compared to the deliberate filtering and twisting of news by the Liberal dominated media, FOX often present facts that are otherwise ignored by Liberal media in an effort to help NeoLiberalism win. They even refused to pan around the stadium in NC when Obama was giving his speech to observe the empty hall. Perhaps this would cast an impression of Obama's empty suit and media wants none of that.

Bill's in Montana and Senator Clinton has been there too.
What if the order of the primaries were reveresed?
Two things could affect the Obama vote at the Democratic primary June 3. Montana does not have a strong population of young upwardly mobile, highly educated voters in comparison to the number of blue-collar and older voters most likely to support Clinton. Obama does very well with young voters, Lopach said, but spring semester at the state colleges will be long over when the primary arrives. Young energetic supporters will be harder to gather and mobilize. Many will have left the state.

No, Grudge, I mean Obama administration coupled with Pelosi/Reid in the Senate. Obama will be under fire if he wins a very close election. Many bloggers already anticipate this means Pelosi will have alot of sway with Obama. It is quite likely they could start to get through agendas that do not represent the center and completely ignore half the country. Remember, Obama has said if elected he would break Reopublican opposition like "breaking open the doors of segregation". How this wasn't playing race from day one is beyond my white uneducated mind.
Media/ Obama/ Pelosi-Dean-Reid is a sure ticket to show Republicans how Liberals can out-mess up our national interest. A vote for McCain isn't a vote for Republicans as much as it is a vote for centrism and national self-interest. Don't let Obamniacs call you a traitor or a Republican. It was the Obama camp that betrayed moderate Liberal sensibilities is what has become the most hypocritical campaign in decades.

Dear Fellow Clinton Supporters,
I'm home for an early lunch and then back to campaigning for Hillary.
My advice is that you ignore the 2 or 3 Obama nuts who constantly post hatred on the blog.
Concentrate on the reasonable posters. Let the others flail about alone in their dingy apartments with cans of Spaghetti-O's strewn about.
Have a good day.

We released a detainee from Gitmo and he went to Syria and then to Northern Iraq where he blew himself and seven other up while injuring many.
Maybe he did that because we detained him, yes?
Have friggin clue, please.

The two most recent polls are the one just cited and the 6 pt. KATU poll.
He is popular in Portland (central city) , Eugene, etc..
Hillary does well in outlying parts of Portland and the vast small town part of the state. The press gives his edge to a larger than normal upscale community in metro area..don't know how accurate that is.
We will see..Both candidates are here today in Portland. Hillary did rally in southern Oregon yesterday and goes back to Ashland Sun. morn..
The time being put in here suggests a close race.
I would say he has the edge still, but remember, she usually closes well.

Got that anon, was that too hard to follow. Obama used his mother to pander to a crowd he felt he was losing. So don't tell me I BORIGHT UP OBAMA'S MOTHER. Obama did on more than one disingenupus moment.
As for me being a Republican, bullshit. But I would side with Frydaddy over your brilliance in a heartbeat. At least Frydaddy is sane with little indication he has forgotten to take his medication. Stop insulting Jews with your pathetic Nazis comparisons. You are clueless.

Institute a Torture Program inside the Peoples House. War Crimes even if you don't want to accept that fact it is a fact.
And they also screw our soldiers every single day by the second, minute and hour.
I'm so glad your so proud of your country. It isn't mine or many others who still remember what America once was and stood for.
That America is Dead and died the day the Republican Fascist Nazi's along with some Democrats gave this insane madman the power to strip American Citizens of their Constitutional Rights by labeling them Enemy Combatants as they continued to destroy what ever little is left of our Constitution.

I don't think Hillary should do anything to help BO.If she does not get nomination and does not run as an independent she should just let him sink along with all those backstabbers from BC's administration. If We can't have Hillary McCain will be a much better President than Obama and he won't be able to change Roe or privatize SS because if Dems dominate congress we will be in the same stalemate as we are in now.I do not want the wrong dem at top with dem congress because with that liberal bunch behind BO we'll be in worse shape than we are now .We need to go back to the 90's and that won't happen with obama and Kennedy. So vote McCain and hope for a better candidate in 2012.Our best hope is Hillary and Hagel for 08.And from what I hear she has enough support to run against the establishment.Boy this country could use a third party

Yes, Obama threw his grandma under the bus, the woman who nurtured him when his mother continued to prefer the world to living in America (see the sticker photoed at Town Hall from the Stadium where Obama gave his NC speech), and long before Barry threw Wright under the bus. As his real history has been begun to be vetted, he now must repeat how much he loves America. It is the right political move given Wright and others like Avery whose father helped Obama get started in Chicago. While Obama was getting support from Avery (stomping on the flag at the time) and Rezko, Khalidi and others to launch his political aspirations, Hillary was in Bosnia after strongly advocaing taking on the Serbs. Great difference in outlook, yes?

This was a post to "Bye Bye Hillary" on the other thread. I want to post it again because by the time everyone woke up, there was a new thread. If we want a unified Democratic Party, how we treat each other's preferred candidates will certainly matter:
BYE BYE, just a comment... Continuing to insult Bill and Hillary by using the name BILLARY is not going to help in your high-minded comment "It's time to bring the party together." If you really want to bring the party together you should know that using the BILLARY moniker is a slap in the face to most of her supporters. I urge you to consider a positive nick that is not so "nyah nyah nyah". As it stands now, the more I read here, the angrier I get at the Obama candidacy. I am forcing myself to support him, but the more I read here, the more I feel like throwing up my arms and saying "to hell with it"...

That isn't what she said. She said that if the Superdelegates overturned the majority preference of delegates, she would quit. In other words, Barack is the leader but short of the official delegates needed to cinch the nomination. A bunch of superdelegates decide they like Hillary better so they cast their votes for her in a number significant enough to make Hillary the chosen nominee. That was what Donna was referring to. However, this problem has been exacerbated by the DNC's "punishment" of Michigan and Florida if they held their primaries early. I sincerely believe that when they made that ruling, they felt confident that the states would capitulate and have later primaries. When that didn't happen, the DNC was already boxed in and would have lost face if they didn't follow through.
What a mess it has been!

EuroTom, I agree. Now if you really looked into the total farce of an autobiography and the tin cans Obama is dragging, the Obamniacs are well past the tipping point. Frankly, I disagree with most of McCain's domestic policies. He did vote for Democratic niminees to SCOTUS and he has a REAL record of standing up to Republicans. When Colbert asked Huffington last night, why Obama can get away with playing to his base, but she calls McCain playing to his base something profoundly evil, she had nothing, just some stupid slogan and blather. At least McCain didn't listen to Hagee for twenty years as his Pastor and pretend to the American people he heard nothing controversial which is EXACTLY what he told the press weeks before the Wright story flared.
The Democrats have made me sick. The Far Riight makes me sick, and those of us who really support New Democratic ideals should vote for the candidate closer to center.
If one tries to convince me to vote for Obama, they will first have to show me why Obama is not a liar and what foreign policy he will have that will defuse the growing threats to the West as Italy picks another centrist leader to add to Sarkosy, Merkel and Brown. Obama is certainly Left of them.

As Perot found out, the two major parties have made it very difficult. Unless a party already has access by virtue of having received a percentage of the vote, it is hard to get on. There are some parties such as Green, Reform, and Libertarian that might be up for grabs. As of 2006, the Greens had 31 states. I don't know how many they might have added or could add easily by November, I have no idea.

The Dem party will survive an Obama presidency even if he screws it up royally. Look at the Rep party; after the worst president in the history of the nation it has the favored candidate to win the Nov. election against the presumptive nominee of the Dem party, at least according to polls as they stand now.

I think all the 3rd party discussion is nothing more than wishful thinking. I don't think it's Hillary's intent to run on a sure loser party ticket and hand the election to McCain. She's been a democrat ever since Goldwater days were over, longer than Reagan was a Republican, longer than Nader has been a greenie and longer than Perot was a nut. No, I believe she will bow out, support Obama at some level, return to the Senate, and look for another mountain to climb, rhetorically, of course.

Truckers, Cabbies, Delivery Vans, Senior Center transportation. It's not just family vacation heading for the mountains.
What I resented was the portrayal of her "gas tax" proposal as being the whole of what she was recommending.
Certainly we need to get off the oil teat, develop mass transit, high speed rail, alternative energy blah blah blah, but while that is all going on as some sort of "Apollo" program, people have to get to work and perform their jobs. When it is cheaper for someone to go on welfare than it is to try to get to and from work to support a family, then it is hardly "dumb" to make it possible for them to do it.

Barack would be in serious trouble if he took that horrible woman as a running mate. If they got elected she would sabotage him in a very sneaky way every step of the way. SHE IS UNFIT FOR ANY PUBLIC OFFICE!!!!!

I see that all the "hard working white people" in the Klinton Klub are here today.
I don't think she should be VP. I think she should be tossed out of the party for being a damn racist. (And all of her followers, too.)
The GOP wants you people. Go. You'll be happier there.

Nash once again dissing Mrs. Clinton and the people who support (supported) her. Nash, review your definition of a "troll". You fit right in.

Ky Marco: Don't know where you are in the state, but I understand how you feel .. after reading that article that GORDO linked too ... my Mom & I have been saying that for awhile now ... it just didn't make any sense to us how fast BHO rose to the top ...
Oh EMMY, you forgot Rachel Meddows .. can't stand her .. if anyone gives an opinion not of her liking, she interupts them, talking loudly over them until they finally stop trying to make their point .. that's what happen when morning Joe, left the show that day ..
and all this about being a races!!! makes me sick to hear everyone who supports Hillary being called it too .. no, they keep saying BHO supports are the highly educated people & young college people, but for how they are conducting themselve in public .. no class at all in my book ...

Should have read "And Hillary can not win without the AA vote. It was the AA vote that put Bill in office twice. Without it Bill would not have won.
God Bless.
Nogrudge you prove my point.
Like I said previously, the Democrats shoot themselves in the foot and lose another election because I don't think Obama is gonna pick up many white Blue Collar Democrats, and you can't win without them either.

To All You Obamiacs out there;
Please try to remember that racism works both ways, but in the case of reverse racism, it's kind of like having to "knock out the champion". Hillary should not jump at the VP position - can you imagine a woman of her intelligence and experience having to work under that loud-mouthed hound that Obama is married to. It was Michelle Obama who started the name calling a million years ago by saying that if, "Hillary couldn't run her own house, how could she run the White House?" The blue collar vote, which makes up the majority of Americans, is Hillary's and she should take it with her to the Independent Party. Perhaps Rev. Wright didn't influence BO but his old lady is another matter, she sounds just like Wright most of the time. I am thoroughly disgusted with the biased BS from the media because BO is good copy and absolutely in awe at the ineptitude of the house and senate leaderships. The latte - drinking, well-heeled, have just had their turn at president, it's the turn of the people who grind out a living from day to day and need the help. Where's the compassion all you BO supporters are so proud of..............
