For Hillary to take the #2 spot would be a serious insult. She should stay in the Senate. If Obama pulls off a miracle and wins the general, the Senate won't even know he's gone.
I think the "dream ticket" would help unite the party, but I don't think it will happen. Also, I'm not convinced it would be a winner. Both still have high negatives, as we've seen here at C-list.
I hope Hillary comes back to my state and continues to work as an over-achieving senator. Meanwhile, Senators Obama and Clinton shared the debate stage with several qualified candidates only a few months ago. I hope he'll look among that group for his running mate.
Patsi -- I don't want to inflame anyone here, but I couldn't help thinking that there are interns on the Hill who have more Congressional experience than Obama has.
If Obama doesn't take Hillary as his running mate -- then he needs to look outside the circle of other DEM candidates. They were all Senators. He needs a Governor. The executive experience would balance his own inexperience. A plus if the governor is from a swing state that will bring voters to the DEM ticket.
It's past the time when a dream ticket would work. She can go back to the Senate and do a wonderful job and he can go find someone else with the experience to help him do his.
Aside from Bo's obvious contempt when it comes to Clinton, why would she take the position even if offered? It would be signing up for the second coming of McGovern. Bo's going to be torn apart in the GE, you can almost hear them laughing on conservative talk radio now - he may not lose 49 states......but it's gonna be close. Dean, Brazille & Company are going to be riding the short bus after this.
Sorry! Need to revise my last comment -- I forgot about Richardson. He is a Governor -- but is we're gong on the "urn the page" and "Change, change change" then that would leave Bill R. out -- he's very much a DC insider. Maybe some personal issues that could come out in the GE.
I still think both of them on the ticket, in theory, would force the best of the best to work together. They and all of their workers are aware of what is at stake and its the whole country. We are in huge trouble here and abroad.
But that said, if Senator Obama didn't get the Nom, I bet he's take VP. I'm not sure about Senator Clinton, but I wish she would.
If she didn't. The old classic say, if choose a govenor might be out. Considering that the Both senators would need an infusion of Military somewhere in the cabinet to help translate the war, The VEEP position might be the place.
Hagel isn't returning to the Senate. He could really unsettle the Republicans and do a heck of a lot of good on the ticket for both candidates.
Dem/Rep ticket, I always thought would be a great way to unify the country and smooth the way for real progress.
Its interesting how Cable News has laid bare of the traiditions of the Race, that are not normally visible to the public eye,
Like this "Dance" between campaigns to get the rest of the campaign completed. Both campaigns are dealing over the lose ends and we are watching it in real time....
Interesting and yet, maybe not so good for the public's nerves.
Sheila, my choice would be Lincoln Chafee as VP. He was the only Republican who voted against the MCA if 2006. I believe he was also against IIRC parts of Patriot Act and other bills that stripped away many of our Constitutional Rights.
I was truly sorry to see him lose since he is a moderate who worked across the aisle for the good of the country.
On the ticket he would bring many more Republicans to Obama that are dissatisfied with their party and deny McInsane a good many votes.
BH - or for the young ones ... The OC !
Hillary will eat crow and CHANGE to support BHO in the general but can not see her taking 2nd place (out of 2). BUT just as ROMNEY would be a great domestic choice so maybe could Hillary?
Good morning Sheila -- The war is not the most important issue anymore. A good DOD Sec would take care of translating the war. The economy is the biggest issue and will be for some time. A business person/governor is needed. I vote for Mark Warner -- I know he's running for Senate, but he's barely gotten that started . As veep his family can still live in Alexandria, which was the issue when he dropped out of the Presidential race. He's got the DLC in the palm of his hand, and many other chits out after giving lots of money to other candidates. Warner also has very good favorability with the NASCAR demographic -- having won SW VA handily as Governor -- he is beloved in that part of the state -- even used blue grass music in his ads. Mudcat taught him well. Mark also plays basketball very well so he and Barry could play together. I might actually campaign for an Obama/Warner ticket.
Obama was wrong in his interview with Brian Williams. We will not be back. After we vote for Hilary in the primary we're changing our registration to Republican. I will donate the max to John McCain. The Democratic party does not represent us any more. Who are these people? Do you really want to be aligned with them? The victory party going on today on Morning Joe is only helping to strengthen our resolve. PS. We are not the "working class white people" who the Obama people so disdainfully look down upon. We are not alone. Literally everyone we have talked to feels the same.
Chef Sheilia
You must not have read the comments - Not good for BHO.
For the weak minded that will not look for consistency I am sure the BHO can pull in voters (beyond the natural flock)
At some point BHO must be held accountable for positions, platforms with details and facts, and relate them to who the heck he really is and what impacts he might have. But to ask the MSM to be true journalist. Never happen as journalism is a lost profession.
The War is running away with our economy now. True, WE made a mess with NAFTA and turning it into a Retail Mall economy, but NOW the war is definitely the Coup De Gras. We have to resolve this Black Hole of Funding now. This is all I was thinking.
Just not sure what you are saying? Maybe it the lack of coffee in my veins.
Or maybe i read the article and got something different than you. After all, I am sold on Obama and you are a Republican. like speaking a different language sometimes.
One last comment,,, then back to my evil capitalistic, people should contribute to the fabric of soceity, what can you do for your community and country world.
What the heck are Nancy and Harry doing !! what a disgrace - What does BHO bring that would change this?
Scary Scary.....
The comments that are posted to the article are calling out Obama for his changing now only for his personal gain. That this CHANGE to support Florida is only because it will not hurt him.
That this again reveals more about the true Obama then the poetic flow of false words that flow from his mouth.
That the Rev Wright was right, which upset Obama, when he correctly called him a politiician.
Obama does not truly care for Florida, if he did he would have taken a stronger stance sooner
I hope that HRC does not jump at the VP job. If she is not the nominee in 08 then let her go again in 12 when JM doesn't seek a second term. I would still rather have her in 08 instead of the empty suit.
We had a "Think Pink" night/day at work. We were asked to wear pink in honor of breast cancer awareness. So , I wore a pink shirt to work last night. Yes , Dexter, the Red Wings looked awesome again. I might write in the whole team as my candidate for President in November. Who cares if they're all from Sweden?! LOL! Has anybody ever tossed an octopus on inauguaration day?
Sheila: That time I was NOT stating my opinion -- just stating the polling on the most important issue. The WAR is important to me, with a beloved nephew who came back from the war a changed person and committed suicide, living in high military area where so many of my friends and neighbors are going through multiple deployments, with sons aged 18 and 14 who I am doing my best to keep away from recruiters.
I think you need coffee too. I re-read the article. Its points were about seating the delgates for FLorida. Obama said, "By All Means Seat Florida". It talked about Obama speaking to Florida SD's and his campaign spokes person talking about how important and pivital Florida is.
I enjoyed it very much. There was no opinion injected in there and frankly, it was refreshing. Kudos to Orlando Sentinal. ;0)
But! I see your disatisfaction and understand now.
There are a whole slew of BOBW as well. They may vote for Obama in November, but they aren't happy with the way they have been treated by the men and kids either after a few centuries of trying to hold families together.
I would love to see some polling on those statistics. Unfortunately poll takers rarely break racial clusters into smaller groups.
The Presidential election is going to be held on my birthday , Nov. 4th. Perhaps I should form my own party and run as well. Maybe call it the "Birthday Party". All I need is a running mate. Any suggestions?
Craig..... I don't see Clinton taking on the role of VP.....
I agree with those that have already said she'll go back to the Senate and gear up for another run in 2012.....
Corey.... Dex....
I'm happy for your Red Wings..... I'd love to see an old time northern franchise take the Stanley Cup..... I can't get used to hockey in Texas and Florida..... what the hell were they thinkin' (besides $$$$).....
and of course...... both my beloved Red Sox and Celtics won last night!
It would have to be one hell of a deal if Clinton was to join Obama--a deal I don't think Obama would be willing to make. I just don't see him ceding policy making power, of any magnitude, to Mrs Clinton.
And I don't see Mrs Clinton wanting to join a failing administration and being put in a position of being a nay-sayer rather than a supportive, collaborative participant in good governance.
the real issue of the "dream ticket" is that the people who are backing the obama move want nothing more than to bury hillary clinton.....they'd rather lose than have her in their game, because she knows too much.....there is no way they will allow hillary on the ticket in any fashion.......they only want her gone......
they might wind up making a great show of "offering" the VP to her........but the stipulations and conditions will be such that she could never accept......they do not want hillary around in any capacity......good of the party or not.
Thanks, Sheila. It was a very tough time for us. He joined the Army in 1999, did year-long tours in Bosnia in 2000 and Iraq in 2003-2004. When he came back from Iraq he was different, more withdrawn, we knew something was going on with him but he would not talk about it -- always insisting he was fine. In his last letters to us, we learned that he watched with a sense of despair as his friends and siblings were going to college moving on with their lives, and felt like an underachiever. He was about to be deployed again and didn't want to go which he thought was shameful. Plus he was having money problems - just minor ones really, but huge to a 27 year old who's depressed, and overwhelmed with constant "honor at all cost" messages, he made a decision that has changed us all forever.
How can BHO pick HRC as his VP when his battle cry has been from the very start, we need to change from the old ways of how government works, and has constantly been pointing to HRC as and example of that problem?
My son is home for 3 years after 3 tours in the Middle East. Two of his classmates were killed there. But I have not yet experienced tha horrible equation. I am so sorry and my prayers of comfort and new found joy will be with your family someday. Also comfort for the soul of your loved one.
Now playing at a theater near you: How i Fooled the American People..starring Barack Obama.MichelleObama..Oprah Winfrey..Jeremiah Wright..Keith Olbermann..Wolf Blitzer..Tim Russert
Clinton as veep? No way. As much as I want her to be the nominee, I admit I am feeling very discouraged today. I also just found out that my "day job" is cutting my workload so that I'll be bringing home about $40 less each week. It doesn't sound like much, but when you're a freelance writer and a single mom with a kid about to start college, every dime matters.
I will have to start putting more emphasis on earning with my blog. I don't want to seem tacky and put the link here, but anybody inclined to read it can find a link by clicking on my username here. Every little bit helps. The war rages and Sadr City is hellish, but for me, this day, the economy is the biggest issue.
What jamie, patsi and ed said. ( I've only read the first few posts, so if anyone else said Hillary should stay in the senate, I agree with you, too. I'm thinking Richarrdson - it may be the only way Obama, should he win in '08, may be able to ensure that Richardson won't back his opponent in '12, although I do agree with Alicia that Warner would be a good choice - BO had not been able to attract Joe Sixpack, and Warner might help some there. And please don't forget us BOWM. (Just love these abbreviations).
More tirades from Obama supporters against Mrs. Clinton are not the answer — they will only further alienate her grass-roots supporters, many of whom feel that she received a raw deal.
Nor is it helpful to insult the groups that supported Mrs. Clinton, either by suggesting that racism was their only motivation or by minimizing their importance.
After the Pennsylvania primary, David Axelrod, Mr. Obama’s campaign manager, airily dismissed concerns about working-class whites, saying that they have “gone to the Republican nominee for many elections.” On Tuesday night, Donna Brazile, the Democratic strategist, declared that “we don’t have to just rely on white blue-collar voters and Hispanics.” That sort of thing has to stop. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/09/opinion/09krugman.html?_r=1&scp=2&sq=Krugman&st=nyt&oref=slogin
Agree Emmy. And also with BlueINDallas. All done by MSNBC in the name of ratings and because of a personal grudge by Matthews and Russert. That's what really first got us turned off Obama. Upon closer inspection there's no substance, just an empty suit being pushed by people with their own agenda.
Lynn C. I agree with you, only it's too late for that sort of thing to stop. Obama, Axelrod and Donna Brazile have already let us know how they really feel. Any "change" now is not "Change we can believe in". The Obama people are now creating their excuse for when he loses to MCCain and they can make it Hilary's fault.
Obama can not win without Clinton. Clinton supporters are very emotionally now behind her. We will not vote for Obama without Hillary on the ticket. We will be voting for McCain. Mc Cain will win an electotial landslide. We will be voting for McCain. Mc Cain will win an electotial landslide. We will be voting for McCain. Mc Cain will win an electotial landslide. We will be voting for McCain. Mc Cain will win an electotial landslide.
I agree. This kind of tabloid spin does nothing for Obama either. Its a pain to see that people actually believe that the fodder dished up by the Media is what Obama or Clinton really believes and its just not true.
Harder still is watching Blogs bury candidates for the fun of it. Its just a feeding frenzy.
Happy to oblige, Jenn. Just sittin' here clinging to my ... , wait, my guns are in AL. I figure I'll be spending the next hour or 3 on yours - I've got the 1st 2 and last 3 - I'm wandering throught he intellectual desert with the rest.
Speaking of a feeding frenzy, Sheila, could there be anything more annoying than watching Mika and Peggy Noonan mugging for the cameras? Yuck.
As to Sen Clinton. As hard-working and earnest as she is, wonder how she'll enjoy the future as a perpetual junior Senator, with little chance even to become a committee chair. She has done diligent work on Armed Services, but military expertise is not the reason she went into public service.
As for Obama's VP pick, he might help himself a great deal by selecting Evan Bayh. He has tons of executive experience (Secy of State and Governor before he became Senator) is a centrist, a Hillary supporter, and his father is a long-time friend of the Kennedy family.
If you care about the future of the Democratic Party you don't want Hillary to be VP because, supposing BO should be in office for 8 years, she will be far too old to run.
The reason that both candidates are so tenacious is that each of them realizes that -- given the nature of the Democratic Party--and, in Hillary's case, her age...this is both the first shot and their best shot. Neither of them will get a second chance.
Jamie, reg. Brazille: “we don’t have to just rely on white blue-collar voters and Hispanics.” Exactly! Because of that attitude, Hillary shouldn't run with him because BO will very probably lose. There are a lot of high up democrats that have pushed Obama through, and don't think Hillary was part of the plan. She needs to try to get this, and if it's not in the cards, do her own thing.
Flatus: reg. I don't see Mrs Clinton wanting to join a failing administration. Ditto.
Marco I completely agree with your earlier post as do all of my family and friends. I am not interested in an Obama ticket or an Obama/Clinton ticket. By the way, whatever happened to Reverend Wright? He just conveniently disappeared again after he and Barry's recent theatrical performance. Obama is a classic phony.

Democratic Elitists And Their Role In Hijacking The Democratic Party!
"...You create your own candidate from a blank slate...
Howard Dean and his far-left, wealthy, and elitist backers, expected the Clinton Campaign to fold after Super Tuesday. Supported by elitist endorsements, media friendly coverage of Obama, and the disenfranchisement of millions of Democratic voters nationwide, the elitist far-left has clearly shown that this election is not about working class America but rather about power."
nogrudge: Assuming that Sen Obama can win the Presidency (although not with my help), let's not wish for another "failing administration." We've had quite enough of that. Although I do fear that he has no real grasp of the need for fiscal prudence, one presumes that he will listen to advisors.
oh, and jenn, I'm not religious, either. Now what else am I supposed to be clinging to? I forget.
Mel7 - not all of us. I'm loyal to my cnadidate as long as she is one, then I'm loyal to the party even if she's not. To my way of thinking, there are issues larger than my pride or misgivings about Obama at stake here.
Gordo, reg. far-left, wealthy, and elitist backers.
Thanks for linking that article. Very enlightening. I've thought all along this election was rigged somehow, but couldn't put together the pieces. Always thought Howard Dean gave his data base from his failed run to Obama (among a lot of advice).
All part of a bigger picture, including way to much money, etc.
Great link!
That will go on the short list. Have to laugh - I'm too cheap to go with the fender (plus I'm nothing more than a home noodler). Interesting cabs - if LP continues to do stuff with his "band" he's going to need a real amp, and I really like the bass amp with guitar combo - shoot me an e-mail at larry dot chafin at steptoe hyphen johnson dot com. I'd like to elicit some info from you but don't want to bore the regulars.
I wasn't Impressed with Mika this morning. She displayed a rookie stance in her interviews.
I AM however always fascinated by Peggy Noonan's interviews. She has proven a good eye for what is in the minds of the republicans. About 99% of the time, whatever comes out of Noonan's mouth, so goes the Republican Parrty.
Not interested: When the subject of Rev Wright first came up, I did a lot of research about him, TUCC, Black Liberation Theology, etc. Among the statements attributed to Rev Wright, I particularly remember one where he claimed "We groomed him for years for this" (I have no idea who the we is) and that "We [meaning Wright and Obama] have discussed that at some time he would have to publicly distance himself from me.
I fear that the whole thing with the recent performance was Wright egging his student on to make the break he knew he would have to make.
And BTW, for anyone who is interested as an historical fact, African-American men always "had the vote" in most of the country...even during slavery 10% of the AA population were free, and men of property could vote. Not saying it was made easy for them, but technically all free men (of whatever color) of property could vote in the US long before any woman ever cast a vote.
Barack would be in serious trouble if he took that horrible woman as a running mate. If they got elected she would sabotage him in a very sneaky way every step of the way. SHE IS UNFIT FOR ANY PUBLIC OFFICE!!!!!
Every time I find myself starting to warm slightly to Sen Obama, one of his supporters or talking heads does or says something so incredibly rude or stupid that I find myself bearing my teeth and hissing NEVER!!
If he does get the nomination, and if he then loses, it will be all those chanting, booing, screeching acolytes worshiping at the shrine and burning candles at their lord and master's feet.
Pogo, your party is not your party anymore. It's been hijacked by the left wing. In their arrogance they have been saying that we would all come back, but we won't.
Sheila: I think that both Mika and Peggy are intelligent and ambitious women. What I object to with both of them is their manner. That type of kittenish, head tossing, posing for effect type of thing just gets on my last nerve. Playing to the men in the crowd ... that's kind of why I like the women on CNN. I give CNN a whole lot of credit for putting people on air who know that they are news persons, not 'personalities'.
"Just not sure what you are saying? Maybe it the lack of coffee in my veins.
Or maybe i read the article and got something different than you. After all, I am sold on Obama and you are a Republican. like speaking a different language sometimes."
Sheila -- what I think Ping Pong is doing is exactly what the media has done and will do: bury Hillary first, then start digging Obama's grave.
Agreed Maggisd ;0) About Mika and the rest of the MSNBC Kittens
But Noonan is another matter. She has earned her reputation as a sharp strategist and a brilliant speech writer. She's worth the listen, even if she displays republican female mannerisms. ;0)
Skylark do you know how to spell troll? Hint, it has 2 ells.
maggie, I don't think for a second that lining up committee appointments wouldn't be part of the deal for her to concede and wonk with some diligence to get Obama elected in Nov.
While I do not intend to leave the Democratic Party, I have no qualms about voting for Sen McCain, given that the Congress will be overwhelmingly Democratic. I think McCain can and will work with them and, in cases where he won't, they can over-ride him. Divided government is not always a bad thing. I am more of a centrist than a lot of the Congressional Dems. I think HRC would have checked them, but I don't think Obama will...
I am particularly troubled by what I think Obama's foreign policy may look like.
Pogo, sounds like you're getting a great instrument. The first review, where the fellow let a pro play it, reminded me of a friend back in Las Vegas back in '70.
He and I were really into building flying model airplanes--the desert is a really good place to fly them.
He spent a couple of hundred hours building a magnificent radio controlled model. Of course, he had no experience flying such things so he looked at the group of folks who were flying RCs and picked-out who he thought was the most competent.
When Hugh asked him if he would try his model for him, the guy happily obliged.
He did a fine take-off, gained altitude, then nose-dived into the ground. The airplane was a total loss.
Hugh was philosophical about the episode. He tore what was left apart and removed the electronic and mechanical parts that he thought he might be able to salvage and then set a match to the rest.
Alicia -- Very, very sorry about your nephew. He must have felt he had no alternatives. I have a close friend whose son came home from Iraq badly wounded, and he's still trying to get decent treatment. His parents work round the clock keeping his spirits up. Just awful.
Pogo: I certainly hope that she can at least get some committee assignments more suited to her concerns and interests.
All this talk about Senate Majority Leader is balderdash...the person standing right behind Sen Reid is Dick Durbin, Senior Senator from Illinois who was apparently the first person to urge Obama to run. And, Chris Dodd also wants that position....he went after it when Daschle left and came within a few votes of winning the post.
Let's face it, when it comes to the Senate, the old white guys still rule the roost.
Patsi, Sheila: I think the next most important thing for Sen Obama will be his choice of VP. While it sounds great for Sen Clinton and Pres Clinton to say they will campaign for Sen Obama, if and when, I don't think either of them want to be booed by a bunch of Obama voters.
BTW, did you all get what Sen Edwards and Mika were talking about this a.m. with the endorsements? I just knew he and Elizabeth were supporting different candidates and that's why he hasn't endorsed.
Given the nasty and divisive comments of the BHO supporters concerning HRC...why bother? I am beginning to agree with the likes of Marco that the dem party has changed. I have not heard one thing from BHO that appeals to me. He still appears to cocky to me.
I had posted a few days ago about wanting a dream team, but after reading the psuedo polls from the talking heads...I am discouraged. I used to think John Edwards would be able to unite the party, but after listening to wooden boy, John Kerry, I no longer want to be that kind of democrat.
"your party is not your party anymore. It's been hijacked by the left wing. In their arrogance they have been saying that we would all come back, but we won't. "
Unfortunately, The Republicans have been hijacked by their far rights and the Democrats have been hijacked by their far left. Those of us of more moderate inclinations no longer really have a party. The difference is that his time, the Democrats had two candidates: One that represented the middle and one that represented the left.
The media did everything but grovel and slobber over Sen. Obama and only started to even out the coverage when the writer's strike ended and the comedians started holding the obvious hero worship up to ridicule. It still hasn't been really balanced.
The real problem is where does the middle go ... has everyone learned how to count chads just in case and do you really trust Diebold?
"I have a much broader base to build a winning coalition on," she said in an interview with USA TODAY. As evidence, Clinton cited an Associated Press article "that found how Sen. Obama's support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me."
Sturg, the only thing I play is music recorded by others. But, you're right about the bass speaker.
Here, I have a 15-inch Kurzweil SW. It's exceptionally smooth and produces sound that you can feel in the furniture. I've literally have had pictures come off the wall when I was taking it out for exercise.
Wish I had the talent to place something. I'm not even allowed to try because I promised Mr Canfield, our junior high band teacher back in 9th grade that if he would pass me, I would never touch another instrument. We had a deal that made both of us happy.
That was back during the days before polio vaccines. One summer he lost all five of his children to that horrific disease.
And, now, we have the mental health crisis resulting from the protracted deployments with our service members experiencing and witnessing incredible mayhem.
Alicia, you and your family have my heartfelt condolences.
Did anybody notice how fast McCain reacted to something Obama's said in his interview with CNN yesterday. Rommney jumped on it too. Just wait this is only the beginning. Maybe he does need Hillary on the ticket. Since the media loves to bash her they can continue to do this and he can continue to have the free ride. Also when they do start on him she can jump in and reflect it to her by getting all the attention. I am not sure if he can handle all the trash that is going to come his way. He had trouble with the Wright issue, Ayers has not picked up steam yet but it's right around the corner. Maybe Wright will start up again, he is scheduled to preach in Philly at the end of the month.
This is what Obama will be up against where I live in Michigan. Look at these numbers from the last two Presidential elections. I live in Ottawa County.
Jamie, reg. where does the middle go?
I guess we become Independents. Then the Democrats will have to move to the center to rebuild it's base in the future.
It's really hard, being a democrat for over 40yrs., to have to
be disheartened like this. But we'll deal with it.
maggisd: Clinton had 75% of blacks supporting her when she began her campaign. But when Obama began to win, she began to use race as a weapon against him.
I don't think that most of Clinton's supporters were racists at the beginning of her campaign, but those who still stand with her today? Yes. They are racists.
If you are comfortable with a candidate who uses race to win an election, then that makes you a racist, too.
Jamie: You are quite correct. Where does the middle go? My family has never voted anything but Democratic -- ever. I am regarded as something of an oddball because I voted for Gerald Ford in 1976. But now I see my Party just running away from me. I don't blame Florida for Al Gore's loss...I blame the left wing of the Democratic Party, that 5% who voted for Nader and who now blog in the Huffington Post. I still have my Kerry bumpersticker on my car, although I think he was a piss-poor candidate. When I listen to some of the House Dems talking, I wonder what happened to my party. It's gotten pretty bad when Barney Frank is sounding like a centrist.
I thought the middle was winning this time because ALL of the candidates are paying attention to us now.
I think nothing worth winning is ever won easily. So shimmy up to the bar and keep fighting.
If its just Clinton that you wanted, I am sorry.
I AM Fighting for our Nation. As drivelly as that sounds, I am.
Whoever is the Democratic Candidate will get my heartfelt support and my phyiscal presence in the campaign.
And just to put this into perspective, If the DEMS were the boogey men, I'd have voted republican. But for all you McCain people, I can't in all conscience vote for a party that allowed such evil to be created for nothing more than greed.
Apparently white people hold a grudge for a long time: ever since Democrats pushed for African-American voting rights and integration, most whites haven't voted for a Democratic presidential candidate for over 40 years, even as the racial animus got translated into a cleaned-up anti-govenment, anti-crime, anti-tax message.
What I find funny is that if you speak about race in this campaign you are labeled a racist. I'm talking race in terms of winning or losing. 25% of the democratic base is African American. They have always been loyal to the democratic party. They are the reason for Obama's big wins in North Carolina and most of the Southern States where they account for more than 30% of the democratic votes. We know he will pick them up in the fall. He also does better with young people, but we also know those are the most unreliable of voters. Hillary on the other hand attracts older voters, the most reliable, Women, the largest block of voters, and Reagan Democrats, the truly swing voters. So now it looks like it will be Obama against McCain. McCain is popular with white working class voters, he can draw independents, and he'll draw all the republicans who realize that Obama has been named the most liberal senator in Washington. Latinos also like McCain because he has a compassionate view on immigration. Obama will probably pick Richardson to be his VP and that will further alienate Clinton voters to either not vote or switch over to McCain. So balance it out, if Obama is the nominee the democrats are gonna lose again. So because of the media's witch hunt, we democrats are going to lose an election that should be a sure thing. They went after Hillary from the very beginning. The attacks were mostly personal and relentless, but they kept it up and didn't touch Obama until Rev. Wright. Even then, they played him as the poor fellow who was betrayed by his pastor. While Hillary was being called a pimp, he was being called a prophet. Chris Matthews, Jack Cafferty, Tucker Carlson, Eugene Robinson, Keith Olberman, Mika Brzezinski to name just a few have ridiculed her and called it journalism. Now we unrealistically believe that because we want to win, we will win. We tell the candidate with the best chance of winning to sit back and watch us lose. Tsk, tsk, democrats, we're shooting ourselves in the foot again.
Hillary in the VP spot, aint going to happen! Hillary in the VP is too counter to Obama's "brand". If it must be a Clintonite my choice would be Clark.
I always thought racism began with labeling. There has been plenty of labeling and lumping together in this campaign -- on all sides, republican and democrat. Most of it derogatory.

Democratic Senators are working to combat rising oil and fuel prices by attacking what many Americans see as the heart of the problem: speculative trading.
Many politicians and energy industry analysts blame oil speculators for cashing in on the fuel cost crisis and, in the process, boosting the price of oil. Hedge funds, trusts, and independent investors have also poured funds into crude oil as a hedge against the weakened dollar http://biz.yahoo.com/cnnm/080508/050808_senate_gas_prices.html?.v=1
With Kenny boy dead, maybe the Enron loophole can be closed,
Corey, reg. we're shooting ourselves in the foot again.
I agree with everything you said so much, I could have written it.
It's so frustrating that this campaign has chosen to call everything Racism. I think it's done to incite fear. That way we'll be afraid to say anything negative about Obama's team or we'll be called racist. I have never seen anything like it.
If BHO picks Richardson, he can have him...I no longer want him as my governor. And RIchardson will not have any electorial strength in the GE. His numbers were so bad in primaries -- I think about ten people voted for him. Gosh...I can't think of a worse choice for VP.
BHO has some major repair work ahead of him if he expect to gain the faith and trust of the D blue collar voter. Most of these mis-speaks are glossed over by the MSM who are providing him cover. When HRC calls on whites for supports, it is reported as racial, when BHO suggest the voters living in between Philly and Pittsburgh, who are mostly white, are clinging to guns and religion, is not racially meant, it was a poor choice of words. When BHO said, his grandmother is "typical white person". The MSM nod in agreement.
BHO likes to mix events to represent a mosaic picture of what his life was like. His mother was on food stamps, but he was raised by his grandparents, yet some how he managed to go to a prep school. He speaks of his experience living in foreign countries and how that experience has benefited him, how it has aided him in viewing the world. But how old was BHO when this occurred? He lived in Indonesia from the age of 6 till he was 10, and then returned to Hawaii. The mind of a child conjures up images both real and fantasy. Think back to when you were 6 to 10. I believe more strongly now then ever his drug use admission is purely fantasy. No friends, or associates, not even the one who have admitted to using and some selling drugs, have ever seen him as much take a hit of a joint. They found his statement shocking.
Brian Ross was one of the first MSM to report on BHO and his spiritual leader the Rev. Jemimah Wright. 20 years attending the church Wright ministered at, the same minister who married him and Michelle, the minister who baptized his children, the same minister from spewed racial hate and lies from the pulpit , yet BHO doesn't recall any such sermons, must of happened when I wasn't there. No one ever said anything to me. And the majority of the MSM accepts his accounting without question. Bur it wasn't till Wright called BHO a typical politician, did BHO back away from Wright. BHO is your typical politician, he just has a different way in presenting himself.
Not being a D, and not fond of the Clinton's, but I have seen HRC in a different light. I won't vote for HRC, but I wouldn't loose any sleep if she was elected POTUS. I can't say that of BHO, there are just to many unanswered questions about both him and the path he wants to take America down. The SD's are in between a rock and a hard place. They know HRC is the stronger candidates, but they also have this guilt complex going on of how can they, the D party, deny the nominee to a Afro-American, even though they know him to be the weaker of the 2 candidates. The Pied Piper plays his flute and the children blindly follow.
During the '96 election , I was basically told by people close to me "How could you even consider voting for Bill Clinton again?" Then in 2004 someone at work said to us , "When you vote tomorrow , make sure you do the right thing." I took that as "Make sure you vote for President Bush." I believe a person should vote for whoever they want to vote for and not feel pressured to vote for a candidate just because people tell them this is who they should vote for. I guess there was always a reason for my Dad keeping who he voted for to himself.
It's almost 10 now and only a few more superdelegates have made up their mind, if Obama is the nominee then why are they holding out. I can't believe they are just being nice to Hillary and let this play out.
Also if I lived in WVA or KY and I was a BHO supporter I would be upset that he already gave up on winning the state. I was angry at Hillary when she went onto the next state the night of the VA primary. But at least she did not say to us that she already loss she gave her allgive up a week before the election. I know they do this if they think they lost but I felt we were nothing to her.
I think it is people like Skylark that make the majority of loyal, lifelong dems really feel the way we do. Don't worry Skylark, you don't have to toss us out...many of us will go willingly. And Sheila...it is not HRC...I have wanted a dream ticket all along...it is the nasty nature of poeple like Skylark. Party hijackers.
Craig, I have to agree with you! If I could be rational for a moment, I would say that that would be a great ticket and President Clinton could lend his experience as a knowledgeable advisor. But I am just too emotional having recently become an Obamacan! I would like to see him make his very on VP pick and he can choose one who will be helpful in those states where he needs help.
nogrudge there are many people who in the Clinton camp who would be more than suitable in the VP slot. Just not her! Obama has built his campaign on running against politics as usual, to put the queen of politics as usual in the number 2 spot would just be too counter to Obama's msg and frankly would enrage his most loyal supporters.
If it's over as they say it is then the Supers should be flocking to him by now. Not just a few of them. What are they waiting for. If they all agree this is hurting the party then this does not make any sense. They could end it in the next few hrs. If they don't what message are they sending. I just can't beleive Hillary would just throw her money away if she does not have a chance at this. Going to three states yesterday, why bother killing yourself over nothing. No one in their right mind would do that even her. There has to be something going on in the back rooms that we don't know about.
FryDaddy, reg. I wouldn't loose any sleep if she was elected POTUS. Most of the Super delegates decide together how and when they are going to vote. I think it's all precisely planned (not without exception, of course). Have you noticed how the Sentate and House always know exactly how many are going to vote one way or another well ahead of time. They report on TV how the vote will go BEFORE it's even taken. They agreed to the outcome of this primary already. This ihas been much more planned and slanted all along than we can imagine.

For Hillary to take the #2 spot would be a serious insult. She should stay in the Senate. If Obama pulls off a miracle and wins the general, the Senate won't even know he's gone.

Craig,
I think the "dream ticket" would help unite the party, but I don't think it will happen.

If Obama doesn't take Hillary as his running mate -- then he needs to look outside the circle of other DEM candidates. They were all Senators. He needs a Governor. The executive experience would balance his own inexperience. A plus if the governor is from a swing state that will bring voters to the DEM ticket.

Good Morning Alicia,
I still think both of them on the ticket, in theory, would force the best of the best to work together.
Just a theory.

Good morning...
God Bless.

However, to most people, the economy is the most important. Since you want links for proof:

The tone of the Obama campaign to Clinton (and Edwards when he was still in the race) will prevent any Democratic Party unity.
The general election is not a caucus.

There are a whole slew of BOBW as well. They may vote for Obama in November, but they aren't happy with the way they have been treated by the men and kids either after a few centuries of trying to hold families together.

The Krugman column lays it out. I think this is where Obama's lack of maturity (same for his supporters) have created some big problems.
This is not Stockholm and the general election is not a caucus.

Jamie,

Maybe he does need Hillary on the ticket. Since the media loves to bash her they can continue to do this and he can continue to have the free ride. Also when they do start on him she can jump in and reflect it to her by getting all the attention. I am not sure if he can handle all the trash that is going to come his way. I don't think that most of Clinton's supporters were racists at the beginning of her campaign, but those who still stand with her today? Yes. They are racists.

Posted by: Corey
| May 9, 2008 9:53 AM

Senate Democrats: Close oil speculation loophole
Thursday May 8, 11:42 am ET
By David Goldman, CNNMoney.com staff writer
Democratic Senators are working to combat rising oil and fuel prices by attacking what many Americans see as the heart of the problem: speculative trading.
Many politicians and energy industry analysts blame oil speculators for cashing in on the fuel cost crisis and, in the process, boosting the price of oil. Hedge funds, trusts, and independent investors have also poured funds into crude oil as a hedge against the weakened dollar

Skylark, Do you really think Obama can when without ANY of Hillary's supporters?

Obama narrows Clinton lead in superdelegates
Rep. Donald Payne, a New Jersey Democrat and an early Clinton supporter, told The (Newark) Star-Ledger that he was switching to Obama.

Obama also picked up the endorsement of the influential American Federation of Government Employees union on Friday.
Gage, a previously uncommitted superdelegate to the Democratic National Convention, said he is also personally endorsing Obama.
Rep. Peter DeFazio of Oregon also plans to formally endorse Obama and campaign with him at events Friday in Eugene and Albany, Ore.

nogrudge there are many people who in the Clinton camp who would be more than suitable in the VP slot.
