PHILADELPHIA -- This will be a night to carefully evaluate the popular vote totals. The Pennsylvania primary offers Hillary Rodham Clinton a critical opportunity to cut Barack Obama’s national overall lead by some 200,000 votes. But that would still leave him half a million votes ahead (not counting Florida or Michigan) -- a lead of about 1.6 percentage points.
The nationwide popular vote race is significant because it represents Clinton’s only chance for a winning argument to Democratic superdelegates who will ultimately decide the outcome. Given the way Democrats proportionally (or is it DISproportionally?) award elected delegates (no winner take all), it appears all but impossible for Clinton to catch up in the pledged delegate category. Likewise, Obama cannot get to victory in this category, which is why the superdelegates rule.
With at least a 200,000-vote margin of victory in Pennsylvania, Clinton can edge ahead of Obama in popular vote by the end of the primary season in early June. But to do so, she must hold his leads in North Carolina, Oregon, South Dakota and Montana to no more than 10 percentage points, beat him by at least two percentage points in Indiana and post big double-digit wins in West Virginia, Kentucky and Puerto Rico.
That is a tall order, but that’s what it takes for Clinton to impress the remaining 250 undecided superdelegates.

MSNBC keeps lowering the standards for professional journalism. Now they love to broadcast rumor as as news, provided it benefits St. Obama.
David Shuster was just chomping at the bit to ask former Governor Roamer "Is it true super-delegates were about to break for Obama in a big way?" It was hysterical looking at Shuster's face when Roamer could NOT confirm that rumor.
Its nonsense like this that strips MSNBC of any credibility in the journalism profession.

maybe it's just me, but craig's math doesn't seem all that daunting, more like a checklist of very real possibilities.
now, to be clear, i will get out and fight in the streets for obama or clinton, whichever the nominee is in the general election. but i do get that "st. obama" vibe coming from the MSM - and it's easy to understand why. look at the candidate material they've had to work with for the past decade.
what i don't understand is the almost instant resuscitation of the vitriol with which the press treated bill clinton, even after 8 years of the worst president in history. it boggles my mind.

See figure 2 which this is what is stated.
"Decisions, decisions, decisions. When it comes to a popular vote count in this year's Democratic presidential race, there are a variety of formulations that can lead to a number of different outcomes. Heading toward the big March 4 primaries in Ohio and Texas, Barack Obama leads in all the basic formulations for tallying the popular vote. But his advantage in some are much narrower than others. And it is arguable that Obama's lead in all of these formulations can still be overturned by a series of strong Hillary Clinton showings in the big states left to vote. The tallies are from all states that voted through Feb. 19 plus the District of Columbia."

As far as campaigning, many discern a negative tone — and more blame it on Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., than on Barack Obama, D-Ill. Two-thirds of Pennsylvania voters in preliminary exit poll results say Clinton attacked Obama unfairly; fewer, but still about half, also say Obama unfairly attacked Clinton.

Ping Pong:
One of my major arguments for Obama is process.
I think the critical challenges the world faces cannot be solved by even the mighty Clintons with this Country divided (especially the division that exists amongst our so-called leaders in Washington).
Clinton can give all the lip service she wants about "working across the aisle". But a significant part of America including voters, law makers and pundits alike have closed the book on the Clintons.
(The Clintons fought the good fight and accomplished many great things - but in doing so - scars and animosity have been built up on each side.)
I am not a fan of partisan thinking. It ends up too much a like a lawsuit with two sides working against each other - instead of working for us.
And I am familiar with all the criticisms of W in the White House - but personally I still think the President of the United States deserves a certain amount of respect (I will fight for the right for you to be able to say whatever you want about the POTUS - but that does not mean I enjoy how that right is sometimes exercised.) The last 7 years I have sat around, usually with Democratic crowds, sneering and hurling insults at the TV while watching the State of the Union.
I think "you people" would be inspired each and every year when Clinton gave that speech. While half the Country hurled insults and empty beer cans at the TV.
I think if Obama gives the next State of the Union speech, a lot more Americans will actually be listening. And that is a good thing.
(Plus - the same Democratic establishment will be backing either Obama or Clinton - and each candidate will be pushing the same basic agenda.)

Since we already know that the Republican Fascist Nazi Party would rather face Hillary in the November election since they believe that a Hillary nomination would unite the party against her the fix could be in to hack the touch screen vote totals in her favor.
So with 85% of unadutiable votes since there is no paper trail to verify against I would certainly question any tally for either candidate if the exit polling is way off.

Political Family
McCaskill's father, William Y. McCaskill, served as a state Insurance Commissioner during the administration of Governor Warren E. Hearnes. Her mother Betty Anne was the first woman elected to the City Council of Columbia MO.
Multimillionaire husband to finance campaign
In April 2002, McCaskill married St. Louis businessman Joseph Shepard. From her marriage to Shepard, she has four stepchildren. Shepard loaned $1.6 million to McCaskill's 2004 gubernatorial campaign, and also had business interests in the nursing home industry. Because as state auditor McCaskill was responsible for auditing the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, which regulates the state's nursing home system, Shepard's financial interests in the industry became an issue during the 2004 gubernatorial campaign

McCaskill's track record.
1) The way she handled only giving a slap on the wrist to an employee (and friend) who used goverment computrs to give information to a meth dealer. Lot of trust there.
2) Her husband made a lot of money on tax credits and using the goverment subisdies to build low income housing, nothing illegal that I know of, but definitely crossing the line as being not of high ethical standards.

I actually like Ed Rendell. Always have. I know he's on the other side, but I just can't help but like him. He's a Democrats Democrat and I think he'll fight for Hillary, but give a 100% effort for Obama when he wins.

Talk about hardball (or some would say "old school politics".)
No wonder why Obama has not won over all of the major hip-hop artists yet....the Clintons are living the "thug life"!!

Correction...
I found another article that said most Touch Screen machines had been decertified and Optical Scan machines had been bought to replace them.
There are still two counties I believe whose Touch Screen machines will still be used and were not ones included in the decertification.
I still don't remember which counties those were though.
God Bless.

"Bill Bennet just made a good point, why doesn't Obama hold a press conference and deal with all of this and get it out on the table."
Because no one looks good under cross examination. He made a speech called "A More Perfect Union" after the race issue came up. Because it is a "real issue" for this Country.
What is going to be the title of this press conference - Obama defends himself against "guilt by association".
Gimme a freaking break. If we had the same "press conference" for the Clintons it would look like the last episode of Seinfeld.

OK
1839, only survivor of a slang fad in Boston and New York c.1838-9 for abbreviations of common phrases with deliberate, jocular misspellings (cf. K.G. for "no go," as if spelled "know go"); in this case, "oll korrect." Further popularized by use as an election slogan by the O.K. Club, New York boosters of Democratic president Martin Van Buren's 1840 re-election bid, in allusion to his nickname Old Kinderhook, from his birth in the N.Y. village of Kinderhook. Van Buren lost, the word stuck, in part because it filled a need for a quick way to write an approval on a document, bill, etc. The noun is first attested 1841; the verb 1888. Spelled out as okeh, 1919, by Woodrow Wilson, on assumption that it represented Choctaw okeh "it is so" (a theory which lacks historical documentation); this was ousted quickly by okay after the appearance of that form in 1929. Okey-doke is student slang first attested 1932.

Given Hillary's Pennsylvania win to add to all the other major state wins she's racked up, I'm sure this race would be over right now if we were playing by the same rules that got McCain nominated.
Does anyone have a handy-dandy chart that could show us what the delegate count would be at this point if the Dems had winner-take-all rules, sted of the pretzel logic that currently dictates delegate selection?
Obviously it's just an academic exercise. But still.

Does anyone else think the nearly full hour of "it's too close to call" chatter by pro-Obama pundits tonite, allowing nearly a full hour of gloom, doom hand-wringing and more "Hillary should drop out immediately" chatter might maybe just have had the effect of pushing more superdelegates to Obama -- no matter even if the final margin tonight ends up meeting everyone's initial expectations?
If so, MSNBC should lose it's broadcast license.

I understand why the networks waited to declare because there were absolutely no raw votes for a very long time.
If you spent 3 minutes looking at the CNN Exit Polls the final result was quite clear..
CNN is very good...I turn to MSNBC for a little comic relief..

Brian:
"Pennsylvania is really the last place Hillary had the funds to mount an effective campaign...."
I don't think you need that much money to run an effective campaign with this much news coverage.
I don't know how many votes are moved by 30-second ads when the candidates are this well known.
PA was hers to win. And the Clinton establishment connections were much more valuable than cash.
(Obama should paid "street money" and bought this election - I bet the Clintonites woulda loved that!!)
