  3. Great picture. I really like the "One More Cow".

I would give my eye teeth to see Sen Clinton and Sen Obama just go head to head. Wouldn't have to be a debate, just a conversation. They are so close on issues, I would just like to get a real measure of the people.

  5. Morn'n all,
Jamie - if BHO and HRC went head to head it may just exaggerate the oratory skills of BHO over HRC, just another venue where he can not answer questions. It might be the final nail in the coffin for HRC.

However it could also show the strength of HRC holding on to make him answer a question – to reveal the true BHO… Which to this just to the right of middle – might be very scary.

  6. Not even 0800 and Stinky's had me help change the sheets, and I'm now on my second load of laundry. You'd think the Chinese were coming (like in 1950).

Well, it's 25-minutes later and she's had me start the third load, help fold the sheets, and move our tomato seedlings out to the back porch (hope the birds don't get them).

Read the Gene Lyons piece that ET posted in the early morning thread. It was over the top but there were elements in it that I agree with.

I really don't think I want to get into a major discussion until after Pennsylvania.

You had to go and remind us about when television was witty and intelligent with a host as brilliant as Steve Allen. Princess Pat of the Met, Jonathan Winters, and PHil Harris on the same show as guests

Favorite Steve Allen production the show "Meeting of the Minds" that he did for PBS. He was quite a musician, but only one really major hit that became his theme song.

  10. Obama Could Get 'Swift Boated'

"Titled "What Is Rove Up To?," Sloan writes that Rove will seek to redefine Obama's signature slogan "Change We Can Believe In" and brand it instead as "revolutionary change, change driven by an alien ideology, change no patriotic American could stomach. And he intends to do so by channeling Sen. Joseph McCarthy."

In the memo, Sloan lays out the case he believes Republicans are making and would make against Obama if he were the Democratic nominee, linking the senator to Weather Underground founders Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn.

"According to Weatherman communiqués and papers compiled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation into a 403 page summary, Ayers and Dohrn toed the Marxist-Leninist-Maoist line. They were hardcore Communists bent on world revolution," Sloan writes.

"Ayers and Dohrn were responsible for bombings of the US State Department, US Capitol, the Pentagon, the National Guard Headquarters and nineteen other sites. Two other Weathermen, the parents of Ayers and Dohrn's adopted son, Chelsa, were convicted of murdering two policemen and a security guard during a Brinks truck robbery," he says.

Sloan says Rove and Republicans would "eviscerate" Obama if he were the Democratic presidential candidate. He recalls links that have been reported in the press between Obama and Ayers and brings up other leftist leaders and ideologues.

"Rove's frame for the fall campaign will be filled with revolutionary figures -- Marx, Lenin, Mao, Ho Chi Minh and Che Guevara. His audio tapes of Ayers, Dohrn and other Weathermen will provide the screams of revolution. The bombing of the US Capitol, the Pentagon and the US State Department will serve as b-roll for his television ads that will have one final visual as the announcer gravely intones 'Their Change -- Not What You Had In Mind?'" he predicts."

The "Sloan" in your quotes above is an avid Clinton supporter -- Rick Sloan, communications director for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. That doesn't discount what he is saying, but it is important context.

I am NOT trying to discourage your contributions, Gordo, just asking that you clearly identify who is being quoted and any relevant affiliations they might have.

Given that McCain could serve only one term... there's a lot to consider there.

Given that Petraeus has been given authority by Bush over Bush in Iraq... and possibly most of the Middle East... and that responsibility for everything gets flushed ten times daily...

Those who say they will vote for their Democratic candidate or no one have something to consider here.

  23. By Big Tent Democrat

NOTE: MTP used the story today. This now becomes an issue. I never thought the Move On/Clinton story actually hurt Clinton, but the methods used by the HuffPo poster have come under fire from Paul Lukasiak:
    http://www.talkleft.com/story/2008/4/20/9259/02194

At the same time, though, in light of questions on this very topic raised even by the NYT back in 2003, it is difficult to take the article's underlying points seriously as though they are some kind of new revelation. And ultimately, to the extent there are new revelations here, they are a far greater indictment of our leading news organizations than the government officials on whom it focuses.

It's too bad that an organization such as that is hijacked from its original 527 purpose. I was in it from its inception until they started this endorsement BS. That's when I asked them to drop me from their mailings.

I wasn't a big contributor, maybe a couple of hundred a year, but I was committed to the organization's stated goals.

MoveOn comprises two legal entities, each organized under a different section of U.S. tax and election laws:

MoveOn.org Civic Action, a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization, formerly known as MoveOn.org, primarily focuses on education and advocacy on national issues.

MoveOn.org Political Action, a federal political action committee, formerly known as MoveOn PAC, gives contributions to candidates across the country to advance causes in Congress and help elect selected political candidates.

  30. GORDO,

Would it be too much to ask for you to either suggest a strategy for dealing with your apocalypse -- or to cite strategies for addressing it?

As you have made this your cause, there should be an alternative "next step" to the one you keep foreseeing --

You know, the one off a cliff.

Yes, attacks will come if Senator Obama is the nominee.

You also might want to show a little versatility in exposing the same about McCain who actually has committed MAJOR criminal acts (as has his wife) and gotten away with them.

Give your mind a little exercise.

    You won't be a Cassandra.

But for all your myriad to endless postings.... you really will have accomplished nothing more than you did with the first half dozen.

If Hillary REALLY wants to be president, if she's devoted herself to this for YEARS, how come she never climbed on a stairmaster to lose her giant butt?
    Voters don't want a pair-shaped candidate.

And McCain wears a corset. (Am I the only one who has noticed this?)

And let us not forget how he looked on the deck of the aircraft carrier, in a flight suit. One cannot discount the subliminal effect this had on voters.

Thus, the next debate should not be a "debate." It should be an aerobics competition followed by weight lifting.

  49. Well, Craig, we hear a lot from CNN and I doubt they provide links to this kind of stuff

    http://www.nypost.com/seven/04192008/news/regionalnews/kinky_news_networkcnns_quest_a_very_knot_107174.htm

Recently. Redog said that one of my links was to a Wacko Paper. Well, if you check the contributing writers, they are hardly all wackos and the links provided in the article itself were further linked to other sources that are credible. Ayers and Wright simply scrape the surface of a substantial network of people who work towards goals that Obama claims he opposes. Obama's associations with ISM go fairly deep and to say this is just destraction is both arrogant and foolish.

Yesterday I listed important policy positions that Obama has declared made dubious by recent events. He appears as stubborn as Bush. Pkaistan, Iran, Syria, Chavez, Columbia, Sudan are all areas where Obama is wrong. Even after the first hour of "distractions", Obama looked clueless in addressing questions on Israel and the economy. Unfortunately, all these things make Obama much weaker against McCain. Do Democrats think they can win on loyality? How smart is that?

Great tulips. And I wonder how it's like sitting next to Uberman after reading 9/11's post some days back, or even letting him benefit by the House version of the Press Bill. Since the Press knows what IT wants, I rather doubt they will inform the public about what is at stake. Will you?

Chuck Todd: "Drudgereport has a picture of Hillary in a thong swimsuit, taken by a paparazzi with a telephoto lens. It's not a pretty sight, but shouldn't we be talking about Iraq?"

Chris Matthews: "NO. Do you think that photo may have been leaked by the Obama campaign?"

Pat Buchanan: "They're denying it, Chris, but I have talked to people on the Obama campaign staff who said it was taped to their coffee machine for a week before it showed up on Drudge."

About 30-40% actually hand deliver them to numerous sites like libraries, schools, and fire stations in the last couple of days before election.

I was originally opposed to the mail-in system, but the suspected problems with it never occurred.

Mason-Dixon: Clinton Ahead By Five In Pennsylvania
    By Eric Kleefeld - April 20, 2008, 2:24PM

A new Mason-Dixon poll of Pennsylvania gives Hillary Clinton the lead for Tuesday's primary, but it's not a big one: Clinton 48%, Obama 43%.

According to the pollster's analysis, "the lead doesn't indicate she's going to win by a large enough margin to make a serious impact on Obama's overall delegate lead."

The poll also indicates that Obama may have had some small success in reaching out to blue-collar voters -- in a very fun statistic, the two candidates are tied at 44% each among beer drinkers.

  85. So while the poll shows Clinton with a narrow lead (and arguably a narrowing lead), the clues inside the numbers indicate this is her race to lose and that her lead could expand. Should this race end up as close as this poll indicates (i.e. 5 points or less), then this means many of these undec. potential Clinton voters decided to stay home; If the come to the polls, she could see her lead climb to over 5 points.

    He concludes:

And that’s the game Tuesday, not if Clinton will win, but how big will her victory be. She’d like to net more than 200K in the popular vote which she would only get with both a large turnout (approx. 2 million total) and a 10 point victory.

'Vast right-wing conspiracy' leader's paper backs Clinton

"PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Could it be the "vast right wing conspiracy" is having second thoughts? Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton was endorsed Sunday by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, whose owner and publisher, billionaire Richard Mellon Scaife, personally funded many of the investigations that led to President Clinton's impeachment in 1998.

In its endorsement, Tribune-Review editors said Obama is too inexperienced to be president and that his recent comments about bitter voters living in small towns showed a lack of respect for middle-class values.

Scaife spent $2.3 million to fund a series of articles by The American Spectator magazine that dug into Bill Clinton's behavior as governor of Arkansas.

Hillary Clinton famously defended her husband at the time, saying the allegations were part of a "vast right-wing conspiracy" heavily funded by Scaife."

I drive a 17 year old van and I would guess that I average about 10 to 11 gallons a week and around 100 miles or less per week.

Last week I filled up and the tank took 8.825 gallons and I put 104 miles on the odometer. Now there is a difference between what I actually use because I don't top off. I try to round to the dollar. It cost me $30 dollars and I paid 3.399 a gallon.

This week today when I filled up the tank took 7.890 gallons or just a little less than 1 gallon from the week before. I put on 91 miles or 13 miles less than the week before. I paid $28 dollars for the fill up.

Just looking at the above it cost me $2 dollars less than the previous week. However, the price per gallon was 3.549 a difference of .15 cents a gallon.

Now last week I did try to top off so I might have paid for one gallon less if I didn't try topping off and it would have cost me around $1 less than I paid today. Or if I did top off today I might have gotten another gallon in the tank and it would have cost me more than it did last week even though I put less miles on.

Notice also that there was a .15 increase putting the price of gas over $3.50 a gallon.

My thought or question is how long do you think it will be before gas is actually over $4 dollars a gallon where you live?

The clerk told me that their cost went up three times over the past week so at this rate of just a nickel a week we will be paying $4 dollars a gallon by the end of June of in another 10 weeks.

If it raises more than .5 cents a week as it did this last week gas could be over $4 dollars a gallon within a month.

And like usual it will not come down a hell of a lot when the price does start dropping.

You think the average citizen is not bitter about the cost of everything that is needed and not a luxury than you will see very bitter and angry citizens in the remaining Primary's.

    Think about that for awhile.

We should now believe that the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy no longer exists and its greatest supporter is no longer evil?

Don't see it that way. I probably followed the Clinton "scandals" more closely than most here - will not go into the reason. This doesn't bother me at all. I am fully aware of RMS's activities in going after the Clintons.

Gas always goes up this time of year about 15 cents. I believe for the summer ozone reduction.

Something my wife and I have been noticing is the change in Cars being driven. 2 years ago my little daiwoe station wagon was the littlest car on the road. on the freeway we would be surrounded by big SUVs not any more. Now I am in the middle of the pack. mfewer SUVs are being driven and more small cars.
My 3/4 ton 350 ford pickup is still king of the road. Or at least the driveway where it sets most days.

  144. With population crowding seven billion, pollution destroying food supplies all over the earth and more and more land being turned over to fuel production, the price of gas will be the least of our worries in fairly short order.

  152. New Zogby poll today:

UTICA, New York—New York's Hillary Clinton remains barely ahead of rival Barack Obama of Illinois leading up to Tuesday's presidential primary in Pennsylvania, a new Newsmax/Zogby daily tracking poll shows.

Her advantage is a statistically insignificant three points, 46% to 43%, over Obama, as support in the race ebbs and flows within a tight margin—she led by five points yesterday. The two-day tracking survey, which was conducted April 18-19, 2008, included 11% who were either undecided or supported someone else.

Florida will be counted....Michigan will be counted.

Obama has spent over 8+ million dollars trying to keep
pace with Clinton and he is still behind in the PA polls.

that is a clear indiction that despite the crowds we see
    he is still struggling.

    8.2 MILLION! AND STILL BEHIND?
He has all these people endorsing him every single day and he still has to spend 8.2MILL, AND STILL BEHIND?
