Is Pennsylvania already old news? Indiana’s May 6 primary could be the really REALLY big showdown, as political buzz makers ponder the probabilities that Hillary Rodham Clinton wins Pennsylvania on April 22 and Barack Obama bags North Carolina.
After that, we start to run out of states. Unless Puerto Rico settles the Democratic feud, maybe Europe should vote. Clinton and Obama could travel the globe looking for a nation state of interested citizens who are willing to provide final resolution. How about the Lichtenstein Primary?
Ah, but wait -- if Democrats are not counting Florida and Michigan, foreigners are definitely out. Indiana will have to do.

Are there any debates scheduled between Clinton and Obama, or are they both just going all out with the individual campaigning? Seems that a good debate could help some of the non-committed voters coalesce around one of the candidates and perhaps give the Dems some direction.

NRCC Now Trying To Recruit Democrats As Candidates — And Failing
By Eric Kleefeld - April 2, 2008, 5:35PM
Here's a case study in the problems that the Republicans have been having recruiting House candidates: The man they thought would be a top get for an open Dem-held seat decided that not only is he not running, but also that for now he's not even becoming a Republican.
It all started when Rep. Bud Cramer (D-AL), a relatively conservative Dem representing a district that President Bush carried with 60% of the vote, announced his retirement a couple weeks ago. The Republicans looked for a candidate, and had nearly found one in conservative Democratic state Sen. Tom Butler, who was on the verge of switching parties to make the race.
However, Butler announced yesterday that he's not running after all, and he's staying as a Democrat for at least the remainder of this legislative session. He'd scheduled his press conference and written his announcement speech, with the intention of switching parties, but decided at the last minute that he didn't want to go through the rigors of fundraising for a high-stakes race.
We've left a message with Butler's office, and hope to get in touch and find out more about his experience as an almost-candidate.
Good luck, NRCC — the filing deadline is this Friday

Craig
Finally! You gave a good explanation on Imus about how we choose a nominee. If everyone in the msm understood the process they wouldn't be calling for an end to this race.In Rummy the game isn't over until someone gets 500 points. In this race you need 2024 delegates and if no one gets those numbers on first vote, then they revote until enough delegates change sides until they do get the required amount. That's where super delegates come in.And that is playing by the rules.Otherwise why have a convention and why have super delegates. This is not a coronation. And Craig you are right they are virtually tied.Neither of them have enough delegates. And anything can happen in the next 4 months. On either side.So lets not get our panties in a knot and let the game contunue

Brian, there were a few photos - the one you referred to and Lush linked was John naked and Yoko clothed from the Rolling Stone cover, the bed photo was them in PJs in the Amsterdam Hilton, I believe. The photos of both of them nude were for the Two Virgins album cover.

You still don't get it Brian. Of course he will. They all have to. Obama's crowd has now set it up so to do anything else means the entire Democratic party is racist. I guess it was a smart strategy.

From Mike Allen @ Politico.com:
"THE ARGUMENT — George Stephanopoulos on "World News": "Sources with direct knowledge of the conversation between Sen. Clinton and Gov. Bill Richardson … prior to the governor's endorsement of Obama, say she told him flatly, 'He cannot win, Bill. He cannot win.' "
It gets a Drudge banner and is the cover of the N.Y. Post: " 'Obama can't win' - Hill made brazen claim to sway Barack backer."
***PLAYBOOK EXCLUSIVE - PAUL HARVEY'S THE REST OF THE STORY: It turns out it was Governor Richardson who told the Clintons that he did not think Obama could win when he promised them he would not endorse Obama. According to a source with knowledge of the conversation, the governor said then that Obama was too inexperienced. "
Posted by: tz | April 3, 2008 9:57 AM
Source: Richardson said Obama can't win
"New Mexico Governor, in talks with both Clintons about his endorsement, is said to have been the one to argue that Obama did not have the experience necessary to beat McCain.
A Clinton associate reacts: “Bill Richardson is clearly embarrassed that he broke his promise to them.”

I do know that this badly compromises any credibility we might have in an argument against the installation of defensive missile systems in Cuba.

Pogo,
Russia has already made a move with Chavez. Today Hugo is calling the documents about his funding FARC are US/Columbian lies. I wonder if JFK would agree with Obama's plans which may very well bring about that Russian sub base they always wanted.
And pleae note the logic of Brian last night in pointing out Carter's deal between Israel and Egypt as a reason not to fear another Carteresque administration. Wasn't Sadat murdered by militants and moved to the table by land for peace? Arafat rejected that offer. Unfortunately many Jews don't buy that arguement and Malley. Zbig and McPeak are a bet worse than Carter's team. Seems Egypt got a better deal, yes?

A Rogue Nation Rekindles Cold War
http://america-weeps.blogspot.com/2007/06/rogue-nation-rekindles-cold-war.html
This is where we may be heading very soon. I do expect us to be involved in a War with Iran before the elections and the Dark Lords visits to the same regions and countries this time around could mark the beginning of it.
While our attention is turned to the nomination contest going on they are planning the next war.
While everyone bickers about who's electable and who's not the wheels of War ratchet up and before anyone realizes it it will be to late to stop.
Hope it doesn't happen, however it appears very likely now.

Politico website: that's interesting. Pulled it up about 10 mins. ago to research Mike Allen story "tz" referenced.
Very briefly, they had up story on Jimmy Carter "all but endorsing" Obama, as reported by a Nigerian paper; might have mentioned Carter has met some of Obama's relatives in Africa ... I clicked on Allen story; in meantime the JCarter story has disappeared and not reappeared on Politico's homepage.
April Fool's joke? Another erroneous Nigerian email?

Max & AP, no, really, I do think that Cuba and Venezuela present prime opportunities for Russia to stage its own missile defense system in the west, and Raul and Chavez would just love to stick it to the US. It does indeed bear watching. In this case, Nato is not necessarily our friend as we attend to the world but ignore our own back yard.

Craig, again, I think you're simply keeping the story alive in a really reprehensible, and uncreative, way - how many "showdowns" does this election need? I understand it's in the media's best interest to keep the narrative of the race alive, but come on, can you at least be original about your coverage? Another showdown (cue bright lights, explosions)? Really? isn't this race, other than through some technicality on the part of the Clinton campaign and the super delegates, over for all intents and purposes?

Well Eurotom here claims Europe supports Obama. One thing that Obama can point to as an accomplishment is that he has already damaged the Democrat's history by trashing the Clinton era. And that was the only time they hel power during the last twenty-eight years. Obamniacs scream that Hillary is hurting the party, but the damage Obama has done undelies the real reason he might lose against McCain. Still, if he loses, the Left will claim that women liar Hillary screwed the Democrats. To hear Travis S on Maher joke about "God Damn America and claim MLK said essentially the same thing is quite astonishing for no other reason than his fellow white pundits taking no offense. Klien tried but was quickly pounced on.

I think you people are going a little overboard on claiming Obama has "trashed" the Clinton legacy. I am not sure about all of the nasty things you claim Obama has said (but I think many are attributing statements to Obama that have been made by pundits or Obama supporters - to the extent there is any difference ; )
I am familiar with the Reagan comments - and I don't think that statement was so bad (and it was also true).
Moreover, the Clinton legacy IS NOT trashed. I agree it has been tarnished during this campaign - but that has a lot more to do with the way the former President has conducted himself and the media - than anything Obama has said. (Of course the fact that Obama is beating the Clintons might hurt their legacy - but he can't be blamed for that).
And listen, the real problem with Bill - is that he is acting like an over-enthusiastic spouse of a candidate - as opposed to acting like a former President. So I don't think he can be faulted TOO much for that.
Plus, look on the bright side - once Obama wins and the Clintons back him as the Democratic nominee - much of this nonsense will be forgotten and the Clintons will get back to adding to their legacy - rather than detracting from it.

Pogo, I agree and NATO resists a new vision that would increase Cybersecurity and protect energy supplies. I think however, Russia would not have much of a case that US ballistic missles threaten Cuba or South America. Also the BBC reports that South America has increased their positive take on the US despite US Media spin. Even Chavez was defeated by his own people.
Also, please note the Gore deal that let Russia continue to supply Iran with arms and technology in order to protect US arm exports to NATO and other US allies. This is a fact. Adding Gore to an Obama team might be questionable if it involves foreign policy. Also Gore made some pretty harsh rants about removing Saddam and the consequence of Saddam re-armed.
One other point: Russia has been testing a manueverable re-entry warhead, though they call it a capsule. Clear violation of anti-ballistic treaty. As the world awaits Iranian sats in space, the question if whether their launch vehicle to do this constitues a ballistic missile capable of reaching Europe or even the US is strange. Personally, I think Iran lauching a nuke at us is absurd, but such a reality serves as a deterrent against bad moves they make. The real danger is fingerprintless delivery systems and radioactive material which is exactly what FARC wants.

I agree with K and the spin that 1. Obama did not trash the Clintons and 2. this is the greatest fodder for Republicans is simply wrong. Another example of Obamniacs wanting it both ways. If I were the Clintons my support would be little at best and Hillary SHOULD not tarnish herself with what will follow an Obama administration by taking the VP. Bill has every reason to be red-faced as he has been tarred and feathered, called a racist and placed along side of Nixon.

Jason:
Time is not on Hillary's side. Her best chance to win this thing was on Feb. 5. And one of the most clear trends from this campaign - is that when Obama has time - he is able to close the gap in states that favor Clinton.
He outspends her because he gets more donations - which is a good sign of enthusiasim - especially the way Obama raises money.
And once again - with feeling - there is no secret problem or inadequacy with Obama that - "prevents him from closing the deal." (which I think was a phrase coined by Mary Matlin - the GOP is using Clinton supporters like GORDO to do their dirty work so that McCain can keep his hands clean).
Anyways - back to the point. Obama will not "close the deal" or "deliver a knock out blow" because Clinton has very loyal supporters that will not vote for Obama with her still in the race. This explains Obama's supposed "problem with white voters." These people aren't racist - they just love the Clintons!!
So I guess we will just have to be patient and continue to watch Obama win more delegates, votes and states.
Patience is a virtue....

OK, getting locked out. Trying for third time here:
Jason at 10:32 a: Can someopne enlighten me about the Richardson story. Don´t understand who said what when..... A bit clueless
====
Jason and tz: have been looking into the Richardson story and am wondering myself if it should have ever hit the airwaves. Can find no attribution of sources whatsoever. (Drudge and NY Daily News offer no named sources either.) Can other C List readers help here?
RE ABC News report last night by George Stephanopoulos, per ABC Political Radar site today:
NOTE: I will list link in next post. Wondering why C List won't accept this post so left it out of this one.
Pertinent parts: "Sources with direct knowledge of the conversation between Sen. Clinton and Gov. Bill Richardson, D-N.M., prior to the Governor's endorsement of Obama say she told him flatly, "He cannot win, Bill. He cannot win."
Richardson, who served in President Clinton's cabinet, disagreed. [FIRST ITEM, MULTIPLE SOURCES, NONE NAMED]
.... Yet here's a wrinkle, from a source with direct knowledge of Richardson's conversations with the Clintons: Richardson himself told Sen. Clinton and former President Clinton that he didn't think Obama could win, back when he was (according to the Clintons) telling them earlier this year that he wouldn't endorse Obama. [
"Too inexperienced," Richardson said, the source tells ABC News. [SAME OR ANOTHER UNIDENTIFIED SOURCE RE CONVERSATION EARLY THIS YEAR]
=====
tz was grousing about no MSM coverage, but here's what Mark Halperin put up in Time mag online:
Labeled: Comment from Clinton Associate: “Bill Richardson is clearly embarrassed that he broke his promise to them. He should come out and tell the truth and admit that he told both Clintons that Obama wasn’t ready and can’t win.”
========
I am mystified why ABC or Time went with these stories, when no one was willing to speak for attribution.

Right after SC, I saw Tucker Carlson read a few quotes from very straight-forward memo from the Obama campaign - and then paraphrase them and inject charges of racism that I did not see in the statements.

That's not the point. The point is that we didn't want Russian Missiles on our doorstep and now were putting our Missiles on there doorstep.
Russia putting a Missile Defense Shield in Cuba and staging the actual war heads in Venezuela is no different than what we are doing.

Here's item from Talking Points Memo: putting it up because reporter says "Shipley" wouldn't return calls, and that's first time a name has surfaced ...
"Top Hillary Adviser: Richardson Privately Said Obama Is Unelectable
By Greg Sargent - April 3, 2008, 9:59AM
This morning, Mark Halperin quoted a Clinton "associate" saying that Bill Richardson privately had confided to the Clintons that he thought Obama couldn't win a general election.
Now I've got more. A top Hillary adviser confirms this, telling me:
"Bill Richardson repeatedly promised he would not endorse Obama -- and the reason he gave was that Obama wasn't ready -- he couldn't be elected."
After the news broke yesterday that Bill Clinton grew angry in a meeting with California super-delegates, and asserted that Richardson had promised five times not to endorse Obama, a Richardson spokesperson denied that Richardson ever promised Hillary any endorsement.
But that isn't what is being reported. Rather, what's being reported is that Richardson promised he wouldn't endorse Obama. Shipley didn't return my call asking for comment on that.
Now a top Hillary adviser has asserted to me that this happened, and claims that Richardson said the reason for this was that he didn't think Obama could win.
We'll be reporting this out more today."

Anon, you're acting nutty again. First JFK put American Jupiter nuclear missiles in Turkey and that figured greatly in the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Russia is not objecting to Missile Defense in Europe because it tagets new nukes at them, but rather reduces the threat of their nukes they use for pychological reasons (see threats to target Ukraine).
Your analysis is completely wrong as usual and in the end MissileDefense will come because of the proliferation of short range, intermediate rang and long range missiles. NK is producing a medium range missile that can be fires clandestinely from cargo containers on ships or from others small sea-based platforms. And Obama should remember this push for defensive technology came from Reagan and has been supported in a bipartisan way.
Do your homework and if you are confused about the Cuban Missile Crisis, see Avalon archives over at Yale. Read what JFK and Russia actually said, not what you imagine.
Posted by: Maxtrue | April 3, 2008 11:34 AM
Max, the argument would likely go something like this - we have to position the defensive missiles so that they could intercept and destroy the US nucs before they reach Europe, where they would be intercepted by the US and NATO missile defense system. It might not be compelling, and may not even be plausible based on the systems involved, but it's an argument I'd expect to hear.
Posted by: pogo
| April 3, 2008 11:36 AM
And Max, don't misunderstand me - I am not saying that I expect any of this to occur or even that Russia would float the idea as a trial balloon to see how the West would react, just that it bears watching.
Posted by: pogo

At least you get it. The defense shield were putting in is in the Chec {not sure of the spelling} Republic and the Missiles would be in Poland on Russia's doorstep.
That makes for a first strike by us hard to stop. If Russia puts a defense shield in Cuba and stages their Missiles in Venezuela they would still be able to retaliate against a first strike against us.
They would also be able like you said to stop any Missiles launched at Europe by us and becomes a deterrent against America using Nuclear Missiles in a first strike against any foreign government we intend to do Nation Building in.
