Michigan Dems Agree on June 3 Do-Over
While Florida Democrats search for a limited do-over plan (see Webcam report above), Michigan Democrats are close to an agreement with presidential candidates Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama to hold a new primary. If that happens. look for stepped-up pressure on Florida to re-run a full primary despite the enormous cost.

Good morning all.
A big deal was made about Michele Obama's proud to be an American comment. So let me say I fully agree with her.
I'm no longer proud to be an American and you want to know why?
Because we spy on our own people. We kidnap people and send them to foreign countries to be tortured even if there innocent. We invaded a sovereign country for its resources and destroyed its infrastructure.
We used WMD's against the Iraqi people, our allies and our own troops. We gave mercenaries the right to kill women and children including male civilians even though they did nothing to warrant it.
And there are many others too numerous to mention I'm sure. We have also spread hatred of Hispanics, Muslims and all others who's not pure lily White.
So yes, I not proud to be an American and it looks like I won't be for a very long time to come. They say you get the Government you deserve and if that's still true then prepare for a President McCain in the fall.
Now go ahead and bash me all you want.
God Bless.

Obama’s Pastor: “God Damn America”
"An ABC News review of dozens of Rev. Wright’s sermons, offered for sale by the church, found repeated denunciations of the U.S. based on what he described as his reading of the Gospels and the treatment of black Americans.
Rev. Wright, who declined to be interviewed by ABC News, is considered one of the country’s 10 most influential black pastors, according to members of the Obama campaign."

AP, she said she was proud for the first time in her adult life, a considerable span of time during which there was a lot of positive history for all Americans.
Nobody is proud of our country all the time--not those on the left, center, or right.

Clinton Opens Her Home to Woo Unaligned Lawmakers
"Having mastered the art of town-hall meetings on the campaign trail, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is now holding them in a more comfortable setting: her living room.
On Wednesday night, the Democratic presidential candidate held a private reception for several dozen members of Congress at her house on Whitehaven Street in Kalorama.
But the real mission of the evening was to court lawmakers -- who are also superdelegates in the party's nominating process -- especially those from some of the biggest states.
Clinton replied that superdelegates exist for a reason and should use their own judgment about which candidate would be best in the general election."

I did not say that I wasn't proud to be an American. I said I was no longer proud to be an American. Because that's not what Americans are. Or should I say that's not what this country was built on.
The principles our country was based on are not what we are living under for a long, long time. That America died a long time ago and I definitely am not proud to be associated with that America. Maybe you are.
And if everyone believes its alright for our country to do all the above things I wrote than your no better then those committing those crimes.
You can be as proud as you want of being an American, however under what our country has become I am not.

Dear Craig:
I watch you often, mostly from MSNBC a.k.a. MSBHO [messiah Barack H. Obama network] Hardball, the now defunct Tucker, Countdown etc and always enjoy your segments that are far too short.
You are one of the few credible journalists I respect and perhaps the only one not in the tank for Sen. Obama's campaign.
What amazes me is the hatred for Senator Clinton that permeates through the media and many liberal democratic websites. Daily she gets castigated from both the left and right wing.
Yesterday the whole entire day on MSNBC was spent castigating Senator. Clinton in relation to silly trivial nonsense of a comment by former Rep. Geraldine Ferraro [whom I deeply respect and admire] for a comment she made that was speciously in a deliberate way portrayed as racist, which angered me and simply not true! The whole day was endless replays of Geraldine’s comment, and Hillary’s apology ad nauseum.
Today I would like to see how the media addresses the verbal messianic Black Separatist views of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright who, in one capacity or another has been associated with Senator Obama’s campaign. Many of his homilies have little to do with Senator Obama’s message of hope, unity and reaching out and being inclusive. Let’s face it; Rev. Wright plays an important role in the Senator’s life. Well over 20 years of his life has been devoted to this Church and Reverend. When we attend Sunday or Saturday services, we listen to our pastors and try to carry out what they preach in their homilies and employ it in our everyday lives. Now having prefaced that, what does it say when a Reverend preaches that HIV was sanctioned by government against African Americans, or that [paraphrasing] that America deserved 911 and calling upon God for the damnation of America. In addition, that Americans were horribly wicked for dropping nuclear bombs upon Japan, maybe the Reverend forgot about Pearl Harbor and the Bataan Death March?
The immediate days ahead will be interesting ones, so far at this posting Senator Obama has not repudiated the Rev. Wrights remarks other than a disclaimer by a campaign aide, I suppose they are weighing the situation. On the one hand, if he repudiates the Reverend, he risks possibly alienating the African American community and being labeled an “Uncle Tom” or if he remains non-committal and refuses to renounce and repudiate the Reverend publically will he lose support among whites that have supported him?
All I can say is that the days ahead will be very interesting. In any event, I do not think there will be a revote in Florida and honestly, I see no logical rational reason that the delegates cannot stay as is since both Hillary and Obama’s names were on the ballot. Michigan however is a different story and who knows how that will play out.
Anyway, Craig, you will have to get back at Mica, Joe, and Willy on “Morning Joe” having a little fun at your expense. Anyway, wink wink I like your video in the “hot tub”
Sincerely,
--Heather

"I can't imagine why anyone would go to a church for 20 years if they did not agree with the teachings"
First you might want to educate yourself and not just go with a typical white middle class "oooooh scary blackman reaction" to some carefully edited news clips.
Did you even bother to look at the other related clips that youtube had about Obama's church? There are several interesting ones there.
Or you might just google "Obama , church" and find the church website.
When you look at the wide variety of ministries to church offers to the community maybe you would get an inkling of why a person with Obama's background would be comfortable in that church.
"by their fruits ye shall know them"
The Reverend Wright may have some beliefs and ideas that may make you uncomfortable but he has built a strong, inclusive, community based church

That jovial Uncle...
On MoJo this morning Scarborough was critical of BO's response to Pastor, Rev. J. Wright's "God Damn America" and blaming 9/11 on US policy, while poor Mika's pained expression seemed terminal. BO said of his pastor he is like "everyone's outspoken uncle" reminding me of my own Thanksgiving meals whereby my KKK uncle reveled in his supremacist banter and delighted the children, in similar fashion on any given Sunday at Wright's church.
Milquetoast for BO

I don't know about you, but life is so much better now that I can watch the rebroadcast of a Spring Training game at night, and avoid searching for a lesser evil on cable news.
I hope the Red Sox fans got to see our 59 year-old lead-off hitter strike out yesterday. It took almost 60 years, but Billy Crystal is George Steinbrenner's answer to Eddie Gaedel.
I didn't particularly like the stunt, but I heard Crystal being interviewed from the dugout during the game, and he turned me around a little. Now I'm on the side of-- it provided a little publicity and it did no harm.

kgc,
Interesting how he joins all who got behind Fallon -- and pushed -- and then announces this in order to get more troops, more time and more war in more places.
I think the man simply wants more pages in more future history books... and knows what is going to be written about him now won't be terrific... and that his only chance for iconization for future generations is to try, try, try again and again and again and again.
Gates showed his true nature once again ain't what was written about him. Wasn't the first time either.
Fallon had the only macro vision at the top -- the vision which seems to be the view of the chain of command from the bottom up until it reaches the sclerotic careerists.
To them everything is smaller than life -- not even a micro view but of one that simply accepts that what is before them doesn't really matter, ever ever ever.

Thank You!
Craig & Wendy I appreciate both of your welcomes, and yes I plan to stick around I enjoy the site and the people that comment very much!
I was born and raised in NY but I do have a Florida connetion, my grandfather bought a vacant lot many years ago in Miami Beach when it was dirt cheap and built his own house there for the winter months and as a little girl we used to vist there and I loved going to the beach a few blocks away.
Grandpa has since passed away [lived to 107] but we still keep and maintain the house and I visit it occassionaly.
I guess you can draw a line across the middle of Florida southern half can be Pradise Lost the northern half, Paradise won. Craig probably knows by that I mean that for local politics south Florida is perhaps the most politically corrupt in the union.
Maybe one day south Florida can one day catch up with its nothern half and function in governmental sense as well as it's northern half minus the corruption. One can only hope lol
P.S. Whats with all this condo-mainia in South Florida $750,000 condos are popping up like mushrooms.
You can go to Downtown Miami and probably take a pulitzer prize winning photo of a poor homeless person sleeping on the cold unforgiving concrete sidewalk not more 25 yards away from a million dollar condo, its just heartbreaking [welcome to Bush & Cheney's America]
We can and should have a better America we need to always be vigilant and caring for our nation's must vulnerable and poorest. Sen Edwards was right we can no longer be Two Americas!
No President Bush it is not a sin to be poor, rather it is a sin to ignore the poor and the plight of the poor. Each individual has a responisibility to the poor as well as our government, local, state and federal anything less is inhumane.
Once again thank you Craig, Wendy and all for your kind welcome.
Sincerely,
Heather

Yes, I read the link Craig posted. I see nothing wrong with Obama believing in his church, and again I stand by my post.
I do not understand why my post is so offensive to you. The church is whatever it wants to be, and BHO has the right to his choice. If a person belong to a church for 20 years, I would think that person most likely agrees with the majority of teachings. That's all.
Obviously, this post is a problem for you.

Heather..welcome...you bring-up a good reminder about the poor...and where is Edwards these days?
The homeless problem is a continuation of the Reagan years when his programs released many with mental problems from the federal system into the streets...many Vietnam vets were also fed to the concrete at that time...it is a Republican legacy. I remember a comedian from last century doing a routine about hobos vs the homeless. He claimed that when he was young, he would dress-up on Halloween as a hobo and it was cool. It had more a romantic choice about being without a home and riding trains around the country. Today it is the shame of a government who ignores the mental health issues of its populace and the economic issues of its families in trouble.. Back to universal health care. The US sucks in how it ignores this most urgent need.
And the wealthiest segment of the US continued to grow during the Bush years.

The discussion about Obama's church is curious since only his church is being questioned and not all church's.
I am a non practicing Catholic. I decided long ago that I will never ask for penance from a Priest who is probably molesting children or skimming from the collection plate. I can understand why church's are pro life, yet they try to justify war or turn away from condemning the death penalty.
Northern Ireland has had conflict for generations amongst two groups praying to the same God. I would love if someone could explain what they are fighting about.
Muslims in the Middle East have been fighting for generation, taking breaks during the day, to pray to the same God. The main difference I see with the Sunni's and Shia is that they started fighting over who was the successor to Mohammed. So they were fighting over control of the church instead of advancing their God's word.
The ministers endorsing McCain seem extreme. This Pastor Wright seems extreme. Falwell, Robertson, Swaggert, Haggerd...all of them seem extreme to me.
Those who feel offended by Wright's words about "God Damn America" should realize they they are no different than what more "mainstream" pastors were saying in the aftermath of 9/11. Also remember that he is echoing the general world view of the United States.
If you read the news, our currency is proving to be so worthless that even families of illegals are trying to get funds turned to euros as soon as they get them. We have little prestige left on the world stage and it will only continue to get worse.
I can feel the Archie Bunker, "love it or leave it" argument coming. Just think what would happen if everyone that loved the US did leave...

Blonde wino,
I had just that conversation with my daughter about Reagan during the time of his funeral/apostropication. (Mind you, I've got the complete Korngold score for King's Row on my comp -- THAT role deserved an Oscar and a better career more than he deserved GE and the GE-OP.)
Where IS Edwards indeed?
Man, I would be so wiped after a week of campaigning. But how many years did JE put in?
And as someone who lives around treatment weeks... I understand EE and JE and their kids having their time apart from external life.
But... where is the soi-disant fighter?

Wino,
Say what you will about Reagan, but he believed in a strong dollar. He did way too many things that I will never agree with, but he was a strong leader who was capable of crossing over to work with Tip O'neil. Maybe it was a case of 2 irish guys being able to hash things out over a pint but I'm willing to bet that if Reagan were president these past 8 years, the clusterfuck level would be much lower...
Hell, he presided over the largest tax cut ever...then realized that he needed to raise taxes later and he did. I know Republicans forget the tax hikes, but he was at least willing to do what was necessary to try and fix things, unlike W.

There is hunger.
There is appetite.
There is taste.
All have to be combined for a balanced dynamic, politically or socially or personally.
Hunger and hunger alone leads to pathologies on two legs.
We all know some of those, don't we?
Whether through history, personal experience...
Or postings on this blog.

A. The absolute anger that the faction within the blog have for people in the opposite camp, where emotion and childish ranting have replaced any real attempts at reasoned arguments.

no problem ..
n the interest of accuracy.
the Petreaus quote
"Iraqi leaders have failed to take advantage of a reduction in violence to make adequate progress toward resolving their political differences, Gen. David H. Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, said Thursday."
I report you decide if the surge has failed.
I still eagerly await McCain's response. It kind of blows a big hole in his war position.
Just for additional information
Tony Snow, discussing the purpose of the escalation, said it was to achieve the “important business of political reconciliation“:
Surge is not a term I’ve ever used. But the point is you’re trying to add strength to the forces in Iraq so that they’re going to be successful in taking out sectarian violence and also al Qaeda violence, so that you have the conditions under which people can pursue the important business of political reconciliation and economic development.

Republicans' "Obama spend-o-rama" amendment epitomized the day.
Sen. Wayne Allard, the Colorado Republican who is retiring after this year, offered the amendment, though as he explained on the floor to Sen. Charles E. Schumer, New York Democrat, "It wasn't my idea."
That came after Mr. Schumer, walking by his desk, was heard in the gallery telling Mr. Allard, "You're such a..." as his voice trailed off and became unintelligible to those in the galleries surrounding the Senate floor.
Mrs. Clinton, eager to make sure her opposition was recorded, voted twice — once from the desks and, in case the clerk didn't notice, she strode into the well of the Senate to be certain.
Near the end of the allotted time, Mr. Obama, who had been in an office just off the Senate floor conferring with a group of senators who back his presidential bid, strode to the floor with those supporters and all of them voted no.
The Illinois senator looked over the chamber and demanded to know who orchestrated the stunt. Spotting Mr. Allard, he yelled to him, "You working this hard?"
"Vote yes," Mr. Allard shot back — though even he didn't vote for the amendment himself, drawing a rebuke from Sen. Barbara Boxer, California Democrat: "Did you vote against your own amendment?"

Hilarious. (or maybe scary)....a few years back my daughter and I were at a Walgreens and followed a couple of women out the door who were....well, seriously inbred would be a kind description of the two. So as it turned out, they'd parked beside me. Their car quite literally was duct taped together, and had at least four Bush/Cheney and W stickers. Lock & Load NRA type stuff, etc.
I couldn't stop myself. As we were getting into our cars, I asked, "How's that Bush vote working out for ya?"
They didn't get it anyway, and my daughter wouldn't go shopping with me for a week.

"Because as far as I can see Obama's the whitest black man around."
Patsi,
You mistake me being sad, with me being shocked. Pogo would say perplexed and that would probably be more correct , but remember I’m just average. :-)
It’s this whole identity politics road we’re traveling as a party
So are we back to the, is he black enough question again?
I believe the latest flurry of news flashes will certainly cure that, albeit, superficially.
I’m not black and you’re right I haven’t hung and I don’t hang with many black people, but I’m not dis-qualified from making a comment about it. I know what a token is and I understand the meaning of Uncle Tom. I don’t picture Barack in either of those roles.
“It means he has made an effort to downplay his race”
As I see it Obama is striving to become POTUS, which requires of him, among many things, the need to present himself as acceptable to all groups. He seems to have had the skills from early on to do a good job of it. As for his blackness, in the beginning he wasn’t Black enough and lately it would appear he’s become too black. I’m not sure what he’s to do now but be himself. Probably too late! That’s too bad in my book. I think I’m beginning to understand the audacity of hope better.
I’m for electing the best person for the job at this juncture in our history. Period . I hopped on the BO horse early, so it wasn’t a choice of lesser evils for me. I won’t bore you with all my rationale. Maybe it’s: “Just because”.
I’m sorry if that’s good enough.

Imagine if Wright Were Hillary’s Pastor …
"Imagine for a moment Hillary had for two decades embraced a minister and a church that preached racism or hatred for America...
Hillary Clinton not only would not be running for president, she wouldn’t be in the Senate, she probably would not be employable in public life anywhere. The question is after how many such speeches was Mr. Obama’s response to draw the man closer, to elevate him ?
Do you think CNN’s Anderson Cooper, as he did last night about Obama’s pastor, would have asked, “I mean, does it matter?”
Or that Gloria Borger would have replied, “I think, honestly, it depends on how much the Clinton [Obama] campaign decides to make of this..."?
The media are not reporting, clearly, that the Obamas give Wright’s church more than they give to any other charitable group.
The media are ignoring the now-obvious (to anyone with common sense) ties between Michelle’s negative statements about America and the views held by her pastor, who she’s listened to for decades.
She won’t even commit to supporting the Democratic nominee if it’s not her Barack? Astonishing. IMAGINE IF BILL OR CHELSEA CLINTON HAD SAID THIS.]

afternoon all,
We are in a 10 minute break in a very boring deposition. I feel like I drove 2 hours to sit and watch mud slowly try to ooze uphill.
Anyway, I'm perplexed (lol, Rez) about why we are asking questions about the degree of Obama's blackness - as if there is some standard against which to measure such stuff. He's black for the purposes of this election although he's only genetically half black best we can tell. He may not be running as a black candidate, but he looks black, goes to a church with a zealot black separatist minister, and in many of the stump speeches he's given, he has sounded as much like the black tent evangelists I heard in my college days as they did, even IMHO adopting similar speech patterns and inflection. But folks, it don't matter. I want to know if he's smart enough to understand the issues he'll confront if elected, and wise enough to exercise the judgment I want to see exercised by our CEO, and progressive enough to push a legislative agenda that allows the US economy to thrive while the poor and middle class are allowed to benefit along with the fat cats, and I want to know that he'll get us out of that f*cking debacle in Iraq. Lilly white or black as the ace of spades - I couldn't care less.
Fact is, none of that makes any difference, at least not to me. I do think he needs to clarify his position about the separatist positions of his pastor - although I don't necessarily think he needs to "repudiate" the pastor, although I would feel much more comfortable about his judgment if he distanced himself from those views, and he may have done so - I haven't heard that, but if he has, bully for him.
I agree with Rez's last paragraph in his 1:19 post, only I'm on the other horse, and as Rez says "just because". But I'd like to see both sides discuss the issues - I think they have gotten lost in the press' rush to seize on sexy one liners and play gotcha with the candidates.
Posted by: pogo | March 14, 2008 1:55 PM
Rez....damn near every black I've known -- especially my son's friends -- use a form of this phrase in describing certain people, "He's the whitest black guy I've ever known."
I even heard one of my son's black coaches describe another black coach that way. It's not particularly unusual to hear it.
It's very different from Uncle Tomism, which is subservient. It's usually about successful blacks who identify more with whites.

Patsi,
I know exactly where you're coming from with that. We have little nicks in our community..Apple comes to mind. We don't have very good leadership either. Sometimes I think it's because we're overcritical and downright dumb, jealous, envious etc..i'm NOT saying that's your sentiments. I'll just blame it on the long primary cycle and general frustration with our party.

Today's Happy Thoughts are brought to us by the Good, Good People At Sanity Fair!
(And remember, kids -- the DSM-IV is NOT the Book of Looooove.)
The DSM-IV Diagnostic Criteria for Narcissistic Personality Disorder are:
A pervasive pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, lack of empathy, as indicated by at least five of the following:
1. a grandiose sense of self-importance
2. is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love
3. believes that he or she is "special" and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions)
4. requires excessive admiration
5. has a sense of entitlement, i.e., unreasonable expectations of especially favourable treatment or automatic compliance with his or her expectations
6. is interpersonally exploitative, i.e., takes advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends
7. lacks empathy and is unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others
8. is often envious of others or believes that others are envious of him or her

Oh, well.
A friend of mine is performing in Europe with one of opera's great narcissists -- male -- who is engaged to an even more successful narcissist -- who is pregnant with his child (good luck to all).
And their battle for narcissistic supply and damage to others is funnier than either them could be onstage.
But man -- have they both destroyed people.
And they do not care.
In fact... they take unconcealed pride in the collateral damage of their hunger for endless narcissistic supply.
So the friend made a most telling remark about the male of the pair...
"From the number of lives he carelessly damages and destroys..
"He might as well be selling smack, crack and crystal meth."

I guess the flat inflation report from the government today wasn't enough to ally traders' fears about the economy - the Dow is now down 290 pts today (2.39%) wiping out the "historic" gains of yesterday. It could rise some when the late session trading programs kick in, but this tells me that the market ain't buying the government's assessment of the numbers any more.

He ran unopposed for the city council in the November 2003 general election.[5] Ravenstahl assumed his seat on council in January 2004, and in December 2005, was elected City Council President, a role he held until he became mayor. Ravenstahl, per provisions in the city's charter, ascended from the office of City Council President to Mayor on September 1, 2006 following the death of Mayor Bob O'Connor.

For over a decade I was friends with a psychiatrist who, decades -- and I mean DECADES -- before had been the first to publish studies that there was no such thing as any single, freestanding addiction.
His first study involved sex and drugs -- no rock and roll -- and alcohol.
It also drew on parental abandonment -- except it departed from the then usual "severed cord" theory that the mother is responsible for narcissism in infancy to include either or both parents in the formula --
And that abandonment -- emotional or physical -- can occur in one stroke or in some serial progression.
Either way the future narcissist is brought to feel they are totally unloved and unloveable and the awful dance begins.
One of the things Larry studied later was both the distinctions between borderline personalities and narcissists... and how drawn these can be to one another in addictive ways.
He emphasized that the borderline personality -- which he felt, rightly or wrongly, was a predominantly female trait -- pursued abandonment from the narcissist -- same deal with that being a predominantly male trait.
Again, that was decades ago. And while a lot of it holds, there is now a great deal more understanding of the near identical status of borderline and narcissistic states.
The distinction is in how they are enacted and where the need for supply feels it must be directed.
The other thing the DSM-IV adds is that narcissism is a form of psychopathology. A few things are, of course; but this is the one held to be the jumping off point for fully psychotic emotions, thoughts and behaviors.
The addictive process doesn't help hinder that.
If only two wrongs did make a right, this would be a useful place for that to occur.

9/11:
That is some interesting stuff. But I prefer philosophy to psychiatry.
I think psychiatrists are good at pointing out people's issues - and philosopers are good at letting you know we all have issues.
I think we should all work on our problems - but we shouldn't obsess and worry so much about them.

Conan's take on Spitzer:
He is going to practice law. When asked why he wants to be a lawyer - Spitzer said he like businesses where you charge by the hour and screw your clients.
Hah! (btw, we don't screw our clients - we try to screw the clients of our adversaries)

That's excellent, Warren.
I'm waiting to hear about a project which would let me write about Kierkegaard.
Someone has the rights to the recent Hans Andersen bio (which is first rate). And we've been emailing casually about how to adapt it.
My suggestion has been to make Kierkegaard at least a bit more than a supporting character in it -- given Andersen's brutally jealous obsession with destroying SK's reputation and his life.
I don't know if she and her partner will even want to look in that direction. And while I love reading Andersen's fairy tales (not his plays -- not at all), Kierkegaard's work is so essential that I'd love any chance to show at least some of him to the modern world.

Patsi, what you write sounds way over my head.
I used to write, too. It was tradecraft sort of stuff. I was relatively new at one place and this colonel comes marching up to my desk holding a paper I had just written in one hand and waving a book in the other.
Ohlfahrt, he says, "This is _the_ book we use here, and what you wrote doesn't conform to it. Change it!!"
"Colonel," I said, "Things are different since I wrote that book and this is the way it is now."
He gave me a blank stare, looked closely at the book, and shuffled away.
He never realized NCOs could do definitive work.

Can we stop with the whole "I have black friends" game please???
1. Any person of color that speaks in complete, grammatically correct sentences will be considered white. Michael Irvin, the HOF receiver of the Dallas Cowboys has a radio show in DFW now. He says that when he goes home to visit the family in Florida, they ask him why he sounds so white now and if he sold out.
2. I grew up in the suburbs. There were less than a dozen black kids total, in all the schools I attended until college. That's right, as a black Haitian person, I had no black friends because there were none around me to be had.
3. When I went to URI, the black kids you would label AA would sneer at me because I was a suburban prep type kid. I was into classic rock and metal. They thought it abysmal that my white friends new more about rap than I did.
4. To quote Chris Rock, when I am using an ATM machine late at night, I'm looking around, not for the media, but for #@$@# because they are more likely to rob my ass in the area I live.
It's been stated time and again that we need to stop looking at this from a black/brown/white issue and need to look at it from a green/greener issue.

Dear Craig, Renee, Blonde Wino:
Thank you for your kind words and let me add my condolences as well. My daughter and I have five Yorkshire Terriers and what joy they bring to our lives Sparkey is the Patriarch lol or maby Jade just allows him to be *wink* they are as mischevious as they are adorable. Trust me its like canine romper room at my household, the are llike five mini steel grey & tan mini tornadoes, and Sparkey I honstly believe he runs on some sort of hyped rocket fuel or at least when he eats his food it somehow converts to rocket fuel. lol [ i'm sure NASA's curiosity is piqued now]
Sparkey is so people friendly, he just loves people but he contrasts that by being totally anti-social with other dogs he truly lives up to his alpha male status. When I walk him he will bark and intimidate much larger dogs, it totally amazes me. And I am stating the truth when I say he loves and on some level understands what he sees on television, his favorites are NFL Football, anything with animals as he will run to the tv and bark and paw at it as if he is somehow participating in the process. I can tell so many beautiful stories about him.
As for Reagan his political ideology was rather simplistic in the context that his supply side mentality was that people exist for the government rather than vice versa.
Reagan wanted the federal goverment to provide nothing more than policing and a military force, anything else was to be provided by big business in the free market sector. By that I mean that big business would decide your old age pension, big business would make enviormental decisions, big business would decide what we are paid etc .
To me this is contrary to what our Founding Fathers fought and died for. Either Reagan misinterpreted the Constitution or chose to defy it.
John Locke wrote "Life, liberty, and private property" which was changed by Thomas Jefferson to "Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," later came "promote the general welfare" and that last phrase is key, inasmuch as to my way of thinking it means goverment has a responsibility to the peoples it governs.
Extremist neocons try brainwash America into smaller government by [don't laugh] incompitent people to run government agencies, this is especially the case with president Bush with Michael DeWayne Brown [a.k.a. Brownie] Brown was the Judges and Stewards Commissioner for the International Arabian Horse Association and this qualified him to head FEMA.
Bush knew exactly what he was doing appoint an incompetent Person to head FEMA ruin the program and say see goverment cannot run it lets priviaize it and allow big business to run it so the CEO's can rape and plunder the program for their own greed.
I can go on and on about Reagan and his policies but I think I made my point.
I have so much to sound off about but I will save it for a later date as for now MSNBC is frustrating me sweet Norah has Karen Tumulty and yes MSNBC found yet another dart to throw at Hillary today this time castigating her because they claim she exaggerated her involvement in the Ireland Peace Negotiations... poor Hillary cannot get no respect, please say she has not become the female "Rodeny Dangerfield" of the Democratic Party grrrrrrrrrrr.
Later tonight I will have to torture myself and watch the Larry Kudlow interview with George Bush the Junior, some one please pass me Billy Crystal's Maalox I think I'll need it before watching that interview, How ironic Bear Stearns causing the dow to drop, wasn't that Kudlow's former employer? *sighs*
Sincerely,
Heather

BHO's man of God.
And you thought you had problems with Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell, they were a walk in the park compared to this guy.
When will the talking heads start asking BHO the tough questions about his minister, about Tony Rezko, about William Ayres? They won't because as soon as they do, BHO's camp will immediately toss out the race card. Remember it isn't a race issue until someone challenges BHO, and it isn't about race unless they want to inform everyone this is a historic election because a Afro-American may be elected POTUS. Then it is OK to bring race into the conversation because then it is seen as favorable.

He needs to hold a major press conference, thats the proper way to repudiate Reverend Wright's statements.
Senator Obama is trying to be clever submitting the repudiation on the Huggington Post, let's see just how many mainstream African Americans visit the Huffington Post?
Not Many! A very clever way to avoid alienating his African American base. Is this what we are to expect from a Barck Obama Presidency?

Silver lining time re the Rev. Wright sermons issue: blogger Al Giaroano thinks this might not hurt Obama as much as you would think because
" Given that some public opinion polls say that as much as 13 percent of the electorate still thinks Barack Obama is a Muslim, the more focus on his Christian pastor the more that smear gets permanently erased."

Racism and the Race Card
"… Mrs Clinton’s camp claims that, for all Mr Obama’s post-racial appeal, he has deliberately stoked controversy before primaries in states such as South Carolina with large black populations. For instance, having previously accepted Mrs Clinton’s assurance that she had nothing to do with the distribution of a picture showing him wearing a turban and tribal outfit, Mr Obama used a speech in Mississippi this week to accuse the Clinton campaign of leaking the photograph “to make people afraid”."

“from the pulpit this guy called Natalie Holloway a "slut"?”
She was a slut. Just think if she were a black girl acting as she did. What would you call her then? I’m sick of her mother trying to act like this little bad girl is better than other young girls. She did a stupid thing and unfortunately suffered the consequences.
----------------------------
“People seem to be jumping off the BHO bandwagon, like rats off a sinking ship...“
Not me! It’s the only way to get the scumbags like the Clintons out of Washington forever and politics for good. They would be nothing but the same old dirty crap, but then that’s why she has Marc Sleazebag Penn running her campaign.. If she gets “appointed” president (as was Bush), it will be the same as McCain, so why try to make a difference. They’ve both voted for almost identical stances. Oh, but there is one difference; she’s in this to get even with the Monica’s of the world when, in fact, it is BJ Clinton that did her in.
----------------------------
Craig, out of the entire article about Rev. Wright, here is what I believe is most relevant:
"What I value most about Pastor Wright is not his day-to-day political advice," Obama said. "He's much more of a sounding board for me to make sure that I am speaking as truthfully about what I believe as possible and that I'm not losing myself in some of the hype and hoopla and stress that's involved in national politics."
Even though I’m an old white broad, I’m assuming that not many of you (especially Heather – btw, learn the difference between are and our) have been in black churches. I love their gospel singing and “upbeat” sermons even though I’m a Congregationist, in spite of what Wendy, KGC, and others think.
----------------------------
Too many damned Republicans on here acting like they are Democrats. Why don’t you do as KGC does…spend time watching FAUX. Real News…or is it Reel News? I need to get a punching bag after reading most of this sh*t.

Besides which, BHO (per Talking Points Memo) knows he's got an uphill climb in Pennsylvania -- always did -- and aims to keep margin to 10 points.

Carol---the show you watched was Hardball. It was just stunning that black man Professor Orlando Patterson interpretted the 3 AM ad as dissing black people-- some nonsense inferring the danger of black men breaking into the homes of sleeping children.
When black men from the public were asked about the ad---they had the same conclusion as the Professor.
I agree with you-- black man in the Whitehouse could be just as devisive as a Clinton in the Whitehouse! I agree with you----it is alarming where this could go!

I know a lot of "fucked up" people (I am not including your sister in this category - just telling my own story). I think a more accurate way to put it is people that have "fucked up" in their lives including me, my family members, my good friends, etc. (even Bill Clinton!). We all know full-well you can always dust yourself off and get back on your feet - no matter what you go through.
I think the problem is that everyone is trying to be "sane" - which is a made up word and a goal that drives people out of their fucking minds!
Who are these "sane" people anyways? (scientologists perhaps - hah!). I mean there are quote-un-quote nice people - who don't partake in all the vices that most of us regular folks do (like Mormons and the GOP; )
And I know there are exceptions (heck I was out drinking with a jack Mormon from the GOP last night!)
Anyways - the point is that when you really get to know those "nice" people (or those so-called "sane" people) - you realize they are just as fucked emotionally as the rest of us!!

I'm sorry, common sense and logic dictate to me Reverend Wright is about hate.
To me church is a solemn service that has to do with theology and love, worship and devotion to God so that we can be better human beings.
I could get in a long theological debate but I will avoid that, suffice to say Jesus left the politics of His day to the Pharasees, Saducess, and the Romans. I suggest Reverend Wright leave the politics to politicians and better serve God and perhaps he could follow the example of the student [Sen. Obama] he mentored.

Obama says Rezko played a bigger fundraising role
"Indicted Chicago businessman Antoin "Tony" Rezko was a more significant fundraiser for presidential candidate Barack Obama's earlier political campaigns than previously known. Rezko raised as much as $250,000 for the first three offices Obama sought, the senator told the Tribune on Friday.
Obama also said for the first time that his private real estate transactions with Rezko involved repeated lapses of judgment. The mistake, Obama said, was not simply that Rezko was under grand jury investigation at the time of their 2005 and 2006 dealings. "The mistake was he had been a contributor and somebody involved in politics," he said."

She actually went after Mike Meyers in Soho when my ex first got her from the shelter (he was not too pleased). But she is getting more socialized. She would be a great case for Ceasar Milan.
She also enjoys watching the NFL, smells every fire hydrants she sees and sings whenever she hears that Vonage commerical.
I thought what you said about Reagan was pretty compelling. And I agree that the government is there to serve the peopl's interests (not a politician's own special interests).
But I do kinda get the smaller government concept. The Tao Te Ching actually has a section on government. The basic premise is that smaller government is better because you will have politicians that know the people and vice versa. Rather than some distant leader telling everyone what to do and think from the mountain tops.
And - nice try on the Obama should hold a press conference on J. Wright... That is exactly what his opponents want him to do.

I'm more than willing to give Sen Obama a pass on his minister simply because community activities often center around a church no matter who is doing the preaching, but what is good for the goose is good for the gander and there had better be a complete cease fire on what surrogate said what on either side of the contest.

I can't - it seems that the case for the Clintons is lost on many in the GOP (as well as some Indy's and Dems) - who don't like her as much as the Dems don't like Bush (of course for different reasons). Except the Clintons and the Bushes do have one thing in common - they are all bullies.

I must say, I'm a little envious. If I were slightly younger and not employed here, I think it would be a fantastic experience to be on the front lines of helping this young democracy succeed. It must be exciting for you … in some ways romantic, in some ways, you know, confronting danger. You're really making history, and thanks"

Clinton Supporters Hardening Against Obama
"The media, Obama and his supporters are underestimating the hardness now solidifying among many Clinton supporters who are saying they will never vote for Barack Obama. There have been grumblings since Obama made the statement that he could get Clinton voters, but she couldn't get his voters. But things have reached the tipping point.
So as things stand today, if Clinton is not the Democratic nominee, which is anything but certain as things stand today, there will indeed be a new breed of voter out there, according to the emails flooding in to me: McCain Democrats. As a former Reagan Democrat I know the signs.
Other Democrats, Clinton supporters, say they will simply sit out the election if Obama is the nominee. The war is a deal breaker for many when it comes to John McCain."

Posted by: Nancy | March 14, 2008 7:39 PM
I think the Clinton supporters would be all for Sen. Byrd since the are so worked up about "experience."
Doesn't Clinton realize if she wins the nomination on that message - "experience" and being "ready on day one" - she has made McCain's case for the nomination in the general election.
He is a war hero, a longtime Senator on all the important committees, and showed political courage (if not acumen) on his support for the surge. He also appeals to Independents - and HRC does not automatically win the hard-line anti-war vote - because Clinton voted for the Iraq War.
I hope we end this thing in PA.

Clinton Campaign tactic No. 3:
"Ridiculing people for supporting their candidate"
-Obama supporters are voting for him because they are naive, don't know the "real world" or simply because he is black. (I am sure a quick Lexis search could find plenty of support for that stmt).
don't talk to me about raising the level of discourse...
Btw, tactics No. 1 and 2 - are the politics of fear and distraction (with personal destruction rounding out the list).
Posted by: warren | March 14, 2008 7:46 PM

Jamie:
"Maybe she needs to add to the message: Experience, ready on day one, IQ above shoe size.

In what country?
Don't forget - Bush got re-elected... And McCain is no George W. Bush. He is sharp, has a fantastic record and bona fides on National Security that neither Dem can match.
This is still a war-time election - I mean there are 2 we know about. "Experience," "tested" and "ready on day one" does not work against McCain And Obama's message of CHANGE is the key to beating the Republicans. It links McCain to Bush - and presents Obama as the other option. We have seen that it is strong enough to withstand the politics of fear and it is what the majority of voters are looking for (e.g., record turn outs and $$ for Obama).
Do you think Clinton can stamp out that message and then take on McCain based on her "experience." That my dear is frankly naive....
(And the cease fire is with respect to the candidates - all bets are off amongst the supporters - just make sure to not piss someone off soooo bad they will vote for McCain - which should still give you some considerable leeway ; )

Don't say such things Jamie. I don't know much about the lady - but she seems to get off on the soap opera of politics rather than the issues. She seems like a columnist that focuses on the political gossip (i.e., the page six of politics).
"If the things said to me and about me in the past several days are an indication of Sen Obama's supporters, I don't want him or them anywhere near the White House."
They are not. Obama is too much of a gentleman to say many of the things his supporters say (and he rejects and denounces any statements from his supporters that are divisive).

My testimony was obviously worthless, because he spent a year in jail, while one of his songs climbed the charts. Luckily for him, as it turned out, June Bug was in the slammer at the same time and made sure "D" didn't get turned into somebody's bitch.

Now the Clinton campaign is just toughening up Obama for the general election. Good move. Better to get all this dirt out on the table before taking on McCain.

The whole problem here is.........that none of us individually have enough say to make change. We have one vote and when we do not agree we have NO power.
So rather then tearing each other apart, shouldn't we be looking to what we can pull together?
seriously , think about it

Did Bob Jones or Pat Robertson or Falwell hurt Bush in 2000 and 2004?
Did the radical left in the black community support the Democrat Party prior to 2008?
Did National Dem politicians prior to 2008 accept these guys active support?
Whats the big deal now?
Are we saying that HRC can win in November without the group supporting Obama?
I know the Clinton's strategy is one of win first then worry about reunification.
I am afraid that strategy will not work this time around.
This campaign was slated to be a coronation of Clinton.
After errors upon errors by her campaign staffers ,the point an accusing finger at the media.
Will this be her strategy in the fall if she ends up as the eventual nominee?

John R -- But the economy doesn't affect the corporate world that is deciding this thing. They will make it through just fine. And we'll be left saying, uh....wha' happened?
OH MY GOD -- I just heard Obama AGAIN saying he had "no idea" this stuff was being said. My GOD that's stupid. He's coming off as just a flat out liar now. Why would he say this? Of COURSE he knew what Rev Wright was saying. And it doesn't matter whether we agree that the anger Wright exhibits is justified. Obama has just made a fatal mistake.

Clinton gained the endorsement of 13 members of the Cong. Black Caucus(CBC)
Obama gained the endorsement 12 members and 4 members are uncommitted.
Clinton has recieved the endorsement of a host of black party functionaries at the state level.
Despite these endorsement the grass root is going against the establishment line and are voting for Obama.
How then could Obama be playing the race card?
Some of Obama's senior staffers worked for the Bill Clinton controlled DNC and for prominent politicians who have endorsed Clinton.
How could Obama convince these staffers to play the race card?

Just getting caught up in today's rants after a very long work day.
I've been interviewed by a Newsweek reporter three times since yesterday on the Clinton v. Obama cold war affecting people's relationships and friendships.
The Peter DeFazio letter cracks me up -- considering how negative he went against my former boss, Ron Wyden, during their primary to take over Packwood's seat in 1995. Ron finally had to call a halt to it -- which he was strongly advised NOT to do -- because it mattered more to him that he could look Oregonians in the face than hide in shame for running a dirty campaign. He said, "You can campaign in the rain, but you don't have to throw mud."
Maybe Peter has learned a thing or two since then. I guess he's a pretty good guy -- our office used to get together with his on Cannon "Beach" to drink coveted Henry Weinhart's on Friday evenings. The beach was actually a piece of the Cannon HOB roof outside the DeFazio office window. We'd set up lawn chairs and enjoy the early evening view of the Capital late afternoon -- until the Capital Police put the kibosh on our fun. Came in like gangbusters and made threatening comments thinking we were all staffers -- until Peter piped up that he was the MC. They were more polite after that, but they still made us stop sitting out on the roof. Hillbillys indeed.
Tylenol -- You'll be in my thoughts.

Patsi, u have no knowledge of black preaching and what goes on in the black community, u have watched 10 seconds of edited comments and made some conclusions. u also have no proof he heard the sermon. if u do please offer it.... if u wasnt so scared maybe u would visit the church with all those black folks and ask around. also, have u heard the sermon text in its entirety? he said we should be singing God damn america, do u know what proceeded that, it was the fact that america started and unjust war and was killing innocent women and children through the dropping of bombs, should not individuals that kill innocent people be damned to punishment and if so should not a nation that kill innocent people through illegal wars also be damned to punishment for crimes against humanity? thats why i say the essence of what he said was accurate, his tone wasnt. what he said about hilliary it is true, she dont have cabs pass her up, she has never been called the N word, and if u didnt know it we do live in a country that is control by rich white men...

a friend email this to me:
It has almost become de rigueur to make broad, sweeping, and often uninformed judgments after viewing short news segments. That kind of
information is often taken out of context and frequently used as an attempt to discredit the speaker. The politically savvy among us can see this discussion for what it is: an attempt to discredit by proxy. The
rest will claw at, and cling to, minor details while spinning an entirely new premise and or supposition.
I have heard entire sermons preached by Dr. Wight, not just FOX News clips. He speaks the truth that many know and think, but wont say out loud for fear of offending the power structure and those who misguidedly think they are part of the power structure. His sermons chastise everyone: the United States, Christians, the dominant culture and power
structure, blacks , word faith preachers, hip hop culture, politicians, those who wallow in self pity, and those who won't take responsibility for the part they play in their own oppression. I have heard similar
sermons with just as much vibrato from Catholic, Baptists, Episcopalian, A.M.E, and Church of God in Christ preachers. Chicago has many preachers who preach similar sermons. The priest at St. Sabina Catholic focuses on many of the same issues. He too critiques the United States, and the dominant culture and power structure. He also invited Louis Farakkan to speak during Sunday Mass. He also acts and speaks
prophetically which annoys the powers that be. He was attacked and arrested while protesting the high concentration of liquor stores in minority neighborhoods. If Obama attended St. Sabina, the anti Obama forces would be using that priest to discredit Obama. We need more of these prophets, not less. We have had enough of attending churches to
"get our praise on", while the neighborhoods around the churches are often filled with crime and decay. We need more preachers to critique us and the dominant social and political culture and keep our short
comings before our eyes.
Reread the biblical prophets. They did not shirk from critiquing Israel's political or religious institutions. They pointed out its lack of regard for the poor and disposed, widows, and orphans while spending
big for war. Their warnings to Israel certainly included much stronger words than God Damn.
Dr. Wright cries aloud, and spares not. He does not sugar coat the truth. It may be loud, uncomfortable, and stinging, but it still is needed. This energy would be better put to use if we eradicated the problems and social ills of our society instead of ignoring them while
burying our heads in the sand.

You were right Jamie it was a great opportunity that is now lost
When Bush Sr talked about a thousand points of light the Reverend Wright had 6000 points of light.
When bush jr talked about faithbased institutions working with the poor The good Reverend had been there for 20 years.
When John Edwards talked about the two Americas Reverend Wright was bringing the two together to worship and promote social justice.
Reverend Wright's church is a strong pillar in the Chicago community
truly a lost opportunity.
Obama started his compromising when he ignored the sexist attacks from his campaign.
Then he justified using the race card when his opponent had no history of such behavior.
Now he has denied a friend.
Mathew 26:34
"Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice"
A friend is more important than the presidency.

As a strong Hillary supporter, I find the whole emphasis with Rev. Wright disturbing.
I don't think you can hold Barack responsible for the words of his minister. I've often cringed at services, weddings, and funerals conducted by priests of my church and by ministers of other churches.
Religion is a very complicated thing.
I've also found the attacks on Gerry Ferraro on this site and in the main stream media to be ridiculous. She is a wonderful person with a great career or working for people. Her words were distorted by people who can't come close to her commitment to civil rights.
Posted by: Oregon Democrat | March 15, 2008 12:42 AM
John -- you and I are on the same page about this. The wingers are going to try to destroy both candidates. Now they think they've already tarred Hillary enough and are going after Obama. Sad but true -- we knew this sort of thing was coming.
The media helps out by "innocently" playing tapes over and over, whether they are Geraldine Farraro or Rev Wright or -- the "Harold, call me" commercials that sunk Harold Ford here in Tennessee.

Today’s thread was one of our best. A bit rancorous in places, but downright substantive in its own way, and thoroughly illuminating. But while the racial gotcha game plays out, I must end where I started – and you guessed it, FLORIDA. My home state gets a lot of grief, and I suppose that much of it is well deserved. As the nation's biggest swing state, things are bound to get a bit messy. Still, here’s what I know having spent my time today on Florida's political fate instead of processing preacher talk on YouTube: Florida Democrats are about to play their final card, and it is about money. All along this has not been fully appreciated. There is a strong chance that the party’s Florida contributors have the clout to bankrupt the Democratic National Committee, which is already almost broke. And that is exactly what they are prepared to do if the state does not get satisfaction. Demands for the return of millions raised by Florida contributors are in the works. It could be a foolish bluff, but that appears to be the next chapter of this story.

oregon, i do not believe ferraro is a racist, not at all, but a lot of black folks were offended. a poll showed that 70 percent whites felt her statements were not racist whereas 63 percent blacks did feel it was racist. it depends on who u are and ur life experience. a lot of black folks that have achieved success hear that quite too often..."u have succeed because of ur race or affirmative action" not because uve worked hard etc... so a lot of folks took offense. now having said that i dont believe ferraro is a racist i do think her words were from an era or generation that today is no longer acceptable such as with rev wright.

" 'I said, 'No, that's not why I supported Hillary Clinton,'" Paterson told Obama. "She and I are very good friends and I think she will be the best president.'"
"He laughed. He knows I'm very committed to Senator Clinton," said Paterson. "When I sign up to support a candidate, it's to the end.' "

There is a big difference in being offended and being justifiably offended.
Too many people of all races, groups, etc. go on automatic offense pilot.
When Gerry Ferraro was quoted, people had a responsible to ask: Who is this woman? What is her history. What is her commitment to civil rights over a 40 year period?

Gordo,
That kind of ignorance can not be countenanced. It certainly wouldn't help Sen Clinton get elected. Hatred is never a useful tactic. There is enough you can find wrong with Sen Obama as a candidate without lying and distorting.

"There is a strong chance that the party’s Florida contributors have the clout to bankrupt the Democratic National Committee, which is already almost broke"
Craig, It couldn't happen to a more deserving group. Considering that Sharpton is threatening a suit if they just seat the delegation and the vote by mail suggestion is dying a well deserved death, then the only way to go is a full up primary election in both FL and MI. Call a special election and get it over with.
If either Sen Obama or Clinton object to that plan then they really have no business being the nominee.

oregon, most people dont know ferraro, they are too young. in a society that judges every word out of ur mouth u must be careful what u say, to her what she said was okay, but to others it wasnt. if u are in the public arena the burden is on the communicator not the hearer to understand and appreciate all the dynamics and mine fields in public discourse

my prediction, regardless of what pelosi says, obama and hilliary will be on the same ticket. imo it will be obama at top and hilliary as vp, but obama will ask her to serve in that capacity and she will accept. u heard it first here :)

OD
That is what I was so outraged about yesterday. I couldn't believe that the media who had to know Ferraro's extensive history in politics could be playing for ratings what was basically a somewhat clumsy statement of a piece of the truth about Sen. Obama.
Today those same media people were saying, Oh yeah well sure .. or some variation of same while they go on a rampage about a minister who also tells a piece of a truth.
Tomorrow they will probably have something else you yammer on about for hours.

Well, John -- I honestly do relate to a lot of what you say. Race is still HUGE -- even bigger than I thought. But you also have to understand something that's happening among women -- women who know that their sisters have been persecuted throughout history and still are. And some of us are sick of hearing that our history doesn't mean a good god damn.
The first time I sat back and thought "HOLY CRAP!" was after working for civil rights, and then hearing Stokley Carmichael say, "The only place for women in the movement is prone."
Think that didn't piss a few of us off?
Think being black trumps being female? Only in this country.
Here's some comments from a recent op/ed in the Jackson MS Free Press:
"I saw Hillary Clinton on television losing her cool over Barack Obama’s criticism of her health-care plan. I don’t think that I will ever recover from the image of her looking a bit like a crazed televangelist, as she scolded, "Shame on you, Barack Obama!" I don’t know, maybe that scolding attitude is some kind of secret bonding process for women voters. Whatever its intent, I can tell you with confidence that it cost her the support of every male voter in the country who has ever encountered a scolding female teacher, wife, girlfriend, mother, sister, aunt or grandmother."
And then, John -- came the biggie:
"The first is whether, after decades of professing support of civil rights, Hillary will put her principles above her personal ambitions, and gracefully step aside to allow an African American to obtain the support of a united Democratic Party."
Sorry. But kiss this woman's butt.

John R.
They may have painted themselves into a corner where no other solution is possible. Too many segments of the party have been sliced and diced into opposing camps. Still think Hillary on the upper half of the ticket makes the most sense.

thats why they will both be on the ticket there is no way either of them can win without the other, it just wont happen. with hilliary and bill there the experience issue will go right out the window, and this situation with the rev will be short-lived.

Evening Posse...It's been a while because I got depressed after Kucinich didn't make his big comeback in the Hawaii primary...
The interesting part of the Democratic primary season starts tomorrow with the first county conventions held in caucus states. Given the tightness of the race between Clinton and Obama, the 300 or so unpledged caucus state delegates could either shift the lead to Clinton, or cement the lead for Obama.
This will be the first test of Obama's staying power in caucus states. As his caucus supporters consisted of a great many new caucus attendees, it will be very interesting to see if they are involved enough to give up their Saturday to support him.
Starting tomorrow, Iowa's 99 county conventions will be held. Though no pledged delegates will be elected, the caucuses held at the county conventions will shape the candidate balance at the Congressional District and State conventions when the pledged convention delegates will be elected.
The Clinton and Obama campaigns have taken different strategies for these caucuses. The Clinton campaign is counting on their strength in loyal party activitists who have traditionally attended these caucuses. They have targeted their own delegates to make sure they continue to support Clinton at these conventions.
On the other hand, the Obama campaign has not only been reconnecting with their elected precinct delegates. The biggest question out there is whether or not Obama delegates will show up. Many of these delegates have not traditionally been involved in the party.
The Obama campaign has also heavily courted Edwards delegates. The Edwards delegates are also involved party activtists and will show up to the conventions. However, they are a very loyal group, and will in all likelihood either caucus for Edwards (as his Iowa campaign chair has publically requested), or caucus "uncommitted."
Sooooo...The Clinton and Edwards delegates will probably show up. The big questions are 1) whether the Obama delegates will attend, and 2) how many Edwards supporters will Obama be able to peel off.
I talked to Zoey earlier this evening. She is both a county delegate and a member of the credentials committee. They had early registration this evening, and had close to 400 people show up. They are expecting over 1,200 people attend tomorrow, which will probably be record attendance.
Hopefully Zoey will post a full report of the convention.

I wish you were correct. I've seen "hate" work- many people are easily manipulated. FNC is going at the Rev story in a big way. Better now than later. I've been warning about this stuff -there is much more on the way. That's just the way it is in politics

Dear Craig, All,
I just wish to say good night to all and say the following:
I could act foolish like Reverend Wright and say something hateful and say be careful when you take God's holy name in vain and ask him to hold America in damnation He just may hear you and react in a way you do not expect, the good people in Atlanta did not expect the horiffic storm they suffered though this evening. Be careful what you wish for Reverend Wright.
Instead, I will say something more humane and compassionate, my heart and prayers go out to the people in Atlanta of every race creed and color and any assistance I can give them I will...
Good Night everyone and May God Bless the USA each and everyone of us even you Reverend Wright
Sincereley,
Heather

Evening night owls.
Here's NYTimes story, echoing Craig's 12:54 a.m. comment on major Florida Hillary supporters threatening to withhold funds/requesting return of funds:
" ...Reflecting how tense the situation has become, influential fund-raisers for Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton have stepped up their behind-the-scenes pressure on national party leaders to resolve the matter, with some even threatening to withhold their donations to the Democratic National Committee unless it seats the delegates from the two states or holds new primaries there.
....
Pushing to seat the Florida delegates, at least one top Clinton fund-raiser, Paul Cejas, a Miami businessman who has given the Democratic National Committee $63,500 since 2003, has demanded Democratic officials return his 2007 contribution of $28,500, which they have agreed to do.
“If you’re not going to count my vote, I’m not going to give you my money,” said Mr. Cejas, who was the United States ambassador to Belgium from 1998 to 2001.
Christopher Korge, a Florida real estate developer who is another top fund-raiser for Mrs. Clinton, held an event last year in his home that brought in about $140,000 for the national party, which was set aside in a special account for the general election battle in Florida. But he told committee officials this week that if Florida’s delegate conundrum was not settled satisfactorily he would be asking for the money back.
“If we do not resolve this issue,” Mr. Korge said, “I think it’s safe to say there will be a request for a return of $140,000.”
The anger from Clinton fund-raisers seems to emanate mostly from Florida, where the impasse appears farthest from resolution. Democratic Party officials in Michigan on Friday proposed a new primary election on June 3 to make up for the January election.

[At least on their overnight home page, NYTimes gave this story more play than Obama's denouncing his pastor's statements as "inflammatory."]

"I know you ordered me to never mention friends, but I did ask a dyke friend about that very thing. (That's HER self-descriptive term and she's proud of being called one....")

I remember my friend Jacquie, proud lesbian, bus driver, union organizer. On her first day at work she had to drive a bus up to the Governor's mansion in Olympia when Dixy Ray Lee was Governor... Somehow Jacquie got stuck in the flower bed and Dixie's "friend" came running out of the mansion screaming at her to get that thing out of the flower bed. Panicking Jacquie yelled back "I'm trying". What a way to start your job!
Anyway, Jacquie used to have this cool t-shirt:
"NO DUTCH BOY IS GONNA PUT A FINGER IN THIS DYKE"...
Just thought I'd share...

Every man deserves that chance to straighten out run away talk and whispers.
On My Faith and My Church
The pastor of my church, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who recently preached his last sermon and is in the process of retiring, has touched off a firestorm over the last few days. He's drawn attention as the result of some inflammatory and appalling remarks he made about our country, our politics, and my political opponents.
Let me say at the outset that I vehemently disagree and strongly condemn the statements that have been the subject of this controversy. I categorically denounce any statement that disparages our great country or serves to divide us from our allies. I also believe that words that degrade individuals have no place in our public dialogue, whether it's on the campaign stump or in the pulpit. In sum, I reject outright the statements by Rev. Wright that are at issue.

From the Savage Politics story:
"and with Hillary Clinton’s Methodist church’s decision to accept gays into their marriage ceremonies."
and I'm not sure how the mainstream media can tag this as a negative in the same way some of the things Wright or for that matter Hagee are negative...In fact Hillary should be praised for belonging to such an inclusive church.
I personally haven't seen any of the channels saying anything about Hillary and the methodist church - has anyone else?
