  9. More evidence of the irrelevance of Lou Dobbs

The vast majority of the public isn't interested in what Lou Dobbs, Fox News, the federal government, and Rahm Emanuel are selling. The issue is a loser for the Right, no matter who much fury they generate. Even among African Americans, who are supposedly "anti-immigrant" because of economic concerns, we find huge support for citizenship while, rightly, less support for "temporary worker" status that would depress wages at the low end of the socio-economic ladder.

Even among Republicans, only 32 percent favor deportation -- a stunning rejection in Connecticut of the politics of hatred and scapegoating.

  14. KGC: Glad to see immigration issues sinking in importance. The whole thing was drummed up by Rove and the boys to take the attention off Iraq.

It was very weird, one morning prior to the '06 Congressional election I woke up and all the MSM was talking about was immigration issues and how it was the number one concern of Americans. WTF?! Guess Karl thought this one was gonna stick like gay marriage and get the xenophobic republican base out to the polls.

The MSM did its job and made it one of the issues all the candidates were talking about. It was certainly evident at the start of the presidential primaries. Good to see that we are talking about the economy and the war now.

I don't know, immigration sneaking into the media coverage like it did was always quite strange to me.

I don't have much to say. Guess I am tired of it all. I can tell you one thing. Hillary has more stamina then I do, and I have a lot for 68. She has got to be the strongest lady in the US. How she handles the pundits and the negativity and the travel and the talking amazes me.

  22. Maxtrue:

"What else do we have, his advisors, mentors and record?"

When you list your edited list of Obama's Foreign Policy advisors - you usually say "Powers." Do you mean Samantha Power?

Cause if you do - you can go get a transcript of the last time she was on Charlie Rose (I think it was Feb.).

She spoke as intelligently on Iraq as anyone who I have heard speak about the issue in depth (and I try to listen to a lot).

And I was not impressed because she laid out a magical plan to peace-ville. I was impressed because she outlined the complexity of the situation. With an in-depth knowledge of the people, the leaders, the tension and the struggles.

(And for those of you who don't know - Power was the one who had to resign for saying what everyone in America was thinking at the time (and I would include some Clintonites in "everyone") because I don't think there is a huge difference between a "monster" and a "fighter". Especially if this so-called "fighter" is busy trying to kick your friend's ass!)

SNL said the "Bitch is back" and they were cheered.

    Power said:

"She is a monster, too - that is off the record - she is stooping to anything," Ms Power said, hastily trying to withdraw her remark."

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/03/06/samantha-power-resigns-ov_n_90339.html

NOW WHICH REMARK SOUNDS MORE SEXIST TO YOU??

(replace "monster" with "Clinton" in the Power's statement and no one would bat an eyelash ; )

  24. Warren...I wasn't hugely outraged at what Power said either, in the context of a tough campaign. Still, you are really stretching reason at this point.

Monster = Fighter? I'll challenge you to find that as a synonym in any dictionary on Earth.

And as far as your second point -- about replacing "monster" with "Clinton" and no one batting an eye..That's so ludicrous it's not even worth addressing.

    This is just more spindrool.

  25. Barack Obama went to New York Thursday and blamed lobbyists, greedy businessmen and complacent Washington politicians for creating “an ethic of greed” that led to today’s foreclosure crisis.

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0308/9238.html

(can't argue too much with Barack on that point.)

Posted by: warren Author Profile Page | March 27, 2008 7:15 PM

  26. Warren...one thing you quite frequently is trying to create "equivalence" between sources of statements that have no bearing on one another to prove your far-fetched points or to create these artificial "gotchas".

Having SNL parody writers say something is different than having a candidate or a chief advisor say something similar. It's the difference between, well laughter and outrage. It seems so basic.

I honestly can't figure Klein out. He always seem to have some sort of agenda that has nothing to do with honest reporting, but he's so all over the map it's hard to figure out what his agenda is.

Posted by: LardassLiberal Author Profile Page | March 27, 2008 7:35 PM

  37. LL:

"It's the difference between, well laughter and outrage. It seems so basic."

    Maybe to you.

But what "laughter" and "outrage" have in common is that they are both reactions to the truth.

(The difference is what side of that truth you are on...)

For example, we won a case last month. And when the judge read the decision - we "laughed" (of course we had to keep it inside till we got to the bar) and the other side felt "outrage."

(Thems the breaks kid ; )

When BHO speaks like that , I can hear Rev Wright, can't you? Always the blaming of others... pointing the finger.

The foreclosure crisis can not be blamed on just one group. Many people profited, starting with the buyers, through the Realtors, appraisers, underwriters, bankers, title companies & so on.

    Posted by: unlikely_burrito Author Profile Page | March 27, 2008 7:39 PM

  40. Warren...

I can't believe I'm about to engage you on one of your silly syllogisms, but here goes anyway:

    So..

If Laughter = Outrage = Reaction to Truth

    Then...

If someone expresses "outrage" because Barack Obama is accused of being a militant Muslim, that must mean the accusation is true?

You make no sense. Stop while your ahead...

Posted by: LardassLiberal Author Profile Page | March 27, 2008 7:40 PM

  41. Jack...I'll plead guilty to slinging my share of junk into print over the years. You got me there.
But read the link Corey posted if you haven't already...it's funny. It's like even Klein is admitting he's lost his mind, the way he couches everything.

  42. It really WOULD be fascinating, on the other hand, if some reporter could find out exactly what role as a powerbroker might be in store for Al Gore at either a mini-convention of superdelegates or the big show in Denver. Now THAT would be a story!

  48. LL:

"If someone expresses "outrage" because Barack Obama is accused of being a militant Muslim, that must mean the accusation is true?"

No dumbass - someone would "laugh" at that suggestion.

(And why does your example have to reflect the worst GOP talking point - aren't you supposed to be a "liberal"?).

Anyways - the point is that there is a simple truth:

    Obama is winning.

Based on that same truth - I express "laughter" and you express "outrage".

The Clinton Campaign needs to work on a plan to start winning - not just spinning the definition of "victory".

And its focus is the historic nature of what has happened just in the past week on Wall Street, at the Fed, and in the Treasury Department. Basically having to go back to 1929 to find parallels. I had read Kliens article and I agree with you. Thats why to me it just looked like an attempt to meet the deadline. But then again Klien is turning in a lot of crap these days. Time to promote him.

On Al Gore being a powerbroker. I don't think he has much power to broker. Pelosie is one, she can almost make you or break you in her position, but she seems a bit weak at the moment. Almost as powerful as the speaker(and if you want something in your district, more) ways and means committee chair, Charles Rangel So the house looks equally divided in its power posts
In the senate, the one that can hurt you back home where it counts, Harry Ried but like Pelosie, he is a bit weak. The committee chairman with the most power is Byrd in Appropriations Committee. He is a senile old fart so...

    Wells Cleared of Dope Charge

"America’s sweetheart, Dawn Wells (age 69), who starred as the cute and pixy Mary Ann for years on the television sitcom “Gilligan’s Island” has been cleared of dope charges stemming from a booking done by an Idaho police officer last fall.

Wells was cleared of the drug possession charges after the real owner of the evidence came forward in court and fessed up that it was his stash container in the car. Wells’ car was in the shop being worked on and this particular car was a loaner. Her record has been cleared. Now that is a powerful vibe Mary Ann still holds over the masses, when a guy is willing to be honest and upfront and face charges to keep America’s sweetheart’s name and reputation clean and spotless."

I find his repeated claims to be unbiased without foundation, he takes shots at Senator Obama every chance he gets, any "compliment" of Obama he has made is delivered in the most back handed of manner. His trailmix entry of "Obama vs. Florida and Michigan" was pretty much the last straw for me and I now understand why the only TV outlet he now appears on is that of the king of racial jokes Don Imus, water seeks it own level. Over and out!

  125. LL , Jamie

I've been hanging out with too many Mexicans so my definition of a taco is any thing wrapped up in a tortilla.
So my tacos are usually quick simple fare
    .
The wife came back from California telling me about fish tacos and I tried a kansas city version. They were tasty but had some kind of mayo based sauce on them.

I did my own version, and try to keep it quick and simple.
I put two Battered frozen fish filets in the toaster oven

While they are cooking I made some Guacamole
    1 ripe avacado
clove of garlic, size of my little finger , my wifes index finger
a couple of thin onion slices finely minced
tablespoon lime juice--a little less or a little more depending on how limey I want it. Same for the garlic and onion
    pinch of salt

    shredded some cabbage
    diced up a poblano chili
Got out some quality store bought Pico de Gallo
Put a stack of tortillas on a plate and covered them.
Set the microwave on one min and steamed them.

I then set it all out on the Counter, popped the tops off a couple of Coronas.
While the wife was making her tacos I kissed her on the neck and told her how much I've missed her the last couple of days.
So we had a relaxing supper, she is exhausted and is sound asleep.

I'm here on the computer thinking recipe? recipe? we don't need no stinkin" recipe.

  128. Rev. Wright's Italian Job (Hold the Garlic)

"The irrepressible Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. is at it again, this time taking aim at Italians -- expounding a two millenium grudge against the sons and daughters of Rome -- and their (allegedly) breath-altering prediliction for scampi and pesto.

From the Wright-written eulogy for scholar Asa Hilliard in the Dec. 2007 edition of the Trumpet magazine: "(Jesus') enemies had their opinion about Him... The Italians for the most part looked down their garlic noses at the Galileans."

    LOL....

Yesterday I saw two of CCN ´s pundit s say: "If she wins PA with less than 10 poinst he is the winner of that state".
Well, I was again laughing my ass off. I mean. How can someone with a brain explain that. If you win you win. GWBush won, even if it were 500+ votes.
These pundits will do everything to make Hillary end this. The problem is, that the more they write her off, the more she picks up steam. Actualy they are doing her a a favour...

A friend of mine in Oregon is taping all CNN election night cooverages. He is going to release them after the primary in a documentary form. I cant wait. He wants to question the credibility of CNN and make a statement about the claim of the Wolfster having the best political team on TV...
