It is a term of endearment for me. How are you?

Thanks I use it that way also. I been fine got my trick fixed finally and am planning on attending the Texas State Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Alpine, TX at the end of the month. The truck would not have made the trip if I had not had the transmission worked on. Should be an uneventful trip in each direction. (hoping so anyway) It is a good weekend show with lots of free stuff to do and only the Friday and Sat nite shows in the main auditorium have an admission charge. There will be a cowboy dance with Jody Nix and his west Texas cowboy band and it has a charge also on Saturday night. enough about me how are you doing?

  9. Maxtrue:

I also enjoy your long posts. You have the freedom to post them and I have the freedom to read them, skim them, or ignore them.

But I would like to expose the hypocrisy on the board, especially in light of the constant chatter about the biased media.

I have seen many posters slapping you on the back as the choir does a preacher. I note that when i first arrived, I too had some long posts - but they were pro-Obama. There was an outcry. People told me I was breaking the rules, complained about "bandwith" issues and tried to take me to the woodshed.

Granted - two of these posts had been posted elsewhere - but I doubt many here had read them and some would not even click on the link if the heard they were pro-Obama.

You shouldn't bend the rules when it supports your candidate and then be a stickler for the rules when it supports your candidate. You look like a Clinton.

(sorry - I had to take at least one shot!).

  10. I was thinking last night about why that woman nearly fainted at the Obama rally yesterday. You see , Obama is the one candidate who brings people closer together. When you bring a lot of people closer together , it gets very warm. I think that's probably what happened to that woman. People were brought closer together , it got very warm there and she almost fainted.

  11. Maxtrue...add another slap on your back from me (not one in the face).

I do enjoy your posts and I do want to get back to Craigs post...5 blunders of the media.

PS Craig...since I am new, I didn't know you quit cigs..is that how you broke your leg? Quitting is tough.

blonde -- cold turkey for six weeks now, but wow i have had massive cravings last couple of days. nice thing is that i can't walk to the 7-Eleven. i quit cigs on the day i had ankle surgery, Dec. 28 and it turned out that a week on percocet was a fine time to quit.

  14. On the dream ticket:

You people need to stop papering over the flaws in Clinton's electability with the notion that there will be a Clinton-Obama ticket.

I have seen this before. Early in the primary season - Hillary was propped up by the notion that we could get Bill Clinton back in the White House. It is somewhat surprising to see how often Clinton supporters look to a man as a reason to support her. At first glance, it seems wildy misogynistic. And I could claim I am shocked by this coming from so many self-proclaimed feminists.

But looking deeper - that is not the reason at all. It is ironic - because it actually is because Barack and Bill exhibit a trait I tend to see more in females than males - they seek to get their message across by connecting with the audience - not just arrogantly barking orders at them. Hillary has always had a problem with this throughout her whole political career. Wonk wonk wonk - it sounds like Charlie Brown's teacher - and the audience glazes over.

We looked past that this year - because some Dems got a case of irrational exuberance and decided they would win the general election no matter who they ran . . . so let's go with Hillary - it's her turn.

Also, if Hillary does win the nomination. All you on this board who say nasty things about Barack Obama better understand this - if Obama did not run and Hillary had a cake walk to the general election - the flaws that are being exposed now would have been exposed by the Republicans in the general and she would have lost.

If she wins the nomination, you need to come up reasons why Hillary, and Hillary alone, can win the general election and lead this country. VP's matter little more than endorsements. And people judge the candidate on her or his own merits.

  15. I have not had cig in 29 years (do 'left handed cigs' count ??)and I used to be told that I looked like I was born with cigarette in my mouth. I looked so cool and I started with those candy cigarettes in the 1950's.

  17. about 10 years for me and cigs. Funny thing was after I had the quit the cigs for a couple of years I had a very mild Heart attack. they put in a stent and scraped one part of the vein and the other one they said went no where so that left it alone. So far, so good with regards to heart attacks.

We had a mom of a guy across the street that would find his mom's cigs and then move them and watch them for a day or two and then he would take them and we would then ride our bikes way out in the pastures and sit and smoke. Musta been about 12.

I still do not have your books from Amazon (and I struggled with just getting into the car and driving to the mall and buying the books at Barnes and Noble or ordering online -- which would the larger carbon foot print -- driving or Amazon?). And that is "what" I think the media tries to do for us -- tell us what to think? And that is not so easy because --

Is it the lesser of two goods or the lesser of two evils? Is the wine glass half-full or half-empty? Is a girl or is a boy? Is is black or is it white?

  24. Huffpo let the View off of the hook for the Chelsea comments because the hosts are comedians. Not the same for Shuster. And I had posted about a week ago "why" are comedians looked upon to do serious jobs...like Dennis Miller on Faux News...Maher on HBO. And we can pull out the bad humor card when it is not funny. But, sometimes it backfires like with Imus and Kramer?

I love humor...I sometimes backfire with a humorous attempt and I am considered a wise ass instead of witty. I sometimes think I use humor because I am scared. Sort of how Hemmingway would whistle when he was scared. I also think if we cannot laugh, we would all cry.

Maybe I need the media to tell me if it is funny or not!

  26. Congrats on the no-smoking success , Craig! My sister recently went to the doctor and the doctor thought she might have asthma. 29. #1 media blunder) Camelot effect --speaking of comedians, Jon Stewart posted a pic Ted Kennedy at BHO rally...really said some unflattering about old Ted. I am sorry it did make me laugh. A Daily Show is one of those media outlets that actually has some good political coverage. Craig have you been on A Daily Show? Or The Daily Show?

So, maybe comedians can do political commentary?

  30. Do you Clintonites understand what an unstoppable force the Obama campaign would be if most of Hillary's supporters stood behind him.

C'mon people - let's get back to what matters. Ending the war in Iraq and the mindset that got us in there in the first place.

We can all argue about who won which debate - but most people agree that Obama has the advantage when it comes to the Iraq issue.

Obama is the best candidate to go up against McCain and make the case against the Bush Doctrine. On the other hand, Hillary will be too busy explaining away her votes.

Remember what everyone said before all the hysteria regarding the campaign broke out - this election will be about Iraq and NOT the economy stupid.

How do you think McCain would the GOP nomination. By hammering his toughest opponent on Iraq and successfully labeling him as a flip-flopper. Are you so sure that won't work against Clinton.

Stop and smell the roses people - Obama and his record turn outs and staunch opposition to the war in Iraq is the closest thing the Dems could have to a virtual lock for the presidency.

But, always remember Chinese products may get to all of us first.

  34. Warren, Warren, Warren... what are you trying to do? Convince Hillary supporters to just say "uh ok, Obama will be unstoppable if we drop our support of her and support him instead" ??

Couldn't we just as easily say:

"Do you Obamanites understand what an unstoppable force the Clinton campaign would be if most of Barack's supporters stood behind him?"

What's the point here? We can go on and on and on, and excuse me for saying, but it seems most of us who are here are pretty entrenched in the candidate we are supporting. Warren, it just seems you are totally frustrated because we aren't going "right on, Barack is THE candidate"... It isn't going to happen, at least at this point in the process.

    Clinton/Obama 2008

P.S. I will support Barack Obama for the election if he wins the nomination. And that has to do with some reading I did on NY Times, not from the over-passionate head pounding by some supporters of his in the blog.

Hated it when I first moved there as a 20 yr old bride. Was born and raised in Manhattan so Marfa was QUITE a shock!!! LOL Wouldn't mind living there now tho. My grandson (he's 11) and I love to go in November for Gallery Weekend. Now THAT is a treat!
It's funny, I was just typing up a recipe for Patsi, from the Old Borunda Cafe in Marfa. DAMN!!! They made the best enchiladas!!! Too bad they closed. There's a good place in Alpine for mexican food but the name escapes me at the moment.

By now Craig , you have been inundated with suggestions and well-wishes on success and prevention plans.
I know you used straws ... when the craving gets BAD, if you have some kind of very-strong peppermint candy or menthol coughdrops, crush one or two and chew them a little and then suck on the cut-straw...the vapors from the menthol or peppermint inhaled with the straw give an incredible release pf cravings for a smoke...especially effective for menthol smokers...but I remember you told Imus you smoked Marlboros, I seem to recall.

One more reason it is different. Hillary has been around for 35 years. She is vetted and people know a ton about her. And 50% of the country have decided that they do not want to hear any more about her and will not vote for her. Kinda like some people on this board - but the reverse.

I guess about 40-50% of America have decided they will not support Obama - not because of what they know - but because of what they DON"T KNOW. A large portion of those people will come around as they get to know the man and his principles. Especially when their young children are telling them to vote for Obama, as well as some of the most seasoned political analysts.

Do you think that is because Huckabee supporters are mostly nurses and waitresses (which by the way is blatanly playing the gender card - and I could see how it could be offensive to women - I waited on tables!).

Anyways, could it perhaps be that when people gather for cauceses to select a candidate that the one thing they can all agree on is that Washington is broken and we need a change. Sounds more likely to me.

Also - how the hell to you come out against a process that requires citizens to take a more active role in the political process and one that inspires them to become more informed - in favor of one that is more influenced by "fame" and one that is anonymous so that people are more likely to vote their prejudices.

That is the kind of win-at-all costs bullshit that just frustrates me and many other Americans. Especially on top of trying the change the rules with respect to MI and FL and this constant complaining that the Clintons get a raw deal. Seems kind of hollow coming from one of the two most powerful and successful political dynasties in recent memory.

  66. Inspiration vs. Substance
Thursday, Feb. 07, 2008 By JOE KLEIN

And yet there was something just a wee bit creepy about the mass messianism — "We are the ones we've been waiting for" — of the Super Tuesday speech and the recent turn of the Obama campaign. "This time can be different because this campaign for the presidency of the United States of America is different. It's different not because of me. It's different because of you." That is not just maddeningly vague but also disingenuous: the campaign is entirely about Obama and his ability to inspire. Rather than focusing on any specific issue or cause — other than an amorphous desire for change — the message is becoming dangerously self-referential. The Obama campaign all too often is about how wonderful the Obama campaign is.

For all the whining about the media I hear from the Clinton campaign, the media's harsh words for the Clintons and over-the-top praise for Obama is allowing Clinton to distract us from all of her recent defeats.

The Clintons will be able to keep this thing going and will have more time to attempt to crush Obama and the dreams of those that support him. Thinking less about the Democratic party and more about themselves.

Listen people, I know the Clintons are running because they believe deep in their heart that Hillary would be the best - but then again, "pride" has always been the Clintons' achilles heal.

I looked up the 7 deadly sins...and this is the definition of pride that popped up first:

Pride is excessive belief in one's own abilities, that interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. Pride is also known as Vanity.

I would not have had the balls to say it better myself.

All people are asking Clinton supporters to do is look behind the veneer.

    maxtrue...

Like I said here is a part of your questions answered. I will not answer them all since it appears your true agenda is to question my faith and it don't really matter to you what I reply as you will find fault with any answer I give.

As long as I live I will have to answer to man's laws for my actions, unlike the current administration. When I pass on and I stand in front of my Creator Jesus I will accept whatever judgment He passes on me. I am not perfect as is no one but Jesus and I put my faith in Him.

Since these are rather long and I'm also including links this will be posted in multiple comments. Also you call my views radical and I'll agree that they are, however that doesn't mean I'm wrong. If it turns out I am than so be it, I'll just be another nut job spouting garbage. If I'm right than we have lost our Democracy and our Country. We may also end up in a Nuclear War where our country will be destroyed along with most of the World as China and Russia will side with Iran {if we are foolish enough to go to war with them} as they will not allow us to control Middle Eastern Resources like Gas and Oil.

So here is the first reply to your questions.

    Answer 1:

1: Who brought down the WTC?

The Trade Center Buildings were attacked by ninteen hijackers. These are the countries from which they came from.

    Saudi Arabia: Fifteen
    United Arab Emirate: One
    Lebanon: One
    Egypt: One

There was not one hijacker from Iraq. However, AE911 Truth.Org believes that the collapse of the buildings themselves was brought down by controlled demolitions. This group is made up of
Architects & Engineers and they have a online video you can watch if your willing to take the time.

The link for the site is:

Parts I & II - "WTC Building # 7 and Twin Towers - Controlled Demolition { 2 hours} can be found on this link:

Or you can see Part I: "WTC Building # 7 - A controlled demolition?" {45 minutes} by clicking on the video link on the left side of the websites page found above.

    Answer 2:

    2: Has Patraeous betrayed us?

Only Patraeous can answer that. The death toll of Iraqi citizens still continues to rise. These deaths are from a combination of American Military operations and Sectarian Violence between the different Iraqi Sects.

The estimated death toll of Iraqi citizens by the Lancet Group has been discounted by Government Officials.

    Answer 3:

3: What racist view similar to Hitler has Bush or Cheney written or stated?

I don't believe I ever said that Bush or Cheney stated or wrote any racist view. Would you please show me where I said that. I have said that they have the same powers that despots and dictators past and present have and that Bush got his through laws passed just like Hitler did. I also listed the Legislation which gave him those powers.

In Europe for many years in its history there was a demonization of Gypsies which I had mentioned and jamie commented on it. Germany had laws against Gypsies for many years and they were treated like the scum of the earth. You can read some about it if you care at the link below.

    http://history1900s.about.com/od/holocaust/a/gypsies.htm

Also Germany under Hitler and I haven't researched this very much, looked upon blacks as inferior and beneath them and showed great disdain as shown in the Munich Olympics. Much like America treated blacks and other minorities throughout our history. Below is a link to an essay entitled Racial Discrimination in America during the 1920's.

    http://www.planetpapers.com/Assets/2047.php

As you can see it was not only blacks being discriminated against if you read it.

And of course let's not forget what Hitler did to those of Jewish Heritage. I do not have to post any links on that as it is well known. He wanted to preserve the pure German bloodline, as he considered Germans superior to all others.

So what we have here is three examples of the Racists and Bigoted policies of Germany and Hitler.

How does that relate to the current administration and the country so many of us love?

We destroyed the Native Americans and stole almost everything they had and cherished. Over the years in our history we have had racists and bigoted views against anyone who was not a white Anglo Saxon American.

For Hitler it was Gypsies, Blacks and Jews.

For White America, not all, it went from Blacks to Hispanics {mostly Mexicans} to now Muslims. Those who on the far right call themselves Christians while preaching divisive policies give all other Christians a bad name. Though I find this to be very sad a lot of the so called Conservative Values crowd push issues that continue to divide this Nation. These so called family values voters {not all}, but I would suspect a majority run on and vote on issues like immigration, Abortion, Gay Marriage, Gun Rights and anything that will bring out there base and divide the country.

The constant sound byte from this Administration and the majority of Republicans is the Islamofascist Muslims want to kill us. This gives the impression that all Muslims are radical and therefore we have to fear them. We also here how they want to take our Freedoms away from us. The only ones who can take our Freedoms away from us is our Government. No one else has that power. Not any Third World Country can do that. Only ours.

For years we have interfered in the Governments of Foreign Countries. For years if we didn't like there policies we worked to undermine there Governments and installed our Dictators who were friendly to us. We did that in Iran and it didn't work out so well did it? Back then under Reagan along with many in this current administration {like Donald Rumsfeld} we supported Saddam Hussein. In fact we gave or sold him the Chemical Weapons he used in his War with Iran.

In fact after the first Gulf War we let Saddam use his helicopters to use poison gas against the Kurds in the North who rose up after we urged them to and then didn't help them when he attacked and killed them with the WMD's we sold him. So much for believing that the United States would follow through and come to there aide.

So long as Saddam was our Dictator we left him alone. When he decided to sell Iraqi Oil on a Bourse he was no longer of any interest to us, however the oil was. Our brave soldiers are dying and being maimed not for Democracy, but for Oil. So much for Christian values.

Anyone who believes its alright to spy on one's own citizens, arrest without a warrant because they think you may do something, hold indefinitely without the right to a lawyer or a court hearing, approve and condone Torture is not a true American, but a Fascist.

Remember that's what our forefathers fought and died for when they broke from England. The rights in our Constitution and Bill of Rights is what made us stand out from the rest of the World as a moral Nation built on the premise that All Men Are Created Equal.

Habeas Corpus which dates back to the Magna Carta was inserted into our rights to prevent the very thing from happening that is now becoming common place. And its not just those so called Terrorists that are affected by the stripping out of our Constitution that very principle. Even a American Citizen can now be held forever on a whim. Political opponents as well as any American Citizen who speaks out against these policies in favor of returning to our Constitution can be arrested and held.

This is not the America I was born in. I went to bed one night and woke up in American The Fourth Reich and if you think that's a radical thought than you are blind to what's taking place in what once was a Great Nation.

I'm through now. Think what you will of me. I will not be silent and I will not be a good German.

    God Bless.

Why do you keep acting like we would be "destroying the dream" if we vote for another candidate? There is something extremely unsettling about that whole line of thinking, and it has to be coming from the campaign.

  81. When I took up smoking as a teen, I thought someone would find a cure for cancer long before I'd have to worry about it killing me. Now, I rationalize that the economy and/or the Republican misrule will kill me before cancer catches me.

But I did give up M&Ms 10.5 years ago and potato chips 11 years ago -- addictive snacks I started eating only because a doctor told me I had to eat fatty food each time I took a particular pill I downed five times a day for some 18 months.

Stopping cold turkey on a date I selected in advance was easy then, so maybe I could stop smoking now if I found it annoying enough.

But currently there are too many worries -- like more stolen "elections" and the consequences of such demonstrably crooked dealings or too much media attention to certain candidates and too little attention to the misdeeds of this out-of-control administration, which should have been impeached at least six years ago -- so I still need to have a crutch.

I also wonder if they are so unsure of their candidate's ability to prevail that they think he can only win if Hillary backs out. "For thr good of the party, of course." Give me a break!!
By the way, some Hillary supporters seem to be inflicted with the same affliction in reverse.
Let me be clear. BOTH Hillary and Barack are excellent candidates. BOTH will make excellent presidents. And BOTH of them and ALL of us have a right to a civil campaign and a respectful dialog. Posted by: EuroTom Author Profile Page | February 9, 2008 5:47 PM

  99. i posted this on another page, but it's where I stand on the election.

Regarding Barack Obama's young drug use... so what? The guy was searching for something and like many of us, temporarily starting down the wrong path but changed the route and has made his life one of political activism, politics and inspiration. I think he should be commended for this.

What? A Hillary supporter saying such nice things about Barack? Surprise! I think if you ask every Hillary supporter they will recall Mr. Obama's keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. For a while I said I wouldn't vote for Obama because of how he went negative early on in the nominating process because his poll numbers stayed in the cellar. Some have suggested that I didn't like him because he is black, or because he dares to run against Hillary. That is bull ! It is because I saw him give that speech and I said "there's someone who really has an ideological framework for stopping the American divide, but then abandoned it when the chips were down."

After reading about his college years: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/09/us/politics/09obama.html?ref=politics , all I can see is a man who has worked hard, is extremely intelligent and committed to a better world. So in a nutshell, if he gets the nomination, I will vote for him.

I am still strongly for Hillary Clinton. I also really do believe that together, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama would be the new "dynamic duo" of politics and work hard to re-energize the American Dream.

  100. I for one also hope that everyone involved in both campaigns unite together to take the White House back in November.

And once again that being said I sincerely hope I'm wrong and we do have elections. You all know why from my previous comments I fear that something major is going to happen soon.

Reading the economy article I linked to earlier is also very scary as we may see a repeat of the Market Crash of 29 and people jumping off roofs when they lose it all.

We didn't see it as it was before our time and I really don't want to see it happen. But the economy is tanking and something like this could be used as an excuse to Declare Martial Law.

I'm not saying it will happen, but the possibility for it to is very real.

  108. What does new thread mean?

    Posted by: max | February 9, 2008 6:42 PM

  109. Let me say this - and then I think I need a nap.

Each one of us here believes in our heart that our candidate provides the best chance for the future of this country.

Most of us here are very aware of the critical challenges this country faces and understand how much THIS election matters.

I certainly admit that I have let my heart and my passion for my candidate cloud my judgment and cause me to say stupid things about the other great Americans running for president - who, along with supporters all over - are working their asses for for what they believe is in the best intersts of this country.

But we also must vote with our heads. I think there are serious questions about Hillary's ability to get things done in the White House. Let me be clear - I like and respect Hillary Clinton and believe progress would be stifled not because of a lack of effort or ability on her part, but rather because of short-sided obstacles placed in her way by Rove's henchmen and the Americans that still believe in the Bush Doctrine.

I also think she is polarizing. You ardently disagree and 50% of the country agrees - that sounds pretty divisive to me. You can blame it on the right-wing attack machine, or the media, or now even the Obama supporters. But it is REAL. Whether her high negatives are fairly earned or unfairly fabricated does not change the fact that they exist.

There are also serious questions about her electability in THESE times and in THIS race. I base this on the points discussed above and what we have seen in this campaign. Obama has handled himself with grace and determination, won support all over the country and has created a new generation that actually cares about politics. The KEYS for the Democrats are (i)attracting Independents and voters that for the first time ever (or the first time in years) will vote for a Democrat; and (ii) drawing a sharp contrast with the GOP nominee so that the Republican attack machine cannot blur the lines.

Do you really want to go over to the other side and start paroting back the conventional wisdom that the young vote can't make a difference? Are you willing to engage in a battle over the MI and FL delegates that will seal the Democrats fate with many voters in these key states (trust me, Obama will ensure their voice is heard when they vote for him in the general election). Finally, are you willing to win the nomination on the basis of the desires of "super americans" as opposed to the WILL of the American people? (talk about unfair media coverage - I think it is absurd to count super delegate votes in the total count when everyone who pays attention to these types of things know they can and will change their vote at any time!)

The youth does not make a difference when it is disaffected - it needs to be INSPIRED. And from what I've seen . . . there not the only ones (heck, even I am in my thirties despite often sounding like a teenager with my new-found interest in politics). Obama is calling a whole NEW generation to arms. This will not only impact this election - it will CHANGE the future. Not only in terms of votes - but with public service as well.

What the Republicans lack in sophistication and eleoquence they make up for with a savy, ruthless and cold-hearted approach to politics (again, this statement is meant for effect - but you can quote me on it). The point is that: I don't want to WIN the game. I want to CHANGE the game.

How can Obama make a REAL CHANGE to the way politics is conducted in Washington - you ask . . .

Because the new American Majority that votes for him in this election - including Democrats, Independents and Republicans, along with the growing cadre of new-age leaders on both sides of the aisle that support him - will all make sure that politicians who get in the way of OUR mandate will be cast aside - no matter who they are.

And that mandate is quite simple:

-END the Bush Doctrine and EVOLVE American foreign policy

-Make health care more affordable and accessible IMMEDIATELY and get us on the road towards universal health care

-Pass a COMPREHENSIVE immigration bill and ensure that our boarders are SAFE

-LEAD the world on fighting terrorism, speading human rights and protecting our environment.

-If we get on that path, I suspect the ECONOMY will be just fine.

Vote Obama and the join the New American majority. And don't worry, the Clintons will join us and BOTH will play key roles in guiding this country's FUTURE.
