If John McCain has not promised the Republican running-mate slot to Mike Huckabee, it must be on the table. Huckabee is already playing the attack dog for McCain, blasting Mitt Romney as only a sidekick can do.
The McCain-Huckabee team got a tryout today in West Virginia as the two joined forces to block Romney. Huckabee won 18 delegates as McCain backers threw him their support to prevent Romney from capturing the winner-take-all GOP state convention vote.
Whispers that McCain would pick the Baptist preacher and former Arkansas governor are helping ease the concerns of social conservatives, but Huckabee is still not a favorite among economic conservatives.
McCain-Huckabee would be popular with the news media – especially against Hillary Rodham Clinton, who has the worst press relations of anyone still running, and possibly even against Barack Obama, whose fawning coverage might reverse itself at any moment.

Craig,
Do you have any insiders take on just why the coverage of Hillary Clinton is so negative. It has gotten to the stage where you have to believe that the MSM has become campaign chairpersons for Obama.

I don't understand the hatred of Hillary by the press. I just don't. If this continues they press will try to derail her even if she gets the Democratic nomination. What the hell is going on?
I was saying in the other thread that I was so fed up with Barack Obama and his free ride media love fest, that I can't conceive of myself voting for him.
Interesting take on McCain/Huckabee. You are so spot on Craig. Huckabee would shore up the religious right that McCain will want in the general election voting. I am starting to doubt that this really will be a democratic year.

From the Last Thread...
To Warren.
Understanding that it is passion for our candidate rather than hate that drives us.
But you guys keep reminding me about blind partisanship and a willingness to make callous and demeaning remarks about anyone who disagrees with you.
This is why I support Obama - you guys make the case for me!
Posted by: warren | February 5, 2008 4:11 PM
Warren, I believe most of us who support Obama are staying thin on this Blog because of all the passion and high spirits from the Clinton people.
Remember this one thing. And please all you Newbies remember too.
Membership here is free. Just because Clinton and Obama are in campaign doesn't mean that you can burn the bridges here.
The Campaign is going to end...but are you going to be bitter or are you going to be able to shake hands.
There are A LOT of misunderstanding on this blog right now. There are A LOT of CLinton people and some trolls who don't believe they are making bad remarks. But they are.
There are A LOT of Obama who are coming on here just to hit back and defend. There are A LOT of Trolls using Obama to make you guys mad.
AND we are all falling for it.
This is why you don't see the Obama regulars on here right now and most of the day.
WE are trying to preserve our place here on the blog.
So Warren, WE WELCOME you. Please understand that everything you have said, has bee said and we would love to have a conversation with you.
Be nice about Senator Clinton and rise above the ones that are wanting a fight in the first place. Usually they are just wanting to spare and not have and understanding.
You will see me in the late hours and in the early morning hours. Now I won't tell you lies about Obama.

""You will see me in the late hours and in the early morning hours. Now I won't tell you lies about Obama."""

GAKaren:
I think the potential of an Obama presidency is not that congress will magically roll over for no good reason - but rather that he will garner support from all aisles and create a new American Majority. I think this was foreshadowed by the 2006 elections where many "non-traditional" candidates were successful.
In other words, Obama will articulate what needs to change - and the American people will make it happen. Congress will have no choice but to fall in line.
Also - it is not about rolling over. It is making progress on points most Americans agree on:
-We should get out of Iraq and engage in a more intelligent and sophisticated foreign policy - that creates allies rather than enemies.
-That healthcare should be reformed and it should be more affordable and accessible
-That we can do more to help Americans that are struggling in this economy through no fault of their own.

It is better but I am still wearing a brace so I don't turn it. I am also using a cane especially when it is slick out. I find if I try to make myself walk correctly, instead of limping, it doesn't hurt as much at the end of the day. I sure will be glad when Spring gets here so I don't have to be so careful when I walk.

Jack My Dear,
I am not going to try to pin you with issues. From the first, I've known that these two, who were much together on many possitions in the Senate would be much together in the way they wanted to run a government.
The one point I have always know about Obama and the one point that is VERY DEAR in my heart is Inclusion and Bipartisanship. In order for our country to heal, we have to have the two points that made us SO GREAT for so many years.
I honestly think Inclusion, team work, and bipartisanship is possible now and the time is ripe. Both sides want it too.
But I honestly believe it will take a very special forcce to do it. And that is why I have been so staunchly for Obama. It takes a special person with just the right attitude at the right time.
Other than that, I KNOW we have the best of the best in the Democratic party that will circle the wagons that "GIT ER DONE"
But the whole country has untified.

Our caucus was busy all day..my area is mostly white retirees and Hispanics. Again, I did not participate, but I observed from my parked car. Only Hillary signs outside the caucus and they were brought by middle age and friendly Hispanic men. : ) I was surprised how busy it was as the morning newspaper stated low turnout was expected. The paper also feautured a student poll from NMSU that put BO ahead. I think that only increased the turnout of the white, retiree crowd. They usually vote early and have the time to vote. And based on my in-laws in Phoenix (who voted early), they went for HRC. I know New Mexico is not that important to the whole this year, but it will be fun to see which way the state goes and how that influences BR.

Of course one of the greatest things about this election is us. The American people voting, volunteering and blogging because they are really invested in the process this year. It has been and continues to be historical.
The American people spoke loud in 2006. They thought they were sending a clear message to Washington to end the Iraq war. We got the surge. Instead of being discouraged - they are speaking even louder this year.
This could be Bush's legacy. He screwed up so bad that America was jolted from our complacency.
My hope is also that good will also come from the war in Iraq. Despite all the tragic consequences - one of them is that we have a real stake in the Middle East. We always did - but this war has brought it home. The region is now front and center as opposed to one of those issues we need to get around to. I hope that the next President can make significant process on the Middle East Peace Process.

I noticed one post had BHO...are we allowed to use his middle initial now?...I did not want to bring attention to his middle name as some suggested this wasn't the right thing to do. Which amazes me when a "Dubya" is sitting in the White House.

I still really, really want Hillary and will watch tonight closely. It deeply angers me if the sheeple (not you guys) can be led around by corporate dishonesty and makes me fear for the country. If they were willing to lie about this, what else might they be willing to lie about if it was for the corporate good as opposed to what is good for the nation?

Don't think MSNBC is thinking straight. If Obama wins (in November) what will they do?
MSNBC grew their audience by bashing the day-lights out of BUSH. Will they turn on their favored son, Obama? Or will they just continue making shows based on picking on FOX? Maybe they are banking on a McCain win, which would give them at least 4 more years of content.
I guess when you are in last, you do anything.
Posted by: EmptyTalkingBigHead | February 5, 2008 7:39 PM
To Jamie and everyone on this board -- be strong, no matter how "euphoric" you might eventually feel about Obama winning or "upset" you might feel about Hillary losing.
Fact is, either way...the onslaught has not yet begun. We all remember feeling euphoric back in 1992 as Clinton surged toward general-election victory, and I think we all remember the incredible feeling of optimism Inauguration Day in 1993. So we've all been there, done that.
Do not lose sight of the real foe: GOP Attack Machine not just in the general election, but post-Inauguration...that can absolutely ruin a presidency, even if it's one as hopeful and exciting as an Obama or Hillary presidency.
Be strong. The worst is yet to come.

Jamie
I wish I wasn't so cynical...because I do believe it is not what is good for the nation that any of these candidates want. (even HRC) It is about the benefits of their cronies. It is the reason I want HRC as I have seen who benefits from a Clinton presidency and I approve that message. The world has a ton more respect for us then. Our economy was better...I just worry about Oprah. When she tired of the young people in the US (too spoiled -- all they want is a free IPODs from me), she turned to Africa and ran into the some problems there with her school. So, she came running back to the US to support her Senator after she had sat on her political hands for years.
Maybe the lesser of evils...but it is the way I feel and no Tweety or Tucker is going to sway me.

As abbreviations go BHO is better than BO.
Sheila, The way those job figures looked this morning, there is still a lot more down to come. The destruction Bush has done to this country could take more than a generation to repair if we are lucky.
Another person being interviewed praising Obama's "Message" from the guy who defeated him in his first run in Illinois. More rainbows and butterflies.

You and I know its going to be AT LEAST the next generation that will have to endure. We also know that it will take all the best heads to even START getting us out of this mess.
But what we also know is that Americans always put our noses to the grind stone when it comes to good hard work. We've been there before and our children will have to learn too.
But on that, We Shall Over Come Someday.

I know how you feel. This was our chance. The time was right. Then out of the blue, some nobody comes in and sells himself as the next coming of Christ. But he does it by being in tune with the internet, the social structure of on-line communities, that few people with real lives/ careers really understand. Additionally, the warped MSM had a love fest with the guy.
Obama is the equivalent to "it's not your father's Oldsmobile"
there is still hope...it's not over....
Lots of loyalty those people the Clinton helped out have. I'd be pissed for the lack of support. I guess color, for them, is more important then deeds.

Real change would be a promise of fresh faces in the Cabinet, yet Obama can't promise that, because he knows it would make folks uneasy, so he says he will seek advice from oldtimers, which means no change at all.
I was a longtime subscriber to The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. It's a very readable magazine ; it's the one with the clock that moves closer to midnight and back to the "quarter-'til" slot depending on the potential of a nuclear war.
With McCain in High Office at 1600, the damn clock will be stuck at 11:59 all the time.
Do people realize how dangerous it will be to have a deranged creep like him in charge of The Bomb?
Now we all know Congress will never try to stop a president no matter how insane the act may be (witness Shock and Awe).

DND and Sheila...you both need to go up-post and click on the parody of the "Yes We Can" video starring Tyra Banks. Just search "tyra" and you'll find it.
It's just a spoof, but it does suggest how shallow "celebrity support" really is in the end.
Where will Scarlett Johansonn (sp?) be when the going really gets tough for Obama in the White House? Oh...she'll be on a shoot somewhere.
That's why I don't really get too inspired by stuff like that. It's the same kind of thing that could have been pumped right out of Reni Liefenstahl Studios, and doesn't do much for constructive debate.
