Barack Obama is gingerly showing signs of awareness that he needs a bit of substance in his swagger, adding a few more specifics to stump speeches and dispatching more policy advisers for interviews.
Why get into the details now that he is the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination? Perhaps because his savvy campaign handlers see a need to shore him up against empty-suit jokes.
It's the sort of narrative you want to head off before late-night comics get involved. And one that got a start last night on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" with an opening sketch portraying Obama as a shallow smooth-talker mesmerizing gullible reporters.
Both Hillary Rodham Clinton and John McCain are hammering away at the all-hat-no-cattle argument against Obama. Letting that image take hold could even turn his talent against him, converting his moving speeches into disturbing reminders that there might be nothing more to him.
But Obama can be a thoughtful and detail-oriented policy wonk. Several times last year in Iowa and New Hampshire town halls I watched his own supporters yawn as he plowed the issue weeds.
Perhaps Obama needs to revive those sleepy performances now and then. A long and boring policy speech once a week would probably be enough to make the emptiness go away.

All hat, not cattle? heheheheheh
It's such an uphill fight for Hillary now, but the more I listen and watch Obama, the less confident I am that he can carry off a general election win. He keeps on opening doors for criticism by the retarded-right. And really, any Presidential candidate who refuses to wear an American flag pin, no matter what reasoning they see -- it's going to be fodder all the way through the election I fear.
I still hope for Hillary. Larry Sabato puts her chance now at only 20% to get the nomination. We can hold off a bit longer.

Glad I DVR'd SNL last night!!
The problem is double edge - when Obama starts to share his policy speech - this also may drive voters away. The naivety of Barack is refreshing but the real world will take more then a wish and fantasy to bring audacity of hope to reality. Having young voter in my house – I wonder if Barack can give any better answers to the difficult question? Barack Policy - if you can find it will be a concern to most once understood.
CRAIG – you set yourself up as some will read this as anti Obama, which clearly you have laid the facts and guidance. He should hire you. However I am sure you want to be with a winner.

Obama Comedown Syndrome - David Brooks
"The afflicted had already been through the phases of Obama-mania — fainting at rallies, weeping over their touch screens while watching Obama videos, spending hours making folk crafts featuring Michelle Obama’s face. These patients had experienced intense surges of hope-amine, the brain chemical that fuels euphoric sensations of historic change and personal salvation.
... .. Up until now The Chosen One’s speeches had seemed to them less like stretches of words and more like soul sensations that transcended time and space. But those in the grips of Obama Comedown Syndrome began to wonder if His stuff actually made sense. For example, His Hopeness tells rallies that we are the change we have been waiting for, but if we are the change we have been waiting for then why have we been waiting since we’ve been here all along? ... "
TM - "What the media has ignored, then built up, they now are salivating to tear down. This is going to get ugly. Just wait until the GOP starts defining Mr. Obama, something he should have done himself a long time ago."

FRANK RICH SPOTS A BIGOTED LIAR
"The pattern has been clear for some time; you can trash Big Dems any damn way you please. If Gore can be the world’s biggest liar, why can’t the Clintons both be major racists? Liberals barely uttered a peep while Gore was endlessly trashed that way. Today, many liberals are deeply involved in pushing the race claims RE Clinton."

This is one of those, "I wish I hadn't been right" columns. Way back at the beginning of the debates, I commented that he sounded as if he had swallowed his briefing books. There seemed to be no real knowledge, world experience, or empathy behind his answers only a regurgitation like a star student on a test.
The other day when dealing with direct questions from newspeople about a minor issue that didn't fit in with the spiel he was all stop and stutter. Not because he isn't bright but because he is only comfortable with what he has memorized not what he knows.

Yes Craig this is the Prozac et. al. generation. People don't want to hear any bad stuff, what the problems are and how you are going to try and solve them. That has been Clinton's problem. She just isn't shallow enough and she can't dumb herself down enough. People don't have the attention span for details. They want their leader to just be happy and tell them "Yes We Can!"

I watched the replay of HC's SOTBU speech via C-Span this morning. I thought she was pretty good, and there was good audience response during the Q&A.
I was disappointed by the demeanor of many in the audience, mostly the younger people, who, through their body language demeaned the historical significance of what they were experiencing.
I think that every one of us when attending a lecture from a professor that we had to suffer through, would have behaved with more civility.
I thought Tavis asked the right questions allowing her to expand on her platform and to speak about her historical commitments.
I was pleased at the opportunity of being there through the courtesy of C-Span's lens.

"As Alexander Cockburn wrote about Obama: “I used to think Sen. Joe Lieberman was the man whose words I’d least like to be force fed top volume if I was chained next to a loudspeaker in Camp Gitmo, but I think Obama, who picked Lieberman as his mentor when he first entered the U.S. Senate, is worse. I’ve never heard a politician so desperate not to offend conventional elite opinion while pretending to be fearless and forthright.”

"David Brooks is not a reliable guide to ANYTHING"
Isn't that the truth, dog's eye! I've half-way followed him over the past few years and noticed that he often takes completely different positions depending on whether he's writing a column or appearing on various shows. And his positions are so often so flawed.
By the way, Gordo....wean yourself away from Taylor. I read her sometimes, and sometimes she makes good points. But she is VERY partisan, to the point of HER being cultish.
Now I have to find that article about George Bush being drunk! :)

dog's eye
I'm not putting down his community organization because you are right that most of the uplift in poor areas comes not so much from government, but rather people joining together to pull themselves up. What I wish was that someone had taken a close look at this period in his life to determine how many of his activities were as the "public image" of the activities and how much had been the "on the street" grunt work necessary to make things happen.
Did you see the closing of the Tavis Smiley event yesterday? He closed it by thanking the people on his staff who had actually pulled the event together, made the arrangements, and moved people from point A to point B. What I want to know about Senator Obama is did he climb the ladder to become the leader or did some person/group put him up on the pinacle because he spoke and looked like the image they wanted.

One time when I was in college I flew down to Arizona to visit my then boyfriend. I bought the latest issue of Cosmo and sat down at the gate. Right across from me was a nun in full garb. I thought to myself: I am going to be seated right next to that nun and I am not going to be able to read my new Cosmo. Sure enough, she was on the aisle, I was in the middle. Nothing to read the entire flight. Some of you may have been able to indulge in the various sex surveys etc. Cosmo has to offer while seated next to a nun. Not this Catholic school girl.
{BTW: Before you judge my reading choices, I was in college.}

I have a helluva nun story. One of my older sisters (I had a bunch of 'em) was something else....an Ava Gardiner lookalike, with Ava's personality as well. Definitely larger than life for such a petite woman. She died of a brain anuerism in her early fifties....her husband was so distraught he started drinking and ended up going to rehab. His "contact" was a nun -- don't know what they call the people who stick by each person when they get sprung....
The two ended up having a long and very secret affair that only ended when he died 15 years later....
I asked one of my other sisters what she thought about it, and she said, "Well, after Barbara, I guess a nun was the only way to go."

Craig -"I watched his own supporters yawn as he plowed the issue weeds."
Last night in Cleveland, Obama supporters left before he was finished. At one point he lost his place in his speech, it was really awkward from a speaking point of view. It was during the "hope" rift, and it fell flat.
I came away thinking he could be replace by any other young successful community organizer, who graduated Harvard Law, etc. That is what he does best. But there are so many people in the USA, who could fill those shoes. Meaning, I do not see that Obama, personally, brings anything of great value, character, knowledge or unique experience to the position of the President of the US.
I tried to like him, I went with an open mind, I came away, thinking I could never vote for him....I hope I do not have to.

The media pick the winners
by Bill Press
"Nonetheless, even though no one candidate has yet locked up their party's nomination, we might as well cancel the rest of the primaries or caucuses. The media have already decided that this year's standard bearers will be John McCain and Barack Obama.
Yes, somewhere along the line, the role of the media has changed from reporting on the primaries to deciding the primaries. They pick their favorites, they give them preferential treatment, they tear down their opponents, and they anoint their winning candidates even before voters have a chance to go to the polls."

Similar to the Ali-Foreman fight most people thought Ali was going to get soundly beaten up by Foreman. Ali had a plan to big the much bigger, tougher fighter. he would stay on the ropes and take the hard shots, while taunting him with, "Is that all you got". Ali won the fight, and he won the fight with what would become know as the ropea-dope technique. Ali won by keeping his reserves in-check until Foreman got tired and then Ali unloaded on him
Obama is winning, Hillary seemed to some to almost be throwing in the towel during this last debate, she looks tired, she appears to be beaten, but I got a feeling HRC is taking a page out of the Ali playbook and is doing a ropea-dope of her own making. I think today's news is proof of that.

Good Bill Press article, Gordo. I liked this part:
"No doubt, McCain's an attractive candidate. After interviewing him on the Straight Talk Express in 2000, I became somewhat of a McCainiac myself. He's accessible, funny and irreverent: all the qualities reporters like in a candidate, which is why he gets a free ride from his friends in the media, compared to Mitt Romney. Everybody knows about Romney's flip-flops, yet McCain has changed positions on tax cuts, immigration, the Confederate flag, repeal of Roe v. Wade and the role of evangelicals in politics. Read about any of those in the press? Of course not."

Jamie said:
"What I wish was that someone had taken a close look at this period in his life to determine how many of his activities were as the "public image" of the activities and how much had been the "on the street" grunt work necessary to make things happen."
Jamie
As someone who has done community organizing on the block level(even have a couple of success stories I brag about) I was sceptical of the community organizer banner.
In the non-profit/ CDC world many call themselves community organizers. Most of them are better described as , grant writers, seminar providers, management. They never get in the neighborhood and knock on doors.
However, I believe that Obama (or one of his speech writers) has been out in the trenches, knocking on doors, personally trying to persuade people to help themselves make their life better.
There is a story he has in one of his speeches, a story only someone who has been in the trenches can tell.
I think anyone who does door to door organizing has the same story, I do.
It is the first time story.
You have done all your work contacted everybody on the block , they all seemed excited and interested. They all agree to meet to organize. You find a place to meet arrange everything ,soft drink, little snack cakes , door prizes,
Then you and your fellow organizers wait for the people to come. Then you wait some more and more and more. Nobody shows.
When Obama told this story I knew he was a fellow organizer.

From what I read, and where I did I don't exactly remember, Hillary has to win Ohio, Texas and Pennsylvania and still have the punished delegate states seated in order to win the nomination.
Something caught my interest yesterday... someone pointed out that the early primary in Florida was the doing of the Republican governor and legislature. Is it possible that the gov knew that the Dems would penalize the entire delegation, but the repugs only 1/2 resulting in Floridians feeling more "in favor" with the pugs? Just a thought.

Just finished watching Hillary at SOTBU yestereday. Here is link to full clip:
http://www.c-span.org/Politics/Default.aspx
Great speech.
I noticed that the younger folks in the audience were not very interested or enthusiastic but OK.
What I did love was Tavis Smiley with several little swipes at Barack Obama by coming out and telling them to get on their feet and thank Hillary for "showing up" after her speech then doing it again after the Q & A saying - thank HRC for "showing up". I believe he was making a point to some of the younger voters that refused to even show any appreciation...basically saying that no matter how you feel about her, at least she showed up to talk to us and was willing to answer questions - you can at least acknowledge that - takes a lot of guts to walk into a hostile environment like that. BO would have brought the place down and he didn't even bother to show up - taking their support for granted ...so she did deserve a lot of credit...even if it was just out of politeness.

Senator Joseph Biden is probably the single best foreign relations expert in the Senate. He is extremely pleasant but about as wonkish as you can get simply because he knows so darn much. He was my first choice for the Democratic nomination even though I knew he had a snowball's chance, and, after running in in the early primaries, hedropped out due to lack of votes.
This morning he just quietly sat down with Stephanopoulis and analyzed the world, principally Cuba, the middle east and Kosovo.

Hats off to Tina Fey. CNN and CQ reported on Huckabee but filtered out the jabs at Obama. Just what SLN was poking fun at. Reality imates art imitating reality.
Platoon remark by Obama was a lie and after Hillary's graciousness the nafta pandering and lies about "boon" is classy too. Also, Obama said he only had a casual relationship with Rezko. Did you know that Rezko gave money to Khaladi (Obama's friend from his rarely discussed Columbia years, who spoke for the PLO when they were a terroroist group) back in 2002? What a strange circle of friends. This is the stuff that kills later, but much is mention in the above link.

Obama funded that immoral war too so he was against it before he was for. Plenty of other senators vvoted against the funding.

And there is the problem, Americans don't want liberals in a position of power. Even FDR ran to the right in a year that anybody could have beat the Republicans. The only time in the last 100 years was JFK. and he couldn't govern effectively once he was president.

"Did she get her hands dirty like you want BHO to do?"
She did at the beginning when she first started with some of these groups back when she was still at Wellesley and Yale. She moved up the ladder.
That is what I want to know about Senator Obama. He seems to have gone from High School to College to Law School to his organization work. All I am asking is at any point did he do the voluteer and low paid nitty gritty work or did he slide from comfort to comfort.

Take heart, the goods news is that everyday that passes the MSM, other than the NYT, are starting to slowly peel away at the thin layers of the Obama mystique, and are exposing that other than a smiling face, a well spoken individual who boast of a number of talking points, there just isn't much there in the way of substance or accomplishments.

"And there is the problem, Americans don't want liberals in a position of power."
No, Jack, the problem is that the word "liberal" has been made into a big bad dirty word by the right. The definition of the word "liberal" is thus:
1. suitable for a freeman; not restricted: now only in liberal arts, liberal education, etc.
2. giving freely; generous
3. large or plentiful; ample; abundant a liberal reward
4. not restricted to the literal meaning; not strict a liberal interpretation of the Bible
5. tolerant of views differing from one's own; broad-minded; specif., not orthodox
6. of democratic or republican forms of government, as distinguished from monarchies, aristocracies, etc.
7. favoring reform or progress, as in religion, education, etc.; specif., favoring political reforms
8. tending toward democracy and personal freedom for the individual; progressive
9. designating or of a political party upholding liberal principles, esp. such a party in England or Canada
10. excessively free or indecorous in behavior; licentious
How did all of this become a BAD THING? By the right insinuating that having LIBERALS (oh noes!!!) in charge would mean we'd all be forced to give up our guns, gay marry each other, and convert to Islam and become Communists. And stupid people actually BELIEVED THE BULLSHIT.

FWIW. Sidley Austin, the Chicago law firm where Michele mentored the young Obama, is in the top ten corporate contibutors to Obama. Of course we all know Obama is basically owned by BIG PHARM.

Dog's Eye
"And like it or not, that is how a lot of voters feel. You cannot change that fact. Secondly, the presidency is a bully pulpit. Inspirational speech is not a disqualification"
I'm actually fairly resigned to his winning the nomination. After GWB having a president who can string three words together will be a relief. What I am uncomfortable about is Obama's ability to speak from a core of knowledge, experience, and belief.
I had a long association with someone who made a good part of his income speaking followed by question and answer. It always amazed me that he answered all questions conversationally not with memorized lines. That is the kind of expertise I'm looking for in a President. It is why I admired Biden so much at the beginning.
Presidents need good speeches to encourage the public. They need knowledge and experience to do the job.

Hillary keeps saying she will be ready to face all the tough issues facing this country beginning on "day one" in Jan. 2009. Why doesn't she start doing something about these issues NOW.
Last year, Hillary Clinton wrote a letter complaining that Bush needs to starting working on a exit plan from Iraq. 7 months ago, Obama convened a working group of his advisors to starting looking into this issue themselves.
This group included Samantha Power - who is one of
Obama's Foreign Affairs advisors:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samantha_Power
She's got a new book out:
http://us.penguingroup.com/nf/Book/BookDisplay/0,,9781594201288,00.html
Hillary seems better at pointing out other people's flaws (and ignoring her own) - than she is at solutions.

Obama supporters sure seem to feel it is necessary to savage Hillary on a daily basis. Looks like they know this nomination fight is not over.
The more I listen to Obama, Mrs. Obama, and Obama supporters, the more it becomes that the new politics is a big public relations scheme.

Larry Sinclair Allegations
"Dr. Ed Gelb, Former President of the American Polygraph Association was the Polygraph expert selected by Whitehouse.com. He has done over 30,000 polygraph examinations over his long career. There were two polygraph tests administered by Dr. Gelb on Friday. the first polygraph asked Mr. Sinclair on his sex claims. The second polygraph test asked Mr. Sinclair on the drug use claims. There was deception indicated in both tests.
It was our intention to get to the truth in this serious matter rather than have these allegations that were made almost a month ago drag on to election day. Due to the seriousness of this issue we made the results public today rather than waiting until Monday when we would have received the second expert's conclusions. When we receive the second expert's conclusions we will post those results as well."

BO came from a broken home. Was his mother wealthy? If not,how did he become so wealthy at such a young age?And who is the force behind him?Someone has been grooming him for a long time. His years in State senate were carefully excercised so as not to make any controversial votes that could be used against him.He wrote about his past so he could say it was off limits and old news and the media accepts this arguement..I think there is a powerful movement behind him and it is not grass roots.Could it be big business{he met with Bloomberg ]Or could iy be muslim, trying to destroy us from within.Or could it be more sinister. My religious friends tell me that some day the anti-christ will appear and will be treated like a rock star and the masses will follow him like sheep.Could Obama be DAMIAN!

Now, now, Doots....part of the reason Hillary was so maligned was because she WAS an involved participant as First Lady. She took body blows from pundits, cartoonists, editorialists and every oinker in the world for her work in those years.
Say what you will, but her speech to the 1995 World Conference of Women in Beijing, China re: women's rights was historic. Maybe the Obama people fall down in worship when he blows his nose, but when I heard her words on that day, I stood and applauded. For something real.
And as far as meaningful speech making, you show me a speech Mr. O has given that surpasses this one for worldwide attention, importance, substance and courage, -- and, as my old granny used to say, "I'll put in with 'ya."
The New York Times wrote:
Speaking more forcefully on human rights than any American dignitary has on Chinese soil, Hillary Rodham Clinton cataloged a devastating litany of abuse that has afflicted women around the world today and criticized China for seeking to limit free and open discussion of women's issues here. . .
Continuing with references to domestic violence, genital mutilation, coercive abortions and sterilizations, Mrs. Clinton told the delegates from more than 180 countries, "If there is one message that echoes forth from this conference, let it be that human rights are women's rights and women's rights are human rights, once and for all."

Jamie,
"Sheesh. I thought the Obama supporter at the Caucus who said we should vote for him because the bible promised seven years of plenty was just a shade delusional."
Can't say much about that other than at least they stated something other than the usual reply, "he represents hope and change". Asking Obama fans what they think is starting to sound like the old Dick Clark show American Bandstand. And Darleen how would you rate that record? "Well I give it a 86 has a nice beat, and words, something I could dance to".

I like your bringing up American Bandstand, Corey....It's what some here really want the dialogue to be about. Nothingness. This campaign reminds me of the film Nashville, where the recorded message keeps on rolling through town oever and over and over and over. I do believe that once Obamamania sweeps through the country we'll be as glassy eyed and complacent as when Reagan ruled. After all, the voice just keeps on saying its all going to be wonderful.

Sturg and Horsepoop
I did not say I wouldn't post a "link "ever again. When I did post a link SEVERAL DAYS after my verbal exit, Shelia said she wouldn't read it until I identified what it was. That was about a week ago. At the time, others said to keep posting which was my "Diva" requirement. Since then, I have posted, I believe, three times, all of short length and to provide links. So you can take your remarks and, er well, .....
you know what I mean.
For the rational, the link I left, starting at the top of the linked thread, discusses the similarity of Obama to Carter and please Obamamaniacs, I'm hardly talking about the color or personality of the two preachy politicians. NAFTA is now all wrong?.....LOL Now there is a real coalition of Union and Free Marketers that the Clintons brought together along with Republicans. That is consensus building. Now because of failure to enforce the NAFTA conditions Obama is calling NAFTA bad, rather than promote rational reform. Such is the extremism of the pander Obaminator. And yes, GIVE more aid to South America, rather than open up markets. So, I wonder about Craig's suggestion.
The McGovern Wing is back in form. And Craig, again, I don't know if policy is something Obama should start talking about. Staying vague and MTVish is probably his best bet. A Wonkish review of his scattered declarations will only lead to shredding. The Second Coming is a better sell. SNL hit it in a nut shell.

There's been a fair amount of talk about how uplifting the Obama campaign has been and how his surrogates have been well mannered, etc.
I've contended that, in South Carolina, Mr. Obama's campaign was one of manipulation that cast the Clintons as the worst kinds of racists. Did they print these charges in their literature? No, it was more of a 'death by a thousand cuts' or, rather, 'death by a thousand whispers'.
The real, lasting, outcome was in other states and in our country as a whole.
The St Petersburg Times is regarded as one of the country's finest newspapers. Certainly it's the best newspaper in Florida.
After South Carolina, and on the Sunday before Florida's primary, here is how they, through their Editor of Editorials, characterized the Clintons in their lead editorial, "SLINGING SLIME IS WHAT CLINTONS DO BEST":
http://tinyurl.com/yva35l
That is why I'm so upset about how the primary has unfolded.

I have had huge pc problems...which is a good thing because I started reading and whether print or internet or cable/tv, I think everyone is getting their say and fill of politics. We still have over eight months until the election. I am glad Jamie is talking about movies. I have been watching In Treatment on HBO. Nice diversion.

A theory about the elections was suggested to me today. What think y'all?
This is the theory posited: The men in suits behind the scenes of the Democratic Party are tipping the scales in favor of Obama because they want a man in the office and don't care what the color of his dick is. Obama can beat McCain because he has less baggage than Hillary. When Obama wins, the men in suits will run the show and control Barack, and he will become a puppet. The men in suits have never tried to control a woman as President and don't want to deal with that fearing that they won't be able to.
Also asked: What's happened to the white supremacists and all their variants? Nary a word has been heard from them.

That was just part of the continuing discussion.

It was between her and Tilda and Cate had won before ... typical Oscar think.

I'm a huge Cate Blanchett fan and thought after winning the Golden Globe she had it in the bag - but I've also been a big Tilda fan for years as well (in fact only went to see the first Elizabeth because I thought it was Tilda...but ended up loving Cate- she should have won the Oscar for that). Saw Michael Clayton the other day and can say Tilda was great - deserved it. She underrated as an actress.

Jamie - you're probably right but Tilda won the BAFTA too and was really great in Michael Clayton...maybe Cate will pull out a surprise and win Best Actress?? I know long shot.

......and from my point of view the man is really not black at all...I do not believe he was raised in the "black" experience....which may mean nothing at all, but it is one thing to actually "be" something, and another to "claim" it.
Not trying to piss anyone off, just an observation.

Wendy - Another BAFTA fan - I always get them on BBC America to get an idea of what British films I need to hunt down.
Posted by: jamie | February 24, 2008 9:52 PM
One question -
not sure if anyone's mentioned it already - too many posts to go through, but why did Barack suddenly drop 'folkes' in the debate? he didn't say it once, yet in every other debate it was 'folkes this' and 'folkes that' - where'd all the folkes go??

Jamie,
I don't think you are a racist, I know that when I read what you post you never have those kind of tones or thoughts included. I mean really, I have not been here too long, but "racists" is not a label I would ever stick on you.
Stop wasting your breath with that other one. If "he" really thinks you are a racists as he said, then I would have to believe he does not want to know you or listen to you.
Posted by: unlikely_burrito | February 24, 2008 10:44 PM
Funny you spend a great deal of time "qualifying" the life experience of others you have never met and know nothing about. Your opinion is God never to be altered by anything resembling facts or reality.
And yes, you are constantly that egotistic, smug, and riddled with covert and overt antagonism.

I can't believe you could not at least know in your stomach that this conversation was going over the line.

What are you trying to do with your countless attacks on people who post here, only to be impaled by you caustic tones and lack of understanding?
I mean really, why can't you just be civil?
Is that too high of a ground for you?
Please explain, as it would be of interest to all here.
And if there was good reason, for your "assholeness" , I am sure we would all support you.

Sheila,
Those things could not be more public that him writing and speaking about them himself. He has written two books. He has given interviews. It is all part of who he is and if you will really read what I wrote, I said it was to his credit that he sought out that experience.
Why in the world should I not write in public what he has written and said in public. If he were in any way ashamed of it, I'm sure he wouldn't have said it himself.
Posted by: jamie | February 24, 2008 11:26 PM
I think that BO has identified himself with the African-American population of America. However, I believe that he is half white and half black. Nothing more nothing less.
So if that means that he can't hale a cab I am sorry, but in reality, he has had more opportunities then most.
He had a better education, he had an extended family that believed in the importance of education. He had someone there when his father ditched him.
If you do not think that that is important to our American families then you are the ones that miss the point.

La Vien Rose is completely in French so be sure you get one that is subtitled.
The music is all Edith Piaf's recordings that she lip synched. She got the speaking voice, look and mannerisms perfectly.
The film is blurry, but it will give you an idea of just how well cotilliard captured her

Before i go. Montel Williams has had one of the best educations too. He's even more visually known that most person's of Color.
Even HE has been stopped more than once for driving his JAG because he was just some black guy driving an expensive car. he has been handcuffed and taken to the station and roughed up until they figured out who he was....and all for being a "Rich Guy" out for a drive in his car.
Burrito, you have no earthly idea, what this Privileged Black Candidate has experienced in this life. Does he have to wear THAT on his sleeve too?

If you want to argue with me about whatever , please be clear, so that I can answer appropriately.

49:48 Here's the video , complete speech, Barack Obama, Savage Hall, U. of T., Toledo, Ohio, yesterday. On the right of the page there's a window to click to access the video. 9,000 people showed up.
In Bowling Green , just a few minutes down I-75, Bill Clinton filled half a room .
The 9,000 was a full house, BTW. The people were nuts for Obama..he's the darling of the masses.

I just watched th entire speech. He's right about NAFTA, and how HRC was in the White House when Bill championed NAFTA. Gore was for it too. Our UAW local team was outraged...I wanted to believe that if Bill said it really was a good thing, it had to be...but that was wishful thinking.
Now, of course, HRC distances herself from all that, and in those calls I got today, she promises to end NAFTA.
And hey, I AM glad BO will end the war...but also I do not buy his voting for war every chance he gets . He just totally blows off talking about that.
Ignorant folks think he will be weak on defense....that is wrong...he's committed to keeping the Pentagon well-stocked with munitions, rest easy if you think he's any kind of peace candidate...he is not.
Also, a very young crowd there at Toledo...kids can't vote and college kids traditionally don't vote...we'll see how it plays out.

What obama did was lie about nafta again, and he's a phony. You people are allowing a very very dangerous person to take over your minds with his preaching and rhetoric. Do some research. Wake the hell up before it's too late. He's a preacher selling his ministry with no specifics. He's been caught on numerous lies but the media refuses to investigate the truth about this guy. They let him get away with anything and everything. Are you serioulsy going to jeopardize this country again for a guy you "like"? Are you really going to do this without deep investigation of this guy?
Posted by: Obama the Svengali | February 25, 2008 3:06 AM
You are WRONG about NAFTA. An independent group investigated his claims and found them to be false.
He as voted FOR every bill for the war Bush asked for.
He will NOT end the war any sooner than any Dem had offered.
He will NOT get his health care passed (check the experts who compared all the programs)
He deserted the Illnois Vets and had the 2nd worst record for his desertion of committee responsiblities and attendance at meetings (he missed more than 50% of the mtgs ) yet he touts this in his rhetoric that he cares so deeply.
Look at this one:
Obama's record on the Senate Foreign Relations committee
Doubts about Barack Obama's presidential credentials have crystallized during the past two weeks over his stewardship of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee's Subcommittee on European Affairs, which has convened no policy hearings since he took over as its chairman last January. That startling fact, first uncovered by Steve Clemons, who blogs on the Washington Note, prompted acid comment in Europe about the Illinois senator's failure to visit the continent since assuming the committee post, and even speculation that he had never traveled there except for a short stopover
Are yo seriously going to jeopardize this country based on someone who turned you into a zombie just like the bush sheep?
Louis Farrahkan is openly backing him too along with a lot of dangerous controversial other people.
