Rudy Risks a Sunny Waterloo

| | Comments (222)

Orlando -- If there is any luck at all for Rudy Giuliani, the former New York mayor and Republican White House hopeful is due for a comeback. Other onetime frontrunners in the presidential race – Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton and Republican John McCain – managed return engagements after dramatic falls from grace.

But the timing of Giuliani’s roller coaster ride works against him. Today’s news that top staffers will forgo salaries would have been a survivable setback months ago. Now that the voting has begun -- and Giuliani’s results look like the numbers for a second-tier candidate or worse – the pressure is on for a big win in Florida’s Jan. 29 primary.

Still, the GOP race is shaping up in a way that gives Giuliani’s Florida-or-bust strategy a fighting chance. The first two contests produced different winners: Mike Huckabee in Iowa and McCain in New Hampshire. A third or more could emerge in the next round of voting in Michigan on Tuesday and South Carolina on Jan. 19.

That will leave ten days of campaigning in Florida after the South Carolina primary. If Giuliani cannot win the Sunshine State his candidacy could go dark in the following week before Tsunami Tuesday, when more than 20 states vote on Feb. 5.

  1. Sunny Waterloo? Um, the Iowa caucus is over, and as far as I know, Rudy never went to Waterloo, IA. And the forecast for Waterloo isn't sunny until Sunday, and only partly sunny at that...

  2. Just think, If he runs out of cash, he can stay in Florida. Suppose it's over for him, if he gets on board with one of the other GOP and they won, he could be head of homeland security or something. I would guess that Ambassador to the Vatican would be out.

    He will probably go back to his consulting, maybe partner up with Bo Deitel.

  4. He cannot pay his staff.
    People forget he was at the debates
    And he does better in places he hasn't campaigned.
    He spent a lot of money in both Iowa and NH. He just never caught on.

    "
    Stop Campaigning
    By now, Rudy and his people should've realized that what he really should have done was not campaign at all. Outside the warped twisted world of the Hardball studio, Rudy is a positively creepy dude, the kind of guy who you run away from as quickly as possible if you're unfortunate enough to get stuck talking to him at a party. I was watching a bit of him on CNBC last night and he's positively bizarre to watch.

    The memory of the Mayor of 9/11 might haveve won it for him, if only he'd stayed hidden in his crypt for all of these months instead of going out into the light."

  9. Ah, Waterloo at the polls...maybe, I have the feeling Rudy may have made a huge blunder. He was the leading candidate for a long time, and then he just hid out in Florida...but...I thought Craig was way-off months ago when he said McCain was still viable...this just after McCain went broke and the rats jumped off the Skeleton Key express.
    Now McCain is touted as the #1 choice among some talking heads.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    dnd...we are the forgotten minority now...McCain is gathering strength praising Bush and the war and people are buying it.
    I seem to recall Vietnam dropped off the front page long before the helicopters were shoved into the South China Sea in April, 1975. There, Congress had finally seen the light and snipped the purse strings.
    Here, we have a deranged lunatic charging for the White House gates with a scream to "keep troops in Iraq for ONE HUNDRED YEARS!"
    dnd, we may be sunk, ourselves. I am really depressed today that Bill Richardson had to give up the only true hope we had.
    Clinton: lies about ending the war....voted for it and always approves any and all funding...and is a hard-ass on Iran...supports Bush's delusions.
    Obama: vague...was against the war before he was for it....and stayed for it through every fund request. Will offer no plan with a promise for total removal of US presence.
    Edwards: The only hope left, and he can't yet get the steamroller streamrolling.
    All the repuggs: All but Ron Paul are gung-ho idiots.
He should apologize to Burnett on the air for that nasty little display and then he should hire a lawyer. I doubt this is the only time he's acted like this.   21. Ty,
    "sorry dnd.. he's very definitely a misogynist.."
    When I see his remarkable (or at least unexpected) respect for the insight of the female reporters he has on his Sunday panel show, it indicates to me that it would be unlikely that he's a misogynist.
    Now perhaps he goes after female guests more than male guest on Hardball. I couldn't say, because I quit watching Hardball long ago. Tweety's Hardball persona is he wants to be the bride at every wedding and the corpse at every funeral.
    What is even weirder is that when he's the guest (and center of attention) on someone else' show, he actually has interesting ideas.
    I think Dr. Phil should give up on Brittany Spears and visit Matthews.
  23. " i'm afraid all these distortions might be creating a clinton vs obama, sexist vs racist situation, it's begining to worry me. if an intra party fued is brewing."
    I fear that as well, nannymm. I think we're going to start to see things happen -- maybe memos, rumors --and they will be laid at specific campaigns' doorsteps. Karl Rove started his career that way. Then no matter what the truth the media cycle will repeat the horsecrap until no one can tell what's the truth of the matter.
    I also think that more and more, offhanded comments will be taken out of context and meanings distorted.
    I will say this for Joe Scarborough. When he first heard the "fairy tale" line and was told it reflected racism...he played the actual clip in full and said it was a bogus charge.
    (Speaking of MoJo, Mika Brzezinski tried to (kind of) refute Matthews idiot charge that Hillary never would have been elected if Bill hadn't cheated while Matthews hopped up and down and screamed today....but he shouted her down and she finally backed off. He really did sound unhinged. I do think he's been incredibly sexist all along....he's almost like Bill O'Reilly in the way he comes at women. Then, add his hatred of Bill and Hillary and watch out....)
  25. Think you're right Craig...However...If Romney manages a win in MI, that puts all the emphasis on SC for the following reasons:
    1) If Huckabee wins SC, that suggests the voters are still fairly uncertain in terms of direction for the party, and that Huckabee wasn't just a fluke in IA. Guliani might be able to use the "east coast retirees" as a base to compete...However...
    If McCain wins SC, or both MI and SC, its probably over for Romney, Guliani and Huckabee.
    2a) After living in the south for 20 years, I would suspect Romney probably looks like a real carpet-bagger to the natives, and they won't vote for him (probably doesn't even know the real name of the Civil War). Until they make football an Olympic sport, they could care less about his Olympic background.
    2b) Huckabee is having a hard time breaking into segments other than evangelical Christians. There's a lot of them in SC, but not as many in FL.
    2c) The real swing segment in SC and FL is going to be active and retired military. There's a ton of them in both states, and McCain is one of them. As McCain also appeals to Independents and some Democrats, you might even see people in this segment registering to vote Republican so they can vote for him.
    Bottom Line: For Guliani to stay alive until FL, he's got to hope Romney wins MI, Huckabee wins SC, and the people who would consider voting for him don't pay attention to the huge media push that his campaign is dead....
    Another Matthews point: last year he was a judge at a beauty contest. Even an incredulous Imus teased him!
    I want to tell Keith O. that while the first 45-minutes of his show are just fine, I cannot begin to understand the fixation on the Paris/Britney world. I mean, I'd like some fun gossip, but about someone I might be interested in for some original reason predating the public acting-out.   38. dnd -- Terrific article, except that it's an Economics paper, and they insist on using all those dreadful equations (:>)...His premise makes perfect sense when the voting is public (caucuses, legislative votes, etc.). But I'm not sure if it holds up under secret ballots.
    In my field, we define a market segment as a "like" group of people who have similar attitudes and beliefs, and behave similarly in a particular situation. In the case of active and retired military, they would have a similar background, at least in terms of their shared military experience.
    That would suggest that group of "like" voters would have more in common with someone running for President who had a similar background than someone who didn't (i.e., the questioning of Bill Clinton in the first campaign by Vetaran's groups because he hadn't served in the military).
    This segment wouldn't necessarily have to be a visable group like a labor union. In this case, the "like" group would be people with similar attitudes and beliefs, regardless of their public group affiliations.
    The two things I always tell potential candidates is that they need to answer two fundamental questions for voters:
    1) What will voting for you do for me? (which can be tangible or intangible), and
    2) How will the policies you propose positively affect my life?
    You can have all the public affiliations you like and still not get elected (i.e., Dick Gephardt in the Iowa Caucuses), but if you can touch a psychological nerve, you get a much wider cross-section of the population (i.e., the Obama message of making people feel better about themselves and the country through change).
  54. Jamie: I read the Clinton plans from your 3:42 link.
    I can just see her caving to the generals , maybe calling a press conference and saying "General Petraeus has brought it to my attention that we need a new Spring Offensive to rout out the newly aggressive Moqtada al-Sadr's soldiers"...something like that.
    She never addressed Congress with any words that signal withdrawal is really #1 with her...she never stood behind anything Feingold was saying before Feingold decided not to run.
    Yes, a huge reason the violence has dropped off around Fallughia and Baghdad...all of al-Anbar Province, really,. is because of the truce Moqtada al-Sadr has struck up with the transitional government in Iraq...a very uneasy game to play ...and how long will al-Maliki last anyway? He's already had severe issues with Bush43.
    Simply speaking, Hillary has an optimist's view of Iraq, blowing every little thing that is not a bloody disaster into a great, worthy achievement.
    I think she is mush more in tune with McCain than Feingold.
    To me, Feingold would have been a great president. No support. Kucinich would have been one for the books. Change? That man was ALL about change. Dismissed as a fool.
    Richardson: the latst to be squeezed like an orange...no money , no powerful donaters wanted him. Forced out.
    Edwards: Daily he promises to fight for the common man, and convincingly, too. He would shut out the lobbyists and govern with a fair hand. I love the guy; I love his wife even more. But he is the one with only "hope" going for him,.
    Clinton is the establishment, as defined by me, a man from the 1960's, as the true status quo. I just do not believe she really will change the policies regarding Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan...Pakistan...
    I can see her filling her Cabinet with old, worn-out people, too. I just don't see a sunny day.
    And Obama? Emerging with fresh advice form warmongering Iraq war lovers, he'll delay and reject his promises of change. Being unsure of so many matters, he would also seek advice from old-line politicians and just continue on. The only real "change" would be a new face.
    Kerry probably wants Obama in so he can advise, too. And that is a good thing.
  55. perception versus reality
    " Obama campaign got caught pushing a negative research memo aimed at the Clintons. It was headlined, “Hillary Clinton (D-Punjab)’s personal financial and political ties to India.”
    Obama’s campaign has an opposition research department; that’s routine for campaigns. Obama is merely doing political business as usual. At the same time a central theme for Obama on the stump and in speeches is that his campaign is different and that it’s “time to turn the page.”
    So how to reconcile hardball tactics with reality? Writes Lizza, “Part of the way the campaign deals with this bind is to separate the above-the-fray candidate from the dirty work of his operatives. Obama may be a once-in-a-generation politician, but his campaign is staffed with fairly conventional Democratic talent.”
    Doubts intensified last night over the nature of an alleged aggressive confrontation by Iranian patrol boats and American warships in the Persian Gulf on Sunday, after Pentagon officials admitted that they could not confirm that a threat to blow up the US ships had been made directly by the Iranian crews involved in the incident.
    Several news sources reported that senior navy officials had conceded that the voice threatening to blow up the US warships in a matter of minutes could have come from another ship in the region, or even from shore.
    That, my friends, is my South Carolina hangout when we visit sis-in-law! I'll be damned...McCain deserves another look...because that place has GREAT barbeque and sweetcorn and sweet tea...maybe old McCain ain't all that bad...nah!!
  60. *L* @ dex...you old flip-flopper you... ;-))
    Anyone who has an answer for this please chime in...
    I've been wondering what an Obama administration might look like. I can picture those who might surround Hillary or Edwards, but who do you think Obama would choose...cabinet, other high-level positions? And who would be his closest advisors? If any of the Jacksons (Jesse's family) are among them, that's a major detriment to him for me. I understand why Jackson Jr. is associated with his campaign...after all, he does want to be elected...but there are limits....
    Obama has already said he'd seek advice from experienced old timers. Change? HA !!!
    This is precisely why I call him a phony.
    BTW..Bill Richardson just left the door open for a veep job if Hillary asked him...but just a crack.
    I just don't think he knows if he'd take that spot or not...he truly loves NM and his horse.
  63. Good Evening!
    Here was Rudy's defense of his Florida Plan today-
    Giuliani defends Florida strategy
    Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani defended his plans to skip the other early contests and focus on Jan. 29 primary at a Coral Springs town hall on Friday. After the event, which kicked off a five-day, multi-city Florida campaign blitz, the former New York mayor explained the rationale for a campaign plan that banks on Florida and the rush of Feb. 5 primaries in exchange for poor showings in the other early states:
    "It's a strategy of lulling your opponents into a false sense of confidence. We'll win Florida. Look, everyone has their own strategy. If you look at all the candidates, there's no one strategy that guarantees success. We think this is the best strategy for us given our assets, our pros and cons, our ability to reach people, where we're going to reach people the best. You've got to make choices like that. It's an unconventional strategy, but I've never follow conventional wisdom before and it's always worked. And we think that Florida is the perfect place for us to sort of play out our entire campaign. All the themes in our campaign fit Florida. It's a big state. It's a big test. It's a test. It's a microcosm of the country in many ways. So we think that the person who wins Florida on Jan. 29 with a big advantage going into the Feb. 5 primaries."
  64. Dex,
    "And he sorta kinda hates her husband, that too...."
    Ya think?!!!! LOL! I'm sure Richardson would love to have Bill looking over his shoulder all the time.
    But you do bring up a serious issue: The debates should ask the candidates what style of BBQ they like. This would tell us a lot. Skinny Dennis can be excused when he says he likes bar-b-que'd tofu.
    ps. For the newbies here, if you think our arguments about politics are vicious, you should here us fight about BBQ!
  65. I might have to give Rudy another look, from this snipit in the Miami Herold's Political blog, he seems to be the only who will hopefully not try to legislate my personal life....
    Giuliani flunks family values in voter guide
    The Florida Family Policy Council, an Orlando-based group of religious conservatives, announced today that it is printing 2.5 million voter guides to distribute at roughly 5,000 churches across the state before the Jan. 29 presidential primaries. Activists are also circulating the guide via e-mail.
    The group does not endorse candidates, calling the guide an "educational report," but makes clear through litmus tests on certain issues which candidate is on its side.
    Among the Republicans, Rudy Giuliani predictably fared the worst, due to his support for abortion rights, stem cell research and an assault weapons ban, and his opposition to a federal ban on same-sex marriage. The only candidates that aced the voter's guide were were Mike Huckabee and Duncan Hunter.
    Hurting their scores: Fred Thompson's opposition to a federal marriage amendment, and Mitt Romney's support for an assault weapons ban.
    Nuh-uh. I heard the quote over and over and over. I don't have a dog in this fight, so no reason to race bait. I just thought that Bill screwed the Hill campaign again by trying to say "what the meaning of 'is' is" He really needs to let his wife drive. It ain't about him.
    It still wasn't a particularly wise statement, but it is more in line with everything I've been nagging about today.
    I think that ship has sailed.
    "
    “Some of the Obama people are clearly trying to use Hillary’s comments about Martin Luther King and distort them into something she did not say, which is outrageous,” said former Pennsylvania Rep. William Gray. “It’s a hot issue in South Carolina, and they’re spreading the word all over. I hope that the good senator will make sure that none of his people are doing that. We don’t need to have a debate about race or gender.”
    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0108/7845_Page2.html
    I think this is a fight the Clinton's cannot win. They should stop trying to explain and walk away.
    Posted by: Katherine Graham Cracker | January 11, 2008 6:12 PM
  73. Jamie,
    "He did not say the campaign or candidacy was "a fairy tale"."
    Correct. He said his voting record on Iraq was a fairy tale. The "give me a break" speech.
    Today he said: "First of all, it's not true. I have given speeches on Hillary's behalf in this campaign. I don't believe I've given a single one where I did not applaud Sen. Obama in his candidacy. He's not a fairy tale. He might win. I think he is a very impressive man, and he has run a great campaign. I was addressing a specific argument that had never been brought up in the debate.
    Sentence three is an outright lie, as is the last sentence. Sentence four is an attempt to recast what he originally said.
    I support neither Obama nor Hillary. My advice to Hillary's campaign is get Bill to STFU. The first rule of politics is if you're digging yourself into a hole, stop digging!
    Bills message may play to the disciples, but she's already got their vote. If the perception to the great unwashed is that it's bullshit, EVEN IF IT'S NOT, in politics perception is reality. And nobody knows that better than the Clintons.
    It's fine for him to sneer at another candidate, but you damn well better walk soft around him? That ain't gonna play.
    If voters start to feel this is about "race" and Obama is "the black candidate" it's not good because that is exactly what he started out trying not to be. It may sound exciting to say, like Larry O'Donnell effectivily did, that you better get behind the first potential black candidate against all others or you are no liberal....but I am telling you it is lunacy as a campaign strategy.
  79. Change Happens!
    Often missing from the Obama puffery is any acknowledgment that despite the rhetoric, Obama is all but a front man for Mayor Richard Daley's Chicago Democratic political machine. He has backed Daley for re-election, with City Hall awash in federal investigations, and he's got the mayor's media strategist David Axelrod massaging his message. Obama has supported other machine creatures. . . I don't know what Washington political writers call it. But back home, this is what we call transcending politics the Chicago Way.
    This week, the Chicago Sun-Times published a story about Obama writing letters to city and state officials on behalf of Rezko, so Rezko could receive more than $14 million in taxpayer funds to develop senior citizen housing. This included $885,000 in development fees for Rezko and partner Allison Davis, Obama's former boss. The paper didn't include the fact that Davis is also a buddy of Daley's. The Sun-Times did note that Obama insisted to the Tribune last year that in all the years he has known Rezko, "I've never done any favors for him." No favors? When you transcend politics and walk on water, I guess it all depends on what your definition of favor is.
  95. This Obama/letter/Rezko flap may be what I've been on about in relation to Clinton.
    Frequently politicians say things with a perfectly innocent meaning that then gets twisted all over the place (the fairy tale campaign mistatement just happened again on CNN).
    Politicians often do small favors for constituents with no idea of kick back or benefit that then gets twisted at a later date. Sometimes it is even done by staff over a signing pen signature just because the pol said, "Letter for Lou, sure. Say something nice".
    I'm quite willing to have most of these incidents be called petty with little evil intent or prejudice until some more concrete action appears or a chain of events shows it to be more substantial.
    If we start getting into tit for tat charges, it will do nothing for the party or our candidates.
  133. It seems people can't handle the truth, right?
    It was very clear to me that Bill Clinton was pointing out the exact fairy tale I have been beating the drum about for months.
    Obama just really doesn't want to end the war in the same manner Kucinich and Gravel do, or he wouldn't have voted to fund it , on all those votes, a perfect record...full speed ahead, Mr. Christian!! I was stunned to see how some people twisted President Clinton's words around to make it seem as though he was minimizing Obama.
    That was a clean hit...no penalty box time for Mr. Bill .
    I saw this subtle indoctrination when my sons were in Cub Scouts. At the big Pack meetings they'd sing little ditties that'd mention, for example, not wanting to be near the fat girl, or some such. I was appalled and could hardly believe it. I complained, but to what end? It's soooo subtle.
  141. It's fine that Senators Clinton and Obama (or their agents) are demanding that Senator Edwards drop out of the race. Here's why:
    1. It proves that they are against democracy, where all people, not just less than 1%, are entitled to vote for or against any candidate. It exposes them as mean-spirited and unAmerican, because they want to stifle the people in 48 states.
    2. It proves that they are greedy, controlling in a Busch/Sciavo kind of way and terribly scared. (And the natural reaction to this is, "Who is this person who scares and intimidates them? They must think he can outperform them, and that's why they want him out." So, in a way, they're causing the electorate to take a second look at Senator Edwards.)
    3. Their irrational, childish fits keep Senator Edwards in the news, something the shameful MSM refuses to do.
    4. As people do check into Senator Edwards' position statements, Web site, etc., they'll realize that many ideas the Hillary- and Barack-come latelys now espouse were originated by -- yes -- Senator Edwards. They'll realize that Senator Edwards is the one with the maturity, the wisdom and the understanding to lead, not the other two. For instance, they'll see that Senator Edwards was talking about the economy from the outset, and Senator Clinton only got on that bandwagon yesterday, finally realizing that maybe there are some people who aren't quite as well-to-do as the members of the Washington establishment.
    So, keep on braying, Barack and Hillary. You're only boosting Senator Edwards' chances each time you screech out in fear.
  143. I've been going on about this all day simply because no one and I mean no one on any of the news shows or in commentary has mentioned this. Whether you are for or against Hillary, it is important to listen to the words. The words are about our country, the problems, and the importance of this election.
    At some point your candidate may say some important words and the MSM will drown it out because of a hiccough, smirk, wince or sneeze. If we don't fight back against this trend, we might as well not bother to vote at all.
Every person that's ever picked up an instrument has had some musician that has made them say "that's what I want to do." So why no questions to Huck? Jaco Pastorius? Stanley Clarke, Phil Lesh? Ray Brown?
    I'm thinking that with the recent passing of Oscar Peterson he could have at least mentioned Ray Brown. WTF?
    Peterson wasn't just a genius. He was a giant. And a ground breaker. When Herb Ellis replaced Barney Kessel in the late 50's, people didn't know what to make of an integrated jazz trio. Did I mention that Herb Ellis is one of my guitar hero's? Right up there with Johnny Smith.
    But I digress. I really want Huck to tell us who influenced him musically!
    No, not Jimmy Smith, Johnny Smith. One of the greatest jazz guitarists ever. I remember my folks taking me to see him at a dive called "Shaners" in Denver is the early 60's. I couldn't believe that kind of music was possible to come from a human being.
    when I was a kid I played drums. I was never that impressed with Ringo. I was into Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich. Then maybe Keith Moon and Ginger Baker. But as I got older, I realized what a great drummer Ringo was. Perhaps not technically. Not flashy. But he really was a backbone for the type of music the Beatles were. And that's all that counts.
  174. morning all! great convo on here last night..makes for nice reading this morning..
    1) the Beatles - my 19 year old daughter talks about the Beatles in the present tense! that's how much of an influence they still have. When she was learning guitar (and she's quite good now) the first songs she learned were from a Beatles anthology book I've been keeping for ages.
    2) ringo - I agree.. at first glance Ringo doesnt seem all that special.. but the reality is they went nowhere until He was giving them the backbeat.. nothing wrong with a steady drummer... and he's so funny.. kept everything light.. when i was young all the girls swooned over Paul, not me.. RIngo was it!
    3) I hope the producers of WKRP and the music companies that own all those great songs used in the show make some kinda deal, because those edited versions just stink! For instance, the Russian Defector episode.. makes absolutely NO sense without Tiny Dancer playing at the end. Every time I hear that song, I hear that actor, with his Russian accent, saying "chhhold me closer, tiny dancer".
    OK guys, who was hotter: Jennifer or Bailey?
  175. Andrew Romano Stumper Interview: Mike Huckabee on Music
    How'd you get started with music?
    I started when I was 11 and I wanted a guitar really badly. I wanted my parents to get me one for Christmas and they really couldn't afford it. I'd kind of given up. Christmas 1966, I was 11 years old. Christmas morning, I open my Christmas present-and there it was! An electric guitar from the J.C. Penney catalog. Included an amp, a strap, everything. It was $99 for the whole thing. Took them a year to pay off. I played 'til my fingers bled.
    Why did you want the guitar in the first place?
    The Beatles were coming on! The Beatles came out, like, in late '63 and early '64, and from that time on I wanted to play. I guess every kid of my generation did. About age 12, it occurred to me, a lot of people were playing guitar but very few people were playing bass. So it occurred to me: if I took up bass, I'd probably always be able to be in a band. So that's what I did. Switched over to bass and I've been playing ever since.
  189. Matthews also appeared to argue that many viewers would be basing their decisions about the candidates on how, in Clinton's case, the candidate was dressed, or, in the case of the male candidates, how their spouses were dressed: "Some people are, by the way, just watching tonight. They stopped listening a half-hour in, and they noticed how pretty she is -- Michelle -- and they said, 'I like the fact he's [Barack Obama] got this pretty wife. He's happily married. I like that.' They like the fact that Hillary was demure, lady-like in her appearance." When NBC chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell interjected, noting "You're talking about two ... lawyers," who went to "Harvard and Yale," Matthews defended himself, saying, "Cosmetics are a part of this game."
    There are many different forms of misogyny. In its most overt expression, a misogynist will openly hate all women simply because they are female. Other forms of misogyny may be less overt. Some misogynists may simply be prejudiced against all women, or may hate women who do not fall into one or more acceptable categories. Entire cultures may be said to be misogynist if they treat women in ways that can be seen as harmful
    Sidney Blumenthal, longtime friend and senior adviser to presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y. was allegedly driving a rented car north on Concord Street at a speed of 70 mph when Nashua Police Sgt. Mike Masella decided to stop it at about 12:30 a.m. Monday.
