Mike Huckabee has had a lot of fun with macho celebrity endorsers, but perhaps he needs to get some famous women on board.
The latest Iowa survey showing Huckabee and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney basically tied for first also reveals a wide gender gap between the contenders for the Republican presidential nomination. Romney handily beats the former Arkansas governor among women (43% to 19%), but Huckabee is tops among men (34% to 15%) in the American Research Group survey of Iowa’s likely GOP caucus goers.
Martial arts star Chuck Norris and championship wrestler Ric Flair probably do little good among women as they stump for Huckabee -- but the testosterone effect, combined with his appeal among evangelical Christians, boosted him to the top of Iowa surveys. Romney’s male deficit looks worse when you consider that his 15 percent support is slightly behind Fred Thompson’s 17 percent support among men.

Imus can be heard in the Boston area on 96.9FM WTKK. It will be good to have you back with the I-Man. Huckabee was on Imus this morning and mentioned that Bernard was a prophet a couple of times but I was not sure what he was talking about. Did anyone catch that?

It's funny. When Imus zoned out and asked Richardson the same question twice this morning, it dawned on me that he's still a way, way, way better interviewer than Scarborough.

Craig,
No love fest with Imus tomorrow, please. It would be nice if he acknowledges your support, but getting you on in the first week already takes care of that. I hope you'll pick up where you guys left off, and have some good lines about what your parents did during Imus's sabbatical.
I haven't heard any Tassimo commercials yet, that might be an area you could pursue on your way to talking about the primaries.
Your appearance will be after I'm at work, so I hope MadMustard will have a way to capture it for us.

Craig has a good point about Huckabee's gender gap problem. Unfortunately, I don't think endorsements from women wrestlers, like Chyna or The Fabulous Moolah, are going to help him in that area.
If he didn't compete with them selling books, he might have been able to tap Laura Ingraham or Ms. Coulter for support.
I don't want to accuse those Republican women of voting on looks alone, but Mike isn't exactly a pretty face.

it is with great pleasure that I accept the burden and responsibility that comes with being the "Chia Head", I feel I have a mandate since I collected 100% of the votes(which admittedly is tempered somewhat by the fact that only two people voted) so my first act as "Head" will be to insure that all chia's come equipped with listening devices, followed by an unprovoked war with Ron Popeil and that Head On guy, followed by tax cuts and subsidies for folks to not grow chias.
I would also require that used chias be stored in Tucker Carlson's attic.

dnd,
Sorry, I wasn't clear - Edwards' slip is reflected in dropping into the MOE from a clear frontrunner status outside the MOE in many IA polls until the last 6 months - I am fully aware that the uncertainty regarding any candidates whose positions fall within the poll's MOE of another can't be considered above that other candidate and am just using the 1st, 2nd, 3rd nomenclature as a matter of convenience reflecting the poll results rather than true relative positions of the candidates and meant to indicate that he's not significantly behind them. Specifically, instead of polling 1st, with a lead greater than the MOE in prior polls, Edwards is now essentially even with Clinton and Obama. That better?
KC, thanks for that IA poll link - as I read it, Hillary is the only candidate in either party whose lead in the poll is greater than the poll's MOE. Assuming that poll's sampling is random, considering its size, it should be a fairly good reflection of the voters' preferences when it was conducted.

this poll is open to everyone, so have at it and I will post results tomorrow.
on a more serious note, I still say something earth-shaking will happen before the conventions next summer that will completely change the election.

pogo,
That's better. What I find interesting is the trends in the polls, because the IA voters are predominately undecided.
"Assuming that poll's sampling is random, considering its size, it should be a fairly good reflection of the voters' preferences when it was conducted."
The randomness is an assumption. Probably not valid, but it's all the pollsters have to go with if they want to give a margin of error. Actually, the random sample has to be independent and identically-distributed . So my take away from this is that from a statistical point of view, the polls shed little light.

Gig Harbor was spared the nastier effects of the storm, but I have many friends in Belfair (that's where I lived for many years, and where I worked for 29 years) whose homes are flooded or who are stranded because of water over roadways...deep water! There was a woman who called for aid last night - pregnant and going into labor - from Tahuya (by Belfair). Emergency personnel were unable to reach her last night because of the flooding; last I heard, they were still searching for her.

Bear:
Bernard said through I-Man's earphones: "President Huckabee is on the line now..."
I have been thinking what a dangerous situation we will be in if crazy John McCain gets elected.
He was thumping his chest, bragging how he was the only one who supported the Surge , and then he brags how it's working, and he took credit in a back-handed way for being the force that separated Rumsfeld from the picture.
He says we are on a very important mission in Iraq, and al-Queda would be claiming victory if The Surge never happened. He said if we had not Surged it would be tantamount to "surrender."
Hey, I'd like a new car and a new truck and a fancy big new house, too...but I can't afford it.
McCain thinks it's OK , wonderful even, to print more money and borrow 2 and a half trillion dollars to stay in Iraq...for what?
I guess he must not have thought about the fact that al-Queda in Iraq is a creation of FrankenBush...the whole situation of the destruction of a huge nation's infrastructure, and wanton killing of civilians , greatly overwhelms all the problems Saddam Hussein created.
McCain has blinders on...he sees temporary lessoning of violence in Iraq and he waves Old Glory in our faces.
I don't care how much these people love war and want to continue the "adventure" in Iraq, there's no money for it.
We are way past bankruptcy...$40,000,000 an hour more in debt...soon it will be a million dollars a minute.
There's no money for this and McCain can just go to hell.

Craig,
"Huckabee should get some famous women on board"????
Your old pals at CBS News have named a few who are already "on board" the Huckabee juggernaut -- ALL THREE OF THEM RAPED AND MURDERED BY MACHO MAN WAYNE DUMOND who Huckabee (far more than Jim Guy Tucker who preceded him) endlessly proclaimed as "railroaded" because of his 17 year old first victim's distant relation to Bill Clinton and who twisted the system to get him released.
The last two were raped and killed directly after Huckabee politicized and defiled the parole process and got the poor Mr. DuMond (whose claim of being "castrated" by agents of Clinton Huckabee never challenged) was released in 1999.
His shameful, ignorant and destructive violation of the parole process is fully detailed in a link contained within this article.
Wouldn't it be more effective for good journalists (and people) like you to stop looking at the Huckabee Hound Kartoon Karnival and the freaking polls (which are the Perez Hiltons of politics) and actually examine THE MAN?
I'd have to say that the reason Huckabee doesn't believe in evolution comes more from self-knowledge than any fundamentalist dogma.
Here's the CBS News link:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/12/03/politics/main3569614.shtml
By the way -- you all know what a juggernaut is, right? An unstoppable force that crushes everything in its path. Given Jesus H. Mikey's ignorance of everything except selling "charming" swampland in Florida to the press and to voters, he'll be GOOD at that. (He certainly wasn't a success as a preacher or as a governor. Or, for that matter, as a father.)
By the way... anyone see Missus Huckabee recently? I think she's playing gin in a locked closet with Missus Rochester.)
My hunch is that ol' I-man loves the Chucklebee for the same Imus-stated reason he endorsed Bush in 2000 -- as a source of great material. THAT'S why he worked to make Duhya and Cheney our leaders.
Anything for the fans, right?

Ed,
Imus absolutely endorsed Bush/Cheney in 2000. Which is when the real damage was done.
When he made his remark that Cheney was still a war criminal and Hillary Clinton still Satan, it was the first time I can remember that Imus didn't include Al Gore in his trinity as the Antichrist.
I think the remarks Imus made on Monday were lucid and full of character he has shown before. That's a significant part of him at the times he is reflective. But I have to agree with what Michael Harrison of Talkers said this week as well -- as a personality Imus exists mainly in the moment. Which was hunky dory when it was at its peak as a real comedy show in the 70's and 80's. It's just less viable for what espouses itself as serious political discussion.
Lots of people praise him as an interviewer. I think he is a good conversationalist.
I wish him well.
As someone involved in pediatric oncology as both a volunteer and a friend of a brilliant teenager in very serious treatment, I feel the Imus Ranch really provides unrivaled experience for the children it serves. It just is a very expensive proposition compared to both of its models -- Mr. and Mrs. Ham Jordan's Camp Rainbow and Paul Newman's Hole In The Wall Camps, both of which provide similarly exceptional experiences for many more sick kids for a lot less money.
To be honest both the Jordans and the Newmans/Hotchner put a lot less of their ego on the line in their camps and are much, much less obligated to corporate sponsors which was Imus' chosen instant recipe. (Remember Harrison's comment that he exists in the moment.) Imus' main emulation of Newman was in creating a for profit food company. It has had excellent food products and has evolved into a terrific green cleaning products line: what it always lacked (not really to Imus' surprise) was Newman's overpowering universal appeal. A loyal but limited fan base can't ever support anything on that model's level.
I hope that Deirdre Imus can relaunch her book with the new show.
Same wish applies for Craig's fine Machiavelli rewrite.
I also want to recommend that all the good people of Crawford's List look into the truly remarkable Big Apple Circus Clown Care Units. Again... remarkably good use of money (which is no surprise given that it is founded by the brilliant financier and philanthropist Alan Slifka) in helping to treat children in original and effective ways. (If you liked Danny Kaye's hospital scene in The Red Pennies, you'll love Clown Care.)

9/11,
You're right about 2000. He preferred Bush to Gore, even after Gore humbled himself in order to get some Imus air-time. He was wrong about Gore's sins, and while never admitting it, Imus at least realized by '04 that a change was needed.
For what it's worth, Imus says that he and his wife are both registered Republicans.
Harborwoman,

That sounds yummy, too, but I'd like your sausage, peppers and onions a lot.
I'm really ignorant about Judaism. What is Hanukkah?

*L* @ kgc...yes, I heard that on KO, too, and was chuckling....

I've come up with a campaign slogan for Huckabee.
Mike Huckabee '08: He may not kick ass....but his friends do!

Yes, Muppetheads, Biden was giving hell to Bush.
So was Richard Wolffe, KO. Rachel Madow..(is that her name?)
Tweety, everyone in the lineup tonight, even Abrams.
Bush is flat-lying to us...Gregory nailed him , then backed off...ABC got in a zinger at Bush , delivered by Jim Axelrod...even Faux Noise's softball had some steam on it...and I agree, this
finally destroys all US credibility.

Santa Claus told an elf and the elf tipped me off: I can finally join the modern age as I am getting a dvr this year for a holiday gift.
None too soon...my vcr finally totally bit the dust.
I went to the local stores...and sure enough...no longer can one buy a vcr without a dvd player...and we have three dvd players already...what to do until I get my dvr?
I had one option: venture into the Goodwill store for a used vcr. They had ten of them, from three dollars to ten dollars.
I bought the best , most modern, least scratched one. Of course, it had no remote.
All it has to do is record Imus for three weeks and then I'll donate it back to Goodwill.
Wish me luck...now to try it out.

...and don't tell me to just watch Imus live...I usually don't fall asleep until 5:00 A.M. !
Yes, it will be a grand reunion with I-Man and Craig tomorrow!
I will get up see that live ...but keep your fingers crossed...becuz I have not seen a bigger clusterfugg in TV production since...well...Imus in the Morning from The Imus Ranch , at times!
At one point Imus jerked out his headphones and we were told he was walking out , over to WABC , across the street, and was going to do the show with Lou Raffino in the engineers' crib.

Mitt Romney truly is a total tool. Just watched an interview of him by Greta Van Susteren, and there's no doubt in my mind that he simply lies/says what he thinks the voters he wishes to 'move' want to hear in order to get their votes.
He probably is pro-life...and the lie was to the voters of MA when he ran for governor. If his record is as spotlessly pro-life as he says it is, in terms of the legislation he signed in MA, that's the only logical conclusion.
On serving in the military, he says his sons made their own choices as young adults in an all-volunteer military...made no distinction about how much easier that is when you've grown up in a family that probably discourages military service, instead stressing all the opportunities the family wealth has to offer them. But, he says...he and his sons value those who choose to serve.
Says our current immigration laws should be enforced...then goes on to say, when asked if that would mean prosecution for employers who hire illegals, that they would be fined. Described how a series of fines would bring the employers in line. Right, Mitt! That'll take care of the problem. It's clear that business interests dictate his response on immigration.
And he ended with a patently fake platitude about how good it was of the Gideons to provide him reading material (meaning the Bibles they place in hotel rooms) while he's on the campaign trail. I may puke....
I think I hate being lied to more than nearly anything else in life...which is why I can hardly look at most of the Republican candidates...and even a few of the Dems. By and large, what passes for leaders in this country, ain't....

dnd,
Imus supported McCain until McCain lost. (He is with politics as he is with sports teams -- fickle, vain and narcissistic.)
He was loudly in support of Bush and loudly mocking of Gore. The only mercy he showed there was his undying love of Holy Joe Lieberman.
How do I know this?
I watched him daily. I still liked him then.

Murray Waas has a devastating history of Huckabee, the intense and ignored contact of so many of his victims with Huckabee and the serial rapist/killer.
Waas has been covering this since 2002 for the Arkansas Times.
This is not a casual incident: this is deeply characterological.
We've already had Bush look into Putin's eyes and see he was a good man. Huckabee was confronted with a mass killer and saw a poor Christian brother born on the wrong side of the tracks who got railroaded.
He is stupider than Bush. And less informed if that is possible.
The only reason why Huckabee is rising is because journalists are guffawing endlessly over his videos with Cheatin' Chuck Norris and Somewhat Sociopathic Ric Flair.
This I blame on their utter sloth as lap dogs -- and the damn WGA strike. Without Jon Stewart and crew to correct 'em and Stephen Colbert to mock them.... they just loll around like bimbos and stare at what is approximately funny ot them.
I am amazed that both a major network and a serious journalist were all over this today -- and that here it's jokes about fifth rate TV performers endorsing him and wondering where Pluckafee will find the support of them gals.
Somehow the timing of this story and the release of Sweeney Todd are really synchronous.

By the way all you journalism and Imus fans --
Won't you be happy if the media -- surely not Brokebank Huckabee who hasn't had the cash for a sandwich -- elects him as The Eight Years Later Edition Of The Likeable Guy You Just GOTTA Have At Your Next BBQ -- And Go Running With, Too?

9-11...we survived , so far, the worst administration in history, with the Holy Crusader as President.
Maybe we could survive 8 years of Huckabee, chucklin' , smokin' and jokin' all the way down the path.
But we can not survive John Mc Cain for more than a year before the wheels fall off the world.
BTW...glad to have ya back .
VB hasn't posted for a long time either.

Dexter and Jamie,
VB is doing remarkable work at art school. One of her teachers compares her work to Kathe Kollewitz's.
I think Huckabee is less self-aware (despite my evolution razz) than Bush is. His advisers as governor were below the level of even Jim Guy's -- same as with his campaign.
The only person who ever celebrated him as a governor was -- well, he's on the radio again. Ol' Mike was one of the worst administrators ever in any statehouse -- little understanding of governance but a love for glibness, performing with his cover band and easily distracted radio hosts.
I'll put it simply -- as governor Mike Huckaberry made Rick Perry look like he was Mario Cuomo. (In the interest of objectivity, Eliot Spitzer makes Mike Huckabee look like Mario Cuomo, too.)
About the only thing ol' Dingleberry Hound has going for him when it comes to not destroying the nation and the planet within 15 minutes is that Norman Podhoretz is NOT his foreign affairs adviser.

Dexter,
Did you ever visit Franken's PAC site before he announced? It was really effective on lots of levels.
Plus I think Franken is the only Democratic candidate who not only physically could beat the crap of both Chuck Norris and Ric Flair.... he possibly would.
He's more of an actual wrestler than Flair ever was.
However, Flair is more of a real financial expert than Ben Stein ever was. (Which isn't saying much.)
