Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney might get more than he bargained for in a new television advertisement attacking former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
In what amounts to the first direct-hit attack ad by a 2008 candidate against a party rival, the former Massachusetts governor takes aim at Huckabee's one-time support for giving college tuition benefits to the children of illegal immigrants.
But it's the introduction in the ad that could haunt Romney. The narrator says Romney and Huckabee are "both pro-life, both support a Constitutional amendment protecting traditional marriage." That leaves Huckabee the opening to counter-attack that Romney is a recent convert to the conservative side of such social issues.

OK, Huckabee's got the big Mo now- the head of keepthebrownpeopleout.org. (remember the Minutemen?) has given him his blessing. Now if he can just get Curtis "keep the black boys from hassling the white women" Sliwa's backing, he should get all the hate groups to fall in line for him.

I watch the damn shows like a fundamentalist goes to church, and for a long time I've been thinking that what I'm seeing on CMS and Hardball is SEVERE Hillary&Bill phobia - even outright bashing. But he always does it with the smile, like he's slipping the knife in between the ribs.

RE Giuliani and Thompson flameouts: Where do you suppose the moderate GOP vote goes this year?
C-Span ran a Peter Hart focus group meeting with central Virginia Republicans about a month ago; although many knew little about Thompson, they seemed to be holding out hope he might rescue them from having to vote for rest of field...
You would almost feel sorry for the GOP voters except that many of them would vote for GWB again if it would keep a Democrat out of the White House.

We have about 3/4 inch of ice covering everything and did finally get an inch or two of snow late morning. I heard the airport was supposed to open up at 11:30 a.m. but don't know if it did or if it mattered based on regional weather problems. From Andrew Sullivan site -- 6-1/2 minutes of CBS with Cronkite Christmas Eve broadcast 1971.
http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2007/12/christmas-with.html
Footage of Christmas at the White House with Richard Nixon looking human with his "train" answer, and interacting with his dog.
Then: Christmas tree shortage in Hungary
Later: opaque commentary by Eric Severaid, hoping for an "aristocracy of the plucky."
Last at about 5:10 in : long pan of the CBS evening news crew -- such a male bastion then. Maybe 3 women posed behind Cronkite, looking shy about being there.
Not mentioned once in clip: Viet Nam.

I'm not cruel---his Alzheimer's hadn't set in yet.
While I was back in time I'd go back and waterboard Nixon in late December , 1972, just before he bombed the Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi. I'd use several jugs of water. I'd just do it for fun, as we all know it ain't torture. Mitt told us so.

Just as I am sure that most men who lust after Humvees have little dicks, I am almost sure that Matthews' diabetes has rendered him impotent. He hates sexualized men.
I wouldn't say this sort of thing if Matthews himself didn't feel comfortable arm-chair shrinking anyone who comes along.....

Wow you must have the inside tract on info regarding Tweety's anatomy. I'm not sure that's something you want to get around!

Huckabee Questions Mormons' Belief
LIBBY QUAID | December 11, 2007 06:46 PM EST |
WASHINGTON — Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee, an ordained Southern Baptist minister, asks in an upcoming article, "Don't Mormons believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?"

Salt Lake City, UT – Today representatives of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the LDS church) angrily denied that Rudolph - the Red Nose Reindeer - was a practicing Mormon. According to archival Church documents, Rudolph was believed to be a Baptist. One representative interjected, “We are prepared to lock horns on this issue.”
The announcement was a rebuttal to Huckabee’s claim that because of Rudolph’s Mormon faith, “all of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names,” even to the point of, “not allowing him to play any reindeer games.”
Huckabee concluded, “He is definitely not the kind of reindeer that America needs to guide our sleigh.”

Craig,
I was disappointed not to see you on SpitBall tonight - you're usually the bright spot, even though Tweet rarely allows anyone to answer his "questions"(even Frank Rich, whom I thought Tweet was going to fellate). I've gotten used to watching you chew your tongue in frustration (hoh, boy! if looks could kill!) as he poses "questions", then walks all over your attempt to answer.
So, I wonder - has he now taken to stomping on your ankles as well?

harborwoman: AH! I just watched "Journeyman" on NBC rewind at NBC dot com.
Kevin McKidd is a great actor ; he'll turn up somewhere soon.
Only 2 Journeymans left, forever.

dex...Glad you were able to find Journeyman and watch it! I'd have invited you and the missus over to watch my TiVo'd copy, but that's a heckuva long way to go for a teevee show. Can't believe they're so stupid that they're abandoning our show! Short-sighted teevee execs....
I meant to watch Saving Grace last night, but forgot. Hope I can catch it on computer...or somewhere. Jamie says it was really good....

Oh Hi, Harborwoman!
I have been sending baby congratulations out to a radio website...a cast member and his wife announced today on the show...rather odd ...I thought it was a bit, because Dan Vasser's brother's doctor-wife told Dan's brother she was pregnant on Journeyman the night before the radio show aired...but I guess it's true...I guess !

Dex are you watching soap operas?
Posted by: Brian In NYC | December 12, 2007 12:57 AM
dex...WHAT!?! Actually, I think I may understand what you said...which is scary all by itself.... I didn't realize Dan's brother had married the doctor, making her a doctor-wife. When did that happen? I still need to watch the last episode, so maybe that will get me caught up...or maybe the actress is pregnant in real life, and I'm more confused than I realize....
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I've discovered that I do have Saving Grace on Tivo...so I'm happy. I didn't miss her date with the atheist, while her angel hovers nearby....

When I die, I want to go peacefully, like my grandfather did. In his sleep. Not yelling and screaming like the passengers in his car....
