Might Joe Lieberman be interested in another shot at the vice presidency? If so, the former Democrat turned independent Connecticut senator has two chances.
Endorsing John McCain’s bid for the Republican presidential nomination on Monday naturally provoked speculation about a replay of Lieberman’s 2000 bid for the number two slot under Al Gore -- but this time for the GOP ticket instead of the Democrats.
But Lieberman pointed in another and more intriguing direction during television interviews about his endorsement of the Arizona senator. He went out of his way to note, if not promote, the idea that New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, a former Republican who recently turned independent, might make a third-party run.
If Republicans go hard right with someone like former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee for a nominee, Bloomberg is expected to seriously consider jumping in. A Bloomberg-Lieberman ticket as a third way for voters could be a showstopper, a bipartisan mix with Lieberman adding the foreign policy expertise that Bloomberg lacks.
Comments
I don't see McCain asking Lieberman to join him on the ticket...he stated yesterday that Joe was far too valuable in the Senate....yuk.

Edwards was good on the Today Show, despite what I thought was a generally nagative interview with David Gregory (who I usually like). Gregory brought up the fact that Obama has accused Edwards of taking lobbyists money....and also that people might not consider Edwards authentic because of his wealth. So would he have questioned FDR's sincerity because he was from an old rich family. Or is it just people who are born poor and do it on their own who are suspect?

mornin' all.
Last night, in a rare moment when he wasn't bashing Hillary and her supporters here, Brian wrote:
"Frosting comes in a can? When did they start doing that?"
Answer, in my experience since at least the mid 70s - and as a deep munchies snack itain't half bad.
Brian, I have one question - What the hell kind of doper are you?
And don't knock microwave cupcakes until you've tried them stoned.
So if anyone wonders why the founding fathers put the establishment clause in the Bill of Rights, read all the shit that's in this blag and just about every other political blog on the net - half of what's being discussed is the religion of the candidates and the different campaigns' use of it against their opponents - and all the while we're stuck in Iraq and the Senate is considering whether and how to allow the government to continue to violate the constitution and whether to give a pass to the telecoms for breaking our laws against listening in on us. Folks, I know most of us really don't care what religion if any our presidential candidates, and president for that matter, have, and we spend a lot of time arguing about the different dems' positions on issues that mean something, but good god, could we drop the religion shit? Of course getting the candidates to leave it alone will be pretty tough. And for god's sake, Bob Kerry wasn't bashing Obama for having Muslim in his heritage - it just isn't in him. What the hell will the response be if someone who is aligned with the Clinton camp mentions that Obama is black? Race baiting?
Posted by: pogo
| December 18, 2007 8:40 AM
patsi, we certainly would question FDR's sincerity because of his background today - it's a different time. Hell, Kerry had to endure it, and he just married into the Heinz fortune. Democrats didn't have to take a vow of poverty to get credibility in the 20s and 30s, and didn't have to show their union cards, talk as if race, religion and sexual orientation didn't matter to them to be considered real democrats. They just had to have good ideas about getting the country through the debacle of the great depression and have enough money to run their campaigns.

Posted by: Jamie | December 18, 2007 8:59 AM
jamie - Kerry has explained himself essentially until he's blue in the face - he did mean it as a positive comment about Obama. Apparently the underlying facts aren't right, but the folks bashing him for the comments are out in left field. And the comments about his name, well, it's his name and he'sbeen lampooned about it from day one ofhis candidacy by the RWNM, led by bloviator in chief Limpballs. It IS a problem for him - not among people who give half a rational thought to it, but a problem among those who don't - how dare Kerry note that. Oh, right, he's endorsed Clinton,so he's fair game.

Huckabee covered up his son's torturing of a dog.
LA Times:
Citing new reporting and old stories, Newsweek reports that Huckabee's then-17-year-old son was implicated in the torture and hanging of a stray dog while working as a Boy Scout camp counselor in 1998. David Huckabee was fired from the job, but Newsweek reports that Huckabee, then governor, leaned on law enforcement officials to squelch a request by a local prosecutor for investigative help in the case. No charges were ever filed, and Huckabee denied any inappropriate actions.

Arianna Huffington at Huffingtonpost.com (which is about 100 times more insightful than most of the politcal crap you see on cable TV.)
"So why is the Republican establishment suddenly in a state of near-apoplexy about Mike Huckabee? Shouldn't they be happy? They've been cultivating evangelicals and fundamentalists for 30 years. Now they finally have a candidate who's truly part of the movement. So what's the problem?"
"Actually, that is the problem. The evangelical crowd was fine when it was just a resource to be cynically exploited every few years in demagogic anti-gay get-out-the-vote campaigns. But now the holy-rolling monster the GOP's Dr. Frankensteins have created has thrown off the shackles, fled the lab, and is currently leading in Iowa. And the party doesn't know what to do. "

tweety is insane
On the December 17 edition of MSNBC's Hardball, host Chris Matthews claimed: "Every day I pick up the paper and there's another quote out there from somebody who's a wannabe, saying whatever the Clinton people told them to say apparently." Moments later, Matthews asked Financial Times U.S. managing editor Chrystia Freeland: "[A]ren't you appalled at the willingness of these people to become castratos in the eunuch chorus here or whatever they are?" Matthews made the comment in the context of discussing endorsements of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) and specifically that of former Sen. Bob Kerrey (D-NE), who made reference following a December 16 campaign event to, among other things, Sen. Barack Obama's (D-IL) middle name."
he should be fired.

tweety's diabetes has obviously made him impotent.
Posted by: Katherine Graham Cracker | December 18, 2007 10:18 AM
On the Huckabee son/dog story:
obvious points: camp operators probably would have given the 2 teenage boys a break if their story appeared plausible at the time. That they fired the son of a governor, rather than letting the issue go, says a lot.
Christianity is a religion that professes mercy and forgiveness once one confesses one's sins and truly repents.
That work was apparently never done in Huckabee case, by junior or senior.
Had son come clean and apologized and said he greatly regretted his actions; that he was young and did something in concert with another teenager he would never have done alone (one C List poster alluded to kids acting different in groups than alone -- that's a known phenomenon), and then volunteered on behalf of animals or some other charity, I think kid would have gotten a pass when issue comes up again years later.
BUT you have a political father who feared the public reaction to his son's misdeed -- and would not acknowledge it as a transgression, and preferred others take the fall for his son's misdeeds.
So story comes back to haunt, once Huckabee Sr. is in national spotlight.
I have some sympathy for the son; he sounds like a possibly troubled youth, and he has been introduced to the American public as the kid who hung a dog and blamed it on mange. (Introduced to those who'd not previously heard about his taking to a public airliner with a loaded gun; no word that he's an air marshal.)
But neither of them went for the route of Christian acceptance of misdeeds, repentance and atonement.
They took the political route: deny, deny, deny.

nash, Arianna is very often spot on in her analyses, and her current comment on the Right reaping what it's been sowing for 30 years to win elections is no exception. KNowing that Krauthammer is apoplectic about Huckleberry's rise is enough for me.
And you have a good one going about Huckleberry's son. In the south (isn't Arkansas part of it?) we didn't kill dogs who got the mange - we bathed them and put medicine on the spots and in their food. I can still smell the sulfur. And if you're gonna kill a dog to put it out of its misery - my dad had to do that to one of ours that got hit by a car and was suffering but not dying - you either take it to the vet to have it put down, or do something that causes a quick, relatively painless death. Dad shot our dog. You don't hang them. In fact, except for what I've seen in movies, I'd never heard of anyone hanging a dog, cat, bird, fish, turtle or any other pet. The real issue is whether Huckleberry suppressed the investigation and possible charges that might have resulted.

I dunno, KGC....I think Catholic boys school affected both Tweety AND Russert. (So does my friend, an Italian/Catholic Republican guy here in Twangtown. This guy, by the way, still thinks Barbara Jordan should have been president. Not a bad idea, either!)
Matthews' use of this line is just disgusting: "[A]ren't you appalled at the willingness of these people to become castratos in the eunuch chorus here or whatever they are?"
I've noticed that a LOT of Repub men use that kind of language. Remember a few years back when Grover (GAG) Norquest was saying Bush and the Repubs had "neutered" the Dems like dogs? (That kind of talk makes me think the speaker is definitely a Cheeto dick.) And now of course, Cheney (who probably hasn't had sex in decades) just recently talked about Pelosi castrating the Dem men? God 'A Mighty, if there was ever a classic castrating woman, I gotta believe it would be Lynn Cheney.
At the other end of the Republican spectrum is Betty Ford, a true feminist with whom I worked with in Colo on the Equal Rights Amendment. I cannot say enough great things about this woman.

... MNSBC host Tucker Carlson, has repeatedly made castration comments in reference to Clinton. On the March 20 edition of MSNBC's Tucker, Carlson said: "[T]here's just something about her that feels castrating, overbearing, and scary." ... Rush Limbaugh has repeatedly used the expression "testicle lockbox," claiming that Clinton has one.
... Matthews previously asked on the November 13, 2006, edition of MSNBC's Hardball, if Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), the then-presumptive speaker-elect of the House of Representatives, was "going to castrate [Rep.] Steny Hoyer [D-MD]" if Hoyer were elected House majority leader in the 110th Congress.

kc, catholic schools are very hard to pigeonhole - some are best known for their discipline, some for their academics, and some for nothing much more than uniforms. Nowadays, you're as likely to go into a catholic school and find no nuns or priests there, and only rare religion classes as you are to find the ruler-toting nuns that many associate with them. Little Pogo goes to one, hates the uniform, likes his teachers, and (I hope) isn't exposed to a lot of the bad stuff I hear about the local schools around here, and as anachronistic as this sounds is very respectful to the staff at the school, and that respect seems to be generalized outside of school. Although I don't think he learns as much as he should, his nationally normed tests suggest otherwise, so I can't complain too loudly, even though as you know, I don't buy the religion bit.

*** Address 8042CCA2 base at 80400000 , DateStamp 3ad7ad60 - ntoskrnl.exe
Any ideas how to recover from this? I can not get it to repair and any choice I make goes to this BSOD.
I can see the drive when set as slave to another, however I am unable to remove any of the HP Printer install at all. Can not find them nor short of wiping the drive clean and doing a fresh install which I really don't want to do. This is my supervisors computer.
Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

Gotta ask Craig about this one. Do political commentators need wax removal for their ears? Andrea Mitchell just did it with the Kerry comment, but I've heard others doing it to virtually all candidates.
They will play a cut of some kind. It is totally understandable what the person making the comment is saying or means to say (whether you agree with it or not). The commentator will then turn around and use some opponents talking point to ask a question even though the talking point is the exact opposite of what you just heard.
I know they need to be provocative and stimulate conversation, but it strikes me as inherently dishonest.

I am unable to get to a logon screen at all and this happened after he installed the HP All in One Printer and had printed something while online.
When he shut down and rebooted later that day the BSOD showed up. Short of reloading the O.S. and since I feel fairly certain that its a conflict with the printer trying to use a lower resource I'm not sure if there is anything else I can do except use it as a slave and copy all the files he wants on to a flash drive to replace later after reinstalling the O.S.
By the way he is running Windows 2000 Pro. Also can or is it possible to reinstall on top of the current O.S. and leave his data files intact on the box without losing them? I'm not really sure about this.
Thanks for the links and I did check them out.
Check back after lunch.

On my way out to lunch. The printer is not connected. He uses this box at home for work and he has an air card which is usb and he really messed this one up.
I'll try later and thanks again for the help.
God Bless.
PS: Just a quick hello to all my friends here at Craigs place. I say him one day on tv and he looked like he was feeling no pain. He must have some good meds for his ankle. LOL...LOL...LOL...
God Bless all.
