Seizing on the gap in Barack Obama’s health insurance plan, Hillary Rodham Clinton has found an issue that could stick with liberal Democrats who are weighing their options in the party’s presidential nomination race.
The Obama camp handed Clinton an opportunity with a television ad now running in New Hampshire that claims his plan would “cover everyone.” Late this morning Clinton’s campaign manager, Patty Solis-Doyle, got on the phone with reporters to say the Obama ad is "is demonstrably false and it should be taken off the air." She has a point.
Ever since proposing his health insurance plan, Obama has struggled to define its reach, once calling it “virtually universal.” But it does stop short of Clinton’s plan (she claims Obama's proposal would leave 15 million Americans uninsured). And Obama saying in an ad that his blueprint “covers everyone” provides Clinton an opening to keep after him.

Hello there.
C-Span 1 is airing DNC fall meeting live all day; Richardson, Edwards and Obama spoke this morning.
Meeting resumes at 1:30 with Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, Bill Ritter (convention host), Dennis Kucinich, Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton.
Dodd could not attend.
First 3 speeches were excellent, and they're running the meeting snappily.
Would expect C-Span might rebroadcast over the weekend, but if you have a chance to catch it live...

Look, Hillary's taken beaucoups of bucks from Big Healthcare and Insurance.
Yes, she will likely come up with some kind of plan (and Americans are past ready for better healthcare access) BUT who knows if it will actually provide better and more efficient services or just enroll more people at the insurance "providers" trough.

from Digby:
The chairman of the Republican Party of Arkansas called Wednesday for state Sen. Denny Altes, R-Fort Smith, to apologize for e-mail comments attributed to the Senate GOP leader by a television station.
[...]
In the e-mail on the television station’s Web site, the message attributed to Altes states that he’s for “sending the illegals back but we know that is impossible.
“ We are where we were with the black folks after the revolutionary war. We can’t send them back and the more we p *** them off the worse it will be in the future. So what do we do,” the e-mail states. “I say the governor needs to try to enforce the law and sign the letter of understanding... and at least we can send the troublemakers back. Sure we are being overrun but we are being outpopulated by the blacks also. What is the answer, only time will tell.”

These aren't health care plans. They're health care triangulating. And as dog said, bones to the health and insurance industry.
Edwards, Kucinich and Richardson have health care plans.

dog, as long as the legal climate for malpractice is what it is, no plan designed to pull more Americans into covered healthcare can hope to provide better and more efficient services. A report came out this week talking about the increased cancer risk, especially to children, of CT scans that aren't medically necessary. Those scans are done largely as defensive mediicine to avoid a failure to dianose and treat suit if there is ANY suggestion that an injury/illness exists that might be revealed with a CT scan instead of other, less harmful methods. That's just one example - the other, less harmful,but not medically necessary tests are also done at ridiculously high rates in no small measure to avoid liability for failure to diagnose. Any such medical prograam willhave to get through Congress, and is unlikely to look much like anything the candidates are saying they would support anyway by the time the senators and congressment in the pockets of big med and big pharma get done with it.
A digression to the prior thread - Bills comments about his lack of support initially for invading Iraq are only the kind of apparent contradiction that the media makes hash of these days. Assume he did oppose going into Iraq - he wasn't openly critical of Bushco back then, more or less taking the position other former presidents have by not speaking ill out loud of his successor. Bill certainly knows the importance of backing the Pres in military decisions, and he did that after the decisions were made and implemented. Ain't no different than supporting the troops but opposing the war. IMHO, this is just a dishonest effort to try and discredit Bill and make the mud thrown at him stick to Hillary.

There are audio/video/text reports of BC back then saying he supported the war in Iraq. So it's not dishonest. Bill lied. Wouldn't be the first time...

I don't agree with dnd . dnd, you make it sound like Bill lied constantly.
The truth is, Clinton followed 41's lead and never went into Baghdad and blew the country up.
As a former prez, his role changed 100%.
It was not his place to go and scream and pound his shoe on the table and say we shouldn't go into Iraq.
He did say we should not invade Iraq , at least until Blix, et al. were finished.
Do remember this: Bush rushed to war before Blix was done, because he was determined to go into Iraq before he stole the 2000 election.

dnd: I remember when Clinton bombed Iraq. That was not in any way close to what Bush did, is it?
Shock and Awe started a war that has killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis by now, destroyed the infrastructure of the country, and ruined the US miliitary's strength, and destroyed the morale of the Reserves & National Guard's strength and readiness.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Brian: Al Gore and Jimmy Carter AND Bill Cinton were opposed to Shock and Awe and the aftermath...the continuing of the drain of US resources in financing this war.
As a recently retired president, though, he no longer had the stage...if he called news conferences people would just say "sour grapes" and MSM would call him a damn old fool...you know how it goes.
CONGRESS should have stopped Bush! People like Hillary Clinton have to be held accountable for the carnage, and Obama, too, for constantly funding it.
Bill Clinton had no semblance of a bully pulpit in 2002-2003.
On a minor note, I am still waiting for Bill Maher to say he was wrong for applauding Bush right after Shock and Awe, after saying it was wrong to march to war, Maher said "I have to admit it...I was wrong, Bush was right!" I have detested that weasel Maher ever since.
The evils of socialism: Candians have better health care than we do, at lower cost.
The wonders of capitalist market efficiencies: every year the cost (% of GDP) of U.S. health care goes up, and the quality goes down. Meanwhile, the health care corporations declare rising profits and the corrupt slobs in Congress have high-quality 100% free govt-financed health care.
And the dummies who keep voting Republican really believe that we have "the best health care on Earth."
Dog, dnd
I haven't read Clinton's healthcare proposal, but she did say a few days ago that it was similar to France.
Unlike Britain that has full government healthcare paid via taxes, several of the European countries do have "universal" healthcare but still have insurance companies. The way that it works is that the companies must negotiate with the government for a basic insurance policy. All companies must offer this policy and everyone must be enrolled either in that policy or another one that might provide other services (i.e. private physician specialist). All employers must cover their workers or pay the government to cover under the govt paid plan. If individuals are unemployed, they are covered by the government (similar to medicare).
It is considered a middle position that does not drive health insurance companies out of business immediately, though more and more people steadily transfer to the government as payer plan.
When Obama says "Mandated" it is this aspect of forcing everyone to be covered by at least the basic plan through personal payment, company payment or government payment.
"When Obama says "Mandated" it is this aspect of forcing everyone to be covered by at least the basic plan through personal payment, company payment or government payment."
That's Hillarycare.
Neither Obama or Hil's healthcare is much of a plan and benefits the for-profit insurance companies. Skinny Dennis would keep the govn't out, but make insurance companies not-for-profit. A good start. Not enough, but a good start.
Hillary and Bill are suposed to both be here tomorrow for events, but that isn't looking too promising either.
I noticed someone was looking into sparkling wines. This month's Consumer Reports rates them.
Personally though, if you are looking for a tasty sparkler that is also inexpensive, I highly, highly recommend Domaine Ste. Michelle. I believe they are from the Columbia Valley in Washington State, but their wines are delicious.
Dog's eye view - I don't know what they would do about bad weather on caucus night. I suppose if it was bad enough they would have to cancel and try to reschedule. It would be a monumental task to find all the caucus locations for another day/night. We're are struggling this year with the change in dates. It would have to be pretty bad since the caucus locations are fairly close to the precincts. For instance, my caucus location is generally 2 blocks away at the High School but they haven't announced locations yet. I can usually walk so hope that is the case this year.
If there is a swarm of locusts, I think I might have to go to the Republican caucus and vote for Mike Huckabee. I'm thinking he would be the only one to save us from eternal damnation. Oh I am so going to H*ll....
I cannot docu-proof this, but a radio caller said Journeyman is cancelled and NBC just wants rid of it, quickly.
Only g'dam show I watch..OF COURSE everybody else hates it, 'cept me & Jamie, and it looks like Harborwoman...
of course, this same caller said John from Cincinnati was un-cancelled, but that , I believe, is a lie..."John" 's actor is now on "Friday Night Lights", or was, and Bruce Greenwood (Butchie's dad) is a hot actor and has many job offers.
Local news just said the Hillary office in DSM is closed tonight. I don't blame them. There are lots of crazies out there and copy cats are not out of the realm of possibilities. Now they can all attend the Gov's Christmas party. The Hillary workers I mean, not the crazies.
I haven't been in a position to watch the screen, but was glad they went to a one minute delay. Knowledge of that seemed to back Mr. Matthews away from his need to tell people exactly what they were seeing on the screen. Chris must go to all athletic contests live, or listen on radio. He's never learned the art of letting the picture tell the story. But to be fair, there are a lot of other lessons he hasn't learned either.
Okay, I'm finished picking on Matthews for tonight, but it was fun while it lasted.
Just checked the youtube re Erin Burnette/Monkey in the MIddle and there are pages and pages of comments from rightwingers demanding she be fired and calling other people libtards. The 30% out in force.
They are so damn mean. Guess there's keyboard rage along with air rage and road rage. These maroons are sheer rage.
