Huck and Chuck Get Tough on TV

| | Comments (38)

For his first television advertisement, Republican presidential contender Mike Huckabee has come up with a "tough" sell that gets a laugh, using Hollywood macho man Chuck Norris to deliver the former Arkansas governor’s pro-gun, anti-tax message. Huckabee also appears on screen several times during the 60-second spot paying tongue-in-cheek homage to the martial arts star.

"Chuck Norris doesn't endorse, he tells America how it's gonna be," Huckabee says in the ad.

Set to begin airing tomorrow in Iowa -- where Huckabee is gaining strength -- the spot manages to be a lot more entertaining than most political commercials. "There's no chin behind Chuck Norris' beard, only another fist," Huckabee says.

Having some fun in his first advertisement is just what you’d expect from Huckabee. He is one of the few candidates in this race who truly seems to be enjoying himself on the campaign trail. And that also happens to be smart politics -- if the candidate isn't having fun, nobody else will.

  7. More like the movie Chuck and Buck and really more like the media obsession with Michael Steele
and by the way now that Mel Martinez has resigned who is the chairman of the goopers.

The Hucksterbee rise is a joke and he is not a nice person and no real investigative reporting has been done about him. Where is the fat camp where he has stashed his wife and two sons. I understand they are not allowed in Iowa because of the availability of pork products.

  8. Most See Democrats Favorably
Despite a slew of recent polls findings Americans unhappy with Congress, a new USA Today/Gallup poll finds that the majority of Americans still hold a favorable opinion of the Democratic Party. 54% of respondents viewed Democrats favorably with only 37% holding an unfavorable opinion of the party. The Republicans faired far worse, receiving a favorable opinion from only 40% of Americans while being viewed negatively by half.

These numbers, should they stay consistent, could set up another bad election cycle for Republicans in 2008.

  9. "Huckafacts"? Good, Lord. It's like an Andy Samburg digital short. How is SNL gonna top this ad? Mike Huckabee, satirizing politics so you don't have to. Ohhhh, I smell Gravel & Steven Segal.

  16. No doubt, Republican lapdog and talk show host Sean Hannity is elated that Robertson has endorsed his Rudy, and pro-choice Rudy is no doubt happy to accept accolades from pro-lifers. But even pro-lifers must admit that when it comes to the life issue, is it not amazing that such "men" seem to have no problem wagging their fingers at young women forced to make difficult decisions, yet give our president a free pass, as his unwinnable war continues to take numerous lives with each passing day? For all the love Hannity, Robertson, and their ilk pretend to have for unborn children in this country, it apparently doesn't bother them one bit to kill both women and children in other countries, so long as it is a Republican who is pulling the trigger.

One wonders what Christ himself would think of such men?

While I have my suspicions, I personally would never commit the blasphemy of pretending to speak for God, although Robertson seems to have the Almighty on speed dial — and yet he somehow still insists on continuing his lifelong effort to send his faith, his country, and quite possibly his soul straight to hell.

U.S. Cites Drop In Attacks Since Buildup in Iraq; Bombs Kill 20

BAGHDAD, Nov. 18 -- U.S. officials on Sunday declared a 55 percent drop in attacks since the launch of an offensive nine months ago, while bombs across Iraq killed at least 20 people, highlighting the country's continuing security threats.

The dead included three children who were playing soccer when a roadside bomb exploded at a playground near Baqubah, 35 miles northeast of Baghdad.

  23. Obama seems to be losing it a bit, first the over reaction to the Novak blind item, and then arguing with a 70 year old woman about border issues.

I like his views, but he needs to go back to campaign school for a few years.

    Posted by: Jamie | November 19, 2007 9:54 AM

  24. I hate that Novak is getting press out of this non-story. Obama should have let it go since it has only made him look weaker and less likely to defend himself against attacks from the Rovian Republicans as far as I am concerned.

On a happier note I am off to see what would have been my real choice for President if he had run, Wes Clark. He is in the state today stumping for Hillary and I never miss a chance to have a chat. He is a very fascinating man.

  25. "There was a bit running about Huckabee wanting to arm kids in the inner city? What was that about?"

It was typical Matthew, hearing only what he wants to hear. Somehow Matthews took Huckabee's statement on his 2nd amendment position to mean he was in favor of arming teenage gang-bangers, and other criminals.

  26. Hill's people baited Novak's hook and like a novice Obama swallowed the hook, line and sinker. Hill's people are chumming the waters, and sooner or later they'll get their story of Obama out there using a number of different venues. In the end Obama will find himself constantly trying to knock down these nameless attacks, while Hill goes on her merry way. She is so very smart.

  27. Or it could be that Novak just made the whole thing up......what would you exect from someone as Jon Stewart so ably put it is "The douche bag of liberty."

while waiting in line to purchase wild bird food at my local feed supply store this past weekend..... I noticed they had a tv on just above the counter...... they had on RFD-TV..... the channel was showing a cattle auction and had on one magnificent Angus breeding bull going into the thousands of dollars.....

I'm not sure that's the type of channel that most cable providers would be interested in..... but good luck in your quest to get it.....

We have always assumed that you might be severely misguided, but no one thought you were stupid ... Now you go and swallow whole a Novak blind item ... we may have to rethink your capabilities.

  33. Of course Stephanie told a story of a right wing man who told Hannity that he should stop bashing Hillary because the man's equally right wing wife was so upset as a female that she was going to vote for her.

I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of shuffling going on in this election.

    Posted by: Jamie | November 19, 2007 11:20 AM

  34. I want to jump on an opportunity to agree with FryD. Chris Matthews didn't like Huckabee's answer on handling violence in big cities, and he took the idea down the nearest slippery slope. I wasn't crazy about the answer either, but I'm not expecting the next President to deal with street crimes in NYC, Philadelphia, Detroit, or Flint, Michigan.

    Posted by: Jamie | November 19, 2007 12:13 PM

  38. Dog,

Regarding your entry on the last thread, just to play safe, Ana Marie Cox should be banned for two lifetimes. Harold Ford, Jr. should be given one, and only one, chance to come out of hiding, and explain himself. After that Imus and crew can decide if and when he should ever appear again.

Dan Rather should take Tim Russert's place in the recurring line-up, and Mr. Russert should do penance in the public square to atone for his tepid support of someone he kissed up to regularly. He should also say five Our Fathers and five Hail Marys in private, but that's a separate issue.

And our host, Craig Crawford, should be a featured guest on the December 2nd show, as well as having a scheduled, weekly time slot for calling in with campaign comments & updates.

I'm planning on taking the morning off on 12/2 just so I can tune in to WABC radio's streaming broadcast for the full four hours.
