Rudy Giuliani offers a good enough excuse for the weird accounting practices for his security detail’s travel with him while he was New York mayor. He says the police department was so slow in paying its expenses that City Hall picked up the tab and was reimbursed later.
But the excuse is not good enough to repair the potential damage to his bid for the Republican presidential nomination. That’s because what Giuliani isn’t denying is that these expenses involved personal trips with his then-mistress, Judith Nathan (who is now his wife). The trouble is that he was married to someone else at the time. This means that the flurry of news reports about these matters are highlighting the period in his life when he was conducting an adulterous affair. And the strange expensing of those trips gives the impression that the mayor’s office was trying to keep them out of public view.
There are still plenty of GOP voters outside New York who have not heard the sordid details about Giuliani’s personal life in those days (which, by the way, is the reason that his children barely speak to him). And stories like this, even if you accept his explanations for how the expenses were handled, only serve to introduce the dirty details to voters around the country.

In sports talk, the term for the QB of America's Team is "en fuego"...
....kind of like Rude-eze underpants, the big, fat liar.
As America's Mayor's personal life is showcased, it is just more good news for Huckabee.

In light of how the last, two presidential elections were decided, both of these stories are quite fitting. It will be interesting to see if elections have been manipulated to the point of irrelevance.
Also, a CNN special on "Czar Putin" tonight. How timely.

I've got to believe that Gary "Monkey Business" Hart is really pissed off at the pass Rudy is getting over his extra-marital monkey business.

mornin' all.
dnd, who would have foreseen that the end resul t of the Clinton impeachment and not guilty verdict in the senate would be that the personal sexual life of presidential candidates essentially don't mean anything?
Gotta go catch up on last night's posts. Back in a few.

dnd, just for you, Windows XP Pro. The geek at CDW told me it's really a good upgrade over the XP home on most machines. Of course for $300 more you can get a dual core zippy desktop machine with about 2 G ram and 180 G HD with XP installed or $700 more for a similar notebook.

Mrs. P needs to replace 2 dinosaur machines at her office, so she dispaatched me to get her options for machines with XP since she has a newish workhorse 'puter with XP and doesn't want to bite the bullet and replace all her XP software that likely won't work on Vista. Been an interesting process. I'm astounded at what you can get now from a retailer like CDW for not a lot of moey. Best thing I saw so far is a 160 Gig USB portable hard drive that's 3/4" thick and 5x7". Damn. You can literally carry your office between the office and home and forget that you have it.

OK, we can put all the talk about Rudi doing anything improper with the security billing to bed. It was fine, Bernie Kerik says so.

dnd,
If you are given a choice go with XP, or XP pro. Even if your not given a choice demand that they put XP or XP Pro on your system. Stay away from Vista. Vista was pushed out way before it was ready and there are a number of programs that just don't get along well with Vista. MS is now working now on a Vistia update which more resembles XP, but that won't be out till mid 08 if then. So go with XP, it will cut the stress factor.

Look, I am no fan of adultery either, but it seems pretty prevalent, so if we waited to vote for somone who was goody two shoes, we would wait forever. It seems that we all know the dirty truth about Giuliani, and it certainly isn't changing my vote. If I were a Senator Clinton supporter would I change my vote just because her campaign goaded some gay guy into asking a question at the GOP debate on Wednesday? Or because they got to Gov Spitzer, that sooooo independent and brave guy, who changed his view on licenses for illegals, like lightening?!

Patsi,
Yeah Pete's Kitchen is great. The article neglected to mention that Colfax is the longest street in America. And if you're interested in Denver history, Phil Goodstein is a good as it gets. I particularly liked "The seamy side of Denver."

Surge is working???? Where is the political progress????? The purpose of the surge is to give political side a chance to work...
and adultry is one thing having the PD pay for a driver for his girl friend is quite another
Poor Rudi supporters not only is their guy creepy and cooking the books to hide his affair but using public funds to cart his mistress around...

Fry,
It's good to see you are getting excited because some positive effects of the surge are being noticed and felt.
My problem with the surge is this...
IT CAME TO @#$#$ @$#$ @$##@$ LATE!!!!!
The fact that the surge is working now is further proof as to how completely arrogant Rumsfield and company were to think they could accomplish their goals with a minimal sized force.
As I think about it, I can't help but wonder if he was planning on a larger force to be comprised of significant numbers from our allies. Once the President failed in his efforts to build a COW, he had to keep US forces at the same levels to avoid the appearance of diplomatic failings...
While many liberals won't buy billboards to that point, they will agree to it if asked directly about it...
If you had a rat in your house, would you try to beat it to death with a wooden spoon or a shovel or pellet gun? I would take the one shot/swing one kill myself.

I'm sure Rudy would rather people talk about his mistress then the facts of his administration

CQ misses an essential element in the story - Giuliani bills NYC for separate security details for his wife AND mistress while he is still married, and while the affair is secret from his family and the public. Now, that's a bombshell!

Andy Card: KKKarl is a big fat liar
Karl Rove told Charlie Rose during a recent interview that Congress had pushed President Bush to go into Iraq prematurely. According to Rove, the White House had been opposed to holding the war vote close to the 2002 elections because "we thought it made it too political."
This morning, former White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card went on MSNBC's Morning Joe and laughed off Rove's claims. Read part of the transcript from Think Progress:
SCARBOROUGH: We have to start with something that we all are talking about a couple of days ago where Karl Rove went on Charlie Rose and he blamed the Democrats for pushing him and the president into war. Is that how it worked?
CARD: No, that's not the way it worked.
Card went on to explain that sometimes Rove's "mouth gets ahead of his brain":
SCARBOROUGH: Is that just Karl spinning beyond the White House? ...
CARD: Well, Karl is very smart. He's -- sometimes his brain gets ahead of his mouth. And sometimes his mouth gets ahead of his brain.
