One is a senior at Clemson, enrolled in the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) and training with the South Carolina Guard, Wilson spokesman Ryan Murphy told me, in response to a query.
Presumably, he could soon face duty in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Son Alan, a major in the Army National Guard, served a year as an intelligence officer in southern Iraq. He is currently running for the Republican nomination for state attorney general.
Julian Dusenbury Wilson is a captain in the Army National Guard.
Son Addison G. "Add" Wilson, Jr., a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, is a Navy doctor .
All of which would seem to belie the claim of "a Democratic operative with experience in South Carolina" that "Wilson's treatment of the commander in chief could cost him among the district's sizable military population,"
according to CQ's Jonathan Allen and Adjoa Adofo.
But who knows?
"Wilson himself is facing the possibility of a credible rematch of his narrow 2008 victory over Marine Corps veteran and Democrat Rob Miller, which Wilson won with 53.7 percent of the vote," Allen and Adofo
reported after the congressman's
outburst Wednesday night.
Wilson's spokesman did not respond to a question as to whether his sons' military situations contributed to his emotional outburst.
"I let my emotions get the best of me," he said in a
prepared statement after calls rang out for an apology. He also called White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel to voice his regret, according to
reports.
"While I disagree with the president's statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable," said Wilson, who sits on the armed services and foreign affairs committee.
"I extend sincere apologies to the president for this lack of civility."
UPDATE:
Thanks to readers who brought to my attention the video gem Greg Sargent unearthed on his blog, The Plumline, which portrays Wilson in a heated exchange with Rep. Bob Filner, D-Calif., whom he accused of "hatred of America" for opposing the U.S. invasion of Iraq.______
*CQ reporters heard Wilson first utter "Lie!" collectively with other Republicans, then repeat "You lie" on his own. Other news organizations quote Wilson saying "You lie!" only once.
Comments
This defense, undoubtedly being floated by the Wilson camp, is a good two-fer for them: remind people of his military service and that of his sons, and come up with an excuse to explain away his outburst during the President's speech.
They should keep working this vein. Once established, then they can progress to accusing Democrats who criticize Wilson of being anti-military and disrespectful to veterans.

If the stress is too much for joe
1. joe could yell at donald rumdum for fouling up Gulf Fiasco II and the Afghani war against alqaeda.
2. joe and 3 of his sons could leave that nerve-wracking military life.

I'm sure of others in attendance, including The President , have stressful lives . It's rather unseemly
to invoke ones family as a shield for disgraceful behavior . Besides, Mr Wilson has a history of incivility
towards others .
In September 2002, during a debate on the possibility of going to war in Iraq, Wilson called Congressman Bob Filner "viscerally anti-American" and claimed that he had a "hatred of America" after Filner suggested the United States supplied chemical and biological weapons to Saddam Hussein. Wilson said later that he didn't intend to insult Filner.

I believe the out burst was a deliberate town hall act to disrupt the speech. I believe he used his sons as an excuse, and forgot it was a republican who began the wars his sons are fighting.

Unfortunately, I don't buy the idea that Wilson's outburst is due to stress because he has four sons in the military. He is not the only member of Congress that is under a great deal of stress. With four terms as as a US Congressman one would think he would know how to behave. He should not only apologize to Obama but to the entire viewing audience. And to think the Republicans think they are the super patriots. It is going to be interesting to see what the pundits have to say especially those on the right.

Then he ought to be able to control his emotions under
stress. What the hell kind of example is he setting for
his sons or those under his command ?
Disgusting.
Toss him.

As Greg Sargent at Plumline notes, NOT the first time, uh uh:
In September of 2002, The Washington Post reported that Wilson flipped out during a debate on C-SPAN with Dem Rep. Bob Filner of California, shouting at him and ranting about his “hatred of America.” From Nexis:
Filner, who opposes unilateral U.S. military action, suggested that in the 1980s, when U.S. officials sided with Iraq in its war against Iran, Saddam Hussein obtained biological and chemical weapons technology from the United States. “We gave it to him,” Filner asserted.
“That is wrong. That’s made up,” Wilson fired back. “I can’t believe you would say something like that.”
When Filner calmly held his ground, advising Wilson to read newspaper reports and other documentation, the Republican erupted: “This hatred of America by some people is just outrageous. And you need to get over that.”
As moderator Connie Brod sat by helplessly, Filner challenged: “Hatred of America? … Are you accusing me?”
“Yes!” Wilson shouted. For good measure, over the next minute Wilson accused Filner of harboring “hatred of America” four more times, of being “hateful” three times and of being “viscerally anti-American” once.

Uh huh. Suuuuuure it was.
The guy is no better than the crazies who scream about "Marxism" and "death books" at town hall meetings and think they're making an intelligent point about something. Save it for the teabagger rallies, Joe.

OMG!! Where was all the outrage, civility when President Bush was heckled, booed, and also called lier from someone from the black caucaus, I remember the camera went to her, no one gave a s--- when it was done to him, but what else would we expect from this bias media, obama did lie, does anyone here really beleive that abortion will not be paid for , they will find a way, also illegal immigrants will become legal overnight, just wait. and the biggest whopper, this will not raise the deficit by one dollar, what a joke. he lies when he said the only cuts to medicare will be " waste", then why does he not do it now?? why wait years?? he;s going to cut payments to doctors, hospital and completely cut MEDICARE ADVANTAGE, he lies when he says it will not affect us at all, are you kidding??? cutting payments to my doctors will eventually make my doctor have to tell me he cannot accept medicare anymore. this is not a scare tactic from me, its the facts. thats why there are so many doctors against this, the AMA is only a third of the medical field, now when he does all this, will all these lovers of obama finally say he did not tell us the truth?? will the press and media fianlly come down to earth and expose him? DOUBT IT.

{OMG!! Where was all the outrage, civility when President Bush was heckled, booed, and also called lier[sic] from someone from the black caucaus[sic],}
I presume you meant 'liar.' Was this on the floor of the House while Bush was speaking? Didn't think so...
One thing I might point out about the Wilson family. They all receive their health care through - who? The government: The GIANT PUBLIC OPTION. Of course we didn’t hear Wilson complain about HIS public option health care; he is only against anybody else having the same benefits, and had the nerve to vote against extending more health benefits to Veterans.
Public trough feeders .... gotta luv 'em

This is a very lame attempt at making excuses for unexcusable behavior. Wilson was in the national guard, he knows about respecting the commander in chief. I've seen twelve year olds with more mental maturity and compure. If you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen. There is no acceptable excuse for his behavior. He's pathetic.

I didn't realize Wilson was in the National Guard. If that is the case he should be tried at court martial for disrespecting a superior officer....

Poppycock. No excuse for either the boorish behavior or the lie that health reform efforts will provide benefits to illegal immigrants. And it's clear he is not the least bit sorry for what he said -- he only made his half-hearted apolgy (for the boorish timing, not for what he said) after being pressured by the Repubican leadership. As for his and his families service (which I honor), I cannot improve on what retired MG Paul Eaton said. "Joe Wilson's conduct last night is a breach of military protocol and represents a further departure from the historic good order and discipline I expected, in the past, to see from the GOP, pre-conservative talk show entertainers" http://www.huffingtonpost.com/major-general-paul-d-eaton/breach-of-discipline_b_282136.html
