A SurveyUSA poll conducted Sept. 26-29 gives Republican Bob McDonnell a much larger lead in the Nov. 3 election for Virginia governor than other recent surveys.
McDonnell, a former state Attorney General, leads Democratic nominee Creigh Deeds, a state senator, by 55 percent to 41 percent, according to the survey of 631 likely voters.
Most recent surveys have given McDonnell a small but steady advantage in the polls, but the SurveyUSA poll gives McDonnell a 17-point lead among men and a 10-point lead among women.
Deeds is vying for the votes of women voters, particularly in populous and liberal-leaning northern Virginia, by opposing the socially conservative views McDonnell emphasized in a 1989 graduate thesis.
McDonnell's lead is attributed in large part to his 59 percent to 35 percent advantage over Deeds among self-described political independents, who comprised 29 percent of the poll sample. McDonnell is winning 89 percent of Republicans and Deeds is winning 85 percent of Democrats.
CQ Politics presently rates the Virginia governor's race as Leans Republican.

Deeds has no solutions - his ads on TV all they are are anti-mcdonnell ads. What's his soltion to traffic, crime, and taxes? Who is he? At least McDonnell has a track record as Atorney general. We know he will carry out the death penalty. I'm sure deeds will let Malvo off the gurney. Dont take the chance vote GOP vote against Obama and the liberals.
