Eye on the Senate: Republicans Have Upper Hand in Arkansas

| | Comments (1)

Arkansas Sen. Blanche Lincoln registers no higher than 41 percent and trails four prospective Republican challengers among likely voters in hypothetical match-ups, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted Sept. 28. The margin of error is 4.5 percent.

State Sen. Gilbert Baker, who declared his candidacy earlier this month, is the only one of the Republicans with a statistically significant lead over Lincoln, who is seeking a third term in 2010 - 47 percent to 39 percent. State Senate Minority Leader Kim Hendren leads Lincoln 44 percent to 41 percent, while Tom Cox, head of the Arkansas T.E.A. Party is up 43 to 40 percent and Curtis Coleman, CEO of Safe Foods Corp., leads 43 to 41 percent.

Lincoln's favorability rating is also worrisome from a re-election standpoint - 52 percent have an unfavorable view of her, while 45 have a favorable impression. The field of Republican candidates all register favorable ratings in the 30s; more than a third of likely voters are not familiar with any of them.

Dragging down Lincoln is the unpopularity of Democrats and their agenda, more generally, in Arkansas. Just 37 percent of likely voters in the state approve of President Barack Obama's job performance, while 62 percent disapprove -- 52 percent strongly. Sixty-seven percent do not favor the Democrats' health care overhaul proposal; 30 percent support it.

  1. Lincoln is "fah show" running for re-election in the wrong year. Those a "Bush" numbers for the Messiah in Arkansas. 52% STRONGLY dissapprove! The 3 Dem congressman better watch their backs as well with that kind of albatross hung around their necks.
