While almost half of Americans believe they have a good understanding of the issues involved in proposals to overhaul the health care system, two-thirds do not believe the same about the lawmakers who will vote on them, according to a Gallup poll conducted July 26.
Would you say that you/members of Congress have a good understanding of the issues involved in the current debate over national health care reform, or not?
![]()
Fifty-eight percent of Republicans say they personally have a good understanding of the issues but only 20 percent believe that's true of Congress. Forty-seven percent of Democrats regard themselves as knowledgeable on health care with 34 percent saying they believe Congress understands the issues too. Forty-one percent of independents say they know the issues, but only 26 percent say Congress does.

The comments above show that the public does NOT understand the provisions of the debate on health care.
President Obama has been very clear in stating that he wants to expand health care coverage to the 47 million uninsured, to decrease the rate of increase of health care costs and to protect policy holders from financial ruin by the treatment costs of a catastrophic illness.
These limited and specific goals are typical of Obama.
The hysterical rantings about euthanasia and federally funded abortion on demand are red herrings that hard right extremists have injected into the debate for their own partisan purposes.
Anyone who tended a sick child or sat in a hospital with a sick friend knows health care is essential. Sick people should not have to worry about their care being restricted because of their insurance coverage.
Write and call your members of Congress and demand that they conform to the results of the 08 election- the American people voted for universal health care coverage. Demand that Congress provide it.

Mr Chapman hasn't read the bill. He's only listening to the sound bites provided by the politicians. Stop drinking the Kool-Aid and educate yourself. You need to fully understand what HB 3200 means to yourself and your loved ones before posting such uninformed comments. In 2008 the American elecorate voted for "Change they could belive in". I was one of those. If you want us to demand something from Congress how about demanding that they accept the same healthcare coverage as the rest of us.
