Forty-six percent of Americans disapprove of President Obama's handling of the issue of health care reform compared to 41 percent who give him positive marks, according to a Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll conducted July 24-27. Thirteen percent are undecided. That compares to the 52 percent to 40 percent disapproval of former President Clinton's push for an overhaul in 1994.
Forty-two percent say the plan Obama is pushing is a bad idea, 36 percent say it is a good idea and 17 percent have no opinion. That compares to June when 32 percent said it was a bad idea, 33 percent labeled it a good idea and 30 percent had no opinion.
Thirty-nine percent believe that under Obama's plan their health care will get worse, 29 percent say it will stay the same and 21 percent say it will get better. In April, 24 percent said it would get worse, 29 percent said it would stay the same and 22 percent said it would get better
On the question of Obama's proposal to create a public health plan to compete with private insurers, Americans were in a statistical dead heat with 46 percent favoring it and 44 percent opposed. The margin of error was 3.1 points.
Other findings in the poll:
- Obama's job approval rating was 53 percent to 40 percent with 7 percent undecided, compared to 56 percent to 24 percent with 10 percent undecided in June.
- Those surveyed approved of the job Obama is doing on the economy by 49 percent to 4 percent with 7 percent undecided compared to 58 percent to 38 percent with 11 percent undecided in June.
- Feelings about Obama himself were a bit higher than his job approval ratings with 55 percent viewing him as very or somewhat positive compared to 34 percent whose opinions were very or somewhat negative. In June, the positive rating was 60 percent and negative was 29 percent.
- On a question that three other organizations reported results today, 46 percent preferred a Democratic-controlled Congress in 2010 while 39 percent favored the Republicans with 15 percent undecided.

Hmmmm! 46-41 against Obama is a headline and 46-44 in favor of Obama is a "statistical dead heat". Oh, that's right it was a WSJ poll. Please; Numbers are numbers - you don't have to tag them with your interpretation of them.
